Pretty much the only place to eat other than the Rock Garden. We ordered chips and salsa and the mushroom starter which were both very good. Canned beer was refreshing after a long Capitol Gorge Trail hike. Got two tomato bisque soups which were also great and the kids enjoyed their kids burger and fries. My husband enjoyed the trout and I ordered the ribeye medium rare. It came out well done and our waitress was really excellent in taking it back to the kitchen and they brought out a rare steak which was delicious and not over cooked. I appreciated

I would give this restaurant 0 star if I can! Definitely the worst dining experience I had in the entire U.S.! They didn't use good food material to prepare the food, the iron steak tasted no flavor no juice at all, super dry even we requested medium rare! The beef rib also no flavor at all! The trout taste like steam the frozen fish and then grill it, also smell a little bit fishy! The service is super slow, it takes them literally 45 minutes to put our food on the table after we ordered the food! I understand it's holiday season, and they probably short of staff, but if you have no service at all, why you automatically add 18% tip to the bill?! I'm happy to add 20% tips for holiday if their service is ok. BUT NO SERVICE, WHY TIPS?! No matter the service or food, the worst!!!

We went here for dinner last night had the smoked trout dip and orange peel trout. Others had the chicken pot pie. Everything was good

    Flan dessert, I enjoyed it!

I have mixed feelings, on one side, there's not much choice around here, and this place delivers ok food, but on the other side I can't lie and I've got to be honest and score it how I felt in the moment, thus only 3*. The ribeye steak was very good, but it came out very rare, almost raw, while we asked for medium rare. The accompanying mushrooms were very good. The Philly cheesesteak was really not good, you might argue (rightly so) that we shouldn't have ordered it, but hey, it was in the menu. I did not have high expectations, but it somehow managed to go below them... the kids burger was ok. The chips and salsa were outstanding, very fresh and delicious. The flan dessert was ok, very compact and "rough" custard, but I enjoyed it. If the ribeye steak was cooked properly, this would probably be a 4* review.

My family and I stayed at the Capitol Reef Resort, with this restaurant being close by, we thought we would pop in for dinner. The service was excellent and fast. Our server was amazing and gave us some good tips for our drive the next day. The food was so delicious! My sister ordered the steak, and we both agreed that it was one of the best we've ever had. We even came back for breakfast the next morning which was just as good! I ordered the Pioneer Breakfast! Highly recommend if you're passing through or staying!

Pioneer Kitchen is the onsite restaurant inside Capital Reef Resort. There were other options nearby including a food truck, BBQ & pizza across the street, etc but for the convenience we ate here for dinner. I ordered the Tomato soup (soup of the day) and Orange Peel Trout and the Rancher's Beef Burger. The food was decent and not bad at all (the "Resort" itself was horrendous, do not stay there). The service was quick & efficient. We got in and out quickly. Nothing fancy here but not a bad place to have a meal in the middle of the Utah desert.

One of the only place to eat in town. The other option is a pizzeria across the street. We really liked their chicken pot pie

Relatively quick, tasty and affordable. The picture is of their California Omelette which was pretty good and includes toast and fruit. I had the bacon cheddar the day before which was also decent. If you're in a rush though make sure to get their early. The food comes quick once you've ordered but the day before was busy so it took a while before we were able to order the food.

Great little breakfast place at the hotel outside of capitol reef park. Fresh, fast server breakfast for our family, including the 3x pioneer breakfast and pancake, other than the hush brown which were less tasty rest was made really well, and friendly service, worth stopping by!

There aren't too many good options for quality dining in Torrey, but Broken Spur is pretty good. I…read moretried both the Smoked BBQ Brisket ($28) and the Sirloin Steak ($28). The brisket was around average in quality and the flavor was heavily reliant on the BBQ sauce (although that was quite good). It also came with veggies and potatoes on the side. The sirloin steak was also average in quality - nothing special to note. We asked for medium rare, but it was cooked more to a medium. The prices were fair considering the limited options in the area and the type of meat. The restaurant is connected to an inn and it is decorated in an old-timey western style, which I liked. The staff are friendly, although the service speed could have been a bit faster. Overall, while the quality of food was fairly average, I still enjoyed my experience, and given the limited options in Torrey (especially later at night), Broken Spur is still a solid choice.

