I was thinking Suntan city on Wornell w​as a good salon at first. But I left my jewelry there and I've been back twice to try to recover it and have been told both times that a manager needed to be contacted in order to have the safe opened. I've called and left several messages and now calling again the number is now disconnected! I am not sure why it is taking so long for someone to contact me back as I've left my number and my name there several times. I am reaching out to customer service tomorrow morning and then I will let my attorney handle it from there. How does a business change their phone number or not pay their bill and allow the phone to no longer be in service? Not very business oriented! read more

I can't even think of enough good words to say about this salon and the folks working there. It is spotless! I am greeted by very helpful and friendly staff. Page is so great! She immediately welcomed me when I stepped in the door. It has been a long time since I have been welcomed into a business. I did tan with no waiting, they have a lot of beds, I even took advantage of the hydro bed!! That is game changing. Thanks so much to the friendly helpful staff for starting my day off so perfectly. I never go out of my way to write reviews, but this experience warrants it. I went into Sun Tan City on Wornall this evening to get a spray tan before a wedding I have tomorrow. (yes in hindsight should never trust a place like STC and should've just gone to a person who sprays like Recreating Rays) however I've been here in years past before a birthday or party and was fine with the results. As the spray booth began and started to spray, I looked down at my body and it was covered in spots.... Like paint had been splattered on me. I waited for the booth to stop and when I immediately got out and went straight to the front desk and politely told "Kendra" (she says that's her name but I highly doubt it is. She has jet black straw like hair, leather tan, and really thick fake eyelashes) that the spray booth may be broken, she insisted that it wasn't. She met me with EXTREME rudeness and condescending tone. She made one of the girls who came into the store who supposedly works there to get into the booth to get a spray to see if it was actually broken?! After I showed her all of the spots on my chest, arms, and legs. I politely asked her if I could just go home and shower it off and have a refund for my spray and she immediately said "Nope! No refunds!" Thankfully the sweet younger girl working the front desk stepped in and gave me the customer service card and suggested I call to see if they could remove the charge and suggested putting a free spray on my account in the future. (Nice offer but won't be returning). I have never, in my life been so disrespected after not being satisfied with a service like this. Kendra was disgusting, rude, and unprofessional. read more

I only give two stars because the place is a disgusting. Floors, beds, and mirrors are all smudged, crumby, and just gross. The girls are not nice at all either. They try and push products on you even thought you say no. They do not greet you and there is hardly anyone at the desk when I walk in. They act like they hate their job. *Mixed review* Overall the business has very polite employees and offers a quality and efficient service. Unfortunately, there is clearly a systemic issue with Sun Tan City continuing monthly withdrawals post cancelation. After moving to a location without a branch, I visited my local site to cancel my service. The business proceeded to withdraw my monthly rate for the following 3 months. This was despite multiple phone calls and email reminders. Upon returning to the site to sort things out I was directed to online software used for customer service. My refund was denied and I was offered store credit for my inconvenience. The cited reasoning was "no proof of cancellation". The business fails to send cancellation confirmation emails, only giving a paper form that must be stored by customers to confirm their cancellation (often several months after the business continues withdrawals). This cooperate strategy employed by Sun Tan City is the reason I cannot recommend them in good faith. Shop elsewhere for your tanning needs. read more

TERRIBLE establishment that deserves 0 stars. I pay way too much money for this place to be closed during business hours, which has now happened multiple times. Just arrived on my way home from work at exactly 5pm & there's a (barely legible) written sign on the door saying "Closed until 6:30pm" with the door locked. I go back to my car & watch as 2 guests leave at different times & it was obvious they had both just been tanning. I tried to call but it went to voicemail saying I've tried to reach them 'after hours' when it's clearly during business hours... On previous occasions the inside was really dirty, to the point where I had to come back out of my room before tanning to ask them to reclean the bed. After they cleaned the bed & advised me it was good to go, I still saw lotion on the side of the bed that your legs touch when getting in & out. Very unprofessional business that needs to shut down already. I will be taking my time & money elsewhere, I highly suggest anyone whose read this far to do the same. read more

The location has nice beds, is clean and has friendly service. They have several beds and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes on a bed, but I also usually go in the afternoon, before 5pm. They have these systems on the wall so you can listen to the radio or plug in your iPhone/mp3 player and listen to your own tunes while you bake. The upside: If you have the membership you can take at any of their locations in country. They have a lot. The downside: you can't walk in here without them trying to sell you product. It's slightly annoying if you're in a few times a week. Also you need your own eye wear here so if you don't have some then be ready to buy it. It's pretty cheap, $5 read more

