Sundowners was a real treat in many different ways. Food, service, drinks and view were all on point. The deck is definitely the way to watch the sunset, and the seafood-oriented menu hit the spot. Love the shrimp take on escargot (picture below), my husband had the oysters and loved them; I had the seafood combo that as you can see below was filled with seafood. The strawberry daiquiri was in my top all-time three. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and helped us make our food choices. A band came on to play around 7:00 which just added to the great vibe. Location is great for on the water spot. Came during "winter" so arrived around 430 sunset is at 530. There was plenty of tables opened. Hostess not so friendly. There was plenty of tables opened outside when I arrived but quickly filled up. There's an outside fake area grass to hang with friends play an outdoor game and two areas to sit outside. The music didn't really get started until actually sunset around 530 and hoped it was sooner then it got dark. The server was really and nice and friendly with a lot of things out of her control. I ordered the bbq ribs, they were already out of fries and baked potato, for a Sunday early afternoon this is unacceptable. I ordered the tater tots as I was really craving fries. The food came out fairly quickly and the food runners were mighty helpful. The ribs clearly stated came with coleslaw AND one side item. It didn't come with coleslaw and when I asked for it they tried to charge me for it $5 for three bites of coleslaw! The area is nice the server was super friendly but the kitchen needs work. Children's meal took longer than all adult meals and it was placed with drinks. First stop in the Keys and they don't disappoint. Staff was so friendly and our server Lorilei was very sweet, efficient and attentive. She even warned us to come inside after we finished our appetizers because it was about to rain, she didn't want us to not have a table and she was right, it poured shortly after. We came here to celebrate Mother's Day after much debate since we wanted somewhere with a nice view and what seemed like good food and ambiance. We were so thrilled to be seated immediately on the deck for the sunset in a big party with no wait. That was the highlight of our entire night. As soon as we sat down, we ordered drinks along with a soup, bacon wrapped scallops, and our kids meals so they would come out first. After an hour (it wasn't very busy considering the time and date) we still hadn't received not one thing. If you have kids, you know you need their food as soon as possible to make eating out an enjoyable experience. But to wait an hour for kids chicken fingers, fries, and a soup is insane. While waiting for our apps my husband decided to order the special of the day which was surf and turf. He likes his steak medium well so he spoke to the server to ask her recommendation (a lot of places will completely overcook if you order medium well) so she said that was the case here that she "knows her chefs" and recommended that he ordered medium to be safe. After about an hour, we finally get the apps, I take one bite of my bacon wrapped scallops and I was ehhh are they cold? No, they're raw. Completely threw off my meal. I was disgusted. I sent them back and didn't even want to try again. About another 20-30 mins later we get our entrees... my husband's steak is RARE... nowhere even near medium. I understand a mishap or maybe a busy day like a holiday... but serving basically raw food not once but twice? My husband was also disgusted because that's a huge jump from medium to rare. I ordered the shrimp and scallop pasta as my entree and it had absolutely no flavor. I added salt and pepper and still like nothing, and to be honest after that horrible raw scallop I was completely turned off and ready to go- I only stayed because we were in a big group. I don't even have pictures because I was so disappointed in the service and food that it was a real damper to a good Mother's Day. They did remove the steak and scallops off the bill (since we didn't eat either one). So basically I say all of this to say it's a nice view and NOTHING ELSE plus pretty expensive. This place was a-okay. We wanted somewhere to sit on the water, enjoy the weather, some drinks, and good food. We got almost all we wanted. Great patio right on the water and the food wasn't bad. Our table shared the conch fritters. The fritters themselves didn't have much flavor, but the dipping sauces made up for it. For my meal, I had the "Millionaire Steak Sandwich" with a side of mac & cheese. Again, it was good, but nothing to rave about. Dessert really raised the meal from a 3 to a 4. We have passed by this spot multiple times while at the keys and to be honest we only stopped the last time because we were starving! To our surprise we were seated right away outside, had a fantastic view of the ocean, the food was terrific, the drinks were ok (not the best not the worst we have had), I will definitely be back in the near future. read more

