Worst airlines I've ever been on. They delayed the flight twice then cancelled and would only offer a flight the following day at midnight when my flight was scheduled the day prior for 6 pm. Multiple people not paying for them just get let on with one, then if you dont get into the first or second zone & youre in the front few rows or first seat youll have to put your luggage in the back, as they dont reserve overhead room for adjacient rows, basically first come first serve. This company is the worst! Boarded our flight, then was told there was a delay because of weather. No Problem. Two hours later, after other planes were taking off to the same location, they mentioned they were looking for a new flight crew. Beings how it was in Minneapolis (hometown), maybe a 2nd crew could be found. A two-hour delay turned into a 3, 4, 6, 7 hour delay and then cancelled at 9:30pm. That was too late to catch any other flight taking off!!! When we called customer service, it was all because of a weather delay. I call bullshit on that. My belief was they knew it wasn't going to happen earlier because they couldn't get a new crew, but delayed telling people until it was too late to use any other airline. A real airline would've rescheduled that flight, found an alternative solution, or simply communicated better. At one point their agent at the terminal said for any delay over 4 hours they'd provide vouchers. That didn't happen. After the 7 hour cancellation, they just said, "Sorry. You'll have to find other arrangements!" It was just a terrible customer experience!! I guess you get what you pay for, but this was worse than even I could have imagined! Sooner or later, analysts will need to pay attention to the average yelp reviews of 1.7 out of 5, and downgrade the stock because of terrible service. Horrible, they cancelled our Thursday flight two hours before departure, simply because it was not full. The next flight out was not until Saturday. I could cancel and get a refund, but it was $400 each person to get a flight out on another airline! Sun country gave us one night in a hotel, however we had to stay two nights, they refused to pay for the second night, and refused to book us on another airline. We also lost out on income due missing work on Friday. Sun Country has typically been a very reliable and affordable airline for me, but my most recent experience them during July 4th holiday was a total disaster. My family and I booked a trip from San Francisco to Minneapolis/Saint Paul more than 6 months in advance. On the day of the trip to MSP, that morning they canceled our flight and rebooked us the next day, which was stressful and lost us a day. Then, our return flight from MSP to SFO was far worse. When we were already at the airport, they first delayed their flight for a few hours, then canceled it altogether. We had to return home as soon as possible for our work and kids and they booked a return flight for us, at a cost of $1,800 more on top of the refund of their own flight. When I politely asked them to cover the cost for the difference, they just outright refused. I don't plan to ever fly with them again, I believe their management has just cut staffing to the point they cannot even handle known high volume periods such as holidays. So far, I just don't like that they force you to pay an additional amount per seat to preselect your seats ensuring you're sitting next to your travel companion. I can still perform the duties, but I'm uncomfortable the whole trip if the seat doesn't reclne. Recently I flew from Taipei, Taiwan to San Francisco on Eva Air and all was fine. When I arrived in San Francisco, I had to claim my bags from baggage claim and resubmit them through Sun Country because I was entering the United States and flying on to Minneapolis. First, Sun Country did not put their own baggage ticket on my luggage, so the only thing on them was the one from Eva Air. I thought this was a little strange but let it go. Sure enough, when I arrived in Minneapolis, one of my suitcases was not there. The woman working the "delayed baggage" area was not concerned and assured me I'd have the suitcase by "tomorrow" - which I also thought sounded a little strange. Anyway, to make a long story a little shorter - luggage never showed up. Two times when I called I was given wrong information because the person answering the phone "was new" and "wasn't sure" - in fact she said my luggage had been found and was on its way to Minneapolis! 3rd time I called the gentleman answering said sorry you were given wrong information. I completed a claim form listing the contents, which were brand new irreplaceable souvenirs from Thailand. The gentleman told me they would not quit looking for my suitcase, but the claim form would help them possibly match my contents to the "unclaimed inventory" area. My suitcase and contents are not "unclaimed" I told him, they could easily be matched up with a "delayed baggage form" that was completed right away at the airport. But that didn't matter. When they received my claim form, they immediately emailed me and said they were sorry and would now pay me for the contents, so I knew they had quit looking. When they paid me, they subtracted depreciation, which they called product use. I told them these were brand new souvenirs from Thailand and there was no "product use". Didn't matter, I got the check minus the depreciation. So I am left with a very bitter taste in my mouth from Sun Country and without Christmas presents. read more

