Volkswagen EOS Check Engine Light Repair Last week the check engine light came off my Volkswagen EOS. I needed to first know what was the problem, and see how much will it cost to repair. A friend recommended Sundwrenched Auto Works. I called Thursday, set up the appointment for Friday afternoon. The code was P0171 -System Too Lean, that is related to a leak. The technicians performed a smoke test in order to identify where the leak was coming from. There were 2 hoses involved, both with cracks where you can see the smoke coming through. They ordered the parts and completed the installation of the new hoses while I waited. Everyone was professional and friendly (including Tucker, the puppy). I was happy to have the code cleared, and my car repaired in 2 hours. Thanks! read more

Our car literally died in the middle of the "In-and-Out" drive-through, just around the corner of Sundwrenched Motor Werks. Broken belt caused the alternator to stop charging the battery so the car just stopped running. Hungry customers behind us helped push our 1999 Toyota Camry through the line, one car length at a time. Two happened to be mechanics with suggestions on where to tow our car. By the time I inhaled my burger and fries, the AAA flat truck arrived. With NO MONEY in my bank, I searched high and low for our best option. I called Pepboys, over $180, Dealership quote, $220, this after the two mechanics said the fix should easily be under $100. After being calm from the get-go, I'm now starting to panic with the car on the flatbed and no where to take it. We were blocking several cars from getting out and one of the owners asked if he could help (I think he just wanted us to move the tow truck so he could back out. I forgot his name but he told us to take it to Sundwrenched Motor Works, "just around the corner" he said with a smile. I jumped on Yelp to get the directions and saw positive reviews, a relief. Two and a half minutes later we are dropping the car off. I filled out the overnight drop-off folder, inserted the keys, and slid the envelop through the door. Next day, I get a call from one of the owners and I was ready for a fight, a pricing dual, or even worse, an up-sell manifesto totaling over $500 dollars. Instead, he was the nicest guy in the world. He examined the problem and recommended doing both belts, all for under $100. Exactly what the mechanics said I should pay for just the one belt. I have been looking for a really good mechanic and I think we struck gold. I found an AMAZING mechanic in Santa Ana from Yelp and he saved me over $4000 in repairs on my 2005 Jetta (Money pit, I'll NEVER buy a VW again). Now I have my favorite local mechanic and will bring all my cars, and refer all my friends to Sundwrenched. I need to ask them what that name means? My rating: 10 out of 10 stars. A++ read more

I have been very impressed with Chris Brown and the other guys at Sundwrenched Motor Werks lately. They have worked on all four of my cars recently. Chris has been quick to correctly diagnose the issues and propose the right solution. He has taken on jobs for me that other mechanics didn't want to tackle. His trouble shooting skills are very impressive, and he gets right to work and completes them in a very timely fashion. He is great at communicating and always quotes me an estimate first. His fees are very reasonable. I have a 2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali that was getting 9 MPG, and Chris worked his magic and now it's getting 15 MPG and runs great! Also, Chris has done amazing work on my 2012 Range Rover lately, as well as my 2006 Cadillac Escalade. Also, he just did a lot of great work on my 2006 GMC Yukon XL Denali as well, fixing problems that were difficult to solve. He is the "go to" guy right now, in my opinion. read more

I came to Sundwrenched Motor Werks because many neighbors recommended them for their honesty, integrity, and good work. Originally there was a strange noise coming from under my hood. I also needed an oil change, tune up, new brake pads, and wanted to clean my headlights. Chris was very helpful and let me know right away that the strange noise was my alternator. After looking at my car, Chris advised me of a few things that he recommended I fix now and a few things that he said could wait but that he wanted me to be aware of. Apparently they are under new ownership and are just as good if not better than before. They are courteous, friendly and professional. I was in and out within 45 minutes for a full oil service that included all inspections and the price was very competitive, especially compared with a dealer. One thing I like is that they do not try and sell or over sell you. If you wait, they have a waiting area along with some snacks. If need to wait longer, there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. read more

I had a problem with my C6 Vette. They figured out it was my shifter snd researched it while I waited. A couple of weeks later I went in and they replaced it along with an unexpected dead battery. Everyone here is super friendly and always ready to help out. Great customer service. My car battery died on a Sunday evening and I called Chris (apologized to bother him on a Sunday evening), but he was still willing to help me out. I had my car jumped the next morning and he said I could bring it straight in to take care of it. Also, earlier on Sunday I went to Autozone for a battery test and they said it was just fine but obviously it wasn't since it continued not to start. When I got to Sundwrenched Motor Werks on Monday morning Chris showed me the battery test as he did it and it was in fact a dead battery. He also found out that it was still under warranty so it didn't cost me very much out of pocket to complete everything. I highly recommend Chris and all the staff here. Bill is awesome! First experience, asked him to hook that decoder machine to find out why check engine light was on. I forget what the code was but he said the fix is normally cover under warranty so he sent me off to dealer. Second experience, broken door handle. Quoted me for part plus hour of labor to fix. Come in to pick it up and tells me got it done sooner than the quoted labor and gave me price break. Now how many mechanics are that honest. Under NEW ownership, They are EXPENSIVE. This place is there to suck every dime out of you, $110 for a synthetic oil change, Walmart charges around $60. Got a price quote for a brake job( $600+), Pep boys gave me a quote for around $400, I checked other mechanics in the area they charge between $400 + tax. Just bought a 1970 Bronco and wanted it checked out by someone local so I found Sundwrenched who were highly rated on Yelp. Called and asked if they could fully check out the vehicle and they said could. Brian called me back after about 4 hrs and indicated the engine was running strong and he didn't need to do the tune-up I requested. They went though an extensive review of all the systems in the car and found various area's needing attention and fixed them at a very reasonable cost! I first called Ken to explain problems I had with my radiator and he was extremely patient on the phone and did a very thorough price estimate before I brought my car into his shop. It turns out that my car had bigger problems that I thought and Ken went above and beyond by doing additional research and found a Technical Service Bulletin from 2011 and even printed it for me and provided a recommendation for another shop that could handle the bigger job. Sundwrenched is two guys, co-owners and master mechanics with a lot of experience. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them. Nothing. The first problem I brought my car in for turned out to be a mechanical problem under a power train warranty which would only be paid if it was serviced by the dealership. They took the car to a nearby dealership, had it done, brought it back... all to save me the trouble. When the only thing they were actually getting paid for was an oil change. The second issue was a gearshift linkage problem (worn out bushings) for which Cadillac just wants to sell you an entire replacement assembly. The Sundwrenched guys said this was ridiculous, and had custom bushings fabricated for half the price. Now the car shifts better than it did with stock parts. These gentlemen know exactly what they are doing, and they care about earning their customer's repeat business, both by doing good work, and by doing it inexpensively. Highly recommended. EDIT: I do actually have one small complaint. They aren't open weekends, which makes it very hard to actually bring my vehicle in for regular maintenance, since whenever they are at work, I am, too. Given that it's only two guys, and they have lives and families and whatnot, this is understandable. But if I were in their shoes I would at least experiment with one person taking a Friday-Saturday weekend, and the other a Sunday-Monday one, so they can capture that weekend business. read more
