Unfortunately the cream filling was over the ratio of the bread combination itself and just wasn't a great tasting pastry. I love Sunmerry but it was my first time visiting this specific location. I was very pleased to find their selection as plentiful despite being one of the smaller locations and busier. The store is a bit small so if the line gets long you'll probably end up having to move through people to get your bread as the line is formed around the aisles. I got the lava bread and the garlic cream cheese bread. I love their garlic cream cheese bread. Definitely recommend! And reasonably priced too. Overall I wouldn't come to this location unless I was actually in the mall but definitely worth stopping by if I'm here! read more

Sunmerry offers both sweet and savory pastries and baked goods like cake, bread, cookies. It even has drinks to accompany your carb-based treat. By all means, it is not the best bakery in the SGV, but it gets the job done. They even have specials like buy 3 get 1 free pastry, buy 2 get 1 day-old pastry, and 2 mochi donut for $5. These deals are worth considering, IMO. I got the buy 2 get 1 day-old deal and it came out to be about $5. A pretty sweet deal, especially considering I had dinner waiting at home and I was just seeking a carbo-boost to last me till dinner. This place is located inside the Santa Anita mall on the second floor. It's a cute little spot not very large and no seating but that's ok there is plenty of seating around the mall. I'm obsessed with mochi donuts so this place fuels my obsession. Dare I say I like them better than regular donuts. They also have a variety of breads and desserts. I don't see much of a selection of cakes if your searching for something like for a birthday but plenty of yummy treats. They also have tea and bubble waffles made to order. I think it's a small gem of a place for something sweet especially the mochi donuts. Everything looks tasty and it's hard to go wrong with anything dessert. If your at the mall try this place. They get busy here. It's in the center of the mall on the second floor so I makes sense. Got the Oreo milk tea and a Ruby brad. The tuna bread seems to have shrinked in size. But it tastes the same. THE GOODS: (1) CREAM PUFFS ($1): Recently, they've been having a deal on cream puffs, so I decided to give it a try. And I wasn't disappointed. It's best eaten fresh. The whipped cream is cold and light! (2) BERRY CREAM CHEESE: Similar to the Berrytale at 85 Degrees, it is sweet bread with a blueberry cream cheese filling and a dollop of blueberry jam on top. You can't go wrong with this combo! (3) BLACK SESAME MOCHI BREAD: like its name suggests, it's soft bread with a black sesame and mochi filling. One of my favorites! I came on a Saturday afternoon and their was a good crowed of people at the mall. Thankfully, the line at Sunmerry was short, so I was able to get my bread and pay within minutes. I did have a wait a bit for my drinks though. For drinks, I ordered their boba milk tea with 70% sugar. This drink tasted okay at this location (Temple City tasted better). Taiwanese bakeries are known for their lightly sweetened milk teas. On their menu, the very extraordinary salted cheese green tea had a moment of locked eyes with me. First of all, the cup is tall and slender, presentation has a classy taste. The tea itself is on point, refreshing, mildly bitter. One of my favorite Asian style bakeries in San Gabriel Valley. Sunmerry has plenty of choices if you go early because by the end of the night it is pretty bare. My favorite patties to pick up are the green onion bread, mushroom bread and also this store is inside the Santa Anita Mall on the second floor. So if you are shopping and feeling like you want a snack, you could stop by here and get something! The inside of this store smells so good that you would really want to pick up a lot more different styles of bread. Weird that people think this place is better than 85 or cheaper, because I found the prices to be 0.75c+ higher than comparable pastries than 85. Not to mention that everything I got was blander. I picked out the cheese loaf, taro bun, and walnut cookie. Everything tasted slightly above a C, but there was nothing stand out about any of those pastries. I think they have some quirky interesting choices...like their taro cake, but I didn't get to try it. New bakery has just opened inside the Santa Anita mall. They have a few of my favorite things. The hottest pastry right now is the Korean cheese garlic bread. It's trending on the internet right now. Everybody is talking about it. It's indeed very good with cream cheese and garlic butter. We bought one to share among ourselves as the cream cheese was too rich for me to eat it alone. Another popular item here is the boba tart. It seems like nowadays, everything is good with boba. The tart was not too bad and the bobas in it were very tender and chewy. I also bought a strawberry cupcake. The cupcake was very fluffy. It reminded me of the paper egg cupcake I had in other Chinese bakeries. The bakery is also having a promotion going on for their boba milk tea, buy one and get one for free. I don't know how good is their boba milk. Will try it next time. read more

