This small, casual cafe is great! An extensive menu with everything from Mexican dishes, sandwiches, burgers to pasta entrees and nice fish dishes (tilapia or fish & chips). I had the steak salad (meat cooked to order) and I was bowled over by the large, perfectly grilled steak that covered the ample salad of greens, mushrooms, onions and parmesan cheese. Quite a value. My partner had the chicken quesadillas, and they, too, were excellent. Our tasty dinner was topped with pie for dessert. There were so many kinds to choose from, included their 'famous' pickle pie or pinto bean pie. We opted for classic apple pie and German chocolate cream pie. Both were excellent at the crazy low price of $3.49. Crazy! Our waitress could not have been nicer or more attentive. Really friendly service. My interest was quickly piqued when my coworker/pal told me this business serves up pinto bean pie and pickle pie. Say whattttt? I'm always down for trying something new and especially when its an unexpected flavor combo like pickles...and pie. In the end, we opted for the avocado key lime pie (highly recommend) - in fact, I can taste it in my mouth as I type. The avocado brought a great creaminess to the tart lime flavor. I'm not quite sure why I kicked this review off with dessert but let me backtrack to our entrees - I enjoyed my hearty cobb salad that was topped with bacon, hardboiled egg, cheese and tomato and based on the chow down speed of my companion, he enjoyed his no-frills Mexican eats. I was staying at the associated motel and had dinner here. I wanted to save room for some pie, so I had the blackened Cajun Tilapia over rice. This also came with a side of peas. The fish was cooked properly and seasoned well. I didn't find any fish bones, which is always a plus. The peas were meh, but wasn't expecting much there. They have several unique pies, so I had to make a decision. I couldn't get the 4 pie sampler, as that was too much food. After conferring with the waitress, she recommended the Pinto Bean pie. Based on the name, I was hesitant, but went for it anyway. Turns out it was one of the better pieces of pie I've had. The closest comparison I could make is with Pecan pie, however it wasn't quite as rich or sugary. The dollop of whipped cream was a nice compliment to the pie. If I'm ever back in this part of Utah, I'll be sure to try one of their other unique pies. read more

If you're in Torrey, well good luck, but seriously not much on offer there food wise. Most of the places that were recommended by our motel were randomly, mysteriously closed. UFO abductions perhaps? We ended up having srrsly one of the most bizarre meals I've ever had at a "Mexican" "restaurant" across the street which was open...sort of. But that's another review. Now Sunglow is VERY good. When we got up and were heading out of town and needed a good breakfast we expected that they would be open after a prior evening visit to the Bicknell State Liquor Store (don't miss it!). Fortunately they were open and served us one of the best breakfasts of our entire trip. We got one of their breakfast burritos deconstructed without the tortilla and it was super tasty. Coffee was good, our server was super sweet, super attentive and a great breakfast time was had by all. If you are in the Torrey area it is WELL WORTH the pretty ride over to Bicknell to patronize Sunglow. We could not help but notice their obsession with PIE and a baked goods case with a selection of some far out and down home flavors available in various sizes (see my photo). Our waitress said that the sour cream blueberry was actually her favorite and we threw low-carb to the wind and got a small personal pie to share. She packed it up for us and then later that morning at an I-70 rest area we dug in. It was amazing. So very good from the flaky crust to the luscious fresh filling. So take this all into consideration and, if in the area, get over to Sunglow. You will not be disappointed. read more

Perhaps it's just because they were short staffed, but our breakfast experience here was very poor today. The restaurant wasn't very busy, but the two waitresses seemed overwhelmed. My wife and I waited patiently and without complaint for 45 minutes to receive our food. When it arrived, my wife's dish was incorrect and cold. Mine was average, and the potatoes were undercooked and still a bit crunchy. But we ate it anyhow because we were ravenous by that point. We received our toast and pancakes after the rest of our food was already eaten, and after reminding the staff that our orders weren't yet complete. This was a disappointing experience, and we were surprised that no attempt was made to offer any kind of apology, so presumably this must be a normal occurrence for them. It wasn't normal for us at all. It's hard to screw up breakfast. Eggs, potatoes, toast. Pretty simple really. But this breakfast was way below average. read more

This review is just on pie. That is all we tried and we did try 7 different pies! The 5 stars go towards the famous original crazy pies. The pickle pie was crazy/awesome/original strangely we all liked it. The pinto pie reminded me of a savory pie and it was good too. My hubby really like the buttermilk pie. It was rich and creamy and the oatmeal was like a cookie mated with a pie. Fun to be able to buy the pie sampler and get a little slice of each. Now onto the other pies... coconut- not enough coconut flavor and the whipping cream on all the "other" pies stashed cheap and poor quality ingredients. I would have them hold the whipping cream. The strawberry sour cream was my favorite- wish it had more strawberries my only complaint Peanut butter chocolate was rich and creamy! Fun place to stop on the way to national parks. read more

