During a recent service visit on 6/7/2026, Take 5 Oil Change on Bandera documented that sludge was present in my engine. I was not informed of this finding during the service and only became aware of it after reviewing the invoice after payment, despite being advised that my vehicle's maintenance was otherwise up to date. I get my oil changed when my Honda Maintenance Minder shows 5% life left, before the indicator turns on. After I questioned the notation, the employee confirmed that it was incorrect, stating that my oil was actually in good condition and that the sludge entry had been mistakenly placed on the paperwork. Previous service records and interactions further support that I was never informed of any sludge-related concerns during my last two visits. Despite acknowledging that the notation was inaccurate, employees declined to amend the service record, stating that correcting the documentation would take too much time and that the issue could be addressed during a future visit. Additionally, the mileage recorded during a previous service visit was approximately 10,000 miles higher than the vehicle's actual mileage at the time of service. This discrepancy was also brought to their attention before beginning my oil change, yet they refused to correct the official documentation. I was advised that because the mileage had already been reported to CarFax, a subsequent service visit would simply "reset" the discrepancy. Based on my professional experience working in automotive warranty administration for more than ten years, I understand that inaccurate mileage reporting can create lasting issues and should be corrected at the source rather than left unresolved. These are not minor clerical errors. Service records serve as the official maintenance history of a vehicle and may be relied upon by manufacturers, warranty administrators, future purchasers, and service providers. Inaccurate records can have significant consequences, including impacts to manufacturer warranty coverage, Certified Pre-Owned warranty eligibility, vehicle valuation, and future diagnostic or repair decisions. My concern extends beyond the errors themselves to the company's unwillingness to correct records that its employees have acknowledged are inaccurate. Once an error has been identified and verified, it is reasonable to expect that the official documentation be updated to accurately reflect the vehicle's condition and service history. Maintaining accurate service documentation is critical to protecting consumers and ensuring the integrity of vehicle maintenance records. I've been to this location several times and they typically have been pretty quick and engaging with their service. Today, I was disappointed. The wait wasn't that bad but after I pulled my truck into the bay, I sat here for over 10 minutes and not a single employee has asked about what service I want for my truck today. There are only two employees that I see working and all three bays are occupied. If you don't have enough employees maybe you shouldn't have all three bays open? It sounds like management only staffed 2 employees until noon...smh. Today it's more like Take 60 than Take 5. A customer in the bay next to me just left after waiting so long. Hard to get mad at the employees because they were thorough throughout their checks and working their butts off. Do better management. read more

I had a very concerning experience at this Take 5 Oil Change in Helotes. After a routine oil change, coolant flush, and air filter service, my oil pressure dropped dangerously low, and a few days later my check engine light came on. My mechanic found the oil filter had been severely damaged during the service, causing my oil pressure to drop to around 3 psi (it should be about 38 psi), putting my engine at risk of failure. On top of that, the oil they used was extremely poor quality--it had a watery consistency and literally evaporated off my fingers within seconds. What should have been simple maintenance turned into costly repairs. I would be very cautious using this location. read more

This location is very well managed. The team provides excellent service to its customers and the members seem to work very well together. We moved here from Houston in 2018 and I have been coming here since then. The crew is efficient and keeps the customer informed on what will be done. There are no hard sales made here. Any advice given to the customer is honest and allows the customer to make the call if something is needed under the hood. I will not do business with any other oil change business in the city. This is my go to place have my car serviced. The first time I took my new car there it was used, and only had 18 thousand miles on it! The first thing that they did was check the oil level. They brought the dipstick to my window to show me that it was crystal clear and informed me that I really didn't need an oil change. I was so impressed with their service honesty and integrity that I've been a regular customer ever since.! read more

