My experience with Sunergy started well. Their initial installation and later expansion of my system was nearly flawless. But soon after, my system frequently kicked me off the grid whenever I charged my Tesla. When I talked to the owner of the company, Chris Hammerstone, he found that the amperage of thecircuit breaker needed to be increased and promised to do so. I have only negative things to say about them. I will spare you the details, but heed this warning. If things go well, you may get a good system, as some reviewers are reporting, but if there are any problems at all, they will screw you. There are multiple Federal and State complaints against them. I signed a contract with Sunergy in early August 2025. I planned to get solar installed before the solar energy tax credit ended. The sales representative said the job including PTO would likely be done in October and assured me that it would be done before December 31. It is now late July 2026. The permit was submitted to the Buildings Department in October 2025 and I still do not have an installation date. I have over 40 single spaced pages of communications (email, text, phone) with various representatives from Sunergy, but I will not bore with details. Here are the main takeaways: First, the amount of turnover at a company is incredible. I have had 7 project managers. Unsurprisingly, I have to restart from scratch with each project manager because they do not seem to have a record keeping system. Second, they do not pay attention to details. I had to raise concerns about their proposed design which would not have worked for my property on three separate occasions. Each time, I had to raise the same concern and they reacted as if this was the first time they heard about it. This issue is related to point #1 above. Third, their communication is excellent when they want you to pay for a milestone. Once you pay, most project managers and senior leaders are unresponsive. Fourth, they obfuscate and employ delay tactics. I have been told since October that my installation date is just around the corner. They are sticking with this line even now. I asked how they determine where a job lands in their queue. They insist the primary criteria is how past-due a contract is. I asked how many contracts are more past-due than my own (~1 year). They refuse to tell me. They also say it is impossible to provide a firm installation date because there are "so many factors" to consider. I suspect they are either prioritizing jobs that have a larger margin or are nearing bankruptcy and stringing people along until they go belly up. Fifth, some of their representatives knowingly lie. For instance, in October, I was given a choice: 1) stick with the original panels and install in 2026 with a workaround involving a third-party company to receive the tax credit, or, 2) install another kind of solar panel by December. I chose the latter because I did not want to deal with a third party company. In late December, I was told they never had the other panels in stock and that I must proceed with option #1 with assurance that installation would occur by February or March. The failure to install the panels on the planned installation date in late April is an even more egregious example of an outright lie. The day before installation, the weather forecast predicted rain. I wrote them to ask what would happen if it rained. Should I still expect the panels to still be dropped off in my driveway? When would installation be rescheduled? A couple days later they called and used the rain as an excuse but subsequently said they needed to work out some more details. They clearly did not have the technicians or materials to install on that day and never informed me until after the installation date. Obviously, three months later and I still do not have a new installation date set. I now have a responsive project manager, but that person is just the messenger. Their senior team continues to make excuses and I am no closer to getting an installation date than I was in mid-October 2025. I WOULD NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS COMPANY. ZERO STARS IF I COULD. read more

UPDATE: It has now been almost a year since we signed our solar contract, and we still do not have an operational system with PTO. Please see my previous review for the full timeline. Over the past several months, I have made numerous attempts to work directly with Sunergy to reach a reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, communication has been inconsistent, and many of my emails and requests for updates have gone unanswered. The project has involved repeated delays, design revisions after installation, missed commitments, and multiple return visits to my property. As a result, my roof has sustained damage that is still being addressed, and my solar panels are currently sitting off the roof while the project remains incomplete. I have attempted to speak with company leadership, including requesting communication with the owner, Chris Hammerstone, but have been unable to do so. My experience with management has been extremely disappointing. At this point, I have exhausted every reasonable effort to resolve this matter directly. I am now exploring additional avenues to bring attention to this situation, including consumer advocacy and local media outlets. Sunergy - Current situation 6/2026 almost a year since we signed our contract. Installation started in November 2025 - Solar Installation Near Me - Lake Forest, California

Do not use this company! They are a scam! I signed a contract with them, put a 1K$ deposit. They got fast track approval and then came after me for 1/2 the remaining. They proposed installing a battery directly over my water line to the house. This goes against city code. I have repeatedly requested they come out and look at the property, but the project manager refuses. This company does not know what they are doing and almost 6 months into a project I have paid over 50% for, has done nothing. This is a scam! Stay away from them! read more

