Overall, staying at Sun Palace was a good experience. It has a relaxed atmosphere and the staff is eager to help guests. The beach, pools, food, drinks, and service were great. We had booked a standard (the cheapest) room. When we checked in, we inquired about upgrading to an ocean view room and were told it would be an extra $120 USD for our 5 night stay. They graciously offered to show us the room we had booked and the room we could upgrade to. The standard room that we had booked was awful. It was run down and much older looking than the one pictured on the Sun Palace website for the lowest price. The upgrade room was much, much better. The private balcony didn't have the tall divider between it and the next balcony and it was just big enough for two small chairs and an end table but the view was beautiful. We took the upgrade as we would've been hugely disappointed to spend our honeymoon in the suite we had booked. As another bonus, we were able to check into the room about 10:00 AM. The only other thing I would think might be a problem for some couples, especially those on their honeymoon, is that the toilet is not very private. The little room the toilet is in has a glass door that doesn't quite close. It was the same at Playacar Palace so we were expecting it, but it's a bit of a damper on an otherwise wonderfully romantic resort. read more

We were able to get there at around 10am for breakfast as we were staying at the Moon Palace and rented a car to get us around to playa de Carmen and Cozumel . This was my second time at the Sun Palace and it keeps getting better. First this is the cleanest place on earth. When we arrived we got a warm towel and a welcome drink. Our room was not ready, so we went to the pool and grabbed a drink. After lunch and a little time at the pool we went back and our room was ready #808. Room Credits: So we had $1500 in room credits, Make sure to sign up for the chefs dinner. Chef Edgar does a presentation of each course and each is paired with wine. We also did the romantic dinner on the beach. The food was pretty good, but the nothing like dinner on the beach. We used our limit at the spa, and that was it. Spa: We did a couples hot stone massage, a couples body wrap and our members 25 back massage. Everything was amazing, make sure to go early to use the steam room and sauna. Food: Palace seems to have improved the quality of the beef and fish. I didn't like to eat the steak here before, but the quality is much better. It seemed like the breakfast and lunch buffet didn't change as much as I remember. The desserts have gotten better, they seem to be sweeter than our first trip. Make sure to try the ice cream truly fantastic. We also went to visit the Beach Palace and Isla Mujeres Palace. The water at Sun was rough, but if you walk 5 minutes towards Club Med the water is always calm. Some of the staff stood out, Jose in the lobby bar, Luis and ignacio at the pool bar, Maria on the beach, Ramon in the Alamo, Joel the bellman, Alejandro and Samara on the entertainment team. Everyone is amazing, the staff can't be matched. Things that could be improved: The beds, the bottom of the pool chews up your feet, and a few more umbrellas are needed on the beach. If you like being treated like royalty, stay here! The level of service amazed me, a long time traveller. For example, day 1 I stopped by Sweet & Coffee, their espresso/ice cream/crepe/candy counter. Ricardo, the barista, asked my name and then made an awesome caramel coffee drink. Next day Brenda and Cristibol greeted me by name. Same for Angelo and Brandon later on. How the heck do they do that? And they remembered the special drink Ricardo invented for me. I was floored. The rooms are plush and sophisticated. In room double jacuzzi right near the sliding glass door so you could watch the waves while soaking. The nightly shows were good entertainment for an hour. The best was the aqua circus (think Cirque du Soleil over a swimming pool) which we watched from our balcony. The pool tables in The Bar need more lighting, as do the elevators. The singer/guitarist in the bar one night was less than stellar. Not quite up to par. they have tons of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options clearly labeled at each restaurant. Even hand made gluten free crust at the poolside pizzeria. I would have liked to see pizza at the Italian restaurant. The tomato soup there was delish. The ossobucco was bland, the only uninspired dish we encountered. Fuego steakhouse was treat for the eyes and tongue. The buffet becomes a Mexican restaurant each night. REAL Mexican food, not burritos and nacho cheese sauce. Let the servers guide you if the appetizers look foreign. You'll be glad you did. The beach is great here, watch out for annual algae/seaweed bloom in summer. The spa is beautiful, meticulously clean, and has the full circuit of amenities including sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cold as heck plunge pool. Windam orchestrates an attentive and professional staff at the spa. Sun Palace is on the small side, compared to a mega resort like Moon Palace. But it was definitely more intimate, and because of the smaller size, the staff get to know you and learn your likes. Convenient to the airport. All adult all inclusive. And they mean ALL inclusive. As in includes some spa services and tours. Really. Get yourself there and ask for a Ricardo special coffee. read more

Just came back from our second visit there and enjoyed it as much as the first. Service still TOP notch. Only wish someone hadn't called us our first morning there at 8:30am to tell us we've not used any of our credits yet, and to do so in the lobby. We then got a call 20 minutes later from a Miguel letting us know they are there for us 5-6 everyday for request and complaints. I would better understand what I had already paid for so that I couldn't be up sold on something that I had already paid for. Dear Mr. Winkler, I looked for an email address for you at Palace Resorts and found none, but obviously found you here. We recently stayed at your resort for a week with a group of 12. I had some experiences that I wanted to give you an opportunity to reply to prior to writing a trip advisor review. The Positive: 1. Your wait staff are very well trained and it shows. It didn't matter the meal or the venue they were all professional and courteous. 2. Housekeeping staff, the same. Rooms were immaculate. 