This place was small and quaint but it wasn't busy so I could take all the time in the world deciding on what I wanted. Staff was nice and helped give suggestions. My hubs got the Bicknell Burger and I got the Mushroom Swiss Burger. My baby settled on the chicken nuggets kids meal. They brought the food out quick and it was fabulously hot. They also brought 3 containers of fry sauce without even having to ask for it. Which I loved. The burgers were very well flavored and tasted wonderful. Both my hubs and i agreed that our burgers could have used just a little more moisture or sauce or something just to make it a bit more moist. The pies I would not recommend. They are famous for their unique flavors but nothing I would buy again. We shared a sampler. They were SUPER sweet. It was fun to try the pickle pie. It's sweet and tangy, that's all I've got to describe it. One of those things you have to try to totally understand. We were both satisfied and enjoyed it and would go again. Wow! Old building attached to a motel, didn't even think it was open. Read a few reviews and decided to go in since it was the only thing around. Glad I did! My father had a country fried steak, and I had a bacon hickory burger. All excellent! The bacon was fresh and fantastic, burger cooked perfectly. And the homemade fries were heavenly. The service was great I ordered a bacon avocado burger with fries and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tenders (no she is not a kid she is 27) anyway this place is great stop to refuel before going into Capital Reef National Park. This place can get crowded due to tour buses stopping here but the restaurant is big so don't worry about that. Lastly there fry sauce and house made BBQ is delicious if your into sauces ! read more

Absolutely amazing service, but the food isn't the greatest. My fiancé and I will readily admit that we are food snobs, and we had a lot of trouble finding a decent place near Capitol Reef. We ate at Cafe Diablo (horrible service, horrible food), the Broken Spur (comical-I ordered salmon and the fish came out white-though service was good here)....and just couldn't find any food that was decent. I realize that the national parks aren't great compared to some of the nicer ski towns like Park City, Sundance, etc...but Capitol Reef is left wanting in the food department. We tried Sunglow on our last night. The place is definitely aged inside and reminiscent of a diner from the 50s. Indica, our waitress was immediately attentive and saw to our every need. She made recommendations, and we had the Pesto Chicken sandwich and the chicken tenders. It took us awhile, b/c nothing on the menu stood out to us. The food came and was mediocre, but the home-made fries were out of this world. The chicken sandwich was so-so, but nothing special. We tried 2 of the pie flavors for dessert and both were pretty good. They were definitely home-made and it's probably their big draw. All in all, probably would eat here again, simply because the competition is so awful, but compared to a place in Park city, etc, it just doesn't hold a candle. We want to make special acknowledgement of Indica, our server. She was incredible and made the experience a memorable one. So attentive and we were left wanting for nothing. This was a nice little surprise out in the middle of nowhere off-season. It was one of the few places that was open. You could tell that the locals come here quite a bit. Warning though. They are taking no Covid precautions at all! The people coming in aren't wearing masks and the people inside are not wearing masks and they are not socially distancing and they are allowing sit down dining. I live in the area, this USE TO BE my favorite restaurant. Had a quaint hometown feeling with a good selection. NOT ANY LONGER... No more plates for food it's all styrofoam and plastic. No longer are you waited on, they've turn it into a fast food joint with quality reduced to match their new business model. Only thing that looked the same were the pies... use to stop occasionally in the afternoon for a slice and hot coffee... now it's thrown on a fake plate and a disposable cup... they even placed garbage containers in the eating area so we can clean our own tables... Meanwhile..prices have increased, menu reduced to pre-made skinny burger patties, quality of food yesterday was horrible... NO THANKS!! read more

We tried the fish n chips and the pesto chicken melt. The melt gets rave reviews from my spouse. The fish was good but not exceptional. The homemade fries were out of this world. We agree with the person who said "In n Out" should have these fries. Ordered the pie sampler and liked all 4 but loved the pinto bean pie. Wish we could try the coconut cream or chocolate cream. We were camping in Capitol Reef and decided we wanted a big, diner-style breakfast. We started driving and stumbled upon Sunglow Cafe and this place DELIVERED. Me and my buddy couldn't have been more pleased with the huge amount of delicious American breakfast foods we received for a totally reasonable price. Each breakfast platter came with generous helpings of meat, eggs, toast and pancakes or waffles or scones. I got the scones with ham and loved it. My buddy got the pancake platter and was equally pleased. The service was helpful and friendly. And we were surprised at how quick the service was on November morning. I'm being generous giving 3 stars. We chose this place purely on Yelp recommendations. People must not know good food. It wasn't awful. It just isn't as good as they say. If you are just looking for adequate food, then okay. Eat here. Maybe it was just what we ordered. I had the Alfredo pasta. Really, how can you ruin a white sauce unless you make it from a can or a powder. It wasn't great. Toast that went with it was okay. Something tasted overly processed about it. Husband had the chili verde. It wasn't green. In fact it was orange! Husband said it was good though. He's easy to please. I asked for a slice of pie to go. They have some very different pies. Pickle, Pinto Bean, Oatmeal, and Buttermilk. I chose the Buttermilk. Later that night I dove into it. It was good if you like very sweet pie with fake whipped topping. Wait staff were really nice.
