I'm new to the wonderful word of veggie burgers, so I'm not exactly sure about its composition, but I do know that it was delicious. The wheat bun was light enough to let the veggie patty shine. And the drizzle of chipotle-ish sauce added a tasty smoky flavor. The side of sweet potato casserole rounded out the meal nicely. I love burgers, so I consider my standards to be high. Brunch with my hunny... sooo good. Sunflower is always a good choice. The omelet bake flavor wise would make any omelet eater happy, the only thing was it needed more sauce it was a little dry for my preference but we would both get it again. The chickpea "chicken" salad sandwich would be a great choice for anyone for lunch. My only thing is it does not taste like chicken salad it tastes exactly like EGG SALAD! I think they gave it the wrong name but the taste is delightful. We also chose to get a peppermint cupcake and shared it between us. It tasted lightly of mint so I feel like everyone could enjoy it. They also have daily specials for each day of the week. Mock "Crab" Cake: 5/5 This is the Friday special, and it was absolutely delicious! The "crab" cake had a crispy crust on the outside, and the inside had a crab-like texture and was so flavorful that I didn't miss the meat. The remoulade slaw served on the side was also crisp and tasty, complementing the "crab" cake well. I should also say that this entrée was filling by itself, but I ordered a side anyway because it was my first time here, and I wanted to try one out. Sweet Potato Casserole: 5/5 Another tasty dish! The sweet potato was smooth and seasoned to allow the sweet potato flavor to take center stage. This place has sort of a weird vibe to it, but the food makes up for it. As you walk in, all the food is on display, and you have to order before you sit. The seating is very limited, and because of that, they don't really clean their tables much. The silverware and glasses were pretty dirty. Our cashier went through about 6 of them before she found one that was clean enough to give us..... Other than that, the BBQ Wrap is literally what my vegetarian heart needed. It is absolutely perfect! The veggies pair so well with the sweetness of the BBQ. It's the perfect substitute for meat. I've heard great things about their burgers, but I wasn't a very big fan. They are very hard to eat, as they fall apart easily. The flavor was okay, but very mushroomy. The pad Thai was also not that good. We ended up throwing away most of it. I would NEVER have thought that I would have some of the best vegan food I've ever had in Nashville ... but I did. First of all, their veggie burger is perhaps one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. I appreciate that they weren't trying to pass it off as meat, but rather a hearty patty made with rice and probably beets along with other veggies that was both filling and had a great texture. I couldn't decide between the Southern BBQ veggie burger or the Garlic Mushroom one, so I asked the lady who was taking my order, and she said that hands-down the Garlic Mushroom was the one to get, so I heeded her advice and I am SO GLAD that I did. Garlic, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and Sriracha aioli ... I practically melted in my seat from how good it was. The house-made gluten-free vegan bun wasn't bad ... maybe a tad dense and chewy, but I was glad to actually have a bun I could eat! I also had their Smoky Southern Collards, which were so tasty, and the southern-style vegan & gluten-free cornbread. The cornbread was neither particularly savory nor sweet, so you could have added whatever you wanted to it, but it was somehow also delicious on its own despite being neither savory nor sweet! And then I saw in their refrigerator case that they have a vegan gluten-free cookie dough parfaits, and if I hadn't been stuffed silly already, I would have gotten one. Next time. In fact, I want to come back to Nashville JUST to come back to Sunflower Cafe, and try EVERYTHING on their menu. I came to Nashville to visit some family and my sweet uncle and aunt knew I was vegetarian so they picked this place to take us, even though they love their meat and my brother is pretty passionate about his meat. We all LOVED our meals. No meat necessary. The sides are all so good, I recommend trying the side sampler. I ordered the veggies burger with mushrooms and a side of sweet potatoes. The apple juice was so good and their edible cookie dough was so mouth watering, I have literally craved it every day since we ate there. But the parking though.... we LOVE sunflower cafe and eat here a few times, every time we're in town. Every time parking is hectic as the lot is tiny and oddly situated. Cars can enter the lot from 2 entrances and then end up head to head in a backing up standoff. My advice is to just park on the street and save the hassle. Cute little dining spot that can fill up quick at peak times. I encourage parties of 2 to sit across from each other vs side to side as tables are mostly two tops and this would allow more guests to sit inside vs the patio. This is especially critical at peak times in the winter when it's cold on the patio. Food is fresh and