Their most basic smoothies are now $15. I get inflation, but in 2021 that same smoothie was $10. Oh well. I usually make my own smoothies after the gym - I like grass fed whey isolate and none of these places use it. They all use vegan protein powder. But if I'm in a rush and need a premade smoothie I will go to Sunlife over Earthbar. The big perk is that Sunlife has two basic smoothies without extra crap in it - the vanilla and chocolate. Every smoothie at Earthbar has all these adaptogens and nootropics which is fine but I already take all that stuff on my own, don't need extra doses. The basic vanilla and chocolate here are only 19g of protein, but they do taste delicious and are only 220 and 330 calories respectively. The atmosphere is cleaner and friendlier than Earthbar too, which feels so grim and corporate. Here it is sunny and happy. Well, the male employees at least. They are all extremely nice. SunLife Organics in Malibu (est. 2011) created the original $32.95 "Billion Dollar" smoothie a few years back, long before all the buzz about the Erewhon smoothie. You can get one here in WeHo at this location, too. It's made with young thai coconut meat, spinach, raw cashew butter, colostrum, chlorophyll, aloe vera, collagen, green superfoods blend, silica, grass-fed whey protein isolate, spirulina, MCT oil, mushroom blend (chaga, reishi, cordyceps, shiitake, maitake, turkey tail, agaricus, meshima, tremella and lion's mane), tocos (rice bran solubles) and hemp milk. My personal fave is the "Blue Majik" smoothie (made with E3 Live spirulina) because it looks pretty. The menu states that "all ingredients are certified organic, wild-crafted, or grown 100% pesticide free". They also have avocado toast, açaí bowls, bone broth, fresh juices and coffee. The bananas were brown and they didn't even put in blueberries like the menu stated. The strawberries were mushy as well and tasted off. Not a grilled sandwich at all--just two sad slices of cheese slapped between plain bread. No grilling involved. Absolutely ridiculous! Turns out it's called Fountain of Youth, contains fruit I actually don't mind along with other things but overall, I ended up finishing this off. Keep in mind that this is more of a health smoothie, so if you're expecting something sweeter, you will definitely need to add extra sweetener. Never again will I come to your store. The food is great. But today your staff particularly a male worker who was in the back came out as I was trying to assure that I wasn't being overcharged. He tried to intimidate me and made me feel truly uncomfortable. I am not a Karen. And he was wrong. Do better. ---- On Thursday March 20th at during the 1:53pm I went to your West Hollywood Store. I ordered the same smoothie that I did last week. Michael made it last week for me and mentioned that he added Goji berries. To be clear I had no idea that these were not included in with my smoothie. The assistant general manager a woman whose name starts with an A was beyond unfriendly had charged me for the goji berries. I explained to her that I had not been charged before. She had already run up the transaction and asked me to complete the transaction and said "I will void it.. the $19.00 She then charged me $17.00. Generally when a transaction is voided I am given a receipt that indicates this .. The Assistant general manager said she couldn't give me a receipt for this.. But I was not ok with that. And wanted to assure that I wasn't being charged for 2 smoothies. She didn't fully understand that but to be honest she was just rude about it all and could have used this help me understand your menu better etc. But she did stay professional as I grew more concerned. My complaint is not in reference to her fully. It is however very much about an African American male who was in the back working who suddenly appeared by her side and stared at me menacingly. I want to be very clear that I am WOC so I am including his race a a description and identifier. I felt beyond uncomfortable and like he was trying to intimidate me. I was trying to make sure that I was not being overcharged. And if he was listening through perhaps some surveillance he should not have treated me as such. He stood there staring at me and I asked her if he was the manager. It was bizarre and NOT OK. Once the assistant manager fully understood my concern she came around the front of the store and took the time to show me that only one transaction was registered. She did assure me that if the $19.00 appeared she would take care of it.. Again this same male went to the bathroom and was staring at me in a menacing super uncomfortable way as if he was a bouncer or security guard. No customer who is advocating to make the are paying double she be subject to his non-verbal stares and attitude. I asked the assistant general manager why was he standing there staring at me she stated that this was because he needed to ask her a question. I don't buy that.. He has no idea the nuance of the conversation and was intimidate me and frankly not cool. You all have lost a customer of life. I want to be clear that of course your staff should be treated with respect.And at no point was a threatening to her or anyone. I wanted to be sure I wasn't being charged for 2 smoothies. SunLife is a small smoothie shop primarily catering to the sexy and sweaty post-Soulcyclers (and Equinoxers) as these gyms are located in the same complex. I ordered a Dirty Monkey Latte - something I only see on their website ordering menu, and not on the physical menu or any other ordering platform--weird! It was good. Ingredients tasted quality and fresh, I just wished for more of a spice punch. The surrounding space has great outdoor seating, and you'll be amongst WeHo's fittest and finest. The staff is kind, they somehow processed my order as "ready for pickup" before even making it, so they prepared it right away with a smiley face drawn on the cup. What more can you ask for? After waiting several minutes while the staff member was going through each shake on the menu with the customer, I asked if I could get my shake that was sitting in the blender. You would have thought I asked for a miracle . She was so annoyed that I asked, she poured it into a cup without finishing and walked away. I asked that she finished it, and she seemed even more annoyed. I apologized for bothering her and left. The consistency was off, it was a glorified milk-alternative-peanut-butter-protein-powder-heavy drink that had a price tag to match. My friend got the Matcha Goddess which seemed better on the flavor but still lacked correct consistency. Going to school in Malibu years ago SunLife Organics was everything, to everyone, and given Khalil's story it's been great seeing him succeed. SunLife isn't perfect, but it routinely gets the job done albeit for a price that could be considered by some as absurdly high. Star 1: How was the Service and Atmosphere? Yes, especially in this age of covid you've got a lot of new workers who aren't exactly running a well oiled machine. The wait can grow long, but this is remedied by just ordering ahead on what is a super streamlined and effective app. Use that. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Yes. SunLife Organics is absurdly expensive for what it is. Sure, some shakes have some expensive premium ingredients, but even the ones that definitely don't you're looking at $10-$12 for something that probably has $2.00 of ingredients in it. It's genius honestly from a business perspective, but yes of course you can absolutely do this for cheaper at home with a vitamix. No Star. Stars 3 & 4: How was the food? It might be expensive, but this stuff is good. Some truly unique ingredients in some of the more exotic flagship shakes go beyond what you can easily whip up, and the various customization options through the app can make it such that you get exactly what you want.