Do not use this company - they will take your money and not complete the job. 1 year later I am dealing with a job site abandonment - they have repeatedly scheduled an electrician to finish the last part of the job, and they have repeatedly no-showed the day of the appointment at least four or five times. And it wasn't just this forever-pending step, every step along the way was the same experience - appointment cancellations and reschedules and no-shows. This is a company that has been a bear to coordinate just to get the hardware physically installed (after chasing them through multiple appointment reschedules and their own supply chain problems) but has yet to deliver a working solar system. The fact that online directories for solar companies like EnergySage recommend them is a joke - it means you can't trust those vendor matching services either. Do your research, save your money and time, and don't use Sunergy. It's as simple as that. read more

Final update: After the CSLB had a conversation with Sunergy, and after many, many follow -up emails from me, Sunergy finally refunded the full amount minus the deposit and permitting fees.That is a reasonable end to a ridiculous, unprofessional, aggravating, ethically suspicious, non-compliant, confounding 10-month ordeal. Including fees I paid a lawyer, I'm out $2100 and have no solar. But I am now familiar with my rights as a consumer and I know how to evaluate if a contract is compliant with the state business code.‍ Do not recommend. read more

I want to share my experience with Sunergy so others can make an informed decision. Our project took nine months from contract to PTO, and the process was far more stressful and complicated than it needed to be. When we signed, Sunergy told us that projects typically take 2-4 months. They also emphasized weekly updates, in-house installers, and guaranteed equipment availability. Those were major reasons we chose them. Unfortunately, almost none of those expectations were met. The design phase was slow and disorganized. I received conflicting updates from different project managers. Despite being told we would receive weekly updates, there were multiple periods where I went weeks without any updates from Sunergy and often received no response to my inquiries. Permitting was another major issue. I eventually discovered that Sunergy did not have an active license with the City of Torrance, which delayed the permit submission by seven weeks. I ended up going to the city myself to get the permit because Sunergy could not move it forward. A week before installation, Sunergy told me the panels I originally contracted for were not available. They offered me a lower-efficiency model or the option to wait. Because it was already late December and delaying the installation would have jeopardized my eligibility for the federal tax credit, I felt I had no real choice but to accept the downgraded equipment. On installation day, I learned the crew was mostly subcontractors, even though Sunergy had repeatedly told us they only used in-house installers. Some of the behavior from the installation crew was unprofessional and included pressure tactics that made the situation uncomfortable. The most serious issue happened later. Sunergy activated the system without PTO. When SCE came out for the inspection, they found a backfeed issue that they said could be dangerous. The system had been running that way for six weeks. SCE shut everything down and removed the meter collar. It took another month before the issue was resolved and PTO was finally approved. I understand there was an industry-wide end-of-year demand spike, but the major issues we experienced were not caused by that. They were the result of Sunergy's poor management, licensing delays, and lack of customer focus. The system is working now, but the amount of miscommunication, delays, and broken commitments throughout the project made this a very difficult experience. UPDATE: Installee came and left a few days after my initial review because the installation was harder than he was told it would be which makes sense since there was no site survey or engineering assessment despite what the contract promised. In fact, the 3rd party installer admitted to us that our complaints about Sunergy were neither novel nor misplaced (i.e., he had similar experiences with other Sunergy customers)! We sent a cancellation letter and prelitigation letter. Sunergy refused to give us 100% of our refund back. We had to get an Attorney involved and escalate it to litigation. What a scam company. Stay far away from them. They will take your money and do absolutely nothing meaningful. read more

