DO NOT GET THE BUBBLE TEA! I know it's buy one, get one for $1, but there's a reason!!! First, my milk tea came out in an alarming shade of neon green!! Second, they did not use enough honeydew powder so the drink just tasted like water with a hint of honeydew. It also wasnt sweet enough. The whole drink lacked flavor and I had to toss it. Same exact problems with the green tea milk tea. DO get some pastries. The honeydew cake is really good. The honeydew flavor is strong, but not overwhelming. The sponge cake is also light and fluffy. The Sun Pearl Bakery is the best Asian bakery in Orlando. My favorite is red bean bun. It has perfect moisture, texture, and sweetness. I know if you were not an Asian, you might not like sweet bean paste, but it is a big part of our sweets and pastry, and they are making it perfectly. My another favorite is their moose cakes. They always make it perfect and never let me down. The only problem is they do not accept electric transaction (no credit card nor debit card), so bring $20 bill there. read more

I always have to go here when I'm going to Orlando or even when I'm just going to pass by Orlando. I make sure to make a stop even if it means a longer drive! My favorite are the custard buns and I honestly grab all of them to buy, haha. Also I like the coffee bun and the pork and scallion one. They used to make one of taro that was also delicious, but they unfortunately discontinued it. They have other taro ones though that are pretty good too. You can call in a day or two to place an order if you want a certain amount of buns before you go. I never remember to so I just have to hope for the best that they aren't out of what I want before I get there. They make cakes and other pastries there too but I go specifically for the buns. Also, the bubble tea is great! There's a big market right in the same plaza that also makes bubble tea, but that place sucks. I really like the bubble tea at Sun Pearl better. Food is good and prices are good too. They only accept cash! So make sure you have cash on you to buy what you want or someone else will snatch it all up. Few words: convenient, yummy, and satisfying. I've been a semi-regular since several years ago when this bakery first opened. My friends and I at the time were stoked that we finally have a boba serving bakery in our area. It's been much too long since my first visit so I can't clearly recall my initial impression, but it must've been damn good for me to come back so many times for so long. Not only is it conveniently located, it's self-serve. It's a treat every time I come by Orlando's China Town, which isn't that often due to distance. Some of the flavors of cakes and bread are foreign to even an Asian like myself, like pork, but all the other flavors never disappoint. I love their fruit flavored soft cakes and especially, BOBA TEA. Their taro tea slush is something I get nearly every time I visit and it's always delicious. While I was in Orlando, I really wanted to look to see if there was a Korean bakery anywhere. This place pops up, so my girlfriend and I decided to try it out, the pictures on here made our mouths water. We got a bunch of pastries and some moon cakes. Our favorite was the matcha red bean cake and the green tea moon cake. And I think that's where the list ends. The custard bun was nothing special, same as any bakery you come across. The black sesame soybean cake looked so good but was very underwhelming, maybe because I like my sweets sweeter. But to each their own. The green tea moon cake was nice and dense, sweet too and had a odd but pleasant after taste. The coffee sponge cake wasn't too bad, wishing they would put a little more cream on all of their pastries. We also got a couple drinks, I got the strawberry milk tea and my girlfriend got the traditional milk tea, but we're also underwhelming. I asked for extra sweet which I didn't get, tasted the same as my girlfriends which was made however they normally make it. It's pretty much a watered down version of anything you order. With a hint of the flavor you choose. They got plenty of different pastry items for all different kinds of taste buds, but this definitely didn't do it for me at all. Sun Pearl Bakery is one of the nicer bakeries in Orlando. I always try to stop by when I'm on the west side of town. The bakery itself is very clean and neat, that's a huge plus because some of the bakeries that are a part of Asian markets are not the cleanest... The pastries are good, if we're going to compare it to other places in Orlando, then it's very good. But compared to bakeries in California, this place would be at par. The prices are relatively fair, ranging anywhere from $1.50-$3 per