OK, this is a limited review of Suncountry's phone customer service only. Seems like a lot of people have beefs about the flying experience. At least Allan, with whom I just spoke, is a complete pro. I goofed up my known traveler number on the reservation and tried to fix it online, but the system wouldn't allow me to do so. It gave me a notice, saying call a certain number and fix it that way. The phone tree goes on for a while only to inform me that to fix my TKN I need to go back online. So I pressed the number for the name change and got this very competent and caring guy named Allan. Immediately! When I call United, I get a magazine handy and settle in for a good 45 minute read, just as a matter of course. Allen was on the phone in a nanosecond and fixed my problem in about three minutes. Kudos to Allen and whomever hired and trained him! I am cautiously optimistic about the flight coming up. read more

I was scheduled to fly from BNA-MSP on July 14. The night before my flight was delayed for two hours. I arrive at BNA the next morning and found out that my flight was delayed another 1hr and 55mins. No compensation was given because the delay was less than four hours. I arrived at MSP and completed my trip to ANC. The return flight was a different story. I was scheduled to leave ANC on July 26 at 8:55 pm. We checked our bags (one suitcase, one box of frozen salmon and an oversized fishing pole). We went to the gate loaded the plane and taxied out to the runway. We returned to the gate and waited on the tarmac for an hour and we were told to deplane, with no explanation of why. The flight was cancelled. We were rescheduled for the next day(7/27) at 3:30pm. Since we were traveling with a box of frozen salmon, we had to pay to store our fish in the freezer at the airport over night. We were told that our hotel would be reimbursed and they issued meal vouchers for that night. It was peak season in Alaska and hotels were EXTREMELY DIFFICULT almost IMPOSSIBLE to find. We found a hotel and went there and returned to the airport the next day (7/27). We checked our bags again and loaded the plane. We sat on the plane for an hour and a half because they didn't have enough staff to load the baggage. Once loaded we flew to MSP. We missed our connecting flight that was scheduled for earlier that day. We arrived around midnight on 7/28. Sun Country gave us hotel and meal vouchers and we were scheduled to leave at 4:54 on 7/28. We went to the hotel with our salmon in tow. We went back to MSP the next afternoon. We boarded the plane at gate H4 and within five minutes we were asked to deplane. The flight was then delayed. We were then told to move to gate H3. Then moved to H2. Half of us boarded the plane and then again asked to get off of the plane. The flight was delayed further. We were asked to move to gate H14 and before we could get to the gate they stopped us and told us to go to gate H5. We boarded the plane over four hours later than expected. One of the gate staff said "If I was you I would not fly Sun Country again either." I was given compensation in the form of future flight vouchers (That I will NEVER use). I arrived at BNA only to find out that my fishing pole was missing. I contacted Sun Country staff and she said she would go and look for it and never returned. I was in contact with Sun Country customer support several times over the course of this disaster but they were not much help. When I got home I filed two complaints, one for the lost fishing pole and another for the reimbursement of the hotel costs. The fishing pole is still under investigation. Their response to the hotel costs is they are only going to reimburse me for half of the charges, even though I sent a copy of the receipt along with the claim. Sun Country Airlines has not only lost a customer but seems to have very frustrated employees. I just want someone straighten this out and stop passing the buck. read more

If I could, I would give ZERO stars. Booked airfare for my family of 4 to Hawaii before COVID lockdown. Obviously due to COVID, we had to cancel but they wouldn't credit our $$ onto our account for future flights. Instead they told us we had to "book" flights to random destinations and then remember to cancel days before the flight leaves and book another random destination, cancel days before that flight, and so on and so forth-----just to keep our credit going (and not letting it sit in an account until we need it). What a pain! Isn't that the dumbest thing! They are hoping we will forget to cancel and then they get to keep all of our money. This is our first experience with Sun Country and it will be the last! Short version: I used to enjoy flying Sun Country the last few years. But they just had some recent changes that make it horribly frustrating. AVOID COMPLETELY. Full story: I recently booked tickets home (MSP) from SFO for the holidays as I have done the last 6 years of living out here. I travel with a service dog, so I don't travel very often at all. I buy a few extra seats so other don't feel uncomfortable sitting next to an animal. They have changed their policy and will not allow purchase of multiple seats for my service animal. Customer service has been HORRIBLE through this process. When I decided to just cancel my trip to see my family since they could not accommodate me, they were going to charge me over $200, more than half my ticket cost. They have lost a customer for life. read more

Nothing good to report here except perhaps the staff is nice once you actually get on board the plane. Their website often does not work. The last three flights I was unable to check in on line. Then they suggest calling, and EVERY time there is at least a 30 minute wait to get an agent, who actually can't help. So I resorted to going to the airport (PSP). NO ONE at the Suncountry counter. They send someone there for a few minutes when flights are arriving or departing that's it. Then I looked for ticket kiosks. NONE SC: You opened a route from SFO to PSP but are ill-prepared to do it well. As much as United and Alaska ( the other two airlines serving this route)are no treats, their technology generally works, you can check in on line, they have an APP (NO APP FOR SC), and are somewhat prepared to deliver basic services to a technologically enabled customer base. read more

