Very cute and very authentic! This business has a large parking lot shared with surrounding businesses, but there were still plenty of spaces. I was going to meet 14 people so I called ahead to make the reservation. They were able to accommodate all of us and even pushed some tables together, so we can all sit with each other. They offered two different types of menus. When was your traditional menu and another was more authentic with different spices and different seasonings. I always like to try something I know very well so it can act as a good baseline to determine if the restaurant is good so I stuck with the sweet-and-sour chicken with fried rice and egg drop soup. This was part of their lunch special, I always feel like I get a good deal when I do a lunch special. Even though there was 14 of us, they were able to accommodate and bring the food out at the exact same time. It was also fresh and hot. The sweet-and-sour chicken was really good and I definitely would order it again. I hope to go back so I can explore more items on the menu because of how good the lunch special was. Second time in and everything was super consistent! Had the Jalapeno Beef and the meat was perfectly tender while the veggies remained crisp and fresh. Perfect sized portions to fuel you and not leave you feeling bogged down. Staff is friendly but not quick to refill drinks. read more

Seems the ownership may have changed hands since the last time we were here, or at least the cook did. Egg rolls were in dough that was like a tortilla texture. Thick and very doughy. Not great flavor. Shrimp with garlic sauce had a thick brown sauce. Wish it was a bit thinner. Saw they had boxes of soybean oil right near the bathrooms:outside of the kitchen cj en. I love Sunflower Asian Cafe. Their best dish, in my opinion, is the Mapo Tofu. This has been a favorite dish of mine ever since I was a child. This Mapo Tofu at Sunflower Asian Cafe always transports me back to my childhood. I will always ask to add pork if it doesn't always come with it. The other thing I like to add is broccoli. As you can tell from some of my previous check-ins, Sunflower Asian Cafe was a godsend post-pandemic, and I still go there. I prefer eating at the restaurant instead of take-away or delivery. We ordered take-out here for seven people and it amounted out to about $150 and we had leftovers for days! We ordered the vegetable egg rolls, shrimp spring rolls, wonton soup, egg drop/wonton mixed soup, steamed pork dumplings, fried chicken wings, eggplant with garlic sauce, general tso's chicken, orange chicken, chicken fried rice, pork fried rice, and steamed white rice. So I was in the neighborhood and wanted Chinese food and I had never eaten here before. I decided to check it out. Located in an unassuming strip mall area, the restaurant is fairly small but decorated nicely and appeared clean. I entered and a woman said "Sit wherever you want." So I found a seat and proceeded to wait. The restaurant wasn't busy. There were only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant. I waited quite some time and finally flagged down a server. She was an older lady, who literally was glaring at me as she approached me! I politely asked if I could get some service and she stomped off without saying a word. I was starting to get up to leave when a younger woman came to take my order. I was hesitant to stay, but thought " what the hell" and placed my order. It took quite awhile for my food to come out and lo and behold, it was "Bad Grandma" delivering it to my table. She literally slammed the plate down in front of me and walked away. No offer of a refill on my drink, nothing. The food did taste very good, but rarely have I ever experienced such hostile service. Therefore for me, this is a one and done. I won't return. read more

I'm not sure if they went through a change of ownership or what happened but the prices have more than doubled. I ordered two wonton soups to go the other night and it was $22. The soup was mostly just broth and 3 wontons. No "crunchies" included or anything like that. We had a lovely dinner here this evening. The woman that helped us was extremely friendly and helped me with finding items that are gluten free. We had the Chow Fun combination noodles and vegetable eggs fu young. The noodles were pretty good but a little oily. The egg fu young , however , was top notch! When we first moved to the area a few years ago, the portions were fairly generous. There were so much more of everything in their tasty dishes. Tonight, we ordered a modest meal just for the two of us. We selected the Yang Zhao rice. Wonton soup and the honey fried chicken. The menu ingredients painted a lovely mental image. No photo, however. Okay. My husband brought the meal home. Once the lids were lifted, he looked at the food and said it didn't look much different than the stuff panda express serves at a third of the price. There was only the tiniest bits of meat and vegetables that the menu described. It was basically a large plate of rice with maybe 1/2 cup of microscopic meat and veggies and that dish alone cost $18?? The honey chicken wasn't overly sweet, there was enough there for maybe three people? But is was panda express stuff. $18 as well. And no other ingredients. The wonton soup was nice enough, the broth wasn't overly salty. There were probably 8 wontons all together... and nothing else unless you want to include a few shreds of onion. That's it, and another $9 for that. I have to say, these are good people. They have made an effort in the past. But with the catastrophic economic effects on everyone, and all of the downsizing (I forget the term) of food products, from supplier to market to restaurant to customer, there's next to nothing left on the bone for the customer. I get it. It's not only them, it's everywhere. They are all trying to survive and keep their doors open. But for me, at this point, I'm better off struggling to cook something at home at this point. And I can cook, but presently health conditions forbid, unfortunately. So with that, the next time we have a yen for some Chinese food..... this little grasshopper is going to consider much more carefully where we are going to spend hard earned cash on a meal. And unfortunately, it won't be at the Sunflower Asian Cafe. I hope they will survive. read more

