Asked my two kids to meet me here for my birthday and everyone loved the food. Neither of them are vegan. The barbecue sandwich was awesome, the barbecue burger was delicious and the no bake cookie and edible cookie dough were amazing!!! I had heard great things about this place, and I'm really glad I got a chance to try it out! It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but once the lady behind the counter explained it all to me I was excited to try a few things out. I ended up getting the 'cobb' salad, sesame kale, and broccoli with bell peppers. The kale and broccoli weren't anything exciting sadly, but the salad was AMAZING. I had the red pepper dressing which really tied it all together. On top of that amazing salad was avocado and mushroom bacon! That's a match made in heaven. My husband ended up eating most of my sides because the salad was so filling. I also enjoyed the agave flavored sodas on tap! That was great. Also the fact that everything is easily labeled for people who have gluten allergies, made choosing menu items a snap. All in all it was a good experience, the sides were so so and the price wasn't cheap. But it was tasty and it was filling, I'll be coming back next time I'm in Nashville. read more

Coming from a Portland, Oregon vegan, this place is so legit, and I am spoiled with veg options. I was super disappointed to discover there are only a few vegan places in Nashville but after reading reviews, this place caught my attention. I took my meat-loving, country, old school Dad here. He's only been exposed to a few vegan meals and wasn't very impressed. The ladies working were so awesome about explaining vegan meats (he wanted BBQ). They even let you sample as much as you like! He settled on the 'traditional BBQ' over the 'tempeh bbq.' They are so friendly and welcoming. The sides are TO DIE FOR. Next time I'll probably just get a plate of sides rather than a wrap or burger. Roasted asparagus, incredibly southern comfort sweet potato casserole and red potato salad! A vegan restaurant with food that you will crave??? Sign me up for that! I found Sunflower Cafe and it lives up to all of the amazing yelp reviews. I came and decided to sample some sides. I ordered sweet potato casserole, collard greens, and chickpea salad. The sweet potato casserole tastes like Granny's Sunday dinner. It has a little bit of granola inside for texture and is whipped smooth. The collard greens are southern style with vinegar and tomato. You won't miss the smoked turkey or ham hock I promise. My favorite of the three was the cold chickpea salad. The chickpeas are curried and paired with a creamy sauce and small raisins. Now that's a homerun. I can't wait to return and enjoy more tasty treats read more

Looks like a lil house with a sun porch actually it's a whole neighborhood of Lil house businesses! I travel about an hour to get there simply to enjoy the Thai Ginger bowl and the Cookie Dough dessert....yeah it's that good to me. It warm comfort food and all vegan! I was thrilled to be able to enjoy a gluten-free cupcake, a rare treat while traveling. I got the recommended almond cupcake. The frosting was a bit too sweet but it was still enjoyable. My friend got the chocolate cookie. It was ok. She enjoyed it noting that she wouldn't know it was vegan/gluten-free Another customer said she has had every cupcake flavor they make, and the coconut was her favorite. If more places like Sunflower Café existed, I could easily be converted to a vegetarian, no doubt about it. This food is exceptional and makes you forget you're missing meat! Sunflower Café is an adorable café, adorned with sunflower decorations, tucked away in Berry Hill. It's casual on the inside, with seating both indoors and outdoors. Order food cafeteria-line style. There is plenty to choose from: veggie burgers with a slew of topping combinations, vegan BBQ, salads, wraps, rice/quinoa bowls, and tons of sides to choose from. There's always a healthy option - allowing you to have your burger/bbq/whatever over lettuce if your looking to limit carbs. I had the VEGAN BBQ ($6.99) over lettuce. This BBQ is made from tempeh (TBH I have no idea what that is, but it's good!), and was served on a bed of field greens with red onion slices, tomato slices, a crunchy Asian cabbage slaw, sweet BBQ sauce, and a garlic aioli. The portion was big, with tons of the sweet BBQ that paired nicely with the bite of the onion and the garlicky flavors of the aioli. It may not be a slab of baby back ribs, but for a meatless option its pretty dang tasty! I wasn't planning on getting dessert, but when I saw the "COOKIE DOUGH PARFAIT" I was like what the heck, I feel like I'm being healthy and this is too good to pass up. I'm not sure how it's made, but its a cup of edible cookie dough (I had oatmeal raisin!) - what could be better. The oatmeal raisin flavor is sweet, without being overly decadent or too sweet, full of raisins, and topped with crunchy oatmeal pieces. I could've eaten like ten of those. Will I be back? For sure! Sunflower Café is very reasonably priced, and offers up tons of options to try. There's a lot more on the menu I'm interested in tasting, and I look forward to being back! read more

Love love love it! Impressive even by the high standards for vegan food set by living in the pacific NW! Being vegetarians, we had missed out on southern food many times during our travels. We found this place thru yelp and a vegan southern food sounded interesting. What we didn't expect that the concept was executed so well! I took their traditional bbq entree with a spinach tortilla wrap, and my husband took a black bean burger. Both were absolutely delicious, juicy and flavorful. The southern flavors were nicely done. I highly recommend the wrap. We also indulged in their many sides, my favorite was the caramelized apples, they were perfectly cooked and just the right amount of sweet. The servings are big and just one entree or 2.5 sides is a full meal. They have a dog friendly patio. Don't skip this place if you're in Nashville! read more

I got a spinach wrap with quinoa, portabella mushrooms, spinach, caramelized onions, tomatoes and topped with a pineapple chili sauce. There was a little too much spinach in the wrap for me, but I pulled some out and fixed it. Overall it was delicious. First time at a vegetarian/vegan restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. All the good reviews I had read were spot-on! I was really hungry when I got there and didn't think vegetarian food would fill me up but it did--I could not finish my meal! I had the veggie burger bowl (jalapeno style). The veggie burger seemed to be black-bean based and was really delicious and moist. All the toppings were fresh and tasty: tomatoes, red onions, jalapenos, kale. I have not had quinoa much but opted to get it and I'm glad I did. It was moist but not stuck together like sometimes happens, seasoned well. I will definitely go back! On top of the great food, the staff was very friendly, answered my questions, and even allowed us to stay a few minutes after closing time to wrap up our dinner and conversation. The only thing that upsets me about this place is that it's in Nashville-not my hometown. On the bright side, I would probably blow all my money here because I am OBSESSED with Sunflower Cafe. I'm usually used to walking into a restaurant and being vegan- having very limited options or substitutions. Not the case with Sunflower Cafe! Everything is vegan and I even had trouble deciding what to get. I finally settled on a beet burger with a gluten free bun (because when was the last time I got a burger??). I think I died and went to heaven. Not only was this the most amazing gluten free bread I've ever had, the burger hit the spot and I destroyed the whole thing. If you're a tidy eater (aka- the complete opposite of me) this burger might not be for you- but no worries, they have dishes for those fond of silverware.