pastry. I don't think that's a bad price because it always seem to be fresh, my only complaint would be that I wish there was more variety in the type of pastries. Last complaint would have to do with the fact that they take CASH only. I know certain people have their preferences when it comes to payment, but it's 2017 and a lot of people use card... it would make things a lot more convenient. There has been time where I wanted to purchase some pastries but was not able to because I did not have cash on hand and did not have the time to go to an ATM. I always come really early on the weekend with my kids. They love the hot dog bun and pineapple bun. Occasionally I will order birthday cake from them as well. I LOVE this bakery!!! I visited for the first time today and got so much deliciousness. I originally came searching for my favorite red bean paste bun but there were so many fresh, delicious looking pastries that I had try some additional items as well. The taro bun was out of this world delicious! The red bean paste bun was still warm and sooooo yummy. And besides the food, the customer service was awesome! The woman that worked there took the time to patiently explain to me what each item was. I felt so welcomed into their establishment. Rude and un-respectful to their customer!  This is my second visit to this bakery.  First time I had some Boba tea which was only mediocre compared to some other Boba tea places in Orlando.  I decided to give this bakery another try but I will NOT return as customers after what took place.  No smile or greeting from the employees when we walked in.  My 2.5-year-old picked up a piece of Pineapple cake (wrapped in package) out of curiosity which I immediately took it and placed it back on the shelf.  One of the employee (maybe owner?) saw and walked to check on the Pineapple cake and threw it in trash can.  The employee told the other employees with a voice level to make sure we heard, "Children should not be near these Pineapple cake packages".  My child apparently had crushed the $2.25 pineapple cake.  I would be ok had the employee just came up to me and asked politely to make sure my child doesn't touch the goods.  I might even buy the damaged pineapple cake if they asked.  But the way they handled the situation was just rude and un-respectful.  For $2.25 of pineapple cake, they lost me as customer and I would discourage any of my friends from shopping at this bakery.  There are better choices in Orlando. read more

(12/13/2017) Made an quick grocery run to 1st Oriental Market next door and wanted some sweets to take back. It's a classic, little, Taiwanese bakery with all sorts of sweet buns and cakes made to order. Sun Pearl is the eastern Orlando extension of Formosa Bakery. I got a couple of mini (single serve) wrapped sponge cakes, Lemon-Coconut, Banana Cream, Walnut Cookies, and Coconut Butter Bread. All very moist, fresh, delicate, not too sweet. Got a classic boba milk tea for the ride home, was OK, boba were held too long and were gluey (not enough turnover, I suspect). Woah buddy. $3.95 milk tea boba drinks with 35 cents boba upcharge...and they serve it in a large plastic cups. Not too shabby, Sun Pearl made me a very content customer indeed.. especially with the green tea (macha) flavored milk tea. I have yet to come across another boba tea supplier with that specific flavor, so for this reason I salute this bakery. Sun pearl had the aroma of fresh breads and tasty cakes. Stopped by here with my sister today and this store is so cute. They have an assortment of baked goods, curry bread, cakes, pastries and other Asian baked goods. We got a Vanilla layered cake, a Taro moon cake, some madeleines, and a tiramisu. I have never had a mooncake before, and I will admit, I don't think I'm a fan of them after trying one for the first time. It's very heavy and stodgy and didn't have much flavor. We tried the Vanilla Layered Cake when we got home and really enjoyed it. This place has cheap prices which will definitely bring me back to try more food. read more