After trying a few places in town, we found The Broken Spur to be one of the better dinner experiences available. The atmosphere was warm and very "Utah country" in a charming way. Little details like the cloth bandana-style napkins and the rustic mugs for the drinks gave the place personality without feeling overly themed or touristy. The views toward the reef are also beautiful and definitely add to the experience. The service was actually excellent. Our server, Gentry, was incredibly sweet, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout the meal. She made thoughtful recommendations, checked on us appropriately without hovering, and made us feel very welcome. She really elevated the entire experience. We ordered the ribeye and a salad. The salad was fresh, nicely presented, and honestly one of the better parts of the meal. The ribeye itself was okay, perfectly decent, though not especially memorable for us personally. To be fair, we are probably a little spoiled when it comes to steak because we are used to very high-quality grass-fed organic beef, so our standards may not be entirely fair to a small-town steakhouse in the middle of southern Utah. Still, the meal was enjoyable, the biscuits served beforehand was a nice touch, and overall the experience felt comfortable and pleasant after long days exploring Capitol Reef National Park. Overall, this is a solid dining option in Torrey with attentive service, a cozy western atmosphere, and beautiful surroundings. Not necessarily a destination steakhouse, but definitely a good place to relax and enjoy dinner after a day in the park.

Staying in Bicknell after visiting Capitol Reef National park and needed a place to eat dinner…read more This place had lots of positive reviews so this was our choice. Wow! Reviews didn't lie! It's located in Torrey- you can spot the gravel parking lot with lots of cars in front. In fact we actually didn't see the restaurant because there were 2 rows of cars parked in front-a good sign! The menu was varied- from pizza ( more about that later), steak, salads, sandwiches, trout, mexican food. Good selection of alcoholic drinks, beer and soft drinks and even ice cream floats. The meals came with a choice of salad or soup and choice of baked or mashed potato, fries or vegetables. I ordered the steak sandwich which was strips of steak with grilled vegetables -onions and peppers, cheese and a spread of guacamole. It was served on crusty ciabatta bread. I asked for no added salt on the steak and they graciously accommodated me. It was nicely seasoned and didn't need the extra salt. The meat was nice and tender. Hubby ordered the starter dish taco (2) and it had a large piece of battered fried fish. It was crispy and moist. It could be an entree! I saw other diners order the burger and it was thick and large. Another party ordered the large pizza- let me tell you it was huge-almost big as a lazy susan. It could easily feed four or more. And the price was so reasonable- $23 for the premium pizza and $22 for the others. Looking around, all the meals that came out were generously portioned. No wonder the place was full! In spite of the steady flow of customers, the staff was very friendly and helpful and came by to refill waters. We didn't have to wait too long for the food in spite of the busyness. For those wanting a good meal after a day in the park, come here!

The atmosphere is casual, family-friendly, and relaxed. They have both indoor seating and a large outdoor area, which is nice in the evenings when the weather cools down a bit. The service was interesting because it felt very inconsistent depending on who was helping us. The male staff members were attentive, friendly, conversational, and checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. The female servers, on the other hand, seemed distracted and less engaged overall. More than once, we noticed they brought the check without asking whether we wanted dessert or needed anything else. It did not feel rude exactly, just uneven in terms of attentiveness. One thing I really enjoyed was the whiskey sour, which came complete with a little umbrella. I had not had a drink with a tiny umbrella in forever, and honestly it added an unexpected level of vacation happiness to the evening. Sometimes small details carry the mood. The house salad was actually very good, especially because they were generous with the avocado, which immediately earns points in my world. We also had the trout with mashed potatoes. The trout was decent, though a little dry, but still enjoyable enough after a long day outdoors. We noticed a lot of people ordering pizza, so that may actually be one of their stronger menu items, though we decided to skip it this time. Overall, Rock Reef Cafe is a solid, casual option in Torrey. The food was decent, the drinks were fun, the atmosphere was comfortable, and while the service could be more consistent, it was still a pleasant enough experience overall.
