Captains Dave and Rene communicated well with us including instructions where to meet and we took a 4 hour boating trip to Little Tybee and surrounding area. Rene came shell hunting with us and she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the types of shells, the environment, and the wildlife/ birds that are in the area. Dave shared history of the island and marsh as he guided the boat through the waterways. My husband and I were very impressed by their knowledge and welcoming demeanor. They were SO knowledgeable about the area and such fun to chat with on a beautiful March day. We went to two different beaches, and Jamie helped us find probably 40 shark teeth of all sizes. It was amazing - I truly cannot believe we found so many. On the second beach, Malcolm showed us the coolest fossils I never would've even noticed, like a camel tooth from thousands of years ago and bottles left over from the prohibition era. This is a must do for anyone who wants to learn about the Georgia coast and its barrier islands. Captain René really knows her stuff! We took a three hour private charter and saw dolphins, multiple types of birds, and landmarks. We also got to visit multiple areas of the island not easily accessible. We got to look for shells on a secluded beach. René was very knowledgeable and articulate about each wildlife/plant species as well as the geography/ecology of the area. WOW! What an experience! I went with a group of twelve 20- and 30-something's for a tour of Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge with Sundial Charters. Renee, David, and their team (boat drivers and a guide on WNWR) were knowledgeable, friendly, and made the day unforgettable! On a cold, but sunny Saturday morning in March we launched from near Tybee Island to head to Wassaw on two small boats. It took about half an hour to get there, a beautiful ride, stopping along the way to see a group of dolphins playing. Once on the island, we met our guide, Danny, who told us the whole history of the island and explained island wildlife and their habits. We hiked through the lush greenery and then made for the beach. Renee explained all sorts of shells and sealife. Along the way, we saw bald eagles, an alligator, and learned a ton! We decided to book a last minute "Little Tybee Unplugged" excursion with Sundial Nature Tours while visiting the island. It was a perfect ending to 2015 and the experience could not have been any better. Our captain/tour guide for the day was Rene who also handled setting up our reservation and providing the details on where to meet. The day starts off with getting picked right up at the beach. They have a cooler to store any beverages you want to bring on the trip as well as snacks. The boat is the perfect size to be able to get back into areas of Little Tybee that otherwise would be unreachable. Rene is an excellent guide and gave us excellent insight into the area and region whether that be the various bird species, to the tidal flow or the history and folklore about the area. Our highlight of the trip had to be when we parked the boat and went shelling on Little Tybee. We found tons of sand dollars and various shells. My wife and kids could have stayed out there all day. My son even found a message in a bottle, very cool. I highly recommend Sundial Nature Tours. Rene is a great guide and educator about the process of fossil hunting. We found some pretty cool fossils and a few other old items like bottles. We went to three different locations to try and find as many fossils as possible. The only reason this rating is not a five is because the boat itself is small and uncomfortable for the long ride to and from the beaches were we hunted. I ended up with a neck and back ache. Also, the boat did not have a ladder so it was difficult for some in our group to get in and out of the boat as often as we needed to. read more

I honestly do not think 5 stars is enough. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day for our 3 hour tour with Captain Rene and John who drove the boat. We no sooner left the dock when the dolphins started to appear everywhere. This was the first time for my 6 year old to be on a boat and see dolphins. The other sightings and outpouring of knowledge provided by Captain Rene were just an added bonus. In no way can we be thankful enough for the incredible time my kids had and for the memories they forever will have. We just loved going shell and sand dollar hunting on the sand bar and took good care to get them home. We got a 3 hour tour of Tybee Island. I believe our Captain's Name was Dave who is Rene's husband. He was fantastic! Very knowledgable on the history of Tybee Island and the eco system. Took us to a remote sand/island to collect shells. As we pulled up to the shore there were horseshoe crabs everywhere in the water. We spent about 45 minutes there while my wife and son collected shells. Spent the rest of the day wactching dolphins as they following the shrimp boats coming back to dock. Dave was awesome and if not for my sunburned face and back from spending too much time at the beach the previous day I could have done the trip all over again. read more

I went with a party of four on 9/16/19 and we had reserved the Little Tybee Unplugged. I was sooo excited about this charter, especially about going to Little Tybee and having time there to fossil hunt. It was an anniversary trip and I wanted it to be the unbelievable experience we have read about. Unfortunately, our day was good but not perfect and, as we were visiting from California, we won't get the chance to have a better experience. I give a generous four stars for the effort, though! We checked the weather regularly right up until the morning of the afternoon charter and never saw any rain or issues scheduled. The directions to boarding were easy to follow, the boat was as seen in the pictures and Dave was friendly and unbelievably knowledgeable. We saw dolphins right away (another thing we were really hoping for) and headed out to the intricate maze of waterways and marshes. We were really having fun, saw a bald eagle and other interesting birds and were about 20 minutes in when the captain thought a storm was coming. He had some radio activity but seemed like it was not clear what was going to happen so there was some issue with whether we should go all the way to Little Tybee. We heard lightening several times and the Captain said we would keep going to see what would happen in the next little bit and decide from there. He pointed out that once you get to far out, you can't make it back if the storm moves quickly. We waited and were hoping for something definitive but it all seemed so confusing, we never really got a straight answer as to whether the storm was scheduled to hit or not and the radio didn't seem to offer a conclusion one way or another. Thunder continued and the uncertainty was stressful and the radio chatter was loud and confusing. He thought it best that we head back and we agreed before we ever got to Little Tybee to explore or get out at the beach. Captain Dave filled the time up for us by driving back and forth in the bay we launched from and we appreciated that because we did get to see several more dolphins and he did his best to keep things entertaining. We never received any rain or storm as it turns out but it was too late to go back out. We were hoping for some relaxing time to sit and have a beer but it was more of a brilliant lesson on nature and waterways in that area than we expected. I think being really clear about when you would like to just relax would be helpful and we were not clear about that, as I look back. It was a good day and a lot of valuable information but I would say that you should do more research into the weather, if at all possible. Don't trust google or basic forecasts, make sure you look specifically for storms that might hit Tybee and use an advanced source. Had we done so, we may have seen the storm that never materialized and maybe made the choice not to go out if we knew there was a good chance we weren't going to actually get to Little Tybee. We enjoyed our time but it's a pretty big expense if you never make it to the beach to fossil hunt so do your research. Hopefully, you get a day with no bad weather or thunder masquerading as bad weather and you can get to Little Tybee and give this lovely charter five stars! read more

Capt. John and our guide Aubrey were the PERFECT team for our fossil/ shark teeth hunting trip. Capt. John piloted our boat into each beach with ease. Aubrey (Capt. Rene's son) found our first sharks tooth within 10 seconds of stepping off of the boat. He helped us find about 30 sharks teeth, one of perfect quality, as well as two Megalodon teeth.