I am not very impressed with this business, but continue to go here due to their cheap monthly prices (about $20/month for the "fast" bed with membership) and it's convenient location to my house. Pros: -Decent location for my house in Waldo -Monthly price -Decent specials -I got burned badly once (I am very careful to go up slowly on my time and not use beds with new bulbs) and they gave me double my points and a bottle of aloe vera Cons: -THE DOORS LOCK, BUT DO NOT LATCH. You can just push them open. -The plastic head rests. Most uncomfortable thing ever, very awkward. I push mine to the side. -Not all the radio docks work -Getting asked to buy something nearly every visit -No trash can, rug, baby wipes, etc offered in the rooms. -Stickers aren't available on the front desk -Not getting a thank you all the time when you leave. So so customer service. -Phone number doesn't call directly to the store (when I called to complain about getting burnt) If it wasn't summer and if I wasn't getting married in a couple months, I would and will try to find somewhere else to go, even if I had to pay a bit more. read more

I use my thumb print to make purchases and send secure emails. NO SUNTAN CITY. JUST NO. I am not paranoid. I am just educated in the progress of technology and the indubitable importance of your personal privacy. 2. No minute packages or monthly unlimited specials are available. You have to do a recurring monthly membership or purchase outrageously priced single tan. For someone like me that only tans in the winter before vacay or a big event this place makes NO SENSE. 3. I worked at Celsius all through high school and college and I know it should take more than 15 seconds to wipe down a bed. As I was sitting in the lobby I watched the bed cleaner. She didn't wipe the top of the bed, the head rest, or the handle area where you pull the bed down. It's flu season. Again just no and gross. THEY LOCKED ME IN THEIR STORE!!!!! I could have been having a medical emergency and they just left, locked the doors for the night, and went home leaving me stuck inside!!! AND I'VE RECEIVED NO SINCERE APOLOGY OR CALL FROM A MANAGER! I went to tan on 4/1/19. I had to wait awhile as it was busy, and was able to get into a 20 minute bed around 9:45PM. Once done tanning, I got out and realized all the lights have been turned off. I left my room and SCREAMED several times for someone, but everyone had left. The front door was locked and I ended up having to go out the rear emergency exit. I struggle from extreme anxiety and this made me spiral into a full blow anxiety attack. Law enforcement is recommending I SUE THEM! When I was finally able to get ahold of someone at corporate, she was EXTREMELY unapologetic, and all she offered was a free spray tan! I have since talked to two other corporate employees, but have yet to receive a call from a supervisor as I've requested several times. Now, I'm trying to cancel my membership and they're telling me they can't refund my money for the month of April because I went tanning on April 1 - WHICH WAS THE DAY I WAS LOCKED IN! You would think, if they had ANY sort of customer service, they would waive that one day, right? The lack of a sincere apology is absolutely disgusting. What if I had a heart attack in the bed and died and they just left me there overnight? Not to mention HOW DISGUSTING IT IS that they would leave a bed dirty overnight?? This place is a disgrace and is obviously lacking proper training of their employees. Someone needs to be held responsible and I deserve an apology for this traumatizing event. read more

2016 I purchased my daughter a 1 year membership. After the year was up they continued to charge my account. I guess that was my fault that I didn't go in and rip my account information from them. After 4 additional months I had gone in and cancelled my account. They still continued to charge me. After another complaint and talking with the customer service department they assured me that they had it cancelled. This has now gone on for another year and a half for over $1200. The last time I spoke with them they told me to contact my bank and file a fraud charge. I followed their advice and filed the fraud charge and they then told my bank that I did not follow their cancellation policy. Beware for providing this second rate company with any of your information. They also told me that they could see that I had not been in to use their services at all. There are plenty of other facilities and in my opinion anyone would be better off looking elsewhere. 1 star is too high. Customer service is terrible. Sun Tan City is the worst place to go tanning. I am so frustrated by my experience with that place. I got a membership, and went 2-3 times a week. Every time I went I felt forced to buy lotions or some type of product I DIDNT NEED. The employees are pushy and a bit judgemental. So I have been coming here for a couple of months now and it is always a wait to get in. They tell me to use the app to get an appointment. Well the app doesn't work. I told the lady at the front that it didn't and all she said was is that they hear that all the time. Now here I am- the ONLY time I have had in 2 weeks to tan is on Saturday morning at 8am. It's 8:21 and they still aren't open. There are several of us waiting outside. This is insane. A couple of weeks ago when I was in there was 1 girl working by herself because she said the other girl was too hung over to come in. What kind of business are they running? I go here because of the location to my house and the fantastic savings they offer. I read a few comments and I am shocked people are saying negative things about the service. Perhaps there has been enough turnover lately to alleviate that issue. I think the staff has ALWAYS been friendly and polite. There was even a busy night where one of the poor girls had a girl not show up for her shift, so she was doing everything by herself and there was about a 5-7 min wait while she cleaned beds. She apologized a lot and said someone didn't show up. Good for her, you could tell she was stressed but she held it together. Most of these girls are in high school or college. I noticed someone belittled their education and I think that's unfair. I like this location, and hopefully you will too! Oh and tips for the spray tan? Grab a few extra wash cloths and soak one in the sink before going in, use the barrier cream so it is thick and not rubbed in on your palms and nails. Immediately after the spray tan, uses dry towel to wipe off the cream. Grab the wet towel and scrub the bottoms of your feet, very thoroughly! Then get dressed and go in the restroom and wash your hands. Using this method I never have orange feet or palms at any spray booth. You're welcome. read more

