The 2 chicken dishes - one with sticky rice and the other white rice - were only so-so in flavor. The broccoli seemed frozen. The white rice was very dry, like it had been cooked days ago. Two other entrees, standard Thai dishes, took so long the whole place emptied out before our friends got their food. We should have known when we ordered one of the specials and the server said, "I'll check if we have it in stock." Although she said there were 2 cooks, the entire meal seemed like rewarmed frozen food. There was no offer to make it right when our friends' food came so late, even after I asked what happened. read more

I did not know about this spot until I began doing delivery driving and then I discovered this is here, that they would always have my orders accurate and fast plus that they seemed pretty empty yet open till 4am! My friend I go out with more is a vegan so I love going to places where we both have a lot to chose from. We were both excited. At first I thought the guy behind the counter was abrupt but I suspect he is just resting angry face since he even said goodbye specifically to us when he was leaving after he was off and another person clearly was taking over for the later shift. He was super helpful though answering our many questions since nether of us had been there before. We ordered way too much food knowing we were going to be swimming in leftovers so we ordered good items for that. They have a specials board so I ordered heir orange chicken from that as I did not see it on the menu. I am super picky and this was some of the best orange chicken I have had. Their coating is so good and unique - perfectly crispy... And then the sauce is that perfect not syrup yet also not an assault on you with citrus like some are. I was amazed! I also got the shrimp salad rolls and their chicken satay. It was all delicious with gloriously tasty peanut sauce. And I had crazy leftovers I am still working through. I do have to also say that their prices are great too! Their location is excellent and I have not ever had an issue grabbing parking though I also have not been there during what could be an issue. Once more into the... kitchen? seats? something. Sunee is proximate to Revolution Hall and we had an event there so once again it was time for a visit. This time, as part of our continuing quest to find the best Thai beef salad (yum nua) around, my partner had their very delicious rendition, and I being slightly less adventurous had the chicken panang curry. The venue was full of other show-goers, with a wide collection of concert tees covering about 40 years; the tables weren't all full but full enough to keep the server hopping. Despite that, we were waited on and served promptly and with great friendliness. The panang curry was super tasty, spiced to perfection. The yum nua was very tasty but lacking the crunchy crust from a super hot sear, leaving the interior of the meat very rare. Other than that, it was delicious. Once again, highly recommended. We had two entrees , one came out at least 15 minutes after the first. Drinks came out after food and after a table who was sat after us was given theirs. (It was a beer and wine...not hard.). The waitress didn't check on us, was MIA or sitting and talking with friends . When asked for a box, gave one that was way too small for what was left and then, when I shared my concerns, gave an excuse for the poor service that they had a lot of online orders- though the dining room had 3 tables. The ambiance was cute and it's great that they're opened so late; however, the SERVICE was awful. The two girls working hid in the back on their phones most of the time. Asking for ice water looked like such an inconvenience to them. I don't understand how my food came AFTER 3 other groups ordered AFTER me. On the corner of Stark and 14th, Sunee Thai offers both Thai and Lao dishes. I got takeout recently and enjoyed the meal. We got noodles and a curry. Most items can be made vegetarian. They ask how spicy you want the dish on a scale of 1-5. I don't remember what I chose but I do remember thinking it wasn't as spicy as I'd like. So maybe add 1-2 on top of your initial thought. Staff was friendly during our brief interaction. The restaurant was empty since I arrived at the start of dinner service, but the atmosphere was pleasant. This place is solid! We were staying at an airbnb nearby in walking distance and visited more than once in the handful of days we were in Portland! Arriving from the east coast around 1am the first night, we figured we would give it a shot due to proximity and hours of operation. We ordered masaman curry, drunken noodles, Tom kha soup, spring rolls, and chicken satay. All of the dishes came out piping hot, delicious, and appropriately spicy for the levels we ordered (considering this is a common gripe of other reviews). Second time we visited after a night out, we got pad see eww, a different curry , and the tom yum, and again, all were delicious. Service was reasonably fast for the time of night and seemingly only one person taking orders and one person (potentially even the person taking orders) cooking. He put extra peanuts in my dish as I asked and gave me another cup of peanuts in case he didn't do "extra" enough for me. FOOD Pad Thai level 5 spice 9/10 Incredibly juicy and filled with so many textures, it was fresh out and the spice was perfect for a level 5 spice. It came with mini chili peppers which seemed intimidating but that was the most unique part of the dish. You eat your noodles and bite the peppers--it's very mildly spicy and gives a burst of a bright spice into the noodles. The gave us the wrong order. The waiter was apologetic and went and had them put a rush the order. When they came back with the lemongrass chicken. It was obviously the kitchen staff was upset. The plate of food had dry chicken but the vegetables were not cooked at all. It was bizarre. With barely any sauce on it. We left and are going to go home to cook the vegetables because the mushrooms on it are raw and the broccoli is crunchy. I basically paid 20 dollars for a plate of cut up raw veggies. For the purpose of not writing an unkind review, and something more constructive, I will say: 1) Happy there is Thai food open very late at night - the main drive for me choosing to go to this spot. The people that work here, and the people that own the place are also incredibly kind, and genuine and it's a big part of what drives my rating for the place. 2) It hurts me to say that the food is just ok. It does the trick when you've had some drinks at night and need something to fill up with, but besides that, it's not great Thai food. - Hardly any green onion - if green onion is added, it's raw and uncooked (when ordering Pad Thai) - no Thai Chili's (red chili's) when you request spicy food - no crushed peanuts, shredded cabbage, or bean sprouts in pad Thai. 2) Thai Curry - I don't know what is missing but I think what they're doing is not adding fish sauce (or not enough) and they're adding too much coconut milk. It seems like it's become more focused on becoming a late night fast food restaurant than being focused on making tasty authentic Thai Food. I really appreciate the people that work at this location and hope they're able to get someone in the kitchen that is passionate about sharing their authentic home cooked Thai food with everyone! read more