We were not impressed. I ordered the Chow Fun with vegetables and basically the only vegetables were broccoli and something that may have been zucchini. It wasn't terrible but wasn't great, either. My wife got the Prawns with Walnut and as far as she could tell, they were pecans, not walnuts. Also, the kitchen forgot to make hers, so she had to wait a fairly long time after I had been served. And she didn't think it was very good. We thought the server was a bit surly, and her English was very poor. We felt like we were an imposition on her day. To be fair, she was the only one we saw serving and there were 6-7 tables filled. While we were there, the 1990s called and asked for their decor back. This is probably the only restaurant here specialized in authentic Huaiyang cuisine, a branch of the Jiangsu cuisine, with special attention on presentation and balanced taste. Ordered their Yangzhou combo fried rice, Nanjing salt duck, Yangzhou boiled bean curd strips, fish fillet with sweet rice wine sauce and lamb with scallions. A fine option if you're looking for Chinese food in the area. Though I tried their Americanized Menu instead of authentic Chinese menu, the options available on the menu and large set of options were impressive and I'd like to try it in the future. With that said, I enjoyed how the Americanized menu still infused some techniques and flavors that made it better than expected. Here's my thoughts on the different items I tried: Vegetable egg rolls: Lightly crisp and healthy tasting. I liked how the wrapper wasn't excessively thick. Shrimp pad thai: Not my favorite preparation, but not bad either. This was definitely a bit more savory and felt like a fusion Chinese-Thai take on the dish. I would have liked it to be a bit sweeter and have more flavor of peanut and onion, but still enjoyable. Kung pao chicken: Tender chicken and pretty good wok-hay. The flavor of the peppers and onions came out nicely and the squash was quite tasty. Sweet and sour pork: Lightly crisp on the batter with tender pork. The sweet and sour sauce is a bit thin, but I liked the fresh peppers provided with the dish. Orange chicken: The best dish I tried. The battery was crisped nicely and the sauce seemed to be caramelized slightly as well, with tender chicken inside. The broccoli crowns were tender and just cooked. Overall, huge portions at reasonable prices with pretty good flavors make this a fine option for Chinese cuisine in the area. read more

I never get disappointed eating here or taking my friends and family to try new dishes. From intestines to scallion pancakes to smoked fish to chili pepper chicken to pig hoof to twice cooked pork to belt fish to lion's head to bean curd threads... everything was wonderful. And what I've listed were not even 1/10 of what they offered. I've been here multiple times, always getting some dishes as staples but trying one or two new items. I am mourning the loss of my favorite Szechuan restaurant and am looking for a replacement. Sunflower was recommended to me by a fellow Yelper whose opinions on such this I hold in high regard, so I gave it a shot. I got type casted! I sat down and was handed a napkin, fork, and an Americanized menu. I flipped through it, confused - it was the standard Orange Chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp, etc. I got my server's attention and asked where the Szechuan menu items were. She returned with a completely different menu for me (though I still didn't get chop sticks)! I took pictures of front and back. Though I'm no stranger to traditional Chinese food, there were tons of things on this menu I've never heard of. I experimented with diced fish with pine nuts (I'm a sucker for pine nuts). This choice was the safe option but still satisfying. We started with the vegetable egg rolls. This was a satisfying and light appetizer. We ordered the shrimp pad Thai, Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour pork, and orange chicken to share at the table. This was more than enough food for the six of us. It took over an hour for the food to arrive. Also the chicken in the sweet and sour was way over cooked and the honey chicken was bland and soggy. What an amazing find in the south denver metroplex! I drove 45 minutes to eat at Sunflower Asian Cafe, and it was so worth it. They serve some of the most authentic Chinese food I've had in Denver. I'm not sure why some reviews harp on the service and food because there wasn't one thing I disliked about my meal. I went with a large group of friends, and we ordered so many delicious dishes. We started off with scallion pancakes that were thick, golden-fried to perfection. Their West Lake Beef Soup was absolutely enormous and fed 10 people. Our entrees consisted of spicy fried chicken, a pork belly dish, a tofu dish, Beijing duck, and xiao long bao. Soooo much tasty food! The service was great, and my water was constantly filled.
