I wanted to go someplace different for dinner tonight. So I found this on yelp. My son and I went in and it looked pretty nice. It was a cozy atmosphere and I like the decorations. I ordered the spicy Ramen with pork the General Tzo's Chicken and fried chicken Diosa. I also ordered a Diet Coke The Diet Coke was $3.50 and all it was a can pop. That showed me the price were going to be ridiculous right away. Came the fried Gyoza, which was not fried. It was clearly steamed or boiled. It wasn't bad, but it would've been a lot better if it was fried like I ordered it. Next came the Spicy miso Ramen . I ordered it medium spice, but it was very hot. It was hard to eat. Therefore I did not eat it. I only had a few bites and that's all I could tolerate. The pork was all fat . That was pretty bad to have all fat and no meat. All I could taste in the broth was what I could only describe as dirty ,fishy ,ocean water. Which obviously to me was disgusting. My general Tzo's chicken, I ordered medium spice and it had no spice whatsoever to it. It was very bland and tasted sweet. I did not like it.. Well, I left there starving and I spent over $40 on food that I couldn't eat. The prices are incorrect on yelp, all the prices went up, except for the pop ,that came down. The only positive or semi-positive thing I have to say is the waitress was really nice, and when you asked for something she went and got it right away. The only problem was it was hard to understand what she was saying or what she was trying to say. By the way, if you're from Yelp and you go in here, you will get either a free spring roll or a free, sticky mango, whatever that is. But when I showed the waitress my coupon from yelp, she said, my boss doesn't associate with yelp, although there is a Yelpie award right there on the counter. I have been to the location in Williamsville, but I had never been to the Niagara Street location. I had friends from out of town, so we met up for dinner there. The server was very personable, but service was slow, and a couple of things were forgotten. After she took our order, she didn't really come back to check on us to see if we needed anything else. We ordered fried chicken dumplings, steamed chicken dumplings, and vegetarian spring roll appetizers. They were fresh, hot and everyone enjoyed them. Several of us ordered chicken coconut noodle soup. Everyone enjoyed that. The other six people in my party all enjoyed their meals. I ordered Pad Thai for dinner. I was not all that hungry by the time it came because of everything else that I ate. However, I was not a fan. I have had pad thai from other restaurants and it was different from what I expected. The noodles that I've had at other places are different and I did not particularly care for the sauce. Having said that, I don't need a lot of Asian food. The Pad Thai was flavorful and came with a TON of bean sprouts on top, but it was okay. Would have liked a slightly bigger portion, but it was tasty which is most important. The curry had a nice flavor profile as well and was a Burmese curry so a little less thick thank Indian curry can be. The Paratha bread is special highlight that deserves oodles of praise and I recommend you get this by itself or with the curry (if you must) just to enjoy its tasty, flaky texture. Great for dipping in the curry as well. This was a takeout meal so can't speak to the service experience, but the ordering process was smooth on the website, but note that you can only pay with a giftcard online. The restaurant was very busy and they needed another server (and maybe another cook?), but not a big deal. The man ordered the Burmese fried rice with chicken and I had the Thai Pad Prig Pow with tofu and vegetables. Both were good - it great, but good. The Fresh Spring Rolls (unfried) were hand-rolled and really good. Overall, we didn't think the restaurant was as great as the recommendation, but it was pretty decent! read more

Such a great hidden gem! A mix of Japanese, Burmese, Vietnamese and Thai! Usually that's an indicator that the food is not going to be great but literally everything my friends and I had was incredible! The inside is dirty, rundown, smells horrible and frankly I wouldn't even want to stop in there for a restroom break, let alone eat food from them. Their meats are of the lowest quality and do not even taste like real meat. Vegetables are well past their sell-by date and should be thrown in the trash. I would be shocked if the oil they use to fry spring rolls and other fried items is changed more than once a month. We should be eating from Sun all the time. It's amazing. My brother was in town with two of his kids and we were doing a nostalgia tour showing them where we grew up and other cites prominent in our childhood. I then suggested that we have a Burmese feast. There were no Burmese restaurants when we were kids, but my grandfather grew up in the country formally known as Burma because his parents (and his father's twin brother) were missionaries there. So, it seemed fitting the share this with my brother and his kids in this trip about our roots. This was an awesome opportunity to order food for five instead of two, allowing us to really explore the menu. We ordered nearly every Burmese dish on the menu and everything was excellent. With 40% of us not being meat eaters, we got just one of the 3 meat curries. My brother chose beef because it seemed more unusual - his family has had lots of chicken curries. I have never been disappointed with the food here. They have been surprisingly consistent thoughout the years. Gather around children, for I have a tale to tell of my day of adventure. It was a lovely day in the GBA and I had a follow up at