3. Food was inconsistent, some meals were great (Italian Venue) and others were awful (Concierge dinner). The Negative: 1. My major complaint's lie around your front of the resort, reception, guest services and event planning. A. Upon arrival were were greeted appropriately offered something to drink, all perfect. When we were checking in with Karime she informed us that the VIP package and room that we thought we purchased was not what we were getting. She told us the rooms were smaller and the services were not included. Not having stayed with you before we knew no better. We asked to see the rooms, we were taken to the 8th floor, then the 3rd. The difference was apparent, except that we had already been booked on the 3rd floor by our trip organizer. We were told that for 225.00 dollars extra we could be on the 3rd floor with the larger room. After the fact we realized that the room upsale was literally for turn down service, aromatherapy (which you have to call for, otherwise you don't get it), and for different pillows. The water pillows by the way when ordered, you were out of stock, and we received something else. This is truly a bait and switch tactic and is not ever what I want to contend with when staying at a hotel. I always expect the staff to be forthright with the facts and then I can make an informed decision. This was anything but that. B. We booked different events and at different times changed our minds and added or cancelled events. We ended up canceling three different events, a boat ride, and Isle Mujeres and the Dolphin event. When turning in the booking tickets, no receipt was ever given. You hope that it is done correctly without any confirmation. The Dolphin event was not cancelled effectively, our points were deducted and the tax charged. I tried the first floor and the fifth floor six different times. Three times I spoke to someone only to be told they were checking on it and would get back to me, and three times there was a line of people ahead of me. This started on Thursday and didn't get somewhat resolved until 9:38am two minutes before our scheduled departure at 9:40am. I was told the ticked was not turned in, except that it was together with the other event that did get cancelled. I was given a refund of the tax but no credit of points which I had intended to use on buying two boxes of cigars and a gift pack of tequila. Why it takes three days to take care of anything makes little or no sense. C. Events and cancellations can only be taken care on the fifth floor or the one person on the first floor. This is at the same time three other people sit at guest services adjacent and cannot help you, it looks ridiculous at best. D. We booked an event, Aquatwister and transfers to and from the hotel plagued us throughout the visit. The coach sat outside waiting for us when the guys out front had no idea. We ended up walking over to the large coach and spoke with the driver and he confirmed that he was there for us. On the morning of our departure we were told to arrive at 9:30am for a 9:40am departure. The rest of our group was booked at the same time and departed while my wife and I stood there waiting. We asked four to five times, finally at 10am we went back inside to check on our ride. Finally the van arrived at 10-10:05am. This was two of the three transfers arranged during our trip, a 33% success rate. 2. During our stay we ordered room service four times with two out of the four food was forgotten off the order. This being a 50% success rate. I typically do not comment on stays, understanding that nothing in life goes perfectly. My husband and I came here for our Honeymoon in May. The lobby had a very strong scent in it that bothered me. It was a pretty easy check-in. But before we went to the room they wanted us to book our entire trip out. We are not planning people. We like to lay out and play our day by ear. We came in on a Saturday and they wanted us to start booking things Sunday. I said no, we wanted to relax our first day. We ended up scheduling 3 things, Dolphin swimming, Honeymoon Dinner and massages. They told us if we scheduled a tour to another hotel we could earn more credits. So we scheduled that for Monday. Monday came around, we decided we didnt know when we would be coming back to Cancun and not interest in buying anything and really just wanted to lay out by the pool and relax. I called Monday morning letting them know we no longer wanted to do the trip. I was then asked "Why". I simply responded "because I dont want to". Seriously? The restaurants were ok and the pool side food was ok as well. The drinks were delicious, but depending on the bartender you would get different sizes cups which was annoying. The Steak restaurant and the Italian places were my favorites. I was very excited for some bomb mexican food but that wasnt the case at the mexican restaurant. And the nachos are served with Cheese Sauce?? If you plan to go to a show after dinner make sure you go to dinner 2 hours before. For some reason the food takes forever and missed 2 shows because of it, one of them was the fire on the beach that I was really excited for. The bar at night was fun. My husband and I would go sit in there, listen to music and play 4 corners. We had a corner room with 2 balconies which was nice. We would leave the do not clean light on everyday, yet everyday we came back it was cleaned, which is fine but then I felt I needed to tip, since somehow we always managed to run into them as they were cleaning. I was very excited for the whirpool in the room, but the water was only extremely hot, even if we only had the cold water on and wasnt pouring out that well. So we would wait forever for it to fill, then wait forever to cool off. We even put ice in it at one point. They did leave us little trinkets throughout our stay which was nice. Champagne and chocolates and kissing swans made out of towels on our bed. We did room service, the food was just ok. Nothing amazing but was nice when we didnt want to get up and grab breakfast or a late night craving. We went to the buffet in the morning and I asked for an Iced Coffee, the waiter wasnt sure what I was talking about, but when I went to get food and came back there was one on the table which was very nice. The pools are nice, beautiful views, we mostly did the one with the music and activities. It was pretty cold tho, the ocean was warmer and when I got home I noticed my white bathing suit was now yellow. Wasnt too happy about that. Its not that big and people go very early to save seats. I went one morning at 745 and there were 4 seats left. I got some smart ass response from a guy for saving seats, not my fault. I learned, just how it is. The jacuzzis are colder then the pool. Frustrating since once that sun sets and the wind starts up it gets chilly The massages were nice and the spa was very relaxing. We used our credits which you still have to pay taxes. So we spent time in the jacuzzi at the spa for an hour then had our couples massage for about $40. Which is a pretty good deal. The staff was all very friendly and the fact this was adults only was a bonus. It was nice, but I may try a different hotel if I get out there again. read more

