Very friendly staff, and a pretty neat looking place in how eclectic and kind of tossed together it is. Salsa is pretty solid. With all that said. Unreal slow. Sloooooooooow. And it was not busy at all. I can deal with that depending on the payoff, which here wasn't worth it to me at all. I tried some of the new school that my partner ordered and it was an alright cheese assault, I don't get the mashed potato thing though. From the ratings, apparently it works for most. Me, nah. Just weird and not a compliment to the spices I expect at all. Bigger issue was the quesadilla. The outside has a little cheese and spinach, but a good 80% of it is just heaps of chicken that doesn't taste like anything. Just not good at all I'm afraid. Really, really bland. Popular place and I am clearly the outlier based on the ratings, so YMMV. For me, we went out on a date and we did not like the same things, but I wish her well. read more

We came here on a girls trip. We loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked in. It's a little off the strip and definitely worth the few extra blocks. The staff gave us mustaches and that set the mood for an evening of laughs. Chef Cary came out to say hello and brought us a round of shots just because he's that awesome. Most importantly, the food was amazing!!! Fresh and made in house, the old school chicken burrito was out of this world. I would like to start off by saying I have been in the foodservice business for over 20 years. My family and I just eat here and it was one of the most god awful meals we have had. My wife and I shared a pitch of Margaritas and we all shared a small queso cheese dip. My wife had the chicken and spinach Burrito, I had the chicken and spinach quesadilla, our 15yr old boy had fish tacos and our 12yr old girl had a cheese quesadilla. Our two littlest girls (5 and 8 yr old) had chicken tacos-we asked to split their dish and the server was almost reluctant to do so since they do not split dishes. Sooo where do I start... the menu said everything is made "fresh". Our Margarita tasted like it was made from Kool-Aid lemonade dry mix, the "queso dip" was used with block American cheese, the salsa was tomatoes from a can-the only thing fresh was the added cilantro. The chicken everyone had was totally dry and the quesadillas and burrito were smothered with more block American cheese. The total cost of our "dinner" was $112 bucks. Please do not misunderstand, I am willing to pay for good food any day of the week but this was far from being anything good. So if you are into expensive cafeteria food, this is your place. Start off with a couple of the best margaritas I've ever had, plus guacamole so fresh YOU MIX IT YOURSELF, and you're on your way to a great Tex-Mex meal. I was nervous about the potato burrito, but since it was the only veg meal on the menu, I went for it. It was delicious! You get so much food that sharing would be a viable option, especially if you had drinks and an appetizer. Wonderful!! We had a party of 8 and the owner was very accommodating and so happy to have us. The salsa is made fresh every day and so are the chips. We couldn't get enough of the chips and salsa! Order the guacamole - it is so fresh and has a beautiful presentation. I ordered the shrimp and chicken tacos. AWESOME!! Everything from the tortilla to the cheese to the tomato and lettuce and amount of meat was perfect. My favorite was the chicken taco. Very cheesy and warm and a large amount of chicken. Sun City is not your typical Mexican cafe. It has a true local following. Brothers Cary and Brad have been running the cafe since it opened. My favorite is the Fish and Shrimp taco combo or the Sun City Quesadilla. I LOVE the fact that everything is made fresh in the kitchen - no canned salsa, guacamole, or black bean dip at Sun City Cafe. They do have vegetarian plates with special requests made to order. They've been very accommodating to private parties or large "girls night out for margaritas" gatherings. Just call ahead to let them know. read more

Personal business takes me to the Myrtle beach area occasionally. I'm from California, where their Mexican food is native. Always a treat, but you have to ask for the "extra hot sauce" and then still won't be blown away. I think it's more of a "locals joint" than catering exclusively to the tourists. The service may seem casual, but that's just the way they they treat their friends. Most of their customers seem to be greeted by name. They seem almost anxious to sit down with you and share your dinner with you, like a guest in their home, a style of Southern Hospitality you will not get in other restaurants. Small, but I've never seen it overcrowded. They have a full service bar if you are just looking for a drink. read more

Decent food, but only about average for what I had this week. And $77 for two adults and two kids? This place was far, far too expensive for Mexican. $2 sodas with no refills. The cheese dip tasted like someone melted some Velveeta. The waiter told us a story about some people griping about their prices, so apparently we were not the only people that weren't impressed with what you get for your money. We visited yesterday and were not disappointed. Short menu but fresh, delicious food. Super-friendly service, very clean, and a fun atmosphere. We went early for dinner (5:30) and were the only table, so no problem with a wait. The meals are HUGE and a little pricier than I expected, but worth it for such tasty, fresh food on the road. My husband and I had some leftover when we split the vegetarian (burrito) plate. Full disclosure: that was after munching lots of chips, salsa, and guacamole. The margaritas are excellent! My kids enjoyed the experience, but there is no kids' menu and since the plates are so large, feeding them isn't cheap. Great food, service, atmosphere, etc. we felt welcomed even though we were late to walk through the door and the last table of the night. Food was amazing, though it should be noted the burrito is not one that you'd pick up with your hands. More of a fork and knifer. We will definitely come back each time we are in town. read more