Love this Taiwanese bakery chain that is now at the mall. Located on the second floor by Forever 21 and Gold's Gym sort of diagonally across from Din Tai Fung. The freshly baked bread are soft yet with a good al dente texture. The mango cream cheese boroh is my favorite. Curry donuts and taro breads are tasty too. They also have cheese tarts and egg tarts as well as an assortment of beautifully decorated cakes. Go for the salted cheese teas and pudding custard in glass containers as well. Sunmerry Bakery seems to be taking each city by storm as I have observed that many have popped up recently. They specialize in Asian pastries, cakes, and other baked goods and have a tea section. I went into the bakery without reading any yelp reviews or hearing much about it prior to tasting the food and all in all I had a pretty good experience. I ended up getting the hot milk tea, cheese tart, and Portuguese egg tart. The cheese tart and the Portuguese egg tart were both really good and I would definitely get both of those again if I come back. The hot milk tea was better than I anticipated too and a perfect pairing to the pastries I got. I think it's a solid place for pastries and cakes but at the same time it's nothing very outstanding so for that I just give it a general good rating of 4 stars read more

I rank them way above 85 Degrees, because I just find 85 to be hella overrated and overpriced just for the sake of aesthetics (their breads all taste the same, come on). Not quite as homey and comforting as JJ, but still excited to see one in the mall now. Just keep on mind this bakery is much smaller than other Sunmerry locations, so they might not carry everything you are looking for. Additionally, they just opened, so some menu items might change! As with any bakery, their food is good when fresh. I came early in the morning and got... - Deluxe egg and ham sandwich, which had a crispy croissant-like bread hugging a slab of steamed egg and slice of ham. Tasty. - Shiitake and cheese bread, which is salty shiitake over sweet brioche. Flavors are a little out there, but it's still unique and worth a try. - Cheese tarts. SUPER GOOD. I love these Hokkaido cheese tarts. The crust is firm and buttery, and the filling has a pleasant soft whipped consistency. Not too sweet. - Pumpkin matcha croissant. If you like pumpkin, this is great. It's filled with pumpkin puree inside the croissant and also layered onto the dough. The drinks are good as well. I do think they should set up some seating outside the bakery, like Peet's used to when they occupied the space. Unfortunately I went during around 4:30 pm so they were low on pastries and did not have alot of selection so I would advise that you go earlier in the day. I ended up getting the last green tea croissant and a taro bread. I tried to green tea croissant and it was good with a taste of matcha powder here and there.The location is pretty small so the line can get long but they move fairly quickly. I was there for the boba egg tart but unfortunately they were out. I asked the cashier but did not get a direct answer and wasn't really helpful. Their store is small but they seem to always have a lot of customers. I got their shredded pork bun and also the taro bread. The shredded pork was good but I didn't like the taro bread so much. They also have I believe mochinuts. I tried the sesame and green tea flavor before and it was pretty good. They also have other selections too but I never got to try them since theres a good variety of bread. Tried bolo bun and shredded pork bun. Really good. I think both are better than 85C. However, service at this place is horrible. I went on a Saturday. There were two staff members. One was stocking the shelves. The other one was washing something behind the cash register. I was the only guest. While I was checking out the selections, the girl putting things on the shelves did not acknowledge me and treated me as invisible even when I was right next to her checking out the selections but trying my best not to block her way. That's fine, she's busy. I understand. After picking out what I wanted, I went to the cash register. I waited (and didn't mind) cuz the staff member was washing stuff. After a few minutes, I said "hello" politely a few times trying to grab her attention. She never turned around. And the girl stocking the shelves continued with what she was doing even though I'm pretty sure she could hear me. I thought about leaving, but I was pretty hungry and wanted to eat something ASAP. After a while, the girl stocking the shelves finally came to the cash register and I finally paid. Around the same time, the other girl finished washing and turned around. Never once did they have any smile and both looked like they hated their jobs. It was a pretty horrible experience. I completely understand people have their days/moments. But when you are in retail and service industry, it's your job to provide at least a decent service. I don't need them to smile ear to ear, but at least be polite like how we all should treat each other. The location in Atlantic Time Square offers much much better service. We stopped by the other day to grab a couple sweets and a drink. Since it's COVID times, the mall was relatively empty. It was probably also because it was a random Thursday afternoon. There's no clear sign of where to go to line up. We had to ask someone if he was in line-- he wasn't and said he and everyone else were just waiting, then pointed us to where to stand and wait to order. After we were done and waiting, a girl came up to us to ask us and the people around us the same, "Hi, sorry, are you in line?" Which means it wasn't just us. The employees were unbearably sloooooooww... It wasn't overly busy when we had ordered. Only one person in line ahead of us but so many other groups standing around waiting for their order. We bought several cakes and ordered their one of their strawberry drinks. There was one cashier and one other person making the drinks and Hong Kong waffles. The one making the drinks moved like molasses. Just. So. Slow. OMG, are you completely unaware of all the people waiting for their orders? It took us almost twenty minutes for our one drink. The cashier just stood around at the register, even when there was no one in line. So she could've easily helped out. The one making the drinks also wore a really long ponytail. That was not okay. If you're working in the food industry and your hair goes past your chin, it needs to be covered. I've had way too many experiences with finding LONG strands of hair in my food. I can't be having someone with a big, dangling chunk of hair with prepping or making my food. It's just not acceptable. Wrap it up in a hairnet! read more