Amazing. Quiet. Elegant. I'm still in the vacation glow mode, even after a long travel day back home yesterday. With the overwhelming number of choices in Cancun,we chose Sun Palace. Easily the best decision, and I knew it within an hour of walking through the front doors to check-in. I won't go through the whole list of "why" because I'd be writing for quite a while. A few quick ones... -the rooms are clean, modern, and very inviting. -we were on the 4th floor, concierge level. -room service food was very tasty. We all know that's not always the case. -our view off the balcony was spectacular. We lost a full day of sun thanks to tropical storm Franklin... But incredible to watch the storm blow through while cocktailing nonetheless! -the staff was friendly, attentive, and never in your space. -the restaurants were good, not excellent in my opinion, except the Asian place by the pool. Very good! We all experience food differently, so take it with a grain of salt. -not once did it feel like a party resort atmosphere, which is exactly what we were looking for. -watching those sea turtles crawl up the beach at night is amazing. -the pool service as well as the beach service was exceptional. These folks hustle in the hot summer sun to cater your every request. We tip for everything, and why wouldn't you? The work their asses of, so don't be cheap with a few bucks here and there. I'm sure I can keep going, but want to stop now and continue in my post Yucatan Sun Palace buzz. Cheers to the staff and management there-will return for sure. My husband and I have been coming here for several years. I still enjoy the particular all-inclusive except they have been lacking lately. This last visit we could not use our 1500 points towards a room upgrade, instead of being greeted with a tropical beverage or champagne, we were offered a selection of beers. Also, the food portions at the restaurants seem to be getting smaller, some of the items in the room smelled of mildew and we kept being pestered to attend a "celebration where they were obviously trying to get us to purchase a time share. I still love the service and the food quality is great. I hope they continue to offer these and stop taking away what we loved about this spot. read more

I cannot say enough about the everyday staff at this hotel. They would do whatever was requested, and happily. If not for the staff, I would have given the hotel only 3 stars. The room was large and a great view. Alcohol was top shelf as promised. Rooms were cleaned, and well stocked. I found the food plentiful, but not as good as expected. The biggest disappointment was the cleanliness and size of the of the beach. When sitting on the beach, you felt very crowded. Putting aside the seaweed, there were bottle caps, and other litter on the shoreline constantly. there was an empty tube of toothpaste for three days. I believe two people, and hour every AM could take care of this problem, it really lowered the quality of the experience. However, thanks to all the staff, especially Abigail and Venessa. read more

We just got back from visiting Sun Palace. It is a very clean and nice resort. The staff were very welcoming,nice and tentative. Me and my boyfriend booked this resort due to it being an adults only resort. We are in our early 30's and we're hoping to see some people our age at the resort but we noticed it was mostly a lot more of older couples. It is very laid back here. We were gone most of the days visiting Beach Palace and Moon Palace. Overall it is a very beautiful resort. If you are in your late 20's or 30's and looking to socialize with a lot of people your age I would recommend going to Beach Palace or Moon Palace. If you just want to be VERY low key then I would say stay at the Sun Palace. read more

I have already written over a dozen emails to Palace Resorts but like usual, no one ever responds. i am a Palce Elite member and they have the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in any hotel chain. My reservation was at Sun Palace from 04-03-17 thru 04-10-17. It was one of the worst vacations that my wife and I have ever had. I believe that Sun Palace has gone down hill substantially and I don't know if I will ever stay there again. The people and the staff are great but the food was below average, my room never had the shampoo and conditioner restocked and we never had hot water in the room even after asking to get it fixed and all this was on the "special" floor. I brought guest along with me and I was embarrassed especially in regards to the food. It was not this way when we stayed there 2 years ago. In fact, we ended up cutting the trip short by 3 days and spent $600.00USD to fly back home early. That's how unsatisfied we were with the hotel. I pay WAY TOO MUCH money for an average to below average hotel. read more

Honestly I would like to rate this a 3.5 star. It was my first time staying at an all inclusive resort. I don't think I would do it again. Personally I prefer somewhere a little more upbeat. Perfect for someone who is wanting peace and quiet the entire time. The customer service is amazing. We were greeted with wash clothes to freshen up and lemonade with a flower as soon as we arrived. All workers we're prompt and friendly. Everyone's always smiling and eager to help. The entertainment staff was a lot of fun and did a good job at initiating pool activities such as volleyball, yoga, bingo and Pilates. The hotel itself is very clean. The only disappointing thing was the food. Large variety of food but it lacked flavor and freshness. Most things seemed pre made and looked like they were left over from the previous day. A lot of things that you think would be fresh, we're not like the guacamole. It tasted like it was out of a tube or something. The dessert presentation was a 10 star but the desserts lacked flavor as well. The only decent restaurant was the Italian restaurant. I would recommend ordering the shrimp or chicken Alfredo. The egg plant was tasty as well. The drinks everywhere were delicious but low alcohol content. The resort credits aren't really worth using as you get charged 16% tax on everything. Most options restrict the use of resort credit and transportation is not included with all packages. Don't forget sunscreen unless you want to pay 3x more for it at the gift shop. Overall I would rate the customer service- 5 star, cleanliness- 5 star, food-3 star, drinks-4 star, beach-5 star, pool- 5 star, room-5 star. read more

