My son drove to San Antonio to find work, and his car broke down late Thursday night just before the Memorial Day weekend. We live out of state and didn't have any clue where to have his car repaired. Philippians 4:6 tells us not to worry about anything; instead, pray about everything so that's what I did Thursday night and Friday morning. Then I got on RepairPal website to search for a reputable mechanic. My eyes were immediately attracted to Sun Auto so I called to see if there was any way to get my son's car repaired before the holiday weekend. I expressed my concerns with manager Thomas about my son's predicament and Thomas told me to have it towed there and he would have a mechanic diagnose it. By mid-day Friday, I had an estimate for the repairs and a commitment that the car would be repaired on Saturday. Thomas had already sourced the parts before he spoke to me. True to his word, the car was repaired by 2 pm Saturday. Thomas, and Sun Auto Repair will get all of my son's business. I drove to SA from Rockwall, TX (DFW area) and was in SA buying a car from Eco Park. During the test drive we got a flat and just so happened to pull into Sun Auto's lot as it was the closest safe place to pull off the road. The dealer was able to locate a tire, but could not find a shop to get the tire replaced on such short notice and I needed to get it on a trailer to take home. THANK GOD For the Assistant Manager (I forget his name, but he is Hispanic, and very helpful). I spoke with the Asst. Mgr and explained my predicament, he told me to buy the tire and bring it to him and he would get me squared away and on the road. Within an hour of receiving the tire, the car was back at the dealer and ready for me to install. I CANNOT THANK Sun Auto enough for their help and quality work. They even took the time to do a once over of the car I was buying and told me it needed new brakes and suspension, which I knew from the test drive, but was pleased to confirm with an expert. read more

Caveat: this is mainly for an oil change, I have not had other services done there - Friendly and reliable. The people here are nice and friendly and were able to get me in for an appointment last minute. The prices are competitive and the service is relatively quick. I went on a busy afternoon and they were able to get my oil change done in less than an hour which is pretty good for a normal car service place. No complaints read more

This is my first time visiting this car shop. I needed to get 2 cars inspected, so I setup a appointment and dropped it off to pick it up later since I knew they were busy. Overall easy process, and the person I worked with was friendly. Where I take off 3 stars is for the next part. I get a email saying my car is ready and it has an inspection report of things that are good and things that needs to be done or replaced. I do all the maintenances and work to maintain my cars myself and know everything about the car. It has a list of 7 things with only 1 being valid which was needing an alignment. 2 of the items involved replacing my front and rear air suspension. I have replaced all of the suspension myself within the last year and has under a few 1000 miles on the OEM air struts and bags. I asked them first how did they determine the work that they suggested, and they told me they go based on whats on Carfax, and they didn't even actually examine the stuff that needs replacing. So if you have any mechanic outside a dealership or you replace anything yourself they will suggest it needs to be replaced anyway, which is a terrible policy. I didn't even ask how much the bill for all the slew of stuff they suggested I needed would be, probably at least 8k worth of stuff. 4 years ago my elderly dad who is almost 80 went there with his older car and they suggested nearly $5k worth of work. I didn't make the connection until today that they wouldn't actually inspect anything and just go based on a carfax. It created unnecessary panic for him thinking he had some major issues. Now I'm assuming any car that goes into the shop has the same thing happen. Thankfully I'm mechncailly inclined but I think of everyone who goes in who has no idea about the cars and then they panic when they see stuff that needs replacing uncessarily. They probably pull in alot of $ with the method from the people in the area. read more

Went in for front brake pads. They quoted me at 250. Tried to charge me 519. Eventually numbers came near the 2 week old quote...but over 300. I asked why the cost was so high and the man replied "that's above my pay grade". So...I guess I'm off to pep boys or some place I can actually afford. Very disappointed because I really liked the place in the past for oil changes and inspections. read more

