If you live in Indiana, you've heard of Sun King. If you live out of state, there's still a good chance that you've heard of it - it's Indiana's second biggest local brewery! They have tasting rooms located around the city and the main brewery (this one) located downtown. There's an outdoor patio and an indoor seating area as well. Favorite beers include: - Mexicali Lager - Indians Lager (slightly stronger) - Cream Ale - (and the Osiris is one of their classic, best-sellers too) The staff are always friendly and will let you try a beer before you commit. Sun King also hosts events and there seems to always be something fun happening. There's now a tasty food stand inside as well: Oca. Owned by Goose the Market/Smoking Goose, they serve amazing charcuterie boards, cones of quality meat, pizzas, soft pretzels as big as your head, and more. read more

Ever have nachos and get super annoyed that the chips are all piled up in a deep bowl and it's impossible to get the right ratio of chips to cheese to toppings?! Well apparently Sun King and I understand one another on this important issue because they serve the most AMAZING chorizo nachos that come on a giant cookie sheet and it makes my queso loving heart so happy...as do all of the Sun King beers that they have on tap. Let me repeat...it's nachos on a cookie sheet people! Okay...maybe you also want to know about the beer. It's one of the more well known local breweries and I always enjoy trying out their seasonal sours while I'm there. I attended a private meeting in Sun King's meeting room last night. I usually drink vodka, but the selection was limited for this meeting. I rarely drink beer, but they offered an Orange Vanilla Beer, so I ordered that from the friendly bartender. I enjoyed the beer's flavor like nothing I had ever tasted before. On the way back to Chicago, my friend was kind enough to make a pit-stop for me in Indy so I could try Sun King Brewing.I had wanted to try the brewery for awhile so am glad I finally got in there. They have quite a bit on tap, tons of board games, a small bottleshop of their beers and a really well sized taproom with seats and even outdoor seating for the warmer days. Their taproom pretty much has it all. I had a couple of flights so was able to try everything on tap. The guys working were so nice, they even hooked up a couple extra samples for me. My favorite of the stop off was the Velour Soccer Mom a fruity sour that packed a punch in flavor despite only being 5.5%. Second favorite was the Bitter Druid ESB which is a 5.7% Americanized Extra Special Bitter, had a really interesting flavor to it. Overall the beers mostly hovered around 3 bottlecaps on Untappd with those two standouts. So glad I finally got to pop into Sun King and enjoyed my time there. One of my favorite places in downtown Indy. The beers are incredible and this is the perfect casual place to meet people after work. I got the Orange Vanilla Sunlight cream ale, which is hands down my favorite. There are also new summer slushees available I'm looking forward to trying! Stopped in to catch up with some friends. We were seated indoors pretty quickly and had an amazing server. Inside, there are quite a few tables perfect for large groups and even more for smaller groups. The noise is average - perfect for listening to stories. Decent selection of beers! The facility is fun too & allows children in a specific area. They also have slushees and other drinks if you don't like beer. We went midday on a Friday during thanksgiving weekend with my family and it wasn't too packed. We were able to grab a table for 10+ of us and enjoy ourselves. I can never fault a single beer they come out with currently loving the sunlight orange and vanilla They have multiple locations around Indy and a huge spot up in Carmel which also serves their own liquor. The downtown location has been a great spot to take our friends and family when visiting town on multiple occasions and has had great indoor area with food and board games and a outdoor area for when the weathers nice!! read more

SKB is still going strong after all these years. Even after all the expansion and opening of satellite locations, the original retains some of that microbrewery feel. If course some things have changed : there's a deli (Smoking Goose) inside where you can get food, there are a lot more beers on tap (about 30 instead of just 4 when they opened), there's a nice outdoor deck, etc. read more

We stopped in after a visit to Easley Winery, just across the street. Very convenient! As noted in my review of the winery, Sun King is an easy, less-than-one-mile walk from Monument Circle downtown. Conveniently though, they have a large parking lot available should you feel like driving there. We have visited several breweries, so we didn't feel the need for a tour. We were just interested in a tasting and hanging out for a while. When we entered, we were carded at the door and instructed that we could order glasses or flights at the bar and pay there. I like trying new things and continuing to develop my taste for beer, so I opted for a flight. I was pleased to see a couple sours on tap. They weren't the best sours I've ever had, but I am always happy to see a broader range of different beer styles at breweries! The Oktoberfest was pretty great. Aside from that, the space is nice. Big and bright, picnic tables, and board games to play! There is also a nice patio for beer drinking, al fresco. If you like beer and trying new and local things, I highly recommend a visit to Sun King! Set a while, play a game. Enjoy yourself! read more

This place is awesome! We were greeted right when we walked in the door. They have an outdoor patio that allows dogs (Extra bonus points for that), HUGE inside with a large variety of beer and even better sangria! (Not a beer drinker myself so it's nice to have options) We sat at the bar and every staff member was very knowledgeable and helpful when selecting flights. They had games available to play and tons of swag for sale. They also had food but we didn't eat anything so I can't speak to that. Attended Sunking Brewery for a special event with Triumph motorcycles. My partner is a huge fan and wanted me to tag along. It was completely full, but there were great selection of beers and motorcycles! I had never attended a show like this, but I was fun. I was able to learn more and mount some of the motorcycles. The event included a free drink, which was great! I had a sour, which was delicious! The space is large enough for big groups. The re are picnic tables for people to sit and drink. There is outdoor seating during warm days. There is free parking. I love their collaboration with Goose the Market. I am able to purchase sandwiches and other meats. The tours of the facility was not open due to the event but we got s glimpse of the space with the exhibit we saw. The staff was super nice. I am definitely coming back again. read more

Sunking Brewery is such a wonderful addition to the Indianapolis landscape. Its one of if not the largest brewery in the city. The selection is amazing. There are so many choices available that unless you truly do not like beer, its almost impossible not to find one that you would like. The service is friendly and the location is large enough for a group of friends yet cozy enough to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink or two after work. While sipping on the wonderful concoctions, visitors can also browse the history of the brewery through pictures. You are surround by the brewery itself and it is magnificent. Just east of downtown is an industrial part of town where Sun King Brewery lives. If you like a chill environment, go! Here's why: 1) Atmosphere: It's in a HUGE space with a bar, plenty of seating, and a deli. Since children aren't legally allowed near a bar in Indiana, there's a roped off area for families. 2) Beer: They have a HUGE list and not just of beer. They had several sour ales they brew themselves. I tried every single one and loved it. If you're not into beer, I recommend trying the sour ales. 3) Events: They often host events from live music to pie eating contests. 4) Service: Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Best local beer, and yes we can argue about it, but it's my fave craft beer. You can find it at most local haunts in the city and just about any concert or festival that you visit. If you are a north check out the tasting room in fishers. Don't forget about the mothership off of college ave. I've been several times for some beer, but today I went for a yoga class benefiting the peace center. We had a great teacher! She was a current intern at the center that this was one of their fundraisers, I really enjoyed the class and it was the perfect mix, not too easy and not too hard. A classic benefit of most yoga at the brewery are a nice pint after the class, sunking has the standard usual suspects, but if you go downtown they have some interesting fun flavors that you don't get out on the street. I decided the try the flannel mist! It's a delicious quadruple Belgium ale and you can't go wrong with it. A new feature is the smoking goose station that's within the brewery, I was able to purchase a tasty cheese and crackers tray. Love this place! I'm a regular read more