My wife and I have stayed at over 7 different resorts in Cancun over the past 10yrs. We decided to try Sun Palace after reading the wonderful reviews. We spent $5000 to stay there for one week; and must say the entire experience was quite poor. After checking in, we were given a room which looked nothing like what was advertised, both sinks were loose, and the gap between the actual faucet and vesel sink was less than two inches (now imagine trying to wash your hands! Secondly we noticed that the sheets and bedding were damp?! (That was the case every day, guess they dont dry there sheets completely). Moving on to the liqour dispenser in the room, which was located literally on the ground, now imagine having to actually get on your knees with a glass in your hand to "pump a drink" from the dispenser into your glass (basically an impractical and ridiculous setup, my guess is to keep you from actually using the in room liqour). Room service, or in the case of this resort it should be called "adding to yoir frustration services!", we ordered breakfast for the following morning thw first night we were there (door hanging menu), which also had times youd like the food delivered. We check 8:30am; next morning we waited till 10am, no breakfast was delivered...so we went down to the buffet. We got a message in our room at 11am, "we tried to deliver your breakfast, why were you not in your room?!!" We ordered during lunch and dinner 3 more times, twice it wasnt delivered at all, amd once it was delivered (we ordered two simple items, hamburger, and quesadilla), they delivered two pizzas? Moving on to the food, there was fpur options: buffet for breakfast and lunch (hit and miss, most of the lunch menu was recycled food from the dinner menus from the other resturaunts the night before. The mexican restaurant for dinner is just plain awful, the Italian restaurant for dinner serves undercooked fish, and overcooked pasta (again, inedible). The only food we could agree was actually good was the steaks the serve in the evening at their steakhouse (in the hopes of not sounding too first worldly, eating steak every night is not all that pleasant). Finally lets talk about managment, there is a person named Pablo Winkler who wears a Manager nametag, who walked to our table every morning during breakfast and ask us how everything was in the entire Resort. Every morning we would bring up the issues and he would just shake his head and say that he would do something about it. After the 4th day my wife and I we're completely Fed Up and told him " why do you keep bothering us during our meal and asking what we need and what the issues are if you plan to do nothing," at which time he quietly about his head and walked away. My wife was so frustrated at this point that she went up to the front desk and asked for a different room due to the problems I already stated earlier and stated we would ask for a refund and leave the property immediately if nothing was done. They proceeded to give us a different room which was slightly bigger than the first, I kept telling us you should be happy we are not charging you for this room. This was insult to injury as the $5,000 we had paid was already too much for this entire Resort, instead of apologizing they were verbally abusing. This larger room ended up making both my wife and I sick, due to the black mold that was visibly present on the walls and in and around the air conditioning vents. So we spent four days breathing in toxic black mold. My suggestion for anyone considering this Resort is, please save your hard-earned money and your precious time and stay somewhere else. During our trip we also met five different couples four of which were members of this Resort and have stated to us that prior to this visit the resort was pretty good. However during this particular stay everyone was Fed Up with the quality of the rooms, poor service, and awful food. I wish there was some way I could bring back time, as my wife and I work very very hard and are barely able to take time off every two years to go on vacation for one week. This Resort and its poor management both took our hard earned money, and more importantly our precious time which we shall never get back. Let me start by saying that we are palace members. We love palace and have always had great service in the past. This recent vacation was a "free week" for us. We had to ask for everything. Our room was not restocked with beverages. We do not drink alcohol but had to ask to have our water replenished every day. Our room (708) was noisy...commonly hearing noises of clashing dishes. The "hot tub" in the room was barely warm. Service by the "quiet pool" was absent for 3/7 days. Almost like they were very understaffed. The restaurant staff was excellent as was the front desk staff. I don't know if this is the type of service one can expect if they are not a VIP member AND if one is using a "free week". We love the "SUN" and will surely be back...hopefully service and accommodations will be better next time. read more

We were a bit hesitant to vacation in Mexico this year during the pandemic so we investigated the measures taken by Palace Resorts to see what was being done to assure guest safety. It's one thing to read about their Purely Palace program, but another to experience it. I wish others in the hospitality industry were as well run. From top to bottom Palace has set the standard for how to approach the challenges of retaining their high standards of luxury while assuring guest safety. We never once saw an employee not wearing a mask. Restaurant seating was well spaced and hostesses greeted each guest with hand sanitizer rather than merely providing a dispenser. Rooms were sanitized each day with attention to detail. Elevator occupancy was limited to 2 persons and areas in front of the elevators were marked for spacing. Each guest was interviewed upon arrival and their temperature was checked. It's survival of the fittest in the hospitality industry and the management of Palace Resorts is to be commended. We look forward to continuing our future vacations at Palace Resorts knowing they can be trusted to implement and enforce policies that keep us happy and safe. