Karen has worked with me and my two pups, Charlie and Lucy, since they were about 1.5 years old. They are now almost 3 years old we continue to learn so much from Karen; at this point we think of her (and Dottie and Tater) as permenant members of our pack! As a trainer, what impresses me most about Karen aside from her professional/educational certificates and knowledge in her field, is her keen observational skills of both the human and the pups. Both of my pups live with various levels of reactivity toward humans and other dogs. Karen has taught me how to better understand their reactions and triggers, and how I can better manage their environment and my own behavior to set them up for success. Having Karen's guidance has made a huge positive difference in our lives.

We met Karen and her therapy dogs a few weeks ago in our search to help our 3 y/old child with Autism. We will do indoor/outdoor sessions and even pool sessions! She was very accommodating and she definitely helps build the foundation in helping our child improve her social skills. She has a very special skill set and we believe that with the right amount of patience and perseverance, this therapy sessions can definitely help open a lot of possibilities to help our child with all her fine/gross motor, sensory and OT needs. Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover Autism related therapies(sucks big time) so we are doing private pay services. We explained our situation to Karen and she will definitely work with you. We are very excited for our lil one and we look forward to more sessions with Karen and her awesome therapy dogs Dottie and Tater!

When I brought home my 6 week old Australian shepherd Kobe, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. With minimal dog training experience with a high maintenance breed, i felt that it was best to get my dog into some sort of basic puppy obedience training. The search for a dog trainer Was rather a stressful process. I had several consultations with popular dog training agencies, and most I've stumbled upon utilized methods such as E Collar training. Although I didn't exactly what I was looking for, these types of dog training methods didn't sit well with me. After a relentless search for a dog trainer right for Kobe and myself, I decided to contact the AKC family dog director who referred us to Sundog Therapy and needless to say I couldn't be more happy with the services provided by Kobe's trainer, Karen. She was very communicative, flexible and patient in educating us on reward based and positive reinforcement methods. Through these methods, I can now take my dog out in public to socialize with other people and other dogs without any insecurities. I would recommend Sun Dog Therapy to any family/friends in a heartbeat!

Ask the Community - SunDog Therapy

Does SunDog Therapy offer a one-time public event visitation where dogs are able to visit a school for students to come and pet the pups?

Hi Krystel, I do not offer one-time visits. I provide multi-session recreational/wellness programs or animal assisted therapy within occupational therapy interventions. It sounds like you are looking for a visit from volunteer therapy dog teams. You… Read more

Karen helped me get Chloe acclimated as she was leash reactive wanting to greet every dog we see on walks.

The person that took our boy in was a young man and we reviewed the nasty pad they had for the length of hair we wanted. Then we went over the face and they had a picture behind us of a Yorkie with his furry face. We told him yes we want his face just like that. They took him in and told us it'd be a couple of hours. When we returned to pick our boy up, he did not look even close to what they were supposed to do. They cut all of his hair off of his face so he looked like a Chihuahua and not a Yorkie. WTF???!!!??? really you could not follow the simple directions that we went over with you and spent so much time making sure you knew what to do and even wrote it down. They could not even follow their simple directions. I would not take my dog here anymore ever again or I would not recommend anybody bring their dog here for a Grooming because they don't know what they're doing and they don't even follow what was written down for them. Just a bunch of young kids learning to do Dog Grooming I think. Not very good at following any directions that they receive? Not at all. I would suggest going elsewhere for Grooming. It was that bad.

For grooming services…read more.. I chose PetSmart grooming after being told it was an affordable great reliable option--almost $25 less than my usual groomer--so I decided to give it a try. On Saturday, 12/13, we arrived for our 9:00 a.m. appointment. Upon walking in, we were not greeted until I initiated the interaction. One associate who had just finished assisting another customer did say good morning, but the groomer assigned to our appointment, Alexandria, approached in a noticeably sluggish manner, yawning and rubbing her eyes. There was no attempt to interact with my dog in a calm, friendly, or reassuring way. I previously worked in a veterinary setting and understand how important a gentle and positive approach is when handling animals. Unfortunately, the initial assessment felt rushed and rough. My dog--who is normally very sweet, playful, and has never shown aggression--reacted by growling, which immediately shocked me as she has never showed this. Right after, Alexandria stated she would not be able to groom my dog that day. When she handled her again, my dog reacted similarly, and I was told to bring her back another time. At that point, we left. Later that same day, I took my dog to my usual groomer, where she was handled without issue and groomed normally. This further confirmed that the reaction earlier was situational and related to the handling approach, not my dog's temperament. This experience was disappointing and inconvenient, as I had scheduled the appointment specifically so I could run errands in the area during the grooming, especially since this location is not close to my home. Additionally, both of my sons (19 & 12) independently commented on the groomer's demeanor and how uncomfortable the interaction felt, confirming that this was not just my personal perception. Ultimately, this experience reinforced why I am willing to pay more for proper, attentive care. I will be returning to my regular groomer, where my dog is handled with patience and kindness, and where I feel confident in the level of care she receives. In the end, paying a little more also means supporting a small business that consistently provides the quality and professionalism I value.