BAIT AND SWITCH... SHYSTERS!!!"Oh no, that was published in error and the home office deleted that code, so we can't even run it and won't give you any like-kind discount! OH, but you can buy an oil change for $120+ ish!!!!!!! REALLY?????? I have used Take 5 in the past but the last time I used one on Culebra area. The last time a year and a half ago I went to one in particular on Culebra and service was poor and unprofessional. So much that I ended up leaving and before having service done. That's when I went to Helotes location and was pleasantly pleased with professionalism and interactive group of guys! 12/11/23 went and John worked with me and he went above and beyond. Even though it's further from my home I definitely will continue going to Helotes location! And if you have a problem at any businesses, speak up you are the consumer!!!! read more

Not a fan of leaving bad reviews but I think this one was warranted. Took my 2021 Kia k5 in for an oil change, spent way more time than I'd like. Approximately 2 hours to be exact. They didn't have my oil filter and they had to drive down to AutoZone to pick one up. Which they charged me for instead of it being included in the oil change price of $120? Then after finally getting out of there I, as usual, pull to the side, and take a look under the hood at 2 main things. The engine oil levels, and the engine coolant levels. Which the coolant level I already knew was EXTREMELY low and needed filling. I take a look and it's still completely empty and hadn't been touched. I go back around and tell them it wasn't properly inspected as it said it was on paper. Well they told me they did inspect it and it looked normal... (what technician doesn't know how to check coolant levels?) I proceeded to have someone else check the coolant level and he ALSO said it looks decent, maybe a little low but still acceptable. (Mind you the coolant level is completely EMPTY LOL) at that point I kinda just laughed at the entire situation and said okay that's fine. Knowing I'd have to go out of my way on the ride home and purchase some coolant to fill it up. Even though the oil change price also includes an entire fluid top up aka coolant fill up too. All in all, I've been here twice, and the first time seemed okay, but after this last trip, I simply don't think I can trust technicians that cannot visibly see an empty/low tank of coolant. For the price point, just take it to the a dealership or someplace else. read more

I have been going to another Take 5 location for many years to have my car inspection completed. This year, the other location was unable to do the inspection and they sent me to this location in Helotes. I had no idea there was one in Helotes, which is much closer to my house. I was warned that this location would be busy but ensured that they did inspections. Welllllll....if by "long wait" you mean 10-15 mins, then I guess I waited a long time. I was thrilled that the wait was so short. There were two cars in front of me and there was personnel outside directing people for inspections into one bay and people arriving for oil changes to the other bay. I was in and out with the wait in less than 20 minutes. The staff was friendly, yet focused on their work. I like Take 5 because I don't have to leave my car. There are about 5-6 points of inspection that "takes 5" minutes or less. You can pay cash or credit card and once paid you receive your inspection letter and away you go. I appreciate the speed and reliability of getting an inspection and service with a smile. read more

I came here after I was screamed at to Come get an oil change starting my day off on a rough start. I come here to get an oil change and the younger white man is directing me onto the track and then yells out with my window open this girl almost f'ing ran me over, when I was no where close to even hitting him. His friend laughed trying to make light of the situation and then he goes it's not f'ing funny bro. Normally I wouldn't say anything but I wanted to stand up for myself and said "I'm sorry but I was no where close to hitting you " and he goes "maam you almost did" and starts to try to argue. This place is awesome. They get the job done and make recommendations without selling you stuff you don't really need. I took my vehicle in before it actually needed an oil change. They checked the levels, how clean the oil looked, and said I could just get it topped off (for a reasonable price) until it was time for a full oil change. It was 1 1/2 quarts low. Most places would have just changed the oil and charged you full price. I appreciate their honesty. I'll keep coming back and I highly recommend them. The fact that you don't have to get out of your car is another plus. I asked them to check my engine air filter. It was really bad. They changed it in minutes. The price is reasonable. Went to this location after the one down the street had trash customer service. Well, this one, the wait time was better but there was an extremely pushy employee that thought it good to lecture customers about not wanting to buy windshield wipers there. I witnessed a female customer after being harassed, agree to buy wipers after being pressured. I had to show him online where I could get them cheaper so he could finally walk away, he wanted reasons why I wouldn't buy them. Horrible. read more