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Sun Palace for a week in December/2016. The Sun Palace Cancun is of our favorite hotel resorts that we stayed at in Mexico. This small 5 star couples-only resort has 252 rooms, 4 restaurants and 3 bars. Also included is turndown service, liquor dispenser, mini bar, smart tv, CHI bath amenities, bathrobes and slippers, digital safe, whirlpool tub, 24-hour room service and so much more! Everything is top-notch -and even the weather was great the week that we stayed! Starting with meeting Maria Teresa at check-in, everyone at the Sun Palace worked very hard to make our stay fun, happy, and restful. Employees are respectful and trained well - friendly with an aim to please. Our all inclusive trip package actually included all tips, but we just had to tip extra anyway. In advance, my wife and I discussed and were determined not to do the Palace presentation. -But changed our mind when Maria Teresa told us that there is no pressure and that it only takes 90 minutes. Actually the presentation was excellent and we would have bought-in if our personal circumstances were different (health of our parents) The presentation was at Moon Palace, and the person who gave us the tour was outstanding! Karen B. was understanding of our situation - super friendly and the tour was actually fun! She compliments Palace resorts so much! During the tour she expressed her love of nature and animals, we have that in common. We seriously may consider buying-in to Palace resorts in the future when our circumstances change. Our waterfront room was such a delight! Max cared for our room very promptly and he too is a compliment to Palace resorts. We enjoyed all of the restuarants and food. Sushi at the Thai restuarant (Oriental Lounge) and the chef (Filepe) even prepared something for us at our request that was not on the menu. Fine dining - and service too. We just had to meet and tip Filepe - Robertino and Estrella (who served our food) too! Another favorite restuarant was the Steak House. I really enjoyed the Sirloin Chateau - just wow! I am really particular about how my steaks are prepared, and this was one of my best steaks ever! Liked it better than the NY Strip! Carlos was our server we enjoyed his great personality and service! When we return, we will be happy to see him again. My wife, Barb loved the fish and grilled shrimp. At the Italian restuarant, our server Max was just great! Food there too is top-notch. One thing that we like about all of the Sun Palace Restuarants, is that you do NOT need to make a reservation, and each time we were seated without a wait. We enjoyed the dolphins, and toured Isla Mujeres - we rented a golf cart there, only cost our $40 for the afternoon. We highly recommend the couples massage... Resort credit covered most - we just had to pay tax. The beach and waves are so relaxing! Waves were quite high most of our stay, but a lifeguard was on duty for safety. Pools and pool volleyball were awesomely fun. The Sun Palace is at the south end of the hotel zone, so if you wanted to go mall shopping, you have to take a taxi or public bus ($1/person) -very reasonable, just make sure that you let the bus driver know where you are going before you get on - to be sure you are taking the right bus. So, the only thing that we can think of that could be improved on is the bread. (we notice this throughout most of Mexico) We were trying to watch carbs anyway, so this actually helped us. Sun Palace had a nice variety, but the freshness is not what we are used too. Back home in Ohio, most of the restuarants we visit bake the bread onsite - and serve the same day. It was obvious to us that the bread is probably prepared elsewhere and brought in. Not sure tho, it may just be because of the hot/warm weather. Best for the value. Service was amazing! They are always cheerful and helpful with their service. The building is very clean and modern. Its very relaxing yet entertaining here. Love their daily entertainment schedule! The food is pretty good, except the dessert is funky. The maid service is phenomenal! After our honeymoon dinner we came back to rose petals on Jacuzzi and bed. No time share pressure like everyone said. Everyone is very inviting, friendly, and cheerful. The worst part about our trip was we were only there 4 nights. We didn't adventure out much from the resort. We went to the pool each day and spent one of those days on the beach chairs. The atmosphere at the pool is awesome. The drinks and food are great, we met some amazing people, and played a lot of pool volleyball. The Italian was the best dinner spot, we went two of the four nights. I got the Chicken Parm and almost asked for a second order both nights. But we went back to the room and ordered room service. The staff at Sun Palace was great. They had great energy, were willing to help with anything, and gave great suggestions. Just got back. Went to Sun Palace for 20th anniversary. First time to Cancun. Sun Palace staff is unbelievable in the way they treat their guests. The guys out on the beach setting up beach chairs are some of the hardest working men I have ever seen. Everyone we came in contact with almost made you uncomfortable they were so nice, friendly, and accomidating. They got one star taken away for the credit, push to go to sister property people that don't like to hear the word "no" I am not a foody, but the food was from good at the buffets, which is tough to do, all the way to excellent at the Italian restaraunt and the concierge beach dinner. This place is an adult only, couples only resort. In our time there I saw NO ONE out of control. No frat boy crap, everyone was there to enjoy some relaxation. On the whole, I enjoyed my trip to Sun Palace. Getting to the "vacation" point of the trip, however, was a bit rough and I grew weary of the all-inclusive experience over the course of the week. We had a basic room in the "Concierge Level" package. The room was modern and clean with an excellent view of the ocean and pools below. The Sun Palace appeared to be a step above the Moon Palace (also in Cancun), which we visited for dinner one night. The hotel is located a short fifteen minute trip from the airport, which is great. But checking in is a drag. First, we were taken upstairs to the Concierge Level to check in. This was supposed to be a "fast" option, but it wound up taking way longer than it would to check into any other hotel. Then, once we were finally checked in, we were encouraged to go down to the main lobby to meet with a representative about using our resort credits. In a rookie mistake, we followed suit and got sucked into what basically amounted to a fifteen minute sales pitch. While we received a little bit of info about how to use the credits, we were told we would have to go back upstairs (!) to the fifth floor to book things. The main purpose of our visit with the representative downstairs was to give us a hard sell on a timeshare-like resort club presentation the next day. I shot that down fast, but the representative persisted in making her pitch! I know that the staff gets a commission on recruiting people for these events, but