Permits approved January, was promised an installation date of Match, and now in June still not a peep about when the system would even be installed, all the while they've been sitting on a bunch of my cash. I wish I had gone with a different installer! Last time I got solar I used Silverline Solar, and everything went smoothly right on schedule.. Frustrating and deeply disappointing experience with Sunergy. From the very beginning, the company has been disorganized, misleading, and unprofessional. During contract negotiations, we were given multiple verbal assurances that were not honored. We specifically asked for a site inspection before design work began (something all other solar companies we contacted offered )and were told it would happen. However, three weeks after signing the contract (and after numerous phone calls and emails), we were suddenly told it would cost an extra $500 and cause additional delays. Instead, they reassured us that "satellite images" were sufficient and a site visit wasn't necessary. When the initial design finally came in, it was full of errors and incompatible with our actual roof layout. We had to go up on the roof ourselves, take measurements, draw diagrams, and essentially fix the design; something we expected the professionals we hired to do. It has become clear that Sunergy is just a middleman, outsourcing all of the actual design and planning work. Nobody we've dealt with seems to have the full picture. We've been passed between many different representatives, none of whom communicate with each other. All we hear is that "notes have been left on the account," but it's obvious no one reads or acts on them unless we follow up on every single step. Despite the city moving quickly on permit corrections (3 weeks), Sunergy has taken over 3 months for the permitting process and still hasn't submitted a final design to the city that could be approved by plan checkers. Two rounds of corrections, and they take weeks to make fixes and updates. So haven't even received our permit yet, and we're extremely concerned about the installation timeline and the risk of missing the end-of-year deadline -- something we were clear about from the beginning to ensure we qualify for full federal incentives. We were also very clear about the type of panels we wanted to instal ( REC ) . Since we had heard from other companies that those panels are out of stock for the rest of the year and nobody should promise installing those, I specifically raised this concern with the sales guy we were talking with, Tyler Baker. He said we didn't need to be concerned because they have "a special relationship" with the manufacturer and are receiving two large shipments. He said he would guarantee that REC is the type of panels we are going to get. Now I see in some reviews that they have told other customers those panels are out of stock. If we eventually get to the installation stage with Sunergy and we hear the same thing, it would be yet another false promise and deceitful statement they have made to us just to get us to sign a contract with them. How they'll manage to maintain and service the system under warranty is an even bigger concern, given the lack of coordination we've already seen. If you're considering going solar and value communication, accountability, or a smooth process, we strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I worked with Sunergy on a San Diego solar installation on my condo. Overall results were mixed, but I do not recommend working with them. Synergy is essentially a financing and project management company. Engineering design was subbed out to Enphase who apparently does design work for free if you're using their equipment. It took three revisions of the design to get it right. Each revision took about a month. I reviewed the drawings myself as it appeared. The Engineering was passed straight to me without reviewed by Sunergy. Installation was done by a third-party subcontractor. Be installing installation. Contractors were probably the best part of the project. They were open,communicative, honest and did an overall good clean job on the installation. I did even have one residual issue with the insulation in that the consumption transformers were installed on the incorrect wires. The original installation contractor denied there was a problem and was unable to fix it. After a complaint to Sunergy, a different subcontractor came out and corrected the problem in about 15 minutes. I was promised one point of contact in project manager assigned to my project. However, communication was consistently poor and consistently through different individuals in the organization. At one point, I had to email all of about a contacts that I had at the company in order to get a response to an email inquiry. The company waited six weeks after completion of the physical installation to submit my PTO paperwork to San Diego, gas and electric. Final fiasco came with the final invoice which was written written in the wrong amount. When I refuse to pay until PTO was received, I was reminded that the contract says final payment due on installation completion to which I responded installation completion means that the system is legally allowed to operate. I refuse to pay until I had PTO which actually came in a few days later. I would not recommend this company for your solar project. read more

At the start of this journey communication was great and information was thorough. Got calls from techs and reps to ensure i got all the info i need to go for the install. Follow up was great when I had questions about the system going live and some technical issues between the install and Enphase. Couple months later, hard to get a hold of anyone due to multiple reasons: staff changing, no return calls or emails, direct contact. Only when I reached out for another referral or install did I get replies (moving and was hoping to get a quote). Recently been trying to contact anyone to know how to get information about the warranty/ coverages for the roof but again crickets. Very frustrating overall. Would be 1 star or less but the experience to getting the system installed and running was fairly easy and system still runs great. Anything after is a bit of a disappointment read more

Like many customers, I wanted to take advantage of the 30% Federal Residential Clean Energy Credit before it expired at the end of 2025. Sunergy was doing its best to meet the large number of orders for solar systems, but it became clear that their resources were strained. Compounding that issue, Sunergy reported delays in receiving panels and micro-inverters from their suppliers, all which delayed the date of installation. Communications with some of the project managers was frustrating, but I eventually was assigned a knowledgable and responsive PM. I'll give them a pass on all of these issues, chalking it up as a one-time event, and instead focus on the end product. Despite the supply issues, I eventually received delivery of the REC solar panels and Enphase microinverters specified in the contract. The contract installers were courteous, worked efficiently, cleaned up the site at the end of the installation, and did a professional job. The city inspector granted a Permission-to-Operate without issues. I really like the Enphase monitoring app which is well designed and shows summary and real-time status of the system. I wish the process had gone more smoothly, but I am pleased with the system. read more

