My family and I have been going to Sun Rise Cafe for 10 years now. The food is delicious. I absolutely love the Country Benedict. My 9 year old daughter has her "usual" because we go so often. The owner knows us by name and if he see's you outside of Sun Rise, he remembers your name. The staff are all amazing. They always have a smile and kind words. Sun Rise is a locally-owned place serving classic diner food, with standby breakfast and lunch offerings (nothing too crazy or unique). Sun Rise is very customer-friendly, quickly recognizing regulars (even posting their pics in the past). My dad was a long-time customer at Sun Rise at its old location, before he passed away, and it is comforting to see his headshot retained in a collage at Sun Rise's newer Pine Valley location. Great customer service aside, Sun Rise's food is just okay, nothing mind-blowing. Some of the items don't seem entirely made from scratch, but they are made well, served hot and efficiently. Prices are fairly cheap and the portions are huge, so you get a lot of bang for your buck...the Hoosier way. I recommend the avocado and bacon omelet, spruced up with hot sauce. The hash browns were okay and the side of fruit had more diversity than expected, low on the honeydew (I'll bash reject-honeydew at any opportunity). Most other items tasted average, not bad...again, nothing that stood out. However, if you are looking for hot, lovingly-made breakfast that will satisfy every palate, Sun Rise is a good place to visit with a large group of family or friends. If I was responsible for breakfast plans for a group of cheap, picky eaters, I'd take them to Sun Rise. read more

We have only had breakfast here, so my review is based solely on breakfast. (They serve lunch, but are closed for dinner). From the outside, the place looks really small, but it's bigger than it looks. Not a whole lot to say about breakfast other than the food was excellent, along with great service. Decided to have a breakfast date with my mom and we stopped by Sun Rise Cafe. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and family friendly, with a lot of smiling faces. My mother comes to this cafe often and it was nice to see the staff recognize and make conversation with her. I ordered "the Mom" omelette, which came with a two sides of my choice (I chose fresh fruit and buttered toast). The omelette was bland - didn't taste of much. There was an overwhelming amount of green peppers and tomatoes and that was all I could taste. The price was steep for a bland dish (about $9). Another great breakfast spot in Fort Wayne! I ate here for lunch during my break, and it was great! I had the egg white omelette with turkey and pineapple. The food came fairly quickly, and it was very good. This a local diner, so the vibe is very relaxed and friendly. I would definitely eat here again. Stopped in for breakfast with a friend around 7:30 on a Tuesday. They weren't too busy yet but by the time we left around 8:40 the place was packed! We both ordered skillets with scrambled eggs. My skillet was a good typical breakfast skillet. There was plenty of food that I had about half to take home as left overs. The staff was very pleasant and quick to fulfill our needs. What's not to love about this little breakfast cafe? It's home cooked food in a great town that is busy each morning with regulars, great coffee, friendly service and hot food that you know will be good each time you visit. Very big parking lot as it's shared with a strip mall. Walking in you'll notice how clean It is and how the tables are kept clean and the condiments are always full. Service is friendly and the staff has been there for a long time. Management will even come to check on you if they're in the building. Plenty of tables so the wait won't be too long if you go sitting prime times. Especially on the weekends. I have had many items here. The salads are large, three omelets are a good size, the sandwiches are tasty and everything I've eaten was prepared As ordered. Prices are comparable with other places to eat your breakfast at but it's locally owned which is always-a better places to eat than a chain. Highly recommend eating here. read more

We stopped here for breakfast after passing this place several times. I think Fish of Stroh's used to be here. The interior is really nice and updated, not what I expected when I compare it to similar establishments in the area. The staff was very nice and we were immediately seated. I ordered eggs with feta cheese, hash browns, wheat toast, and ham. The food was good. It was not anything mind blowing but it was tasty and not that expensive. On the way out, I bought one of the humongous cookies near the register and was not disappointed. We will definitely come back at some point. read more

I concur with Patty N's review...a very nice, locally owned and run place with reasonably priced, good food. I just went there for breakfast this morning (Sunday, 2/27/11) with some friends. I had the "Two eggs & bacon or sausage links (with hash browns and toast or pancakes)" for $5.39. (I had sausage links and raisin toast...the sausages were slightly over browned, but the raisin toast was good). Service was good and fast, although the food was slightly cool. Recommended! I've been to the Sunrise Cafe many times for breakfast with family and friends. It's a great place for the usual breakfast fare. The staff if usually very attentive and friendly, but we have noted the it depends upon timing of the visit. The food is good, like I said, usual comfort food breakfast fare. We enjoy the southern breakfast or a good plain waffle, nicely prepared. If you want a real "volume" food experience try one of the skillets. You'll be sure to go home with leftovers. read more

The unpretentious breakfast joint. A rarity it seems in the age of concept heavy strip mall restaurants. Sun Rise Cafe is a classic greasy spoon with all the dishes you would expect to see. I came here searching for my self-destructive breakfast obsession, chicken fried steak. There's come with a nice white creamy sausage gravy that just screams 'please plug up my arteries now!'. Oh but its so tasty, stick to your ribs stuff. I wish the size were a little bigger but that's probably a good thing. It comes with a side of hash browns which were sufficiently extra crispy as requested and two sunny side up eggs with toast. My coffee cup was never empty and I felt the service to be personable and friendly. Kind of makes me want to be a regular. Their hours are pretty limited 6am to 9pm week days (be sure to call). Also weekends (be sure to call) Which is limited, I wish they were open for late night foraging. My boyfriend and I do not go to this side of Ft Wayne very often and we had no idea where to eat. On a whim we saw this restaurant and decided to try it out! Very friendly staff, awesome food. Good prices. We didn't have to wait long for our food despite the restaurant being very busy. I got a Western Skillet and it was amazing. I am gluten and dairy free so I have to be careful with restaurants but they were very considerate and made the necessary modifications for me. We will definitely be back! read more

It's actually pretty much run of the mill for me in this location. It's easy to get in and out of, it's in a fairly busy and well managed strip mall on Coldwater, and it's situated by several stores that I like to visit as well as the DMV. The only major problem with the Sun Rise Cafe is that it's honestly average in every regard. The food is delicious, but nothing to go out of your way for. The pricing is decent if you're on a budget, and the pies are alright but you can get better. The only reason I ever find myself at this restaurant is when I'm with several people, and we like a quiet atmosphere that's not too far out of our way, and I think that's truly the only thing that this location excels at. Fantastic bean soup and cornbread, pancakes rock out, and a large lunch selection. I would like to see them stay open for dinner, especially since the nearby DMV is open 24 hours. I'm sure they would be successful. I was only disappointed by the limited pie selection. Only coconut cream was available.
