Only fixed boba place (among other things - smoothies, teas, soufflé pancakes) in the neighborhood and tried it today for the first time. (Take out, of courses since social distancing in effect). Super unfortunate timing since the City just ordered a stay-at-home/work-from-home in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, but I REALLY hope this place can survive the pandemic-caused shutdowns, because they y are legit good. Bought the green jasmine tea with boba and the tea is a very good and rich tea flavor (can tell it's quality tea) and the boba is Just The Right Texture. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the wait was longer than I expected, but that may be because they only opened days ago and because of the unexpected rush (around 10 people around) during this COVID-scary day. I may revise my review to 5 stars after a 2nd or 3rd try (assuming they survive, and I hope they do!). Update 3/29: I live in Kakaako and walk past Sun Tea Mix almost daily. **CORRECTION** as the owner mentioned, the parking is at 400 Keawe or at SALT. They validate for either or. Get the taro milk tea! It's not on the menu, but I highly recommend it. I usually park on the street as the only parking I've seen for them is around the corner sort of near earl and that parking lot only has one stall marked for sun tea mix. The taro milk tea uses real taro and is finished with some rice crispy cereal which adds a nice texture and flavor, even when it gets soggy! They only offer this drink in size M but that is enough. It's on the pricier side so I usually forego the boba (as my bf does not particularly like their boba texture). I personally don't mind their boba texture, but as I mentioned, it can be more expensive that other milk tea places, but the quality is there! 25% sweet is enough for me here, so be warned that it may be on the sweeter side here. Don't forget to ask for a stamp card so that you can get a reward after buying so many milk teas as you WILL be back for more. I haven't tried their souffle pancakes yet, but they look nice, and they even make special shapes like hearts for valentines! Give this place a try! read more

Before I start off this review, I just want to remind people to not be like the idiot that called in several different phone orders for one pick-up. If you know in advance you're going to have several different drink or menu items, then use their online order tool on their website instead of creating confusion and/or additional stress on the business and other customers. Even with that mishap, shout out to Sun Tea Mix for still managing to complete my online order at the expected time despite the aforementioned idiot's mass unorganized order. Now...onto the review. Sun Tea Mix caught my interest back in early March when a coworker and I had been walking through Kaka'ako looking for lunch. While they were still under construction, you could see the beginnings of a minimalist interior (akin to something you'd see out of Architectural Digest) with bright advertisements full of fresh fruit smoothies, teas, and souffles. It was enough to keep us checking whenever we were in the area. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit us in the worst way about mid-March, so I'm not sure when Sun Tea Mix officially opened, but I was glad to see that they did as I was walking by sometime last month with, oddly enough, the same coworker and we decided to stop by to pick up a drink. I decided to get the Strawberry and Blueberry Smoothie with Cheese Foam, while my coworker got the Fruit Oolong Tea. It took a few minutes for the drinks to be made, so just keep that in mind if you do decide that you're going to do a walk-in order. You can also use their online order app on their website, so you can actually time the drink to be ready for pick-up whenever you're in the area. In any case, my coworker did think the drink to be too sweet and with not a lot of fruit as advertised in one of their posters, but she also noted that STM used good quality tea. I, on the other hand, really enjoyed my smoothie. It was perfectly blended so that you could taste the different berries and the cheese foam (a first for me) was a delightful surprise as it was both savory and sweet, and perfectly complemented the fresh fruit in the smoothie. It was so good that I went back and tried their Mango Smoothie with Cheese Foam and loved that as well, especially as they used fresh, ripe mangoes for the blend. Overall, I think that if you're craving a smoothie, tea, or boba drink (even souffles), I would highly recommend Sun Tea Mix. Their use of fresh ingredients allows customers a wonderful drink option on a hot summer day (such as today), and the employees there are always so welcoming and warm. Plus, I find it important now more than ever to support local businesses, so definitely mask up, venture out, and see what the hype is all about. I promise you it'll be worth it! read more