We were looking forward to the meal as we don't often venture down to the keys, but were mostly disappointed. Firstly, the pictures online do not match the menu items and do not accurately represent the food. A few of the oysters were also grey and shouldn't have been served. Additionally, one of the fish and vegetable entrees arrived with a long black hair, while another arrived with some of the produce stickers still on them (they had not been removed before cooking). Lastly, the key lime pie was inedible - it looked limp and tasted even worse. The best thing about our experience was the service as our server was very accommodating and attentive. I had one of the best times I've had in a long time at this restaurant. I wasn't a fan of the wait time to get seated but it was totally worth the wait. It was my first time there and unfortunately I didn't hear good things about it from the locals because they thought it was overpriced. But honestly I can't complain because I had some of the best sushi I've ever had in my life they're high quality fresh I did not get sick from eating it and I have to say it was very tasty. Now this place is not extremely cheap but it's definitely not expensive and if you consider the beautiful view that they have of the ocean and the beautiful location it is totally worth it. And most important of all they had the most talented musicians playing all your favorite cover songs from the 80s at night. Location is In front of the ocean, parking was very convenient. The bartenders are great and very attentive and they get you drinks fast even when it's really busy. The bartender who is African-American woman who works at the front bar when you walk in had the greatest personality of any lady I have met. She was funny and interesting and she even gave us two free olives when we asked for them.She had some local customers that said she's so great we've been coming and following her for 20 years wherever she works. Arrived at about 7:15 for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Asked for an outside table. We were told about a 25 min wait. Got seated on about 15 minutes. While we waited we ordered a drink from the bar. Excellent service and excellent drink. When were seated things started to go downhill rapidly. I will spare most of the details but here are some low points. Ordered 2 appetizers. 1 cocktail. Waited about 30 minutes for cold substandard food. While we're waiting for our appetizers our waitress asked if we would like to order dinner. We did. About 1 hour later we asked about our order. We were told it was coming. We asked about y the soup we ordered and the waitress asked in a a surprised tone if we wanted our sour soup before the main course!! The food came out at about the 2 hour mark. after that encounter. All cold. Butter would not melt on the baked potato. All the French fries were cold. We complained. Manager listened and then said sorry. We did not pay for this disaster. The manager understood. NEVER AGAIN. UPDATE: I have been informed that 2 cooks and 1 waiter/waitress failed to to come to work on the day of this review. I will adjust my rating to 3/5. read more

Food was very good...we had calamari, chicken wings, coconut shrimp, sweet potato fries and oysters. Along with beer, wine, and mojitos.The place was packed. The sunset glorious. Parking was adequate but good to get there early on a weekend especially if a band is playing. The bar is large and has lots of barstools which were very comfortable. My husband and I walked over to this restaurant from a local place we were vacationing at. The restaurant has higher rated reviews on Google versus Yelp that I didn't realize until we already got there. We were told a table for 2 was an hour wait around 7:45 PM on a Saturday night. At first, they didn't even take our name for the reservation and we went back to the staff to give them our name. There was a gentleman selling kitschy jewelry outside of the front doors. I'm noticeably pregnant and was resting my feet, sitting on the only bench in front of the restaurant. The seller didn't seem to care that I was pregnant and started to smoke in his vehicle parked next to me. I had to get up and stand the rest of the time next to the waterfront to get away from the smoke. The seating staff was a mess. After waiting for an hr, they started calling other names, and we were the only people waiting outside. We stated the name our reservation was under and they said, "Oh, we were looking for you!" But we had never moved from the front of the restaurant and would've heard our name if they had called it. We finally got seated outside and had a small table right next to the water. It was already nighttime and there wasn't sufficient lighting by our table. After being seated by our waitress she left us without a menu and only 1 plate and 1 set of utensils. She came back later w/ menus. My husband ordered a filet mignon w/ mac n cheese, and I ordered a chicken BLT w/ fries. The food took nearly an hour to reach our table, but we thought because of my husband's order it was reasonable. Yet, my husband's mac n cheese was served cold, meaning it had been waiting around for a long time after being plated. My sandwich was tasty, but I could tell the chicken and fries had been cooled off for a while after being cooked. Our server came around asking us if we wanted more water but only returned about half an hour later to fill our cups. We were looking forward to trying out their dessert menu but we were very unsatisfied w/ the staff and service we just wanted to leave ASAP. read more