I went in for an oil change before I leave for a long distance work trip. When I dropped my car off, it was really busy. I asked if they had availability for a walk in and they said yes, but it would be a while due to the amount of people they were seeing. I told them no problem and that I could come later that day to pick up my car. Later that day, I get a text stating my vehicle is ready for pick up and another report stating that there are a few housekeeping things that need to be done such as serpentine belt replacement, brake fluid replacement, etc.. however, the photo that they attached of my car had my driver side-view mirror literally hanging on by a thread. Shortly after I received this text, I got a call stating my car was ready for picking up. I brought my concern up with the person I spoke with and they stated they didn't know what I was talking about and stated it was like that when they were working on my car. When I dropped off my car the mirror wasn't broken. I asked them if they could fix it and they can't but the guy I spoke to stated he could find a side mirror cheap and reattached it. It's bothersome they're making me pay for it. I opted to fix my serpentine belt and have my tires aligned. However, my car would be there another day. I called around 1pm the following day requesting an update on my vehicle and they said it was ready. I was on the way to get my car when I received a call stating that they forgot to do the alignment. On top of that they admitted to breaking the ball socket and they now had to fix that as well. I was a little frustrated when I got that call because i thought my car was ready and all of the extra services we agreed upon were done and I could pick up my car. Now I'm a little worried about the state of my car to drive to this work trip & I'm still having to pay for their mistakes. I've never had these issues before, and I understand accidents happen. But I feel like it's one thing after another. All in all, I understand this might not by everyone's experience but I feel like the things that happened were handled poorly. read more

The headlight of my Honda started fluttering....had been switched out to LED by former owner. Wasn't sure if I should just change the fluttering bulb; switch these after-markets back to factory lights; or something else. I imagined maybe a $500 charge...me having to go back after they get parts, etc., etc. We'll I called and talked to Aaron one evening and he said to bring it in and ask for either the manager , Thomas, or assistant manager, Hector and they'd check it out and get back to me with options. So the next morning I took it in at 10:00 a.m., got a callback with recommendation & quote by noon (switch both headlights back to factory) AND it would be ready by 2:00!! That's right, all this in one easy visit. Best of all the price ended up being half of what I was expecting...and a coupon helped even more. I feel like I won the lottery. All 3 gentlemen were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. No upselling. And I forgot to mention, I'm a female. Always worry about getting the run around when I deal with service personnel but not at all this time. I'll definitely go back to the Leon Springs location when I need work done on my car. read more

TRUST, that's what one looks for when going to an auto service location. Let me caveat my review with the following: I am female, middle age and highly mechanical. In fact I sell mechanical equipment as a profession. I had an electrical problem with my beloved SUV, Ford Edge Limited.....much like myself, it's older, but well loved! I kept getting a battery fault: I replaced battery, replaced alternator and was still not maintaining electric charge. One repair shop launched into $3984 worth of repair and charges to diagnose and repair! But no, I went to my out-of-the-way TRUSTED service site: Sun Auto. It used to be called something else before but the best part is all the great, reliable and BRILLIANT STAFF STAYED! OMG, Thomas is the manager and he treats ALL CUSTOMERS like family! He keeps old parts for you and he brings you to your vehicle to SHOW YOU PERSONALLY WHAT IS GOING ON! Turns out my repair was a part worth about $250 which included service! Hmmmm almost $4k vs $250...no need to guess which door you recommend here. Thomas also heard a whine while it was being tested, turned out power steering fluid was low and gross...add another $150....I'm out the door in half a day, $3500 richer. RUN, don't walk to Sun Auto - premier service, Master Mechanic on duty and yes, they do simple things like: inspections, oil change, tire indicators, on and on! OMG -TRUST THESE EXPERTS WITH YOUR SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE LIFE PURCHASE! You won't regret it! read more