Personally I'm a strawberry fiend so I preferred the strawberry but my brother really liked the boba pancakes. my sister heard about this location recommended by a friend and since we were in kakaako, we thought we'd give it a try before leaving to aiea cause we don't normally come on this side unless its too see our parents yenno. when we walked in, we were greeted from the staffs. the place looks very clean and aesthetic, but very slow also. since it was our first time there, we were taking long on what to purchase but they were very patient about it. my sister saw they had souffles so she decided the try creme brule souffle which i give 3/5 - very salty and bitter but the sauce and souffle was good. i ordered the matcha latte which i'd give a 4.5/5 - it was sweet but i could taste some powder when i mixed it. overall we would come back here again.. about three weeks later, we came back the second time of course while we were in the area. i ordered the mango smoothie with no cheese foam giving it 4..5/5 - it was very good, it had natural blended fruit and mango pulps but it was very sweet cause of the mango syrup added into it too. my sister of course ordered the souffle haha this time it was the brown sugar boba souffle but i don't like boba and she couldn't eat cause she had braces sooo the staff recommended to get the classic one since its the same but without boba but my sister wanted to try so she got the boba instead giving it 3.5/5 - it tasted very good but i still don't like boba lol. the cost of the menu is kinda expensive, but worth it. the waiting time is less than 5 minutes since it's slow everytime we go there. the parking is behind hmart - its free if its less than an hour to an hour i think. the location is pretty noticeable, and in a busy community. other than that, if you're ever in kakaako side then i'd recommend giving this place a try cause its really worth it i promise! read more

This place is great for boba or dessert! I tried the regular milk tea and really enjoyed it. I like that this place doesn't use powder tea, they actually use real tea and ingredients are fresh. My favorite drink was the watermelon smoothie with cheese foam. If you are looking for dessert try the soufflés. Their soufflé are light and airy. It's not thick like a traditional soufflé which are rich and dense. My favorite soufflé is the creme brûlée soufflé. They actually use a blow torch to burn the sugar. The only thing is that soufflé and pancakes will take a while to get your order because it takes time to make and they make everything to order so be patient and if they are busy expect a long wait. The service is great and the staff are very friendly and nice. My first impression of the store is that it was very clean and spacious. My only complaint is that they have no non-dairy alternatives to whole milk. I'd really like to try the milk teas, but I can't because of the milk (maybe it was just the day I went?) I really think getting some alternatives would be really good for business since things like soy and coconut milk are getting more popular. I just tried this place yesterday and first of all the interior design is so pretty and it looks so clean. Can't wait for this place to fully open. Anyways, I ordered 3 drinks and a creme brûlée souffle pancake. The pricing for the drinks is a little high but it the taste is pretty good. I ordered my drinks on their website so maybe that was why(?) but there is no option to choose your sweetness level so watch out for that. Thankfully though the drinks were not overbearingly sweet so there was no problem there. I got the matcha latte, berry smoothie and mango smoothies. Also I'd like to say that the boba they use is the gold/brown type and not the usual black boba. As for the pancakes, they tasted great but they were definitely reminiscent of Chinese egg puffs as a previous reviewer had mentioned. I love the interior of the store; it's very instagrammable and aesthetic. My wife was really excited to try this place but we were both severely disappointed. Customer service is absolutely terrible. We ordered two drinks and a soufflé and they said it would be 20 min so that's fine. We came back in 20 min and saw that it got very busy and crowded inside and the workers all seemed to get very flustered and panicked. After 25 min we still did not receive our order. We stood there an extra 20 min and saw some people who ordered after us get what we ordered so we asked one of the workers about our order and she just ignored us because she was busy. We finally got someone to check on our order and it turns out they had completely forgotten about us and had our order in the fridge the entire time. Our smoothie was completely melted and separated so you'd think they would remake it to give us what we paid for but nope, they just handed us the liquid smoothie and didn't even apologize. They did remake the soufflé since they gave ours to someone else and I would have given two or three more stars if I liked it but it was very small and unsatisfying for the price and honestly nothing special. Couldn't even finish the drinks because it was gross and the boba was hard. If they had sincerely apologized for the 45 min wait or forgetting us or at least giving us what we paid for instead of handing us melted separated drinks that was obviously below their standards then I would have given three stars but they just wanted to get rid of us since they were busy, so I have nothing positive to say and will not be coming back. read more
