My brother took his truck to this location because his truck had overheating. They wanted to charge him 1900 to replace the radiator and stater then told him that his motor needed to be replaced for 11,000 because it started to make a clanking noise and the sensors were going off. He took the truck home, replaced his radiator and stater. The clanking noise was still there so he replaced his motor oil. When he drained it he noticed something odd mixed in with the oil. He took the pebbles out and cleaned them. Turns out they were beans. Once the beans were out they weren't hitting on the sensors and the truck started right up with full power, no clanking and no codes. Beware of this shop! read more

Expensive mistake on my part. $6000 mistake. $3000 in repairs that didn't work and $3000 in lost income as my car was sitting in their shop for a total of three weeks not working making money. It's my fault. Shame on me for putting trust in Sun Devil. Lesson learned but an expensive mistake on my part. I ended up having to trade the car in without working A/C after spending close to $3000 at Sun Devil. I had to have a working car and didn't want to trust spending more money at Sun Devil. My wife and I have used Sun Devil in the past, but no more! I called and made an appointment to have a set of mud flaps installed on my new car. They took the appointment, I went in, and was told "the mechanic is not comfortable installing them!" Absolutely terrible service. I went in because my check engine light came on and my AC stopped working . They put in a bad AC compressor which delayed me getting my car back. Then two days later the spark plugs they replaced caught on fire while I was driving. Changed my rating from a 2 star to 1. Here's why: The day after i got my oil changed i noticed a huge oil leak in my driveway. Wondered if it was normal. Parked my car on the street. Ched it again the next day. Waaaaaaay too much oil leaked again. Called Sun Devil Auto. Matt told me to bring in the car and they'd check it out. I did. I was told that when they changed my oil the rubber thing that drains the oil broke and the mechanic "didn't notice". So now....a wk later. My car went from having no issues to so much more than i could have ever imagined. Tried this place. Hate this place. Should have paid closer attention the day i got my oil changef there was a man talking to the guy about really bad yelp reviews. The employee assured him tjey fixed the problem for the yelper. I agree. They "fixed" a problem they created when changing my oil....but caused such more expensive ones. Heed the warning....do not stop here. Got an oil change. Total price $24.00 Didn't hear a thing about the supposed inspection they do. No tire rotation. Wait was only 1 hour Nice, fresh, waiting area. I paid the bill on 2/17/2023. The engine problem was no better when I drove it home despite being told the mechanic had test driven truck I took it back same day and was told it needed a variable valve timing control solenoid.... that turned into a bad camshaft then a mechanic or someone told me he forgot to put on a bolt on the timing then the story changed too I have a loose bolt they never went into there now im getting billed again for them to fix a mistake a mechanic made that likes to get drunk Fridays and I'm told he will have fixed Saturday.. im sure u can guess on a Friday that person is shooting for a three day weekend but no I called Monday as nobody calls me and he had a 4 day weekend. I left several glowing 5-Star reviews about this location several years ago... But that was under a different management staff. Nowadays, the service is just not the same and you can only attribute that to the people who currently work there. So this most recent visit I dropped my off vehicle Friday afternoon at 4:30 PM, fully knowing it would not be looked at until the following day. By Saturday at 4:30 PM, after not hearing anything, I called for an update. I was told that no notations were left about my vehicle and so it was not inspected. I asked that he please leave a note for Monday and I was told that he would. *Curious however that he never asked me as to what issues I was experiencing with my vehicle... since he just told me there were no notations made to direct them??? Clearly, they dropped the ball on my vehicle. So we roll to Monday because Sunday they are closed. It now 5 o'clock Monday afternoon, they have had my vehicle for over 50 business hours and they still have not called me once with an update. So again I called the shop and was told the manager has already left for the day and that he must have gotten busy and forgotten to call me. Another excuse for poor performance! I was told there is nothing wrong with my vehicle upon their examination. Great. Nice of you to notify the customer of such. **Oh and again, no apology was offered. So I pick up the vehicle the following morning and nothing was said to me other than here's your keys. I checked around and found out their price was within the general frame as others. So since I live in the area, I decided to use them. Let me say that Matt and Dustin were very helpful and honest in their opinions about my vehicle. I couldn't even bring myself to give this place 1 star but I had to post this review to save anyone else from being taken advantage of. I don't understand why this place has 5 star ratings (unless if it's basic car care maybe but highly doubt it) This was the worst experience I have ever had with a auto shop.. My son brought his truck there a week ago because it was not running correctly, he couldn't drive it over 30mi/hr. They had it for 2 days then told my son it was the fuel pump. After charging him $950, they said that he needed transmission work and IMRC. Why would you replace a fuel pump then?? I still haven't gotten an answer. The truck was in the same condition as when we originally dropped it off. I called them after my son called me upset and frustrated, the person I spoke with was rude and condescending. Talking to me like I didn't know anything about cars. Then when I asked for the original fuel pump back he told me that it was probably in the dumpster and I could go get it out of there if I wanted it. Now I know why they have over 43 complaints with BBB and over 13 complaints just this year alone. Do your research before going here. They charge $150/hr just for labor fees and they charged $428 just for the fuel pump and sensor! Absolutely Insane!! read more