the whole process struck me as rude and counterproductive. Suffice it to say, it put me in a bad mood for an hour or so. Once we got past those hurdles, we were finally able to enjoy our room and the resort. I don't think I'm a fan of the all-inclusive, but if you are, you will probably enjoy this resort. On the whole, the food was good. Breakfast and dinner are by far the best; lunch, for the most part, is forgetabble. Because we booked at the Concierge Level and were on our honeymoon, we received two special dinners. The first was a private four-course candlelit dinner on the beach. It was a really cool experience and our waiter, Arturo, deserves a lot of credit for his excellent service. The second dinner was a four-course dinner on the patio outside of La Trattoria, the Italian restaurant. This one was good too, but couldn't compare with the first. Elsewhere, the buffet at "The Steak" was kind of a dissapointment. El Alamo and La Trattoria were way better. Drinks are easily accessible and abundant. In addition to the free mini bar and resort drinks, we received a complimentary bottle of champagne and a bottle of red wine as part of different promotions. We wound up packing the champagne in our suitcase and lugging it home because it was simply too much for a five day trip. Be warned: the potency of the mixed drinks varies wildly throughout the course of the day. While most of our frozen drinks during the way were watered-down (presumably to prevent dehydration), at night, the bartenders seemed to start making them really heavy. I had to step away from a margarita at dinner one night because it appeared to be roughly 1/2 tequila. Yikes! I also offer a "buyer beware" with Sun Palace's resort credit system. The hotel charges a 16% tax and service fee on all goods/services. So, if you spend $100, you pay $16 in tax/fees. While some items are fairly priced or a good value, others simply aren't. Massages and most of the spa services, appeared to be fairly priced in my opinion. I believe we paid about $20 a person in taxes for an hour long massage. The tax on a bottle of moscato worked out to $7, which was also a deal. But other things are clearly overpriced. The tequila and cigar packages which they bill as $100 value aren't worth much more than the $16 you'll pay in taxes. Some of the tour packages also feel like a rip. We had a great time at Isla Mujeres, but I really wonder where some of the money went. The tour was billed as costing about $100 per person. That was supposed to include transportation, a bilingual guide, and a buffet. We wanted to go to explore the island's small downtown area and visit Playa Norte, which was supposed to be far less touristy. We were able to make it happen, but it was not quite what we were expecting. On the day of our trip, we were picked up by a hotel guide and transported to the ferry by a hotel representative. Once we got there, however, we were placed in the hands of the ferry operators, the tourist trap Dolphin Discovery. This was not the small personal tour we had envisioned. Thankfully, we were quickly able to get away from that mess and take a taxi downtown for $10 USD (fare back was $8). We had a great time and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to go off the beaten path. read more

So my boyfriend and I stayed there for four nights, Saturday-Wednesday. A lot of great and not-so-great things about the hotel. We had the concierge level room. Not sure it was worth it.... The great: 1- the beach is amazing. Just as nice as Tulum and Playa Paraiso. 2- the housekeeping. Super clean room, nightly turndown service with delicious petit-fours. 3- 24 hr room service w/ concierge level if that is your thing. 4- Javier at the front desk. He was AWESOME. 5- always had a chair with an umbrella at the beach 6- the spa. Lourdes was amazing. Get your massage from her! 7- the bell staff was awesome too. The OK: 1- pools: noisy at both pools even though one is "quiet". The loud activity pool had music for young 20-somethings. A little to hard rock hotel like but it is the loud pool so be prepared. Not so ok about the pool is the nasty sludge of oils from lotions by 3pm at the pool. Definitely needs a better filtration system. 2- the building. It is in need of a paint job. I Know being by the ocean that salt can eat away at the paint but it was peeling all over the building. The inside was clean. 3- they stop serving cocktails at the beach and pool around 5. It is an adult only resort and you stop at 5? C'mon! 4- the Italian restaurant that you have to dress up for if you are a guy. Just ok, not great. The Not good and UGLY: 1 - Daniel Enrique... Definitely the ugly.... So you discuss your resort credit with the planners and then they put you with someone else to do your reservations for your tours, hence my interaction with Daniel Enrique. He is a mean-spirited person. I didn't understand something he said and when he had to repeat himself, he stuck his head out with attitude and repeated himself in a scolding tone. Jerk. Make your reservations with someone else as they have several staff to help you. Started our vacation with having to talk to this jerk. When he gave the attitude I got up and walked away and made our reservations with the 5th floor concierge instead. 2- the price of sunscreen at the resort is $25. There is a little mini-mart across the street that we didn't know about until after but definitely suggest you take the 5 minutes and buy it there or bring a travel size for your first day until you can get to the shops. 3- the hotel itself can be noisy. You hear lots of clanking of dishes in the hallways and near the "quiet" pool because that is where the service elevator is. Other advice: the hotel is wonderful in that they change your dollars into pesos for actual value without charging a premium. Do it for the bus fare and tips that are over $5 US. We did bring $50 in $1 bills to tip staff as they appreciated it more than pesos. If you are looking for a quiet adults only palace resort then stay at Isla Mujeres Palace. If you want a resort with tons of activities then Moon Palace is the place for you. Oh and don't book your airport taxi through the hotel. They use BD travel (best day travel). We paid $130 round trip for our direct shuttle to get from the airport and back. The shuttle to the hotel from the airport sucked - he was complaining to his co-workers that he was wasting his time only taking us two directly to the hotel even though we had paid for it so we didn't stop at other hotels. We sat in the shuttle for 5 minutes while he argued with the lady about taking us. He sucked. Most of all, enjoy your trip! read more

