Placed order 12/9 for Christmas. Received order confirmation but no other communication and finally inquired on Christmas Eve asking where it was. Got no explanation, just an email saying it was canceled due to lack of stock. No apologies or anything. Can't even tell the person the gift will be late since I'm only just now being told it's not coming at all. Horrible customer service. read more

Very disappointed and have a very bad taste in my mouth about their business practices. I ordered a hat from their online shop. It was an expensive hat. Retails for about $79. It was on sale and I paid about $60. Which is still more than I normally would pay for a hat but this brand gets great reviews and most people say they are worth it. When the hat arrived and I pulled it out of the box it was filthy. It's a light colored hat and it was full of dirty marks as if hundreds of people had tried it on with dirty hands as it was mostly over the bill of the hat. Mostly on the right side where once would expect to see wear and tear from a mostly right handed population. I was expecting a new product and not a display model. If they were selling it as a discounted price because it was a floor model it should be clearly marked and the condition of the product clearly disclosed. Trying to sell something as new that is clearly used and beat up is extremely deceitful. When I emailed them they offered to give me an additional 25% off. Leaving me still paying roughly $50 for a dirty hat or returning it. Which in the city I live in is an extreme inconvenience. Lots of traffic, no parking anywhere, and long lines everywhere. Nothing is easy here. Since this specific color isn't available they said they couldn't exchange it but also didn't even offer to give me a similar hat in a different color. Needless to say, I will not being doing any further business with this company. I hope they don't try to sell this item to someone else in this condition trying to pass it off as new once I return it. I feel like if an item isn't in brand new condition or is a display or floor model this needs to be disclosed. read more

We were really disappointed with the experience we had with Sun Diego. We went early on a Saturday morning and there were no other customers in the store but us. When we came in the worker at the register looked visually upset that we were there. While we were in there he did not say a thing to us or look at us. There was another worker who was hiding in the back of the store, who when I walked by would also not look up at me either. Although the place seemed to have really great things, we decided to leave. On the way out the worker at the register decided that was his time he wanted to talk to us, when we were no longer a bother to him. He said "have a great day!" It was very frustrating and we knew then he really didn't want us there. read more

This company needs to get with the times. And have a more flexible return policy. I bought a pair of flip-flops and they were defective and because I wore them once, and didn't have the original tag, they didn't except a return. I think they've lost the basic concept of marketing and it's all about repeat business. I am a 20 year customer and now I'm no longer a customer. Think of all the things that they're giving up in sales just because of this. Hopefully, their management will reach out to me and try and understand what went wrong here. Bought my husband a new long-sleeved wet suit here back around Christmas time and I brought his short sleeve one to show them the size. The guy that was helping me was really nice. I got my husband a pair of Reef sandals as well and they didn't come in 13's, but the guy was nice and explained to me that it would fit him. I got to the register and the guy ringing me up was nice and gave me a few free monster drinks and we had a conversation about surfing, very friendly staff. Came back here a few days ago with a girlfriend to get a new surfboard and they were really helpful and it turned out that the particular surfboard was on sale so it worked out for all of us. I come here from time to time as well to get their surf wax, love the scented ones and they're cheaper than the other places near the beach. read more

And this place was not going to let me down. lots of boards and lots of clothing form shoes to shirts. Men and women stuff. The back filled with boards of all delights. They even carry OluKai sandals and shoes. That's a rare to find. I love the concept they have here. The staff very attentive and always willing to help. I kept being asked if i needed help. Here is my update. Shortly after I posted my experience with Sun Diego, I was contacted by Sun Diego's VP of operations and another manager. They apologized for the lack of information I was given regarding, the "home delivery" process. They explained to me how it really works and once they did it made complete since. They also assured me that the staff at Sun Diego would be retrained on what actual steps accrue when you do a "ship to home" transaction and make sure that information is given to all customers. Thank you VP and manager for contacting me. Thanks for listening to me as a customer and the willingness to make things better. Walked in here this weekend and purchased a bikini. A nice guy (Matt - i think) was very helpful, respectful and super professional. Walked out happy, i got the fringe bikini top i really wanted and the customer service was exceptional. The top i bought goes for a little bit more on line so i saved some money. My review is based on a purchase for a longboard skateboard on an Thursday night. To preface, I am a female and a beginner to the sport. I was assisted by female staff and it made a world of difference to hear opinions and tips in starting out without feeling out of place, like I might with hyper-masculine staff. The employees were knowledgeable and seemed genuinely interested in getting me the best setup for a first board. They were able to provide their opinions in what I should pick but were also non-pushy when it came to my purchase decision. I decided to change up the wheels from the original setup and Taylor went all out in making sure that the wheels would be properly secure and aligned to my preference. Also, they were chill and let me try out different boards in the store for an ample amount of time so that I could get a feel for the variety of decks and wheels. The prices are reasonable, again for the boards only, and I would not be able to get the kind of personalized service and feel out the boards like I would online. If you are a UCSD student, they can offer you a 10% on skate accessories as well as tell you the best places to learn on campus! Also, the store changed locations are now located near Nordstrom and on the second level next to Boudin Bakery. read more

