Since I live near by, they are always gracious and helpful in dropping me off at home to wait for my car when I have lengthy repair work to be done. I literally told these people the car is shaking and they charged the diagnostics and said it was transmission shutter whoblah tbh then when i take back to speak with mechanic Pooh he says well your transmission is going?Like come again then he states your car mileage is high i have seen cars with wayyy more miles and i have never heard such bs ! I told the front guy he turned so red when i asked why he failed to mention that when i was getting estimate he proceeds to state that i told you the transmission shutter yes but you left out the part that the transmission is going just to get the money ! I went in for a simple inspection they lied to me and said I had two bulbs out and needed my headlights polished to pass my inspection and new wiper blades. I then went down the street to another garage. I told them I failed my inspection and asked them to look again because I had checked my turn signal lights before I came and knew they were working because that had happened before and I knew it was cheaper to fix them myself. Passed my inspection NO BULBS OUT and you DO NOT have to polish your headlights to pass. They work that is all you need. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!All I really needed was wiper blades that the second garage actually brought me and showed me why they needed to be replaced. I have been using these guys for about 15 years. I have always been pleased with the job they do. Recently, I had a chance to use them again. My daughter has started driving, and I gave her my old company car- 2009 Chevy Impala with more than 90,000 miles. I called David and asked him to look the car over. He had some of his folks do a bumper to bumper check. He called me back with what they thought the car needed. What impressed me so much was that I had told him that the car had never had a brake job, & since it was a safety issue, needed replacing. He told me that after a very close examination, he thought the brakes were good for another 20,000 to 30,000 miles. It would have been so easy for him just to replace them. First thing I'd like to say is if you're going to read a review please read this one you'll be glad you did. It's a little long winded but well worth the read. I'm your typical backyard mechanic who believes in diY. So here's the story. My son is driving along in my 2010 F-150 truck and hears a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. Once he gets home he finds a wobbling pulley which maintains the guidance of a serpentine belt. He's got to get to work right away so my daughter and I break out the toolbox. We get to work removing components that are in the way and start repairing the problem. So we put everything back together with the help of my younger brother at the end. We then turn the key and get a no crank no start engine. I don't see where we went wrong. I'm thinking fuses or electrical short. Long story short. I throw in the towel. There are a lot of big name shops but a few shops pop in mind and others recommended from friends and family. After pondering it for a grueling couple of days and a few phone calls I narrowed it down to one automotive shop that stood out the most. One that I've used in the past, one that I could trust and get the job done right with fair pricing and stands by their work and honest words, one that listen and tried to help me come up with ideas where I could possibly look for the problem before I threw in the towel. No pressure, and No familiar phrases like just bring it in with a repeating of the same phrase. I called Thousand Oaks Automotive and after explaining my personal situation to Hunter we talked about electrical problems and an amount it would cost me for a diagnosis which was a reasonable fee to run the diagnostics if need be and considering I did not know what was going on with my vehicle it might need to be done. Hunter said to me "Call me when you're ready we will find the problem and be as affordable as we can". Next morning I picked up the phone and called Hunter and told him my truck was being towed there. A few hours later I received a phone call from Hunter with good and bad news. It turns out my brother because it was such a hot day and he was tired from a long day at work he happen to leave off a nut while replacing the wires on the starter. Also thinking I was taking a protective measure by applying electrical tape to the wire harness the tape actually caused a separation between pin electrical contacts for the alternator. Go figure, who are the real nuts. LoL. That's the bad news. Good news is because of their expertise and professionalism they gave it a good once over on the work we had performed, found the problem and fixed it without having to run through a full diagnostics. Now there are good shops and their some not so good shops. Any other shop may not have even found the problem and probably would've ran up the bill and called it whatever they wanted. I'll never know because I chose to take it to TOA. Thousand Oaks Automotive with an honest professional automotive staff. Their Mechanics know what they are really doing. Hunter gives me the final cost of my bill....drum roll please... $39.95. WoW talk about honesty these guys are truly that! A Big Thank You to Hunter and Eddie and the rest of the staff from this backyard mechanic, "Who's brother got thrown under the bus", LOL. I highly reccomend this place. Brought my 07 Tahoe in a week or so ago for a misfire and turns out it was a cracked plug and coil needed to be replaced. It was explained to me clearly on what steps were taken to check for the diagnoses and what would have to be done. When you walk into the building what caught my eye was the welcome feeling from the office, cleanliness and there are pictures all the technicians working for them and copies of all their auto certifications. I have taken several vehicles to Thousand Oaks Automotive and have received excellent service every time.