This was my first time in Cancun and I will definitely be coming back to this resort next time. My husband and I came for our honeymoon and they went out of their way to make us feel so special! The staff are amazing and go above and beyond to make you feel so welcome. The food was decent but was available 24 hours which was nice. We went on an excursion once during our 5 days here because we didn't want to leave. We went to Isla Muerjes on a guided tour through Sun Palace. Highly recommend it. Don't pay extra to swim with dolphins or anything unless you want to but you can definitely have a great time without spending extra money. They took us on a ferry with free alcoholic beverages and fun music. They took us to dolphin discovery which is a water amusement like park on the island. It was amazing. All inclusive drinks and buffets. MIGUEL is amazing if he's there, make sure you get drinks through him. We really enjoyed our stay at sun palace and will definitely be back. read more

Basics: We got a great deal on this place. We stayed for 5 days/4 nights. Check-In: When we first arrived, a bellman greeted us with cold towels to cool off and took our luggage inside. We walked inside and an immediate fragrance of fresh, perfumed flowers took over. Their lobby is so nice and clean. We checked in and were given champagne while we waited. The check in took a little longer than usual, but being an all inclusive and we had to get wristbands, I can understand. We were then given our room keys and went up to our room. Room: We booked a regular room with no extras - no suite, no ocean view. We walked to our room all the way on the south end of the 2nd floor. We open the door to a foyer type area with two room doors. I was a bit confused, but we tried the key for our room and walked inside. OMG is all I could say when we opened the door. I don't know if we were upgraded by mistake, but our room was a beautiful 2 room suite. Our room consisted of a separate dining and living area, and a separate bath and bedroom. The room is on the corner so we had 3 separate balconies with a street and an ocean view. One of the balconies had the Jacuzzi, which was facing the street. Kind of weird, but no biggie. The room itself is gorgeous and clean. The décor is minimal, yet very beautiful. The mini bar was fully stocked with name brand booze, beer, soft drinks, juice, and water. I was so impressed within the first 2 minutes of getting to our room. The housekeeping and mini bar service was excellent. Whenever we needed something, they attended to the issue very promptly and courteously. The housekeepers are very pleasant and do a great job of cleaning. The mini bar was re-stocked every day. The bed was very comfy. The shower was clean. The toiletries provided are very nice. They even provided bubble bath for the Jacuzzi. Food: I will admit, I'm extremely picky when it comes to food. I have a weird phobia of eating food in other countries. However, I figured since I love Mexican food, no worries. The first night we ordered room service. It was very prompt. The food was not very good at all. I tried several things, and it was just okay. I really was expecting more from room service. The next day we tried the breakfast buffet. I must say, this was my favorite place to eat. They have a variety of food, and it's very fresh and tasty. Seating is very lovely as you can choose to eat outside by the ocean. I believe we had room service again the second night. The next evening we ate at the Oriental restaurant. It was okay. Very small portions, but you can always order more if you'd like. The next day we ordered room service for breakfast. It was great! I believe we had room service again for dinner that evening - again, not very good. Our last evening, we ate at the Italian restaurant. It was very good and the service was excellent. All in all, the food is okay. There's a lot to choose from and we didn't eat at all the restaurants offered, but from what we had, it wasn't that great. Nothing to write home about. I expected better. Drinks: As previously stated, the mini bar is stocked everyday will everything you could want. The drinks we got in the bars around the resort were okay. Not very much alcohol, but not enough for me to complain as it is all inclusive, and you can always order another. Pool/Beach: The pool is so crowded and packed. You have to get up really early to get a spot at any of their three pools. The beach isn't much better, albeit a bit. It takes a while for a staff member to bring you a lounger/umbrella on the beach. The beach itself is very beautiful and breathtaking. I expected it to be hot, but it wasn't bad with the breeze coming off the ocean. Amenities: The resort offers a range of amenities. The fitness center is very clean and well kept while offering a range of equipment. There is a spa and a hair salon. We had a couples massage that was very lovely, but overpriced. We did use our resort credits, but it sill cost $150 out of pocket. They have staff on hand to assist you in booking excursion such as parasailing, jet skiing, swimming with dolphins, etc. We parasailed and jet-skied and had a blast. Prices were very reasonable. There is an ATM in the lobby and the front desk will exchange your currency. We had US $, not sure about other foreign currency. Staff/Service: You will not find a more hard-working, prompt, and friendly staff than here. Everyone is so nice, friendly, and willing to help. They truly take pride in their work from the housekeeping staff to the front desk receptionists. We made sure to bring lots of ones to tip everyone from the mini bar stocker and housekeepers to the restaurant and bar waitstaff. They truly deserve it. All in all, we had a great time at the Sun Palace. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The staff is outstanding. The food isn't great, but not so bad that I wouldn't return. We are members and had the opportunity to stay at the Sun Palace. Our first day was a complete disaster, we tried our best to make lemonade out of lemons which was a task. Be assured we not snotty people, we just want to be treated right and we will gratefully appreciate the service and leave decent tips. Well here goes our first day, we arrive at Sun Palace, the front desk took us in ASAP and gave us this incredible room which I was so grateful. I went downstairs to personally thank the front desk clerk and to give him a tip. My wife was with vacation planner Jesus from Veracruz, attempting to square away any excursions we may have. My wife returned to our beautiful room so upset because of Mr. Jesus' treatment. Mr. Jesus sat back in his chair with his arms crossed and belittled my wife, Mr. Jesus corrected my wife's Spanish and was of no help. My wife and our friends we traveled with simply could not take anymore of his rudeness, so no excursions were planned with Mr. Jesus simply because he acted like a jerk, so stay away from Mr. Jesus. Strike 1 In the afternoon we planned a beach day. Palace will not serve canned beer at the pool bar or bars, so the protocol is to bring down your canned beer from the room. Palace will provide each guest with a 6 pack of beer at our request and we can request as many 6 packs of beer as our hearts desire, as long as the beers that in our room are all gone. So when you take down a 6 pack of beer, you call room service to refill the 6 pack so that we can have additional beers for our beach day. Well I ordered the additional 6 pack knowing I was going to return for at least one more round of beers. 