Quick waterfront seating for 4, drinks are good. Cadillac Margaritas are strong & also heavy on sour mix. Lunch took well over 1hour, all requested substitutions were not received but were noted and charged. We waited as 6 other tables around received their meals and left as we and the kids patiently waited. Mahi was a nice size but not served as requested. Hogfish was also a nice size serving but not as requested, served as grilled not blackened. Parking was quick and easy with help from the parking attendant. This place was amazing and my boyfriend and I can't wait to come back! The views of the water were absolutely stunning and the service couldn't be better. Everyone was super warm and welcome. There is a ton of parking, very easy to get seated even on a busy Saturday and the best part is they have picnic tables and corn hole if you'd like to stay and hang out. If you come here you HAVE to get the key lime seafood. The dish comes with a half of a lobster tail, a lot of shrimp and shredded blue crab meat. The fish was all mixed in with tobasco lime butter sauce. It was just the perfect hint of spice all mixed over jasmine rice. I am still dreaming of this dish. We also shared the lobster bisque which had great flavor and the sushi rolls were to die for!! Can't wait to go back there on my next trip to the keys. Brett, the server at the outside bar, is this place's Only Saving Grace!!!! He was Phenomenal! The hostess was incredibly rude to my friend when he politely asked if it was possible to transfer the appetizers to our table ticket. The look on her face was atrocious (it was as if I threw a bucket of cold water on her)...... The waiter we got sat with was Vincent....I then asked if he could check if our appetizers were put in yet (since our table was called right as we were ordering) and if he could move them to out table ticket and we would make sure that Brett was compensated appropriately. He said it couldn't be done and we would have to check ourselves. My friend then asked for a sour beer recommendation and Vincent snapped back with, "I'm really just a Bud Light kinda man." We both ordered a drink and were served promptly....the server saw me snapping a pic of the food caught under the sleeve of the menu and said, "Oh No" and then quickly walked away.... (I could only assume at that point he was telling his manager what he had observed).... Moments later Vincent asked if we knew what we wanted as a main course and I guess we didn't answer promptly enough; we were told, "ok y'all aren't hungry yet, I'll be back." I was going to ask about the specials....but wasn't given a chance before he high tailed it away from us. Shortly after that Brett brought us our bar close out and we relayed how pleased we were with his customer service and he offered to take us as his own table and we immediately said, "Yes, Please!" The manager showed up right after Brett walked away and asked us how everything was and we relayed what had happened and told him that Brett wad his RockStar and definitely needed a Raise. We had a really special night here: one of the most gorgeous sunsets I have ever seen (dozens of great photos), we got there early enough to sit right on the edge and watch the sun dip over the boaters, birds, and docks. The post-sunset glare was spectacular. The meal was generous and fililng, the whole yellowtail snapper (fried with great chunks of meat flaking off), a shrimp salad, and artichoke appetizer (this was difficult to eat, 90% very rough, but we licked off the small amount of pulp best possible) Finally the Key Lime pie was the best I ever had, a huge amount of tangy merangue. Atmosphere, food, and service all came together for a rare stunning evening of nature and food, I got a local art piece on the bar on the way out as well. read more

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I use to go to the "Big Chill" which is the "hyped" location next door; however, over the years it drastically changed. The food, drinks, and customer service is just horrible. Sundowners has always been consistent with the aforementioned traits, and still strives to improve and make adjustments. This is right on the water, which who wouldn't love. It is a bit on the pricier side. Their food and drinks were awesome though. My meal was bought by a friend, so I could be a bit biased. The conch fritters tasted like they had a bit too much breading. I ordered the scallops and filet tips. Good size scallops and tips. The sweet potato side was well seasoned. My boyfriend bought the hogfish special and was in heaven! He couldn't stop raving about it. The Key Lime Pie dessert was standard and up to par with the rest of the Keys. Cannot recommend at all for dining. The wait time is horrible and the staff is overworked. We spent over two hours waiting between a first drink order to get a plate of food that was poor quality seafood. Won't ever be back. We ignored the warnings written by other yelpers that the wait times were bad because we wanted to enjoy the location on the water, but in hindsight we should have heeded the advice. For our second round of drinks we had to get up and go to the bar because the server never would check back on the table(s). The food and service was just not that great for the prices charged, I feel bad for the employees. I would only recommend coming to this location and sitting near the bar for drinks and maybe an appetizer, so you can enjoy the view. Avoid sitting down for regular dining. I waited a few days to write this review because I was so incensed at the overpriced very poor dining experience, but wanted to ensure others understand what they are in for. Again, go there for a drink, but avoid the sit-down dinner. This place needs a management and quality of food overhaul, period. To the consumer, you've been forewarned. read more