I needed my 2016 Honda Civic's evap core replaced so I was shopping around looking for a great deal. I called and spoke to derek he said they have done many of them and they had a great deal for me. They replace it and then 2 Months later my air has gone warm. I take it back in and they claim its my compressor which had already been replaced. So I took it to Honda and they told me it was my evap core. So i took it back to scam auto here aka Sun Devil Auto and they redid it but wouldn't fill my freon because "they had no proof of it being the evap core" but for some reason they still replaced it. So after all this I come to find out that my Honda was the first one they had replaced an evap core on. LIARS!!! DO NOT USE THIS PLACE EVER!!!!!!! read more

While in town visiting my parents my alternator suddenly went out. I chose his location because it was the closest to my parents house and I'm so glad I did. Dustin, who usually answers the phone, was friendly and helpful. He kept me in the loop about my car which is rare in the auto service industry (in my experience). They completed the work same day as promised. My CD changer began acting up after they worked on my car, and when I called to ask if they thought there could be any correlation, they immediately offered to check it out for me (I didn't even have to ask). The manager, Matt, explained that CD changers are notoriously unreliable, and after checking, it wasn't a result of the alternator repair. I knew it was a long shot, but I was so surprised at how willing they were to check it out for me. Excellent customer service and communication at this location. read more

This has to be my favorite place to go when I need an oil change, or if I have any concerns with my car I know I will be taken care of at this particular location. The staff is amazing, the manager always goes above and beyond. Any time I called they always know exactly who is calling and they always know my name. They build great relationships with their customers, and for being a chain location I feel like I'm at a mom and pop shop. I always trust these guys are going to be completely honest with me and tell me exactly what I need to know, they never try to sell me anything I don't need like most places. I feel like they take the time to explain what is NEEDED for my vehicles and don't sell me unnecessary things. I also love that you can make an appointment, which I highly recommend. I brought my vehicle in to have the brakes done because they were squeaking really badly. I paid them $500 to fix my brakes. After I pay them $500 I'm driving away and I can still hear a slight squeak when I brake. I call them and they say yeah bring it in we'll take care of it. I had to leave the vehicle with them overnight and have someone give me a ride to work the next day. I pick my vehicle up the next day and guess what? There's still a squeak noise when I brake! The service advisor tried to tell me it could be from a rock going up there. Really? My brakes squeak because I had them done at Sun Devil. Also I paid $150 for a battery from this place that only lasted me one year. The service advisor tried to lie to me about when I got it ( to make it sound like I had had it for more than one year) and I'm like umm no I have the receipt right here. I had an ongoing issue with my ac that turned itself on and off whenever it wanted to. I was told by the dealership as well as several other mechanics that I 100% needed both resistor and blower motor and had no way to test 1 without the other so I absolutely had to buy and install both. Derek Doster explained that I very likely didn't need a new resistor and that he could check it In Hope's to save me the additional cost, and even contacted vendors for the best cost on parts. He took great care of me, did everything he could to save me money and got in all done same day. I've never felt more confident in the safety of my car as well as customer service in any car related services over the years, then I did yesterday. I also wanted to tha k Jeff mankee who was covering the front from a different location who patiently answered any other question I had as well as assisting the back in expediting the work because something came up and I needed my car back sooner then I had anticipated. I was in and out in 45 minutes, the service advisor Stephen, was very helpful, and recommended I go to Asian grill while they work on my car. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, Since YELP deleted my husbands review for not being first had, (strange since we are married) I am writing this review myselfThese guys are crooks!!!!!! I would give them no stars, but you can't. They take advantage of women and the elderly. I recently went in for an oil change and they tried to convince me of $2400 worth of work. First off, their shop rate of $150hr is absurd, the ford dealer rate is only $135. They quoted me $533.00 to replace the oil pan gasket!!!! Are you kidding me!!!! They also told me that since the front differential was leaking from the cover, I needed to do all the seals in the axle, to the tune of $1200. Both of these leaks are very minor, they don't even leak on to the ground. Then they wanted $120 to install a belt, $40 for the belt, and 1/2 hr to do the labor!!!! My husband (who is not a mechanic) went and got the belt (which was $20) and installed it himself in literally 2 minutes!!! I took my vehicle to another shop for a second opinion, and they found that it wasn't even the oil pan was leaking, it was the oil filter housing gasket, which cost me $200. They also serviced BOTH my front and rear differentials for a total cost of $220, my vehicle has NO leaks now. I highly encourage you to get a second opinion before having Sun Devil do the work. I promise you, you will find that they are waaaaaay over priced and recommending things that DO NOT need to be fixed. read more