I am pleased to take time out of my day to write this review and Acknowledge James, Hector and the guys down at Sun Auto Service off of I-10 Frontage Rd. for their, and I emphasize, FANTASTIC customer service and loyalty to their customers. After getting 'the luck of the draw' and my A/C going out during this dreadful summer heat season, I was curious as to whether or not my 24 months/24,000 mile warranty was still effective with Sun Auto. James, one of the service advisors, had initially given me the bearer of bad news that my warranty had just expired 4 days ago. I was distraught to hear this news especially when James informed me of how expensive this repair was going to be after I had replaced these A/C components not once but twice already at one of their other locations here in San Antonio. James went above & beyond to contact the manufacturer and distributors of these parts and got the parts covered under warranty. James also reached out to his regional supervisor, whose name I unfortunately did not get, and explained the situation to him. He got the okay to cover not only the parts but the labor of this A/C job at 0 I repeat ZERO cost to me for my loyalty to this company. WOW y'all just wow. That right there is 10/10 customers service and THE best experience I have ever had at a mechanic shop. I will refer anyone I know who has car problems to this specific Sun Auto Service location. I went in at 8am to have my vehile inspected and the older man behind the desk was cold and appeared uninterested. Once he took my information he said it would be at least a 40 minute wait with a very flipid attitude. I was one of only two people in the faciltiy and when I was concerned that a simple imspection would take over an hour he just shugged his shoulders. I told him I would have to come back as I did not have the time to wait (there was no line???). He said he would keep the ticket open so they would be ready when I arrived. I returned two days later at the same time and when I arrived he didn't even look at me, just said, we will be with you in a minute. Another person looked me up in the system and I was not there. I turned to the man who had helped me 2 days before and said, you said you would keep the ticket open. He just shugged is shoulders and said, you will just have to fill out the information agian. No apology, just cold and unconcerned. It is unfortunate because I live 10 minutes from there and was looking for a new mechanic. However, I will never return there because the way I was treated and will tell my experience to everyone I know. What happened to customer service. read more

In Aug (2023) went in for an oil change, to realize the technician added the wrong oil to my car. They added 0w-20, when it should have been 0w-30. They corrected it on the spot after a small conversation with one of the gentleman that worked up front. No harm, no foul. I decided to trust them once again with my vehicle and they let me down AGAIN! While they got the oil correct, during the tire rotation part of the service, my rims had similar scratches on ALL four rims near the cap that covers the nuts that hold the tire/ rim in place. spoke to the manager (Thomas), he insisted it was rock chips (when once again, all four rims had the exact same marking of indentations and scratches), he said there was no way and did not accept fault. But he said he would bring it up to his boss (who was on holiday in Guatemala), to no surprise had the same findings via poor imaging from another technicians personal phone. To cap off the poor experience, I was the one that had to keep calling in order to get a response about the situation. Which again, shows that not only they didn't care to recitify the issue, they never had intentions on notifying me that they weren't going to accept fault. Beware! If you take your vehicle here, make sure to take pictures of your property, as it may not come back in the same condition. Or take it to a place that may not even place you in such a position. I can say they do good work; but when I went there the last time, for an advertised $18.99 conventional oil change and the usual $7.00 State Inspection, their math seemed quite a bit off to me. I was an English teacher, not a mathematician, but when I add $18.99 and $7.00 I don't come anywhere near $50. My check engine light came on over the weekend so I researched a few places nearby. Sun Auto came up with great reviews so I made an appt to get it looked at Monday morning. When I arrived I was greeted by Chad who checked me in and asked if I had noticed any driving issues with the vehicle. After a brief conversation he took my keys & had someone diagnose the issue. It turned out to be a cracked vacuum hose connected to my turbo. The entire wait time (diagnostic & repair) took about an hour and a half. They were kind of busy. But Chad continued to check in with me and update me periodically. Everyone working there seemed in good spirits and had a great attitude with everyone who walked in the door. Once everything was complete I ended up spending well under what I expected!! I will definitely be returning for any repairs or maintenance that need to be done. I went in for a $7 state inspection and ended up paying over $53 because they said my wipers were ripped and needed to be replaced. If I didn't agree to get pay for new wipers, they said they would 'Fail' the inspection. The wipers cost $40 for the pair and an extra $7 for labor (which they didn't tell me about until I got the bill). Also, if they ask you if you want a copy of your receipt, say yes because that's how I found out they charged me for labor. I suppose they needed to find a way to nickel & dime their customers to make more money. Next time, I'll just take my car to the dealership instead because at least they'll just do the inspection and send you on your way. So much for wanting to support small local businesses.