I left this location a couple years ago due to a number of frustrating situations with the corporation it's self not the location. I attempted to return to the STC on 119th and found that its not longer part of the company and quickly signed up.. Just as quickly I canceled (Two weeks later due to lack of customer service and the fact that Dave the owner wouldn't respond when trying to contact him). it took we three weeks to have the charge removed for the month after I canceled and now I'm on round two of trying to get them to stop charging me for a canceled contract.... Non the less I returned to the Wornall location and am happy to say that the staff was very positive and focused on the customer. I had mentioned that I had been to the 119th and left for several reasons and the young lady was very professional by simply saying " I'm sorry to hear that you had issues and decided to leave. We will try to make your visits here as positive as we can" WOW so great to that there was no trash talk or even inquiring on what my issues were with the 119th location. I've been a member of Sun Stan City for over two years. I really could not ever understand why the girls were so catty, genuinely not helpful, and extremely undertrained on customer service. I was contemplating pulling my membership because I was so over the lack of care. HOWEVER, this location is under a new salon director and he is awesome! He's very helpful, informative, organized, and has lifted the morale of the entire store. As a customer, this was a smart hire, as he saved me from pulling my membership and I'm sure many, many others. read more

I was very skeptical to get a spray tan again, the first time I went was not at sun tan city and it was quite oompa loompa esk. They have an automatic machine here and I did the clear bronze and I'm very satisfied. I wasn't sure what color to do and the lady at the front desk was very helpful. Go to the one on Shawnee Mission Parkway instead!!!! That's all I can say. The staff is more on top of their job, the salon is much cleaner, they have a newer versa spa booth. I was in there for an entire hour and 10 minutes today just to tan for 8 minutes in the instant and spray. The girl put me in the instant for 12 full minutes! I could have fried to death! She let someone jump in front of me in the spray bed too so I had to wait forever. The floors in the spray rooms are so dirty the bottoms of my feet are dark brownish orange! I joined last week and chose the fastest bed. The monthly fee is kinda expensive but I have a real nice base tan after six visits. Most of the staff is friendly and a great help. Some of the staff is short and curt. I asked to use a coupon from their online sight and they made me pull up the site to prove it. I felt like they were calling me a liar. Don't they know what specials they are running? Heck they r only running 1 special. The lotions are pretty typical of tanning salons . Do a simple google search and u can find the same brands for 60 or more percent off. The place is clean . They provide a hand towel but nothing else. Most places offer a few things like baby wipes, deoderate, and just basics so u can return to work or whatever...these r not provided here and be ready to pay for forgotten items. I am giving 4 stars because I like the beds, the hours, most of the staff, and it's clean. read more

I bought the highest membership as I like to bed tan AND spray tan. The best bed, #1, is pretty much always full or over heated so I bring a book and prepare to wait at least 20 minutes if I come between 11-1p or after 4pm. The spray tan is okay but not the best that I've had. The barrier cream is really bad so I bought my own. The worst part of the experience is the counter help which are at best rude and the "salon director" is the worst of the bunch. It is pretty convenient which is the only reason I've stayed but not for long. I'm sure the turnover here is quite high! Too bad they can't get good help in this location. read more

Do not go to this location. The workers here are under educated and rude. It appears they care more about working on they own tans than they do about their customer service. Keep your package, because the price is good, and take a little drive over to the 119th street location. The employees there are wonderful and the salon offers a lot more options and appears to be more clean. I have never had a problem there and even though the Wornall location is right down the street from me I will not be returning. 119th location is the only way I will continue to be a customer of Sun Tan City. read more
