TL;DR: (I'm just here for the boba) Good tea/boba with a delicious lemon twist from Happy Lemon in a store branded only for the Sunmerry bakery for some weird reason. AMBIANCE: I will always weigh the product/food/drink more heavily than the service or facilities, but this place is a little strange. It's in the Santa Anita mall near Jins, and it only says Sunmerry on the top, but they also have Happy Lemon boba there, it's just not as blatantly advertised. Why?! It also seemed like it was fairly new and not running the smoothest. There was a promo for a free topping with a Yelp check-in, but the cashier couldn't figure out how to put it in the system, and it took the person she asked a while to enter it manually. THE MENU: It seemed more limited than other Happy Lemon stores, when comparing it to the one in Monterey Park. But I chose the lemon black tea with boba, and then the owner told me it would take 5 minutes because he had to make more. It seemed like he didn't really want to do it right then and there... but he did. It was fine. I didn't mind waiting! BOBA/TEA: The same high quality Happy Lemon I expected. I like it 50% sweet so I can taste the sourness of the lemon rather than it tasting like lemonade. Terrible. We went to get an afternoon snack of a pineapple charsiu bun and an egg tart. I was skeptical of the charsiu bun because it looked slightly greasy, but the bread itself was not that bad. However, I pulled it open to find raw-looking pork in the center. It wasn't even the red food coloring that many charsiu centers have, it was straight up raw meat color. It was disappointing and frankly terrifying, so we barely touched that bun. The egg tart wasn't much better. It tasted decent, but the custard was almost gelatinous. For some reason I always go and their bread stock is quite low. I guess they run out very early and stop replenishing at a certain time. I've only tried their tuna bread. Tuna baked into a croissant like pastry. It had a sweet taste to it. It was like brushed with sugar on top. Not a fan of the sugar, but overall a tasty bread choice. When ordering their cashier screens have promotions for free topping if you check into yelp. When I checked in I didn't get the free topping coupon show, but the staff honored it when they saw my check in. I don't know if it's because it's not on yelp anymore or not. I like their lemon green tea. It is very tart if you get no sugar. Just how I like it. This bakery serves Happy Lemon drinks so they are known for their lemon drinks as well as the cream cheese foam I believe. I'll have to try the foam drink next time! read more

Such an amazing Bakery. I've gone to Irvine and Temple City locations too. They are better then 85 degrees! On the second level of the Arcadia Mall, right next to Nordstrom. You must try. Their Green Tea Croissants, Ham and Cheese Danishes, Nutella buns, Taro Bolo, Coconut Raisin, Coffee Brioche, Sun Berry, White Chocolate Latte, Green Onion, Hot Dog Danish, and everything with Ube is amazing. I am working on trying them all. Never disappointed, and so excited for this Bakery and its growth. Prices are so fair, and the employees work with heart. Absolutely love this place! For someone who's from Chicago, there aren't a whole lot of Taiwanese-based bakeries. Knowing that there's a ton in LA, this is one of my favorites so far. For a smaller mall store, there is a wide selection of pastries, breads, buns, cakes, and other treats. There weren't any labels on some of the sliced cakes in the case, but the worker I spoke to was incredibly helpful and came around front to give some tidbits about each option they had. He gave a personal recommendation for the mango mousse, which I have to agree is probably the best cake selection they have - light chocolate cake base with a thin layer of chocolate, and a smooth mango mousse making up the rest of the cake with a blackberry on top. I will say I think the chocolate slightly overpowered the mango flavor, but overall it was still really good. The dirty bun was another favorite of mine - a small puff pastry with chocolate inside, with cocoa powder coating the entire treat. I ordered the following: Hokkaido Cream Single - This little cake on the shelf doesn't look that interesting but it was the best item I tried. The cream was so delicious. I would come back just to get this anytime. Shokupan Egg Sandwich - fluffy egg with mayo on bread. Not bad but some people might find it too blend or plain. Ham and Egg Bread - It was okay. Not bad. Bolo Bread - Every bakery makes their version of bolo bread differently. This one is no exception. Not bad. Mochi Taro Bread - I couldn't taste the mochi. Taro filling was a little on the sweet side for me. Mochi Black Sesame Bread - I didn't taste the mochi. Probably just me. Black Sesame was a little too sweet for me. I prefer less sweet desserts. This bakery is upstairs where the old peets coffee shop used to be located on the forever 21 wing of the mall. The pastries are fresh and you choose your own selection using clean tongs and a paper lined tray. If you spend $15 or more you get a free drink of their selection. I spent over $15 and ordered an oolong tea drink yesterday and forgot to pick it up when I paid. I hope they can give me one on my next visit. If you check into the yelp app you get a free drink topping. They also serve cakes and beverages. The quality of their buns taste similar to 85 degrees. Super cute spot that opened in the mall not too long ago. They have bakery items and you can pick what you want and pay at the register. I noticed so many assortments of items I really wanted, but my luck I got here near closing time, so there wasn't much left. I got 3 puff pastries, which were a tad pricey and their green tea with the signature cream cheese topping. I also used my Yelp check-in to get the topping for free. Not worth it. This location is tiny and the bread/pastry selection is really lacking compared to their other locations. The set up in the store is puzzling, basically all the assortment of baked goods are squished towards one corner of the store. There was not much room to move around with other shoppers trying to browse and make their selections at the same time. Like the other Sunmerry locations, this one also provides drinks from the Happy Lemon brand. Unfortunately, their drink selection is also lacking with many drink items not available on the menu at this location compared to the others. I asked one of the employees if this was because they had just opened recently and they are still adjusting and will be expanding their menu over time but the employee had no idea. I ended up ordering a regular tea with boba which was tasteless. On the positive side, the quality of the breads remain the same as their other bakery locations. Too bad everything else does not rise up to expectations. I would still prefer to go to other nearby locations for a better selection both in baked goods and drinks than stopping by here. But for a quick snack while doing your shopping at the mall, it will suffice. read more

Very professional staff. The employees had masks on and used gloves when handling food and drinks. The man operating the register was also getting the desserts from the fridge.