If I can give them a negative star, I would. I was at the airport yesterday checked in and their online communication is the worst. Their online flight status that the flight was delayed until 5:58 pm and I went to the gate at 5:25 and the door was already closed for a 5:30 departure. Even post the flight leaving the flight status wasn't updated and still said 5:58 departure. Their online page says to check in with the staff if missed a flight. There was no staff there and no One at the check in counter. I called their customer service line and they took NO responsibility for their poor communication. The woman also shared that the boarding is completed and doors were closed at 45 minutes prior to departure and I said, based off what time, the flight delay on line (5:58) or email update (5:40) or the original time. Tried to cancel my return for 3 days after, the next day and they said I needed to pay a fee to cancel, but the fee was $30 more than my flight. Terrible customer service and communication system. Never again going to fly with them. As it was, I was uneasy about flying sun country with all the bad reviews.....should have listened to my gut. read more

Which made it nearly impossible to catch our next flight!!! My wife made it to the next flight but I got there right when they were supposed to start boarding but the door was closed!! They started boarding early and they wouldn't let me board even though they didn't leave for another 20 minutes!!! I had to catch another flight with another airline!!! Worst airline ever. Overbooked flights and the most unhelpful customer service unwilling to accept mistakes and make things right. My husband and I arrived on time and in line to drop off our baggage, before their 45 minute check in close time. Along with 4 other people, we waited at least 5 minutes for the ticket agent, who was helping someone at the airport who lost their phone to make a call with the counter phone. By the time we got to the counter, we were told sorry. There's no more room on the flight. Since it was now 40 minutes before our plane was departing, we were also informed the ticket counter was closed and we'd have to be put on standby for their next flight 5 hours later. It was unreal. I was on the phone with customer service supervisor Matt for 30 mins and was ultimately told we were considered missed flights and that there was nothing he could do. This is so clearly on violation of the Dept. of Transportation's violation of Part 250: overbooking of fights. We're prepared to take this as far as needed to make sure they don't get away with this scammy practice again. Their website broke when I tried to check in and it told me to check in at the counter. When I got to the airport the counter was closed, so I had no way to get my boarding pass. When I tried calling the line was so busy it wouldn't even let me hold. Also they charge $35 for your first checked bag and more after that. They also charge for seats. Also on the flight out something was broken on the plane and we had to sit while it got repaired. On the plus side, the plane flew in the air and then landed where it was supposed to. read more

On Saturday, August 18, 2018 I flew from San Francisco to Minneapolis on sun country Airlines. The day before when I confirmed my reservation I got a notice saying that I could upgrade to first class for an extra $118. So I looked at the seating chart on the website and chose first class row 3. I was shocked when I entered the airplane and realized that the first class seats looked exactly like every other seat on the plane. My first class upgrade entitled me to early seating, a Coke and a chicken sandwich. I was crammed in next to an overweight woman who had a huge carry-on bag stuffed under the seat in the middle which I had to navigate to get out to use the bathroom. There was a printed note from SunCountry on the middle seat explaining That I may not get the seat that I was expecting because they were changing the interior of their planes. We recently flew a round trip to Honolulu on this airline and had a great experience. This was our first time trying out Sun Country and weighed out the the possibilities of dissatisfaction due to our inexperience with the airline. The crew members were very attentive on both flights. They kept an overall clean cabin. They provided entertainment by streaming to your personal devices(which I did not expect). On the flight going to HNL, the on flight entertainment didn't work but it did coming back. We upgraded our seats to the 1st section with the most leg room (row 3) and had plenty of room for my husband, 2 year old and myself. Keep in mind, that they are a budget airline. So there was a fee ($30 ) for each checked bag prior to checking in. All they allow is a free personal item that you have to be able to put underneath the seat in front of you. To use the overhead bins, they are supposed to charge but they did not on either of the flights we took. They were very lenient with space! It was a pleasant surprise and we wouldn't mind flying with them again! read more

My boyfriend and I took this airline for our trip to Hawaii from SFO. My first impression for this flight would be messy, and unorganized. Our seats looked like there was dry throw-up/ food stains, and dust. The wifi was not working on our first flight. Also, flight attendants were extremely rude, and careless with all the passengers. One guy was splashed by hot coffee because they weren't being carefull as they were passing out beverages, another splashed with juice. Coming back from Hawaii there was only one person checking people in (no self service check-in provided), and we almost lost our flight due to this issue.