I had the same experience as Viraj. I cannot emphasize enough what a hard time I had working with Chris Hammerstone and the Sunergy team. Their lack of professionalism, particularly their failure to reliably communicate or make progress on the permitting, was really surprising given the previous positive reviews I had read. After running months behind the anticipated schedule, I got really worried that I was being scammed. I'll leave it with this--I had to convince my spouse to go with a solar system, and choosing Sunergy ended up being a source of both embarrassment and stress as the weeks dragged on and the excuses piled up. To be frank, I don't trust that they'll reliably maintain the system, or even respond to future service requests in a timely manner. I'd love to be proven wrong, but man, this was a terrible experience. read more

It takes a lot for me to post a negative review, however, in my frustration, I've decided to do so. My experience with Chris for the initial design, installation. and first year under warranty, I was very happy. However, each time I had a panel that stopped performing per the specifications for a good panel, it took some time to get a replacement. This last time I have now been waiting over a year for a warranty replacement. I have tried numerous times contacting Chris with no success, I have an un under performing system right now, which really irks me as it's only caused by a failure in Customer Support during warranty. I hope it changes. As I really liked Chris and was happy to refer him to other friends and family, not so sure now. read more

I recently had a 6,300-watt, 15-panel solar photovoltaic system installed on my roof by Sunergy. I found Sunergy through the Energy Sage site and compared their quote with several other companies, including local installers. After speaking with about half a dozen companies and reviewing their quotes, I decided to go with Sunergy. Jeremy, who was incredibly knowledgeable and offered creative solutions for my unique situation, played a significant role in my decision. He provided genuine recommendations without any overselling, and the price quote from Sunergy was several thousand dollars less than the local installers. Once I signed the contract, I was assigned a project manager who kept me informed about the progress of my project. There were occasional gaps in updates, but nothing too concerning. When the original project manager left the company, a new project manager was assigned to me. The transition was a bit awkward as I wasn't initially informed of the change, but the new project manager quickly took over and maintained good communication. While the project took several months to initiate--understandable due to the complexities of permitting--the process was generally smooth. When installation began, the team arrived on time. However, since they were relatively new to Sunergy, there were a few hiccups. Communication lapses between the company and the installers led to some delays, including waiting for parts to arrive. The installers arrived in passenger vehicles and were initially without the necessary extension ladders for my second-story roof, which meant they had to borrow mine. They also replaced an existing inverter but seemed unclear about some aspects of the installation. Despite these issues, the installation was completed competently, though I had to point out a few things for correction. One pleasant surprise was that the installed panels had a higher wattage than initially specified, and the Enphase microinverters were upgraded as well--without any prior mention, which I'm certainly not complaining about! Post-installation support has been excellent. Chris spent considerable time ensuring that the monitoring system was set up correctly and offered valuable advice on the best PG&E electric plan to maximize savings. It's been about three months since the installation, and the system is performing as expected. The Enphase monitoring system is particularly useful for tracking solar electricity production and will be helpful for future troubleshooting. Overall, I'm very pleased with the entire experience. I had a roof leak and needed my solar panels to be removed and reinstalled which was harder than I imagined to find a company to do it. I received a quote from one solar company that was basically the same price of installing my solar panels and was candidly looking to take advantage of any customer they could. I was fortunate to connect with Chris Hammerstone with Sunergy and he gave me a quote that was 75% cheaper (yes you read that correctly). The Sunergy team was flexible with timing and extremely helpful to even reconnect my enphase monitoring system. I would recommend Chris and his team given my experience with them! read more

