Beware of Sun Coast Plumbing's Dishonest Practices I had a terrible experience with Sun Coast Plumbing, and I want to warn others before they make the same mistake. After their poor installation of my water heater which caused leaks and damage to my property, I had to hire another plumber to fix their code violations and incompetence--costing me an additional $1,073.44. The second plumber identified the following issues: * No thermal expansion tank was installed, which led to the water heater's T&P valve leaking. * A gas sediment trap was not installed, as required by code. * The water heater was placed in a flat metal pan, and the burner cover had to be cut for installation. This approach did not allow for proper servicing of the burner assembly in the future. A plastic pan with inside grooves or bricks should have been used instead. The second plumber rectified these issues, including installing a thermal expansion tank, gas sediment trap, plastic pan, and a new T&P valve. At first, Sun Coast agreed to reimburse the full amount, acknowledging their mistakes. But then they changed their story and only refunded $748.44, falsely deducting $325 for a service I had already paid for! If you value honest, professional service, avoid Sun Coast Plumbing. They refuse to take full responsibility for their work, and their business practices are unethical. Don't get scammed like I did. read more

Just the type of person you want a your plumber. He actually called to confirm our appointment and then was there on time. Our concern dealt with the speed hot water reached our upstairs shower. Kent tested the time and told us the time was within standard and that we did not need booster ($650) nor a new hot water heater. He just suggested we turn the knob a bit further and it would meet our needs. He did all this and was incredibly reasonable in his fee. I rarely give reviews but I had to this time. I've had a hard time finding an honest and reasonable plumber until now. I had a leaky faucet that leaked underneath the sink as well and a clogged garbage disposal. Josh came out the day after I made my appt. and fixed everything in a timely manner. He was awesome!! I've unfortunately had to call Kent to my home 3 times for 3 different issues. I guess the good news is Kent is great and I went back to him 3 different times :-) I don't recall who referred to me to him...a friend, but it was a good referral. He is fast, knows his stuff, and gets things fixed quickly. On one occasion I had a leak from a neighbor's adjoining unit and it was very subtle. He had some sort of listening device where he could hear a pinhole leak through the wall. Cool! I've also had to have him fix a nasty drain problem with cameras that snacked down the pipe. When they opened the box to install the new water heater it was damaged. Kent ended up calling around and finding me a new much better tankless water heater, he picked it up brought it to my house and installed it. Unprofessional, disrespectful and careless are understatements. After reading some good reviews on this company and Kent in particular, it seems like we got the bad side of him. This is the very first Yelp review I have written. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and am pretty easy going when dealing with trade professionals. We were dealing with a pretty big leak in the basement of the 90+ year old house we're living in since this past December. Since our regular plumber could not tackle this job himself, he called around to several other plumbers who could come in and find the leak with special equipment. The only person he could find that had the equipment and would at least look at it was Kent. From the very beginning (mid December) it was evident that even Kent didn't want to do the job. He would delay coming out when promised week after week and it became very frustrating. Meanwhile we had to lay towels on the ground every day for almost two months to soak up the leak and prevent it from travelling to the rest of the basement. Kent finally came out a week and a half ago, found the area where the pipe was leaking with his equipment and started to chip out the concrete in the wall where the problem area was. Before any of this Kent was a very polite and respectful guy. No issues other than his lack of showing up when promised. While concrete chipping he ended up running his pointed chisel bit through one of the pipes that did not have the leak. Ok, not a problem, this kind of stuff happens, but he didn't have the common sense to use the correct hammer drill bit that would have prevented this from happening in the first place. He eventually ended up replacing more pipe than was expected and when he was finished with the job, we thought the leak was finally gone. All looked good until we noticed the leak again. Ok, still not a problem, these things happen especially with old pipes. We called him again and arranged for him to come back to reassess the situation. I also noticed quite a lot of concrete dust and debris that was still there after he left. Some of this heavy dust floated from the laundry room to the next room where we have a TV room set up. Its also an area where my two young daughters play quite frequently. Kent did not even have the common sense or courtesy of putting up a plastic sheeting barrier in the laundry room or closing the door between the two rooms to prevent concrete dust from traveling. He did not have the common sense or courtesy of laying a protective barrier over the area rug where he was constantly walking through. He did not have the common sense or courtesy of cleaning up after himself. Even after all this I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and chocked it up to forgetfulness. My wife and I ended up cleaning the big mess and debris ourselves. Kent and his helper arrived again today to figure out where the leak is coming from. More concrete chipping. After I got home from my graveyard shift I went and checked on the progress. As I walked downstairs to where the work was being done in the laundry room, I noticed that Kent was making himself at home and propped himself up sideways and laying with his feet up on our loveseat chatting away on his phone. He also pulled up a seat that my daughters use for their piano into the laundry room that he was also using to sit on. His lunchtime burrito sitting on the table in the laundry room collecting bits of concrete dust. Not cool and pretty disrespectful. So I said something to him about it. Right away, he got defensive and I could see that guilty look that people get when they know they have been caught and are in the wrong. I also said quite a few more things about the lack of respect regarding the concrete dust and debris. Something that he seemed to be totally oblivious about. Some facts about concrete dust. Crystalline silica is found in concrete. When concrete is made into a fine dust and suspended in the air, breathing in these fine particles can produce lung damage. The long term disease Silicosis which comes from concrete dust can be totally disabling and may lead to death. My youngest daughter has asthma. How do you think she will react to all of this dust in the air, on her toys, getting tracked up the stairs and through the house? Will Kent's lack of respect and carelessness effect my two daughters lungs or my wife's? I hope not, but the effects of inhaling concrete dust don't show up immediately. Its kind of like the effects of asbestos. So after a long back and forth argument with Kent about all of this, he finally agreed to finish the job but I ended up cleaning up again after him because I knew for sure he would not have done a thorough job. read more

Excellent and prompt service for a main sewer line blockage. The clog was so tough (tree roots) that he had to call in a colleague with a water jet to break through. Afterwards, they gave us all sorts of useful advice about how to keep the tree roots out of the line in the future. read more

We had used Kent for a plumbing repair once before and we called Sun Coast Plumbing, Kent and Riley, again to detect and repair a slab leak in our kitchen. They came out on the day that we called. They were able to detect and stop the leak, then came back the next day to re-route the plumbing lines through the ceiling. We've had no problems since and were very happy with the work they did. They minimized the need for ceiling repair by effectively re-routing the plumbing lines and referred us to a drywall and stucco repair person who did that job for us the next day. Our insurance company agreed with us that they did the repair for a fair price. We would use them again and we recommend them to others.
