This place is a hidden gem! Not only was the sushi delicious, everyone who works here is so sweet. The place is small and fills up quickly but our server was extremely attentive. I live in Tampa so it's a solid 35 minute drive for me but it's absolutely worth it when I have the time. My personal favorite is the Sunflower Boat! It's close enough for us to visit weekly, but its more like every two weeks for us. Local sushi and Japanese items on the menu. Always a tight squeeze to get in once they open. They have one of the best dynamite topped rolls I have ever had and always order. Their Korean Bimbinbap is also one of my go-tos when I am not in the mood for sushi but the wife is. For a Monday night 6ish, the place wasn't busy but getting there, we beat the crowd by 10 min...but waited almost 40min from sit to service... too long! After our meal came our waitress didn't check with us not once until called her attention to bring our bill. She was pretty busy up and down the small place, still would have appreciated a courtesy check. Manager did once, so ok. Daughter and I cam here for the first time this past weekend for the sushi lunch special. We ordered a Florida Roll and a Crunchy Roll both of which were horrible because the seaweed paper was so chewy it had to be sealed whole....we both only ate one piece that was how horrible it was. We did let our server know when she asked how the sushi was and they did not charge us for it. I personally will never get sushi here again and would not at all recommend it. Clear soup- one of best clear soups I have ever had, the clear soup here and at Sushi Ninja are the best ever IMO. Tonkotsu Ramen- OMG I can not recommend this enough! I had lunch at Sunflower Cafe last week for a first visit. Service was excellent, a very personable young woman who was attentive but not overly so. I got a bento box with tempura veggies. It included soup, salad, 2 gyozas, fried rice, and a big servibg of tempura onions, zucchini, broccoli, and carrot. The veggies were excellent, with a delicate but crispy batter. The clear soup could have used a little salt (to my taste anyway) and the salad was definitely way too watery. The gyozas and dipping sauce were very flavorful, but the tempura dipping sauce was rather bland. Maybe a little vinegar or seasme oil? The fried rice was tasty. In any case, these wee minor quibbles, easily fixable. I'll be back for sure. read more

I wanted to try something new so I visited this place based on the reviews. However, I don't think I had the same experience that everyone else has had. First things first, there is an unpleasant smell when you walk in like the restaurant is having an issue with a drain line. It was strong and combined with the strong fishy smell, a bit overwhelming. It definitely impacted my ability to enjoy the food. Second, we were seated, immediately gave our drink and app order, and then sat and waited for 22 minutes for our drinks. I was about ready to leave, but then our drinks and apps came out together. We got the gyoza as an app, and it was incredibly under-seasoned and bland. My son got the Beef Udon, my husband got the chicken and shrimp hibachi, and I got the vegetable dolsot bibimbap; they were all under-seasoned. It was hard to eat. Between the smell, the lackluster service, and the bland food, I can't recommend this place. However, the one positive thing I will say, though, is my dish was beautiful so they at least have the presentation down. read more

A lot do their rolls have pretty much the same ingredients and a lot of them also have smoked salmon. The vegetable tempura was the one good thing and one roll wasn't bad. It has been a while since I have been back to Sunflower cafe. I can't remember why I haven't been back, and it may be because there have been so many new restaurants popping up all over the area that I wanted to try. I recently visited twice within the past 3 days. Now I remember why I liked it so much. The service and generous portions are what I remember the most. Many of their menu items come with 2 sides. It's always more than I can eat in one sitting. The hibachi items, fried rice, and yum yum sauce have always been great choices. Mom loves their sweet & sour chicken, and that is what she ordered this past Friday at dinner time. The yum yum sauce was included with the fried rice (without even asking for it). I was looking for the tonkotsu ramen that a Yelp friend had recommended to me recently. I didn't see it on the menu but decided to try the tempura udon noodle soup instead. I'm glad I did. I've never had wheat noodles in this type of broth before and now I understand why people like it so much. It really does soak up the flavor of the broth. It was tasty, and the portion was huge. Did you see the size of the spoon they gave me? I've never had a spoon that size. Anyway, you'd think that the bowl of noodle soup would be enough. Nope, they also give you a plate of tempura shrimp and veggies as well as two extra sides. I'm not joking. I got the steamed veggies and salad with ginger dressing (trying to make healthy choices). LOL! After the whole meal, I asked the server about the ramen. She said it's normally served at lunch but that it can be requested for lunch or dinner. I guess it's kind of a secret menu item or something. I was curious so I placed a takeout order today for lunch. It was another generous portion. The noodles and broth filled up a large white bowl. A bigger portion than other recently opened restaurants that have ramen in their name. It wasn't as fancy because it didn't have the mushrooms, seasoned egg, and black garlic oil. With that said, the pork broth was still creamy and tasty. Thanks Lisa for the recommendation! There was a difference in toppings which made it unique to Sunflower Cafe. It had sweet corn, fish cakes, and these little fried onions that added a crunch to it. It had lots of great flavors. I definitely would order it again. It's not the best I have ever had, but it's still a very good contender. They need to put it on the menu. I'd also like to one day see a vegetable option with sweet potato or kale noodles. That would be awesome! I won't wait to come back this time. It's also a place where the staff remembers you. I hadn't been back since 2016. They still remembered me and that I love the yum yum sauce. The customer service of this place like no other. Every time you walk in and leave they greet you VERY friendly and it seems like they actually appreciate you being there, I wonder if they are family owned. Last time I came here I ordered the ramen and asked how much extra fish cakes would be because my daughter loved them and she brought me a bowl of them for free. There sushi is not good at all in my opinion, it is chewy and bland. I would not waste my money, my mom and I ordered two rolls the Florida roll and crunchy roll. We also order the tonkosku ramen and it was AMAZING! The broth was so flavorful and came with pork, bok choy, ginger, sesame seeds, scallions and fish cakes. I add a little sriracha to mine and it is perfect! Would come back here again and again. The only thing that is missing is the traditional marinated ramen egg.