Cool, eclectic place near the ocean. It was tough to find, as they are apparently anti-sign. Look for the Ethiopian place on the south side of Main Street (501), then look across to the north side of the street for a green awning. Two things to note. 1. The burritos are seriously huge and $16. Splitting one (which we highly encourage) costs an extra charge of $5. Also, a CAN of Coke is $2. Need a refill? That's another $2. It would have been nice to have been told about that when ordering. We would have ordered ice water. There are no table menus, just a big chalkboard. The food was fresh and hot. The chips and salsa were fresh. And, as with any eclectic place, you've got to check out the restroom. :-) read more

Ok, so I am originally from San Fran bay area, I know awesome Mexican food, burritos etc. The moment I walked in it had the ambiance of a location in Berkeley CA. Friendly service, the salsa did seem to have tomatoes from a can, being that I make salsa myself and mine came in 2nd in a NC state salsa competition and have fans of my salsa I know my salsa. But I was not going to bust on the flavor, it worked and was good for eating. We opted for their regular burrito, their menu is on a chalk board on the wall so I did not even notice prices, and we were on vacation so price is not a issue if I get what I feel my money is worth. I have to say the burrito was tasty, but nothing I feel was worth paying 48 bucks for 2 people for. We had a cheese dip and 2 drinks each which you pay for each, no free refills. I expected mine to be additional as it was bottled root beer. Food was ok, server was good, however the price was just way to pricy for something that should only have been 24 to 30 bucks. read more

My friend and I used Yelp to try to navigate some places to eat during a recent visit to Myrtle Beach, and Sun City Cafe came up with rave reviews, so we decided to check it out. While the food is not what you'd call authentic Mexican, it was still the best we'd had during our trip. The guacamole was fresh and addictive, and my tacos were very flavorful, although I'm almost positive that they had American cheese on them. I've also never had a taco with bell peppers in it, but it tasted pretty good, so I'm not complaining. The service was a little on the slow side, but nothing outrageous. Take a burned out hippy, a few top notch recipes and a hideaway and what do you get? Sun City Cafe. One of my top spots along the Grand Strand. This is a small restaurant with lots of flair. Large portions make up for the short menu and the salsa is to die for. My personal favorite is the chicken burrito. It is large enough for three sittings. The one down side has to be the service, It takes forever. But what do you expect from a burned out hippy joint? If Tracey is you bar tender , you got it made! Was in Myrtle just for the weekend, and saw this places ratings on Yelp, and decided to try it out. The atmosphere is pretty awesome, and the staff is very laid back. We decided to sit at the bar, and order a pitcher of Margaritas. They were pretty good, there was a weird tang at the end of each drink, something about a 'secret ingredient.' The chips were pretty good, and the salsa was super chunky. I ended up getting the shrimp and fish tacos. I'd say if I were to order this again I'd just for the fish tacos. They were good, with big hunks of fish in them. The shrimp however were nothing special, they weren't battered or charge, just plain shrimp on a taco. My boyfriend ordered some crazy mess of a burrito, that involves mashed potatoes, grilled chicken and a whole lot of goodness. Let's just say it's even better the morning after you make it home from Tracey's strong margaritas. Overall the experience was good, with dirty jokes exchanged between bartender and guest, to the fake mustaches and sombreros that are at your table to use as you will. I almost hesitate to give the place 5 stars only because I am afraid it will get so popular I won't be able to get a table! Very small seating area but the food is maybe the most unique and tasty mexican I've ever eaten. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The burrito with chicken was great as others mentioned with the mashed potatoes inside. My wife and others at the table had assortment of tacos and everyone enjoyed it. We started out with the guac and it too was fresh and very tasty. The place is hard to find, but once you do the eclectic nature inside will keep you coming back. This place is amazing! I don't know what restaurant Louis P was eating at but it certainly was not Sun City Cafe. Their food is unbelievably fresh and extremely good. The menu is just a chalkboard that's on the wall but I think that's a good thing. They did have a limited menu but everything on there is fantastic! Why have a lengthy, mediocre menu when you can have one where everything is awesome? Their wait staff is very attentive and very friendly. Made me feel right at home. Quesadilla is in a league of its own. Only negative is there is too much cheese sauce on some of the food. Insipid! We have eaten here several times in the past and it was Outstanding. The last time we were here, the food was fresh, spicy and very good. You had to wait a relatively long time for your food, because it was not cooked until you ordered. But something has changed.. This time the food came out pretty quickly. There was a side dish of rice in a bowl which had been Nuked to the point that the bowl was untouchable. We had the fish tacos, which were completely anemic and tasteless. We were both dumping salt, pepper, the salsa, guacamole, Anything we could find on the Tacos to try and give them Some flavor...any flavor! They were edible, but Very forgettable. Again, something has changed. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it and we do not plan to go back. read more

Great place with very good FRESH food ! Not terribly authentic, but great none-the-less. Yes...limited menu..but changes often...(probably daily)...and everything I have had has been excellent. MAKE SURE you ask for a side of the "hot sauce"...house made with roasted peppers. Everything we had was superb. Excellent 'ritas. Server Tracy was convivial, efficient, and quite a sense of humor ! The other stoner server....not so much :) What would I change ?? Baked whole grain chips as an option rather than fried...whole grain for burrito or taco wraps....it is possible to offer folks healthy options without too much additional hassle for the kitchen. Would eat here more often if i had these options. I will not pay for a "split plate"...if ya gonna charge me...i will walk to the next place....thus always ask to keep it on one plate...which they normally split anyway without a charge. Just a well run...simple and adorable restaurant...good value...good food... locally owned. Don't forget to try the Ethiopian place across the street..which is superb as well. read more
