We drove down this Saturday and had such a lovely time. We tried the Fried Calamari, Miso Salmon, Bayou Pasta, Mahi Fingers (comes with fries), and the Sunset Salad with added Mahi on top. Though we didn't get the Smoked Fish Dip, I highly recommend as we saw everyone around us ordering it and it looked FIRE. We also ordered a Mango Daiquiri and Key Lime Mojito for drinks and ended our day with a delicious Dulce de Leche Cheesecake. They also offer S'mores for 2 which comes in the cutest setup! Definitely something to try in the cooler months in Florida This restaurant offers great views and fresh food! If you're out on a boat, the restaurant has a dock where you can pull up and dock for a while while you eat. I would even say based on how prices have gone up in South Florida the food is really good at the price point. I thought our service was good too. Worst experience I've ever experienced at Sundowners in both service and food! After being seated it took over 30min to get anyone to take our order for drinks or even bring waters to the table. I had to go and get a waitress/waiter to take our order. Then it took almost an hour to get our meal which I again had to find someone to get our meal delivered. The food was of poor quality...it took a steak knife to cut the fish. Way over cooked! Recommend not eating here for a while they work on getting their kitchen squared away. We came and waited 15 minutes to sit down when there were plenty of empty tables. The waitresses seemed annoyed with all the tourists. The sunset is not direct, so I wouldn't call it sundowners I would call it partial sunset view. The key lime pie was delicious but the frozen drinks were absolutely disgusting, they were watery and had huge chunks of ice. It was such a disappointing drink. No fresh fruit and full of cheap sugar mixers/cheap "house" booze. read more

After several trips to this spot I have to the conclusion that they are just not good. So so food the first time , so so service the second time, and so so service and food on the last trip. But if you want overpriced mediocre food with being ignored by your server, this is the place for you The ambiance is ok at best as well. I know the mosquitos are bad everywhere, but I felt like I was donating blood by the end of my meal. If all you're interested is the sunset, hit the park up the street.... The sunset is free there (also, it's a beautiful park). Another disappointing point here were the drinks. Drinks that they brag about were blah. I have had better Pina coladas at a steakhouse in New Jersey. Over priced and honestly just not that good. Service was sub par. Waitress disappeared for a half an hour a the end of the meal. Some of us had water in our glasses while others never got refilled. There are so many great local spots to try, don't waste your time on this one. read more

I had the Mahi Rachel sandwich with Chile lime tater tots and my wife had a Caesar salad and Lobster bisque soup. The Mahi was way over-grilled and very dry - too bad, because it could've been a good sandwich; the tots were great. Decent food but awful service. Not sure I would return. Food: Mojo Chicken with Rice- literally the worst rice I've ever had. How can rice be under AND over cooked at the same time?? Mushy mound of rice with absolutely no flavor (unsalted) and the occasional crunch of raw ríce (yes raw- not crispy 'pegao' / 'con-con'). The chicken was fine but nothing special. Side of Yucca Fries - These were good. Crispy outside and great dipping sauce. Service: After the food arrived our waitress checked in once and we asked for water....but she never returned. 30 minutes later we were seated with empty plates and she still had not returned. We had to flag her down for the check (and the water), and then had to wait another ten minutes for her to come back with it. THE DRINKS: the bar was awesome. some of their specialty drinks included blended and FROZEN beverages like strawberry daiquiris, pina colada's and more! the drinks ranged from $10-$12 THE FOOD: pretty expensive...but typical of a place on the water! they had a variety of seafood, pastas and typical seaside bites like calamari and coconut shrimp. THE ATMOSPHERE: super FUN! they had live music going the entire time we were there. the artist was so talented and played songs from classics to new pop (from Queen to Harry Styles). Every time we go to the keys we make sure to stop at sundowners. It is one of my favorite restaurants in key largo and has the best food. The ambience is outstanding, right on the water. This past time it felt they were a little under staffed which happens from time to time but the new manager working really made up for it. He was very helpful and went around to check on a lot of the tables. This place also has the best key lime pie I've ever had in my life. 10/10 if you're looking for somewhere to go. read more

Came here this afternoon for a late lunch to enjoy some drinks by the water, Immediately was sat outside and received great service from the gentleman working. We ended up getting two margaritas(one regular and one spicy) the spicy one had several jalapeños in it but it was delicious! We patronized this gem in the heart of a storm, so they were able to seat us right away. We found a place on the deck and was able to watch the boats pass by in the night rain with the light clap of the shore in the background along with the steady drizzle against the roof and a cool breeze after a great day in the sun. I ordered and would recommend their Cadillac Margarita made with Don Julio tequila and Grand Mariner orange liqueur - priced low, and yet loftily crafted . She had the Mojito and sipped with a smile. The bacon wrapped scallops disappeared almost as fast as they arrived. The sweet sauce was an excellent compliment to the tender scallops wrapped in a well done bacon blanket. Tasty! The entrees arrived less than 17 minutes later. My coconut shrimp was hot out of the fryer with flakes so fresh they nearly melted in your mouth accompanied by a light and sweet sauce...not overpowering...the shrimp and coconut flavor remained. I asked for extra crispy fries and they did not disappoint. My wife tried the fried conch fritters for the first time...again, with a smile. Key Lime pie on a Graham cracker crust with a meringue topping for the finish. Tart and sweet...just how we like it! The ambience is relaxed, but the service is not. They are quick with a smile, fast with the food. They actually follow up afterward to ensure you are enjoying what they served.