1. I was charged $175 for a battery that retails for around $134. 2. A ford battery was put in my Nissan. I'm not happy with that. They replaced my Duralast with a subpar battery in my opinion. A Duralast would have been worth the $175. 3. I was charged $74 dollars for labor to replace a battery. My battery is easily accessible. I'm a woman. My battery dies due to the winter storm in Texas. I had to work and couldn't present to the shop. I had it towed there. I was told they had to "order a special battery". A Ford Max is NOT a special battery. My Duralast was. I believe they took advantage of the situation and of course heard a woman's voice on the phone...cha ching. I would NOT refer them. I probably could over look the $74 for the labor if a quality battery had been put in my car read more

Took my car in running and they returned it not working. They misdiagnosed a simple problem which should have been detected with the electrical/starting systems check that they charged me for. Then told me I needed to go to the dealer because they said it was a transmission control module covered under warranty. Had it been that issue, it would have been covered, however, it was not (the TCM was replaced last year per Dealer records before we bought the vehicle). So basically , they replaced a battery, couldn't detect with their diagnostic that there was a problem with the battery cable and starter relay. Then tried to charge an additional $100 that they did not call for authorization for what ended up being a completely wrong diagnosis. Either they didn't run the electrical/starting systems check like they said they did. Or they just didn't want to do the work. Either way, I would not trust them to do any work on any of my cars. I had thought they'd be trustworthy. My husband dealt with them also and they just don't do good business. read more

My car was completely dead in front of my apartment. I assumed it was the battery and called for a quote for a new battery. I had my car towed in to the shop. After inspecting my car, the shop called and said that my brake lights were stuck on and that's what caused the battery to drain. They charged the battery, replaced the pad that kept my brake lights sticking and even came and picked me up to get my car. I was pleasantly surprised that my bill was almost $150 than originally quoted! The entire process took less than 5 hours! Extremely pleasant and honest people. I just took my 2013 mini cooper into Thousand Oaks automotive because it was leaking coolant and there were issues with both the heater and a/c. I also asked them to check the lower control arm because last time I took the car to the dealership, they said it had to be replaced, which I thought was odd given there is only 50,000 miles on the car. Within a couple of hours I got a call from David Harris, the owner telling me there was no issue with the lower control arm. He said he actually went to doublecheck it himself to confirm..wow.what a relief, as that could of cost me a $1000 dollars more. When I picked up the car the next day everything was perfect and I saved a few hundred (not including the lower control arm) versus taking it to the dealership. Having had a terrible experience previously with a quick lube oil business, I decided to give Thousand Oaks Automotive a chance to change the oil (synthetic) in my Honda Civic. At the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted by a surly staff seemingly uninterested in my business. An employee at the counter quickly replied to my oil change request by stating, "We are not a 'quick lube' business...there is one down the road." At this point admittedly, I should have turned around and taken my business elsewhere but I politely asked if they would change the oil in my automobile. After asking, they answered in the affirmative, but claimed it would take some time. This was not unexpected as I had my wife follow me in her car and we had planned to run some errands. Fifteen minutes after dropping off my car, I received a call with an estimate: $270 and change for a simple oil change! At hearing this estimate, I told the employee on the phone to immediately halt all work on my automobile as this was an astronomical figure for a simple oil & oil filter change. My wife and I arrived back at Thousand Oaks Automotive to pick up the car and take it elsewhere but an employee stated that work had already commenced on the car. Another employee asked "why do you think that is a high price?" At this point, it took everything to keep my temper in check. I firmly (though politely) informed the employee that the last oil change cost roughly $80 to which he responded that "other work needed to be completed" on the car including the following: wipers, air filter, & cabin air filter. I firmly stated I just wanted a simple oil (synthetic) & oil filter change and that I would take care of all the other "needs" myself (at 1/5th the cost). After this exchange he re-quoted the price at $80 and change. Advice to anyone thinking about using this shop: GET A SECOND ESTIMATE. This is less an automotive repair shop rather a high pressure sales department that happens to dabble in automotive repair work as a mere hobby. read more

