I'd heard of this new* breakfast spot in Edgehill and, if I took the surface streets, it was on my way home. Done. As amused as I was to see yet another business stuffed into the same retail center I was happy to find parking I didn't have to pay for or travel many miles to find on the street. Nashville is making itself untenable for the car culture it's wrought. Even though I stopped by in the am, the restaurant was empty (my favorite) so I had the place to myself. I made small talk. I asked questions. I ordered substitutions. I paid. I got my food. I went home. My appointment was early enough that I could eat breakfast at an appropriate time. I poured myself some OJ, plated my food and got to business. My Egghill sandwich was basic in description but top tier in taste. The effortlessly sort bread beautifully enveloped bite after bite of pillowy egg. To accompany my protein was local cheddar and perectly lemony/bitter arugula. Every bite was a delight. The sandwich typically comes with 'good sauce' but I ordered mine without. I have never been a fan of secret/et al sauces. Excuses to pair gloppy mayonnaise with other ingredients and drown said sandwich in the aforementioned gloppy sauce make my stomach curdle. No ma'am. No sir. I want the food to represent itself. And the Egghil sandwich does. Very well. 5 stars. So, why 3.5/4? The grits. The grits sounded good (local purveyor, chives, cheese) but the execution? No ma'am. No sir. I refuse to believe a southerner put these out for sale. The grits were mealy, gritty and bland. For as enjoyable as my sandwich was, my grits turned my frown rightside round. Awful. I'm giving this place a one stars because the first time I came here The employees were not very rude... Though there were different people on... Today they made me wait 20 minutes for an egg sandwich and when I asked for time on it, they said it will be ready when it is done...He continuously had an attitude with me, couldn't even look me in my eyes... It's seriously great. The hashbrown casserole is really good too--crispy edges, soft in the middle, perfectly seasoned. I appreciate that all items are served in quickly biodegradable packages.