delicious! Their BBQ wraps are my favorite!!! Now that I'm eating a plant-based diet I want sure I could find good vegan BBQ. Well, I did and it was delicious. (As their website says, they are completely vegan except for "Udi's Gluten-Free Bread (contains egg whites) or if you choose to add Real Dairy Cheese to your meal." That would account for the .1%) Once again I found myself visiting a restaurant with a group of friends, many of whom are partial to vegetarian food. None of us was disappointed. I ordered the daily special, two tacos: Thai Ginger Tofu and BBQ Tempeh drizzled with Avocado Lime Crème. One of my sides was Smoky Southern Collards. Another was Pad Thai Salad (my one disappointment). I also had a cup of Green Chili Corn Chowder---sweet and slightly spicy and wonderfully warm and soothing. Oh yeah! Dyn-o-mite! Ah, Sunflower Cafe. Those halcyon days of being vegan in the 1990s (yes, it's true. Vegans existed then), where you'd walk up to the counter of a kinda decked-out hippie abode and get a plate piled with simple fare: tons of veggies, hummus, marinated tofu & the like (though admittedly back then quinoa wasn't an option). And it's *still* just delicious as I remembered. The basics. When done well, I can't imagine a more satisfying thing than a Detox Bowl, which is just loaded with goodies like quinoa, fresh greens, and their phenomenal marinated tofu smothered in a peanutty sauce. Because I can't resist a hummus, I ordered a (crazy cheap) side and raw veggies are an option if you don't trust bread (I don't. Especially pita). I still cannot get over the portion sizes! Priced like it's 1995 at that. I was staying Downtown and took Uber here. Getting one for the trip back took over a half hour, but it was worth it. However, we have gone to Wild Cow several times before and I remember liking how much spicier and stronger the seasonings are there. Nonetheless, this place has other menu items. Today I ordered the quinoa burger bowl with the jalapeño seasoning. I had the quinoa burger patty on a big dollop of quinoa and sesame kale. They also added red onions, jalapeños (jarred), tomatoes, and garlic aioli (I like it to be more garlicky). I loved the portion and the mix of flavors, but I just wish it had more spice to it. I am Korean, so if you have ever had bibimbop, this actually reminded me of it without the rice, egg, and kimchi! My husband had the quinoa black bean bake which was awesome. On my first visit to Nashville Tennessee, this restaurant was the one that came up the most when searching for vegan options of food to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find a place in the south that serve the vegan food. In previous experiences in the southern states, it proved difficult to find plant-based options. The name sunflower was what caught my attention in the first place. Upon arriving, I felt as though I were walking into a very warm, and friendly place. It was almost as if I was walking to the backyard of my uncles home. The scenery is easy on the eyes, the whiff of barbecue was present all throughout the building, and I was greeted by two wonderful workers. The menu is a bit cluttered but not so much where you can't figure out what you want. I asked one employee who happened to be a San Bernardino, California native, what was popular. She said that they are known for their veggie burgers but that her favorite was the vegan barbecue burger. The texture resembled pulled pork, but the taste was far from it. Still it was very flavorful and topped with all types of vegetables and a homemade coleslaw sitting between two whole wheat buns. I was pretty sure that I had to go back and get another but after the first three bites I already found myself slowing down ha ha Ha ha ha. The agave soda was also quite refreshing and not as sweet as regular soda. If you happen to pass through this side of Nashville, and if you're looking to have some good home cooking on the healthier side, I highly suggest visiting this place. I'm so jealous that Nashville has such awesome veg food. Whenever I visit, my veg sister and I gorge ourselves on all the city has to offer. Sunflower has the best veggie burger around! I love how you can get it in different styles and with different toppings. I am a purist and prefer just to have cheese, lettuce and aioli on top (or for dipping!). It is a cute, yellow cafe with indoor, outdoor and screened patio seating. Well behaved pets are welcomed on the patio. Parking and dining-in can be challenging especially during lunchtime, so if you are pressed for time get there by 11:15am or after 1pm. All items are a la carte. My favorite: The Spicy Buffalo Tempeh Spinach Wrap $6.99 topped with shredded carrots, mixed greens, red onions & tomato. I also enjoy a side of camelized apples and Seseame Kale for $2.99 each and a glass of peach or blueberry Kombucha aka Booch tea. (Growler is $30.00 and if you bring the empty growler back, -$1.00 off the next jug). For dessert I love their Peanut butter cookie $2.50. I am usually stuffed so I always take it to-go. This cafe is a quick lunch option for those looking for a healthy and delicious meal, or simply if they want to keep it on the cheap side.