Their cream puffs here are amazing! They don't look particularly special while they're sitting in the glass case, but once I took a bite of one, I knew it was great! The cream filling is just the right balance of creamy and light. It's not too light that it feels like I am eating air, but it's definitely not heavy either. I would get these again. They do have drinks here such as teas and boba milk teas. They also make egg waffles, which I didn't try. I was hoping to try their donuts, but so many of them had totally melted icing sticking to the wrapping. Not sure what was going on there. If you visit here later in the day, you might find there are fewer selections available. However, that shouldn't be surprising since most bakeries don't put out a bunch of new items close to closing. read more

TL;DR: (I'm just here for the boba) Good tea/boba with a delicious lemon twist from Happy Lemon in a store branded only for the Sunmerry bakery for some weird reason. AMBIANCE: I will always weigh the product/food/drink more heavily than the service or facilities, but this place is a little strange. It's in the Santa Anita mall near Jins, and it only says Sunmerry on the top, but they also have Happy Lemon boba there, it's just not as blatantly advertised. Why?! It also seemed like it was fairly new and not running the smoothest. There was a promo for a free topping with a Yelp check-in, but the cashier couldn't figure out how to put it in the system, and it took the person she asked a while to enter it manually. THE MENU: It seemed more limited than other Happy Lemon stores, when comparing it to the one in Monterey Park. But I chose the lemon black tea with boba, and then the owner told me it would take 5 minutes because he had to make more. It seemed like he didn't really want to do it right then and there... but he did. It was fine. I didn't mind waiting! BOBA/TEA: The same high quality Happy Lemon I expected. I like it 50% sweet so I can taste the sourness of the lemon rather than it tasting like lemonade. For some reason I always go and their bread stock is quite low. I guess they run out very early and stop replenishing at a certain time. I've only tried their tuna bread. Tuna baked into a croissant like pastry. It had a sweet taste to it. It was like brushed with sugar on top. Not a fan of the sugar, but overall a tasty bread choice. When ordering their cashier screens have promotions for free topping if you check into yelp. When I checked in I didn't get the free topping coupon show, but the staff honored it when they saw my check in. I don't know if it's because it's not on yelp anymore or not. I like their lemon green tea. It is very tart if you get no sugar. Just how I like it. Terrible. We went to get an afternoon snack of a pineapple charsiu bun and an egg tart. I was skeptical of the charsiu bun because it looked slightly greasy, but the bread itself was not that bad. However, I pulled it open to find raw-looking pork in the center. It wasn't even the red food coloring that many charsiu centers have, it was straight up raw meat color. It was disappointing and frankly terrifying, so we barely touched that bun. The egg tart wasn't much better. It tasted decent, but the custard was almost gelatinous.
