Tried this place for the first time today since I'm trying to eat more plant based. The menu does have plenty of options, which is great for someone just getting into vegan cuisine. I ordered the jalapeño veggie burger and I was really hoping for a side fries but that was not an option. The sides were plentiful but nothing seemed best to pair with a burger. I've had plenty of veggie burgers and I would rate this one 3/5 stars it was really just okay. Very rice-y and falls apart easily. read more

OMG!! I am so thankful to have found the Sunflower Cafe on yelp while I was in Nashville for the weekend. The extensive vegan menu combined with the kindest most friendly staff made for the best dinner I've had in a while. It is very apparent that the people who work here care about serving healthy food and are extremely personable. My friend and invite ordered the jalapeño burger and it was amazing!! A very hearty and flavorful veggie burger with fresh and spicy jalapeños left me happy and satisfied. I also had two sides of collard greens and sesame kale which were both delish!! I have been eating at this place for a long time and I don't have any issues with it...their sides stay pretty consistent...wish they had more hot sides such as vegan mashed potatoes or mac n cheese...but the lunch entrees are of good portion...there is plenty of room in the dining room... I usually get the traditional veggie burger which is ALWAYS delicious and the no bake chocolate and peanut butter bar... The only issue I have is the parking lot...there are not a lot of spaces and when it gets busy you have to end up parking on the street and the entrance to the parking lot is very bumpy! read more

This is a go to place for us when we are in Nashville, I have many food allergies and the staff is always helpful with going over their menu. I LOVE this place! It's one of my favorites. I feel good after I eat and I feel good while I'm eating. The prices are good and the food is even better. There is outside and inside seating. I have had the crabless crab cake every time I come but this time I had the spicy thai curry. The sides are large enough to share in my opinion. So my advice is get an entry and split some sides with friends. There are a lot of options and very clear on what is and isn't in the food. Don't skip dessert either - the cookie dough will surprise you how good it is. There is typically a line but it goes fast and it's worth it! There is also a happy hour M-F with food and drinks! If I could eat here every day I would. My friend and I shared two different wraps with different sides. The portobello wrap was amazing- the pineapple compote added an amazing depth to this simple combination of ingredients. We also tried toe buffalo tempeh wrap, which we thought would be more fun, but we didn't love it as much as the portobello one! For sides we tried the smokey collards (YUM! How are these vegetarian?!) and the pad thai salad (which I wish we'd ordered a pund of bc it was so good!). Even the all natural soda machine impressed me. The decor wasn't much- a little grungy and cafeteria-like, but my friend and I sat on the covered porch and were comfy and had plenty of quiet for chatting. read more