My husband's car was just repaired here and he is happy with how the car is driving. The rating is due to the price. He had his alternator replaced and was charged $559 parts plus $345 labor for $904 before tax. I had checked price and was quoted under $600 out the door (parts/labor/tax) from another highly rated nearby autoshop. Unfortunately, my husband had already approved the work. He did show the price when he went to pick up his car and was told the Sun Devil price was lower, but this was only comparing the Sun Devil parts price vs the out the door price at the other shop. He had other work done and I am afraid to know how much we could have paid elsewhere on that as well. Aside from price, the employees were friendly and the work was completed in about 1.5 days. read more

Beware! My 86 mother took her car to Sun Devil Auto located at 9716 E Riggs Road because her check engine light was on - we assumed it was because her car was due for an oil change. A month later I discovered that they charged her $2,995.07! She told me the man at the garage told her all these things were needed on her car, she got scared and didn't understand so she told him to go ahead and fix it with no understanding of what it was or what it was going to cost. She has a 2005 Buick Lacrosse with 44 thousand miles on it. She purchased the car new and it has never been in an accident. I was furious! Struts, suspension control arm and ball joints need to be replaced because of wear and tear - Industry standard is around 100.000 miles not 44,000! I have driven her car recently, it has been regularly maintained and cared for, she didn't need an alignment, it wasn't pulling, it wasn't overheating, the hood lift supports were fine! Brake fluid flush - industry standard is to never flush the brake fluid. It is a sealed case that rarely needs attention, maybe after 100,000 miles and if the vehicle was regularly used to tow heavy loads. Power steering fluid also typically lasts the life of the vehicle, maybe after 100,000 miles. Fuel system kit - industry standard is 60,000 miles. These people saw an old, confused lady and took advantage of her and at the time they did it - they knew it! I talked to shop manager Matt, he immediately deflected, defended and denied everything without even looking up her record. Once I saw how Matt's customer service skills were I was in serious doubt that upper management would be any better. When you get to a manager and they don't provide you with "any" customer service then that is typically throughout the company. I then called the general manager and I got the same thing. He deflected, defended, denied, argued, everything you learn "not" to do when dealing with an unhappy customer. I asked to see the data from the diagnostic computer and he refused and told me there wasn't any. The entire conversation with the manager and the general manager they never once said "I'm sorry", "what can we do to make you happy", "let's meet to go over these charges and I'll see what I can do", they offered nothing but excuses and false claims. This company needs to send all of their managers to "Soft Skills Training", "Customer Service Training" and most of all "Ethics Training"! read more

These folks could have taken me to the cleaners - since I had no clue. I was using the wrong key - which only opened the doors, but would not turn over the engine. I thought fuel pump, electrical, fuse, etc. They kept my truck for a few days to replicate the problem in the shop and no luck - since I gave them a good key!! They towed me twice to the shop and tried everything to no avail. As a hunch, they asked about the key and ZAP - I remeber I switched my key. They charged me almost nothing for the towing, diagnostic work on the car and resetting the theft deterrence system. This act of honesty and thoroughness could not come at a better time - going through a rough patch - economically. I owed them a least a positive review. read more