I went there a few months ago to get my inspection sticker renewed. They call me and tell me that I need to change out my fuel pump. I am not sure why but I am a bit desperate and out of convenience I go ahead and say yes. Fuel pump is replaced and I get sticker renewed. Please keep in mind again that I did not have any problems driving the vehicle. Just needed a sticker. So over the past few weeks I have been having some sporadic issues with my car. I just could not understand why but could only pinpoint back to this automotive place. So I decide to call them again for convenience and against a bit desperate. They tell me to bring it in. An hour later (and $100 plus bucks later), they tell me they have no idea what the problems and it will cost $300 plus bucks just to get started.....What? Did hear that correctly? I decide to pull my car out of there mind you minus $100 bucks. Would not recommend this place for anyone. read more

I definitely don't recommend this place. I've been taking my car here for years, and my car is gets worse every time. They charged me thousands upon thousands of dollars for "repairs" that didn't get fixed properly. They would "fix" my car just enough to last a few months before I would end up right back there. They would always ask me if I need a ride somewhere while my car is being worked on. I would tell them yes, and tell them where I needed to go. "Oh, we can't go out that far" is their response. Um, so why are you offering? Am I not a paying customer, who is loyal to you? I went and got my oil changed today. I was told that my throttle is being held together with zip ties. Really? Zip ties? Makes me wonder what else they put a "band aide" on. Everything they "worked" on must be held by zip ties. Like I said, I don't recommend this place. Because this is apparently how they not only treat their faithful customers, but this is how they treat single mothers who are barely making it as it is. Good job guys, way to go. read more

Yep. They get 5 stars from me. So, they were recommended to me through my neighborhood FB page. AC in my F150 making strange noise, accompanied by electrical smell, followed by air barely blowing while set on high. I showed up around 8:30am. They seemed very busy. Told them the problem. He told me I'd hear back soon. I expected that meant late afternoon, which is what I've experienced in so many other places. Before 11:00am, he called. He already thinks he knows the problem. By noon he calls back with diagnosis, price, and estimated time it will take. Mid afternoon. Before mid afternoon its done. Truck is in my driveway by 4:00. Here's the thing, they could have told me anything. Compressor, evaporator, anything because I know nothing about engines. I even said, "I hope it's not the compressor." They were honest; fan blower. Less than $500.00 when I was thinking it would be 2-3 times that amount. I have never in my life felt so satisfied after pulling out of an auto repair shop. They did things in such a timely manner, almost unreal. They will have my business from now on and I will recommend to everyone. Thanks to whoever I dealt with today. read more

Not these guys...they call me and say, come pick your truck up....not sure why it is squeaking because you have 70% left on front and back brakes! FOUND MY NEW REPAIR SHOP! I took my wife's SUV to Midas. They kept it for three days and returned it saying they could not find anything wrong. I set up a new appointment because the problem got worse. The appointment was set four days later (due to weekend) and when I arrived I learned that they lost it. Even though I had the email confirming the appointment, I was told that all the vehicles in the shop would go before me. So what's the point of an appointment if I am not set in a queue? So I started searching and found many great reviews for Thousand Oaks Automotive. They set up an appointment for the following day and within a couple of hours, they had found several problems. The vehicle was fixed by the next day. I thought the price was extremely reasonable for the amount of work they did, plus they honored a coupon that was advertised on their website! Great service.