3 hours later I returned to our room to pick up the beers and there were no beers. I called the front desk to ask them if they could bring me a 6 pack of beer and I would wait, I was informed my Iris that it was going to take them an hour to bring us beer. I asked if they could bring me the beer to the beach and considering they forgot about my request, I didn't think it was too much of a compromise on their end. Iris rejected my request. Strike 2 Later that evening there was a tropical storm, so the majority of the guest were at the Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately it took them close to 2 hours to serve us. This is not acceptable. However the food was good. Strike 3 The next day was so much better. We had a blast, we met new people, exchanged stories and we all decided to go to dinner together at the Thai restaurant. I ordered a shot of tequila for the party that joined us. I gave a simple 5 second toast, we all raised our glasses and some took the shot. We all were having a blast, putting day 1 horrible experience behind us. Then comes the host and tells us to be quiet because we are disturbing the guest. I asked which guest because everyone that was outside was with us. Well the guy didn't have any answers and just remained to be rude. Once again this was not acceptable. Strike 4. The food at the Thai restaurant was just ok. I do want the readers to know Sun Palace is a gorgeous resort with incredible rooms. I can't comment on the excursions which we can thank Mr. Jesus, the entertainment was definitely good and our highlight was watching turtles come in to lay eggs and the releasing of baby turtles. I also wanted to point out that Sun Palace beach had very little seaweed. Every year we are grateful we can take a vacation and we are very selective with our choice of resorts as we have options to stay at either Hard Rock Resorts or Palace Resorts. Unfortunately it doesn't seem likely we will return. I sure hope we were the only guest that was treated this way because no one deserves to be treated as we were on our vacation. We have stayed at Sun Palace twice now and have never been disappointed with the service or the rooms. We are Diamond Members, our concierge Rocio is the best, she preplans everything for us prior to our arrival. The main chef is very friendly and accommodating. The GM is not the friendliest and is hardly ever seen, he should make a better effort to meet the people that keep him employed. read more

If you are running late or want to change the time, it's your management and your responsibility to let your customers know that you are running late. don't have them waiting !!! and please don't blame it on the traffic. We can understand being late for 20 OR 30 mins for the traffic not for 1hr and 40 mins (specially cancun traffic) may be you should come and see san francisco traffic. Also please be aware what has happened at your resort and why this appointment is being setup. Please don't ask us what would you like to do. its a wrong questions to ask maybe for you can jump of a cliff for your management staff. will you do that??. or maybe you can refund us for the 1 night each for both rooms for going through all the BS Crap that your management has given us. Please keep you business card to yourself. If you had to do something or taken an action you could have taken at the moment and not tell us to just call me if you need anything. WHAT ACTIONS DID YOU TAKE AT THAT TIME TO MAKE US FEEL COMFORTABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES WE HAD. As a GM You should know whats happening at your resort as a multi million operation that you are running. We do understand you cant keep and eye on everything but when a major decision is made on behalf of you by your management you should be aware. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. I was surprised with you and your management that they do not bring these issues to you or maybe your were playing us dumb that you had no idea what has happened. please do take time to find out whats happening at your resort. As you told us that you are older then Cancun city and there is nothing to see. may be you should focus more on your resort then the city of cancun. As a GM you are supposed to understand the needs of your hotel customer. If a matter has been brought up to your attention, that need to be resolved asap.You have been in the hotel industry for over 40 years as per your words but the lack of your decision making, situation handling and comforting customers skills don't prove that. We did not come and stay at Motel 5 and deserve this. You told us you will get back to us but it's been a month after our trip to your facility and you have not reached us. We will never come back here again. We were treated as second class citizens because we weren't "members" even though we were on our honeymoon. The room was terrible, the minibar didn't get stocked, the beach was full of seaweed, lunch took an hour to be served, we were pressured to pay 175,000 usd to buy their timeshare, overall a terrible experience. read more

The location is lovely, however when the hotel is full they can not accommodate dinners! They were completely overwhelmed. There are 4 restaurants, 3 are quite small and 2 of those 3 are outside. They were so busy they ran out of buzzers to distribute for the wait. We went to 3 of the 4 restaurants all waits were an hour or more. When we finally got in to the largest restaurant the service was horrible. We sat for over 20 minutes with nothing and no information. We finally left and walked over to the Italian restaurant that requires men wear slacks and had to do take out. We didn't get dinner until after 10 pm. Extremely disappointing especially since we are premier members. I would not come back to this location. Golf was also very difficult if you wanted to play at Rivera, which is the closer course. read more