I'd like to review the timeline and steps taken thus far, as your recent response contains several inaccuracies and fails to acknowledge the ongoing issues with our solar system. 1. System Performance & Misrepresentation- The system is only four years old, yet it has already required numerous panel replacements within the first 18 months. We purchased additional panels based on your recommendation, to support our planned pool and landscape lighting. When you claim that the system has "far exceeded" expectations, and "there has never been a time that you have not gotten what you paid for."  that is incorrect. We paid EXTRA money for extra panels to ensure adequate energy production, and we expect every single panel to perform as promised. A more accurate analogy would be buying a car and paying extra. for with an upgraded engine, only to receive one with half the horsepower--yet being told to be grateful it still runs. That's unacceptable. 2. False Claims About System Replacement- Contrary to your statement, we never demanded a full system replacement. In fact, it was Chris--the original only owner--who recommended a full replacement after multiple panels failed. Jeremy, you were not with the company at that time, so you are not in a position to accurately represent that history. Our $40,000 cash payment was based on trust in your company's expertise and warranty promises. 3. Unresolved Warranty Issues- We currently have four underperforming panels--still under the 25-year warranty--that have not been addressed. We wrote a Yelp review nine months ago, and you are only responding now. Since then: * We contacted Enphase, who sent four inverters, thinking they were the issue. Since your company was unresponsive, we paid hundreds of dollars out of pocket to have them installed--only to discover the problem persists. * Two replacement panels (of the four needed) were shipped directly to our home three months ago with your company's name on them. When I called the manufacturer, I was informed that you were notified of their arrival. Yet they remain in our garage, untouched. * When I asked last year, "When the replacement panels arrive, when will you install them?" Jeremy, your response was: "Whenever we get around to it." It's now been a year, and we've had the panels in hand for three months. 4. Industry Advice- I reached out to CALSSA for guidance. Unfortunately, they've seen many cases like ours--companies not honoring their 25-year warranties or becoming unresponsive. We had hoped yours would be different especially Chris since you were a friend of our son for many years. 5. Yelp Review- You've emailed us asking to remove our Yelp review of your work. However, you've done nothing to resolve the underlying issue. The review stands because our system remains incomplete and underperforming--despite your promises and our repeated efforts to engage. At this point, we expect a prompt and professional response regarding the installation of the two replacement panels already delivered to our home, and a clear plan for addressing the remaining two malfunctioning panels. This is crazy and scary. Virtually, all of these negative reviews happened to me. It has been months and months of no communication. They never did a site survey so when it finally came to the installation after giving them tens of thousands of dollars, they stopped and said they couldn't do it. Then they left their expensive stuff in my driveway with boxes opened and laying around. I cleaned it all up and boxed everything and covered what couldn't be in the garage, then I was ignored for a few months. They finally picked up their stuff. That's when I saw how truly poor the communication is at the company. Two guys showed up to get the stuff in a pickup truck. If they had read the invoice or spoken to someone aware of my account, they would have known that they needed a bigger vehicle. I'm still waiting on a refund for most of the money I gave them (according to their cancellation policy), and no one is responding. I've been documenting everything and will be hiring a lawyer to get my refund plus legal fees. This is just egregious and we all deserve better. read more

I had recently reached out to obtain assistance on an existing solar array which I was having issues with but was getting nowhere with the original installer and Enphase. I was recommended to connect with Sunergy, which I did as 70% of my system kept going on. Within hours of leaving a message and sending an email, Chris responded and took a genuine interest in the solar issues. He confirmed what I though was wrong and walked me through the process to repair it at no charge. He has followed up and ensured it worked after I did the repairs. During our discussions, I found him very informed, creative, solution oriented and customer focused. Should I want to expand my system or add a batter backup system, I will definitely reach out to Chris and the Sunergy team. read more

Friends of ours who have had solar installed by Sunergy in their home suggested we reach out to them to take a look at our Tustin home. Chris, the owner, was extremely professional and thorough during his initial visit. It was very educational and there were no sales tactics/pressure. After speaking with other vendors, we decided our friends were correct, and we chose Sunergy. A bit of background, we initially had signed a contract with Tesla for a Tesla roof and after Tesla's non-existent customer service and the 6-month without action wait time, we were so refreshed with Chris' speed to service. We signed a contract for a fair price and things moved fast and on schedule. A few weeks after contract signing, we have a new roof with solar! As a couple nearing retirement in the next 10-12 years, our intention is to remove expenses where possible for when we are on a fixed income. As our friends who worked with Sunergy told us over lunch one day, true enough, our meter runs BACKWARDS. The App shows that we are producing more energy than consuming. And, we have a pool, two plug in cars, and run our air conditioning. Now, of course, this was all taken into consideration during our meeting with Chris and is not coincidental. Chris asked specifically what we wanted...and then he made it happen! Would we recommend Sunergy, and Chris? Absolutely! In fact we already have referred a neighbor to reach out to Sunergy and they have recently gone under contract. Great company. HONEST. TRUSTWORTHY. NOT TESLA (thank goodness!). read more

My solar source company repaired my system about a month ago and went out yesterday again. Called and stated they would get back to me for repair next week? One call to sunergy and Chris went over everything with me on the phone and then came out and replaced one of the batteries and it was up and running in 5minutes! No charge.!! They have me as their customer for life. Honest and there to help. read more