On 1/6/24, Take 5 in Helotes, TX attempted to perform a basic synthetic oil change on our fairly new vehicle (22K) miles. On 1/7/24, I was left dangerously stranded after my oil was completely depleted and several lights on my vehicle were present. This was due to Take 5 not performing the oil change up to standards. The shop manager was notified by the assistant manager and did not reach out immediately to apologize and speak with us. Rather he kept in contact only with the AM. was not apologetic and lacked empathy during this time. The district manager was also notified according to the shop manager but did not reach out immediately either. Outcome, vehicle was towed, another oil change performed. We do not trust their work and would like to take the vehicle to our dealership for a full diagnostic check at their expense, which we were promised. They stated a claim would be filed and a refund would be issued within 24 hours. We have yet to receive either as promised. Customer care is non-existent with this company. We will never take our vehicle to Take 5 again as they lack customer service skills and do not take ownership of their mistakes. read more

This is my go to place for state inspection. They open on the weekend and you can go in and out in just a few mins to get your inspection done without having to leave your car. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star is because their oil change price is kind of high, especially for synthetic. Maybe you are supposed to get a coupon or something for your oil change. But the price can be higher than what I pay at the dealers. read more

Helotes Take 5 was the worst experience ever. went for an oil change and 3 days later, the plug came loose and majority of oil came out. I spent the next day on hold and calling back and forth for 5 hours without any luck. I went back to address this issue, they filled the oil back up but I told them I needed to get a hold of their manager either by phone at the time or if I can get his number. They would not do either. I told them I would wait in the bay until I received some type of number and assistance but they wanted my truck out to keep going. I felt since I was not complete with my transaction I should not be expected to leave. Bottom line, 3 Helotes cops later and a trespass warning was issued to me. When I returned I was rudely greeted with, "Dude what the hell where have you been.?" He rudely explained that I was going to have to wait for everyone else to be finished then he'll get to me. GO ANYWHERE ELSE! I would give 0 stars if possible. I came here for an inspection and my VIN and my license plate were entered incorrectly so I was unable to renew my tag. I called and after several hours in which no one called me back, I called again. I was told I would have to come back to the location to fix the issue. I went back. After 45 min waiting in line I was told that I would need to continue "waiting my turn" even though all I needed was some paperwork fixed. After another 15 min it was my turn and they proceeded to do an oil change on the car next to me while I waited again. To say that I won't be coming back here is obvious. I had already sworn this place off for oil changes bc they neglected to tighten the oil plug on my wife's car and nearly blew it up. I thought surely they could handle an inspection. Clearly not. I have tried to come to this location multiple times but time and time again it's always something. I'm a person with patience and I couldn't find the patience during any visit!! I needed to get an inspection for my car and I remembered seeing a Take 5 oil change sign along Bandera Road just inside Helotes. Fortunately for me the place was not busy. I drove around the back and pulled up to one of the entrance bays. I didn't have to get out if the car because I was immediately greeted by Joseph. He was very nice and one of three mechanics I saw on duty. He told me which bay to pull into and leave my proof of insurance on top of the dash. Even though today's visit was not anything major or something as basic as an oil change. I felt very welcomed and was in and out in a jiffy. I was impressed with Joseph's service when he told a customer that they were out of a specific type of diesel oil for thier 2019 Ford truck but as a courtesy topped off the fluids, checked the tire pressure and thanked them on the way out. I didn't encounter management to thank them about thier employes excellent customer service but I'll be definitely be back for my next service appointment. read more

I've serviced my vehicles a few times here for oil changes without issue. Last time i attempted to have my daughters vehicle changed they told me they didn't have the filter. This time i tried to call and ask if they had the filter in stock prior to wasting time showing up to be turned away. The guy on the phone stated "he could not give me that information as it was unfair to the customers he had waiting for oil changes now and to come in so they could answer my question."