This is probably the ONLY Taiwanese bakery in FL. It is owned by, I think two middle aged Taiwanese women, and there's a grandma in the kitchen helping out most of the time. But there might be more people because you can tell this is a family business. I've been here probably 6 times in the past. My family and I have driven all the way to Orlando just to come to this bakery. We pre-order about $60-100 worth of baked goods and meat/vegetable buns. It makes me happy to see/hear that people enjoy the stuff here (I am Taiwanese-American). Everything is dirt cheap yet still fresh and of good quality. This time I had the opportunity to bring my friends here and they excitedly picked out a few things to try, and were quite satisfied I think! Their swiss roll cakes, coconut buns, fresh + not frozen Taiwanese meat buns, and pig shaped bread are my favorites. Each meat bun is only $0.96 and nothing is over probably $2.00. The plaza and the stores inside that this bakery is located in is becoming more ghetto every year... But this store has not changed. Decor here is a bit drab but that's irrelevant if the food is great. Never had their bubble tea (I don't know why people call it boba ? ?) because it doesn't look great to me. Don't get the boba tea here, its all powered base. YUCK!! The bakery is very small compared to the ones in Fort Lauderdale. I really enjoyed all of the BaoBao (buns in chinese) Most of the Baos I chose were very tasty besides a blackish creamy one. I believe it was labeled as sesame seed cake. I didn't like it because it was a very dry texture and it was too plain and bland. It wasnt my cup of tea. I also had the pineapple sponge cake. I like this one a lot since its not too sweet and overwhelmed with buttercream but with a pineapple filling which was great since it was in between the layers of the cake. There was about 4 layers. It made me very full. Another great cake I bought was the large cheese cake. Its more of a cake than the average cheesecake from publix or the Cheesecake Factory. It had more flour in it so it was fluffy and soft, you can taste the creaminess of it as well. Although it was a bit pricey for the size. The large size is $8.95, there are small one in display near the cashier which is $1.95. I like the bigger one is a better value. If you are giving a first try, the small one would be more reasonable. I also had a few other buns but they smell weird, since there is a dry pork in it, so I didnt bother to try it at all. My bf overall, really enjoyed it and the taro buns. There is a cute cake thats shape like a smiley face, I love the spongecake in that one but the buttercream is a turn off for me. It was too thick. In addition to pastries, they also have breads, cakes, and tarts. They have different flavors of milk tea to choose from but I settled on an original milk tea with boba. I'm not too crazy about all the different flavors so the plain milk tea is my usual choice. I was probably going to end up with a total of around 20 dollars, but then was rejected at the register when I pulled out my credit card. My gf and I came here after having lunch at a nearby restaurant and we left feeling this bakery was just ok. We only sampled a few of their desserts, and while they were tasty, I didn't find them to be great. We also purchased a coconut boba tea, make that 2 teas since you have the option of purchasing a second beverage for only $1. The tea wasn't that good, definitely NOT one of the better boba teas we have tasted. Although served with ice, it was very warm which made the boba have an odd consistency. The service also left much to be desired; do not expect to be greeted with a warm welcome. Some of the buns are pretty pricey so I usually don't get those. Their cakes are pretty good. The ones that are animal shape have no flavor and no filling! It's just for the look and pretty bready. If you don't want to spend too much money, don't buy the animal shape ones. I haven't try their bobas yet so I can't say but they have a good deal when you buy two. They also make whole cakes. This place get's a 5 star rating because to me it is the only place that serves "Taiwanese" food. I could just eat the braised pork on rice every day if I had to. I would live off mostly that and then eat all the yummy pastries for dessert and drink their teas to hydrate. You must try the strawberry black tea. It is addicting! The only thing that I don't like the taste of is the Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup compared to say northern China's Beef Noodle soup or even southern China. Either way, the food is great. Great bakery, only Taiwanese bakery I think that is worth buying and storing. When I'm in Orlando from Tampa, I usually grab a few dozen of the buns and some loafs of the toasts. Store them in freezer or give them to friends. Although other bakeries have "similar" stuff, what makes this one stand out is the actual bread itself. It's white, soft, and lasts more than 2 days if you don't freeze them. Other places all have this brownish color on top, which shouldn't be there and they go stale pretty pick and they don't taste as good even when they're fresh. Their hot food is limited but then it's not their focus. I only tried it once, and I probably won't try it again since there are other places right around it that focuses more on food than bakery. read more