Every time I go into this Sun Diego, the staff are courteous and willing to help. They're not overbearing like some stores, where you feel as though you are being followed by a dog and watched like a hawk. Here, they basically inform you they are willing to help, should you need it. I was looking at sandals once, and the salesman was very friendly and informative. He offered suggestions, and I ended up buying a pair I am very happy with. The store is always clean, and has a very fresh appearance. They have quite the selection of sunglasses and bathing suits, since clearly, La Jolla is a beach community. read more

I usually come here every summer to do back to school shopping or to buy things for our summer vacations. When I came here today I was greeted in the back by Alexis. She asked me how my business was doing. I was shocked that Alexis remembered me. It has been a year and she knew all about it. It just shows how amazing and sincere she is. Love this store, but it's smaller compared to the NCF and Fashion Valley locations. It still has all the clothes, watches, and sunglasses that i'm looking for. Customer service is good here (unlike A&F). Prices are creeping upwards, so wait for a sale if you can. read more

A few months ago, I came into Sun Diego with my 12 year old nephew. He was interested in buying some skateboards (they had a great sale!). Kelvynn helped us & picked out the right size boards & accessories needed. An avid skateboarder, he was very knowledgeable & enthusiastic to help a young skater. The grin on my nephew's face as we left was priceless. Fast forward to the day before Christmas. This time, my cousin & I are shopping for the before mentioned nephew. Kelvynn remembers me & asks about my nephew's boards (also got major points for calling me "Miss" not "Ma'am"). Again, he was a great help. As hectic as last minute Christmas shopping can be, Kelvynn made sure that we were well taken care of. We left Sun Diego very satisfied with our purchases knowing that we chose a terrific gift. I live closer to the Sun Diego at North County Fair but the customer service at the UTC store will definitely make me take the extra trip. The store itself is busting to the seams with merchandise. The clothes selection is fantastic, they have every Stance sock you could possibly think of, shoes, sunglasses and an endless supply of surf & skate accessories. As overwhelming as it can be, it is fairly easy to navigate through the small store (unless it's crowded with other customers) and it's well kept. read more

1 Star for terrible customer service. I've never walked into a store where you pass two employees at the door, so engrossed in a conversation (not with a customer, might I add) that they don't acknowledge the patrons who enter, and employees on the floor who will blatantly watch you as you walk by and will say nothing at all. No greeting, no assistance. Nothing And if you do choose to buy something, you'll be lucky if you're not standing at the register waiting for a while because theres suddenly no one around. I wouldn't be so concerned with these examples if they were part of an isolated incident. But they weren't. The service has been like this for the past couple times I have been in the shop. I'd suggest Westfield North County's Sun Diego instead. Better service, better selection. read more

My mom had a bad experience while she was shopping here on 2/23/19. As she was paying for her things, she asked the cashier, Nicole, if there were any gift boxes or tissue paper she could have. Sun Diego is pretty chill. They have a lot of good brands before a lot of other skate shops. The gear here is kind of expensive but the employees are super chill and they help you out when you need it. I went here to look at sunglasses and one of the managers, Steve, came to help me out. I was looking for a particular model which they unfortunately did not carry at the moment but he recommended to me very similar styles that I really liked and other different styles that he thought would work well with my face. I have a hard time finding sunglasses that fit right so it was great to have his guidance and knowledge, showing me what he thought would work. I ended up liking just about every one he suggested and now the only problem I have is which one to get. Definitely a good problem and I'm excited to have so many options to choose from. Sun Diego isn't half bad. The store is a little small inside but they actually have a pretty decent selection inside. I was looking for a black zip up hoodie which they had a few different ones. The problem is two of the three choices were $62.00 for a thin hoodie, not exactly a bargain. However the third one was much cheaper so at least there was some selection. The store was nice and clean inside as well. Nobody approached me while I was looking but it was pretty busy inside and that's actually ok. The guy at the register was helpful and did a good job, overall I'd say I'm a fan. read more

Really surprised with the selection of brands here. This store is right up our alley. They have the surf/skate brands and then all the Patagonia type brands. Great shoe/sandal selection, watches, sun glasses, skate boards, backpacks, pretty much anything you need they will have as far as these categories go. My husband and will definitely be regular shoppers here! read more