the doctors in Amherst. Since I live on the other side of WNY after the doctors I figured I would hit up establishments I haven't been to in a while that use to be a life staple back in my day. The first was a steak sub from Good Guys in North Tonawanda. If you haven't had you are seriously missing out. As I was zipping over I was excited to eat half in the way home and save half for later or the next day. Upon arrival I saw they were closed until 3 on Monday's. My heart was crushed. I was saddened by all this but I knew my other good stop would make up for this disappointment. So off to Athena's for souvlaki! As I drove down the twin city expressway I was imagining me eating the crinkle cut fries as I drove home and then needing to choose if I would eat the steak or the chicken souvlaki for dinner. Again I pull into a parking lot only to see an establishment closed. What is going on?? Siiiggghhh. I then started my slow roll out of town full of disappointments. As I was heading down the Niagara section of the thruway enjoying the lake view I thought to myself. . . Self . . Thai sounds good. Maybe a good pad Thai can make up for all the other dashed food dreams. A quick tap of yelp, an ask for Thai and the list quickly popped up. Look there is one just off the thruway at the next exit! Bonus! I will not lie, the higher rating had me worried. Sometimes those higher ratings do not represent the quality of the food. One good sign from above was seeing a food truck in the parking lot sporting the same name as the establishment. Another good sign was a couple walked in who seemed excited to be back. Let's all return to the fact that I was there to get yummy Pad Thai. That was my goal. That quickly went out the door as I read through the menu. Have you ever been told not to grocery shop while hungry? I recommend not walking in here while starving because you haven't eaten yet. As I read through the menu I was met with many of things that sounded so good that I need them. There were also items I came across that I had no idea what it was but wanted to try. What did save me was that a few of my selections they were not serving that day or I would have walked out with way more food than I did. Fried spring rolls?? Yes please! I wish they were a little bit bigger but they tasted really good. Fried gourd? What is that? That Sounds interesting. Let's get that also! Those also tasted quite good but I wish they were fried a bit more crispy since they were more a soft fry which two soft textures kind of throws things off a bit. Oh look sushi! This is where I was okay with them not serving a few options. I had ended up with two different rolls and I am sure it wouldn't matter which I would have chosen that I would have enjoyed them just as much. What did catch my eye as I looked over the menu 47 times, was the Suns "loaded" fried rice. Everything about this just sounded delightful. This made me do my food happy dance and no matter how much happiness this brought to my life there was a bit of sadness when this was all gone. I will have dreams about this fried rice and I will need to pop in just get get a bowl of this often. In case you all have been wondering yes. . . Of course I had the chicken Pad Thai which was one of the best I have had in the area to date. I look forward to trying many more items off them menu during future visits. I have not tried the Thai or sushi offered here, as I find the opportunity to have Burmese dishes impossible to pass up whenever I visit. The vaunted black rice is excellent--do make a point of ordering it if you eat here, as it is unusual to find in most of the USA. I've found this restaurant's version of food from Burma to be hearty and satisfying. The pumpkin stew is my particular favorite. The ambience is fine, not fancy. The servers are friendly and attentive. Seating in the booths is comfortable enough. Since many national cuisines from Asia have become mainstream in this country (eg Chinese, Japanese, Thai), it will be the tasty and still exotic delights from Burma that will impress your date, anyway. read more

I have never had Thai Food before I visited Sun Cuisines and I would certainly say that this was a great place for me to get my feet with a new cuisine. There are two locations, one in Williamsville and another in the West Side is Buffalo. I checked out the Buffalo location and it had a very intimate vibe. We must've come at the perfect time because we walked in without a reservation around 4pm and just as we were finishing up our meals, the crowd starting rolling in and several of the groups did have reservations, so I would definitely recommend making one. I got the Thai Basil Fried Rice with Chicken. It was well-seasoned and somewhat spicy. All and all, it was really tasty, but next time I visit, I'll have to continue to explore the menu. My husband got sushi (I forget what kind), but their sushi is made with their signature black rice instead of traditional white rice. If you're a little too nervous to branch out to the black rice, you can request white rice instead. read more

Its a great Asian fusion restaurant with comparatively better decor. The Tom yum is exquisite, with the right balance of flavor and that hot kick. Get the seafood mix or the vegetable mix. You won't regret it. The samosas are a little different than the indian types. These are crunchier with, I can't explain why it tasted different lol. I tried the soft crab and the Burmese flat wide noodles. The spice level was just enough to make me sweat, but not hate myself. I could tell they didn't just dump sriracha to make my food spicier like how many restaurants do that. Overall, the experience was great and I would be going back. read more