I was at a board meeting and they ordered from this cafe for us vegan and gluten free folks. It is no lie to say we were the only ones gushing over the food (the others had a good meal, not great). I had the BBQ sandwich and my colleague had the wrap. Both of us felt like this was the most exceptional vegan food we'd had for lunch in a long time. The BBQ sandwich was just perfect -the bbq was tasty and rich without being overly sweet or cloying. The bun was great - and I found the kale side to be ok (not my favorite actually). Great options, clean food, but a lot of it is cold. I got the curry chickpea wrap which they press in a toaster but the chickpeas are very cold on the inside and it just ruins the flavor and the experience of it. I also didn't see any of the famous gluten free cupcakes which was disappointing. The way the place is set up is a bit uncomfortable and I felt a bit rushed to order. We adore this restaurant! We try to come as often as we can, coming from out of town. Everyone working here is so friendly, you can't help be happy too! So many delicious options at Sunflower. I always get the Curry chickpea and Kale salad, it's that good! I can't stray. My husband and kiddos switch it up, so I luckily still get to try new food, and we have yet to be disappointed! Large servings to boot, we often have to take home food, which is never a bad thing, especially when you open the fridge the next day! Woot...win!! Came here with a friend after a long drive from Memphis. It as 4/20 so you know I had an appetite after celebrating with no food. When my friend suggested a vegan cafe in one of the great food cities in the US, I was skeptical but I'm always up for trying something new. I was not disappointed! I got the Thai Ginger Bowl which was more than filling. The flavors were on point and the portions were larger than I would get back in New England. Growing up in the South it didn't surprise me that the staff filled my bowl with firm Tofu, tons of kale, and delicious peanut oil and sauce. The price however caught me off guard. For the bowl, a can of Yerba Mate, and small tip, the total was ~$18. For a Vegan restaurant in an area surrounded by potential or actual farmland, it seems a bit steep. I am completely new to the eating vegetarian food and this is only my second time to Sunflower, but I have really enjoyed both meals and the atmosphere. The staff is great. The noticed that I was having trouble deciding what to get and offered suggestions and tastes. I tasted several of the items offered which then made it even harder to decide and stay on budget. LOL. Sunflower can be very inexpensive, but your tab can easily top $20 a person if you add on a bunch of sides to your entrée. Each side is HUGE, delicious, and well worth the cost but if you are keeping cost in mind you will want to limit your sides. Our dinner last night consisted of two buffalo wraps and a side each and one drink, I'm drinking water, the total came to ~$24.00. We were both full and that isn't an outrageous price for the quality and quantity you get. My only complaint is that there aren't more places like this in Nashville and its surrounding cities. As many of you may know eating health and cheap isn't easy to do and in fact in Nashville it is pretty near impossible but Sunflower has accomplished both if you can contain your excitement and limit your selection to a few items instead of trying everything your first visit. My go-to restaurant for veggie/vegan food in Nashville. Recommended for anyone who can tolerate vegetables, even the meat eaters among us. You won't go wrong with the curry or burger. The soups are always spot-on. Reasonably priced, casually seating, great for a group. 4/5 stars because some dishes are markedly better than others, though that might just be a matter of taste or, perhaps, a slight nostalgia for the vegan restaurants in SF. The staff--who are so friendly and warm you'll start to wonder if they've met you before and you are just forgetting--will let you sample anything, so just sample before you commit. What a gem and a vegetarian's dream. Driving in from the back side, you can't miss the welcoming big sign and the planted sunflowers. After parking, you walk up the steps in front into what feels like a friendly neighbor's house. Walking in, the sight of steaming vegetables and smell of different spices and flavors hit me and I could feel my excitement already building up. It's a Chipotle-like layout of veggie dishes freshly made and kept steaming hot - you can customize your plate and get what you want. Or you could get the all sides sampler like we did, labeled A.S.S. I got the Portebello bowl (comes in a wrap as well): portebello mushroom, kale, quinoa - 3 of my favorite ingredients seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was deliciously addicting. We made it for the last 5 min of happy hour (until 6pm!) so I got a Nashville-based sour beer called Honky Tonk Cherry for just $2 ;) It was a decent-length line when we got here around 5:40pm but when we sat down, we could see the line built up all the way out the door. You can taste the freshness of the veggies and all of it was very satisfying in a delicious way. We couldn't finish it in one sitting - so it was basically two meals with what we got (A.S.S. + Portebello bowl)! LOVE love love this gem of a place, A+++. So filling and healthy! The menu is diverse but also very easy to figure out. Although I always feel like I get stuck behind the people that stand there forever making a decision and holding up the line. A few friends recommended this spot to me for my friend's birthday. She can't eat gluten and I wanted a place that could deliver to her since I'm not a local and wanted to surprise her. Kimber was so patient and wonderful - working through quite a few obstacles in my order! I'm told the cupcakes and cookies were DELICIOUS which is obviously of the utmost importance. You haven't seen a Sampler Plate until you have ordered one for Sunflower Cafe.... WOW. Perhaps, they should call it the Sampler Tray instead? Literally, they filled an entire plate and added some containers to my tray filled with vegan goodness. The cost set me back around $12 but this vegan broad was stuffed for the rest of the day. I even took home a carryout container and was still full from all of the goodness from their Hot Bar. Some standouts at this vegetarian spot located in Berry Hill, are the Sesame Tofu, Kale Salad, and Hummus. You can also order specials and other menu items but I love to try a little bit of everything here. I am also pumped to report that Sunflower Cafe is also now open for dinner too. This is a great spot to dine-in or carryout. I love the fact that they use locally grown produce and focus on natural whole foods that include a range of options that include gluten-free, soy-free and vegan. read more

Well, started a new job and a few of the office folks said "let's go to Sunflower Cafe". I said THAT VEGETARIAN PLACE?!?! They assured me it was really good. So I went. Reluctantly. Man, was this place good! I had the BBQ chicken bowl. The "chicken" was great - the rice, beans and the asian slaw was good. I also had a cup of their homemade hummus with pita - really good. This restaurant is great. I am not a vegan but my wife, daughter and daughter in law eat vegan regularly. I usually go to a vegan places expecting to be unimpressed and leave hungry. Not here! I usually get one of the burgers as they are surprisingly delicious and filling. They have great slaws and my daughters love the wraps. My wife enjoys the potato bowls. They have a decent veggie patty that you can make a number of ways (I Aloha'd mine - comes with a pineapple sauce). (I also had the broccolini and kale sides - very simple, lightly seasoned). Nothing at Sunflower Cafe is all that exciting or adventurous - but sometimes all you want is a bit of soup and some greens on the side. Yum, yum, yum. Delicious, healthy food that fills you up and doesn't make you feel guilty. I got the Southwestern Salad, and the flavors were great. I especially loved the crispy tortillas strips. The only downside was the bottom of the bowl had a lot of water in it. I'm not sure if it was from the beans or the lettuce, but it watered the dressing down, and I had to drain it all out onto another plate. I split the curried chickpea wrap with my husband, and the flavors were great, but chick peas were way too cold and some of them even felt frozen. I think it would be a lot better served warm, and I plan to request it next time. Hopefully, they'll do it! I finished off my meal with the ginger hot tea. Very delicious and soothing!