Coconut shrimp was perfection. It was crispy paired with a sweet sauce that tasted like it had a little bit of coconut in it. The pad thai was Great. Good portion size and noodles to meat ratio. Not too saucy. I tasted my partner's Pad kee mao which was also good. They have pretty much kept us alive during quarantine. I've been through the whole menu but I consistently get the mango black sticky rice for dessert. It's one of the most delicate, delicious, and simply fantastic desserts I've ever had. They have a huge variety on the menu ranging from Burmese to Thai to general Asian fusion. We have a vegan in our family and the menu is extremely friendly to anyone with dietary restrictions. The spring rolls are fresh and gigantic and although they are appetizer sized at most places it could easily be a great lunch. The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of food you are receiving. This isn't just another takeout place. Both locations are very clean and decorated nicely. The food is fresh, tasty, and well seasoned. The Gaeng Panang is my favorite. It's a Thai curry with coconut milk, lime kaffir leaves, red pepper, yummy chunky mushrooms, squash, carrots, green beans, and green peas. I added tofu to mine for protein, it's an excellent light, sweet, spicy, and satisfying dish served with white rice. The Kat Kyay Kite or Burmese Flat Wide Noodle is another excellent choice. Hardy, spicy, and filling-without-being-overfull type of nutritious goodness. It has garlic, hot and sour sauce, scallions, vatana beans, and bean sprouts. High in fiber and taste. There are so many menu options you will need many years and many return visits to enjoy them all. So much sushi, so many yummy treats including the sticky sweet mango roll with black rice... But then, it was a first time for trying lots of different dishes and sides and not one of them was a disappointment (all vegetarian friendly). We took the recommendations of our server and he was more than helpful with any questions I had, even going so far as to crack a few friendly jokes here and there. The black rice menu has some of my favorites while my son is a super fan of the pad Thai entree. Recently decided to look over the Burmese options and loved the rice noodles with chicken curry sauce. Visited this, the original location, for the first time recently. I had previously been to the newer, Williamsville location several times and was always quite impressed! As much I enjoyed said Williamsville location, I think I enjoyed this one even more! The ambiance was a tad more relaxing and subdued, and the service was top-notch. The hardest thing about Sun Cuisine is deciding whether to go the Thai route or the Burmese route...or simply the sushi/black rice route! To start, my fiancee and I split the Grand Avocado roll - which is a Sun Cuisine tradition for us - it is seriously so good. I ended up eating a spicy, but not too spicy Thai dish wish shrimp (actually, I was a bit surprised at the lack of "heat," might request some extra kick next time). Regardless, it was delicious. Oh man. I am not sure what has happened in recent months. I went with my roommate after seeing raving reviews and also have food from their food truck some time ago. I have to say, I should have listened to my instinct when we arrived and it was almost empty during prime dinner time. I ordered the date night sushi combo (two rolls is enough for one person- please) and the pad see ew. Both not very good at all. The noodles were bland and the beef was chewy. It did not help that while we were eating a long time patron came in and specifically complained about how this was his go-to place for pad thai and that now it is horrible. My sushi was okay but not what I wanted it to be. Perhaps that was my fault. I just was overwhelmed by the consistancy and the price. I walked out paying over $20 with a tip for two non-specialty rolls. We were both really unimpressed and left pretty confused. I hope this restaurant returns to what people once boasted about. I like the food but the service has been pretty bad lately- You're much better off ordering from door dash and eating in the parking lot. The online and delivery orders are pretty much all they pay attention to so you're left sitting at a table essentially getting in the way of their online business. Thats fine if you want to be online only- but don't be open for business and leave people sitting at the tables totally ignored. The mango roll and the sweet potato roll are delicious. The Sun Cuisines in Williamsville has been my favourite sushi place in Buffalo for years and it somehow took me this long to visit the Black Rock location (I did order delivery from here once though). I came here last weekend while having a hankering for some sweet potato rolls and luckily the restaurant wasn't packed when I got here. The place itself isn't quite as nice as the Williamsville location but is still nice enough and has a friendly staff. Although deciding was tough I ended up ordering a sweet potato roll and a seared beef roll for dinner (a decision I would not regret!). The food didn't take too long to come out and before I knew it I was overwhelmed the choice of what roll to eat first. The sweet potato roll was top notch and easily one of the best I've had (the Burmese black rice totally makes a difference). The seared beef roll was also very good, and although they were definitely falling apart I'm assuming that has to do with the weight of the rolls? I'm just guessing but either way it doesn't take away from how good they were. Overall, Sun Cuisines is a top notch establishment offering top notch options for Burmese and Thai dishes that will not leave you unsatisfied.
