Line was long and service was slow as expected we are in the middle of a pandemic. The wrost part of the transaction was paying with credit card and still asked to sign the dirty screen (yuck). The screen was not clean between customers. The major credit companies don't require signatures anymore. I could easy sign "poop" the cashier isn't checking why request it. The baked goods are not fresh especially around the late afternoon. I try not to compare them with 85c degree because they are literally not edible. We bought a bunch of pastries for the company and most of them end up not edible because they are hard as a rock. I don't know what's the hype about this bakery but I will not be back even though my work is like 5 minutes away. If you try to put them in the refrigerator for like a day or two, you better throw it away. 85c degree is still the best! read more

I have been coming here for coffee for the last 2 years. Their coffee used to be the best in the greater area. But they switched coffee beans last month and it is the worst now. It has a acidic taste and a terrible after taste. I gave it a couple of tries at this place as well as the other in nearby Monterey Park. They both switched coffee beans and are both terrible. I would not go back until they switch back to the previous coffee beans. All my friends noticed that too. read more

With the low review rate on yelp, I was hesitate to try out this rather new bakery in the area. I just don't see myself driving further for another "85 degree copy" or you can call it "85 2.0" while 85 is losing place in my heart. After trying this place for several times, I love it. It actually reminds the days when 85 degree first open in OC and I drove all the way to the irvine location just to get my "bread fix". Boy, they were good! six years ago.... because this pregnant woman just can't stand the air pumped asian bread around 626 and need to drive an hour just to get bread! Now, 85 opens everywhere and I wouldn't even go inside cause I feel like their bread selection is so limited....for some weird reason, their bread taste "not as fresh and soft as before".....and I am not their fan for their cakes and coffee. I didn't mean to trash 85, I still like 85 compare to most asian bakery around....however, when I first bite into sunmerry bakery bread, I was thrilled....and after going there several times after, I have decided this is my top asian bakery around the area. Frances in little tokyo is still the best in terms of cake quality. JJ is good too but again, the bread is not as soft and fresh as SB. I bought tiramisu and black forrest cake, they are both good. Like their black forrest, you can actually find cherry in the cake versus jello. their scones use blueberries instead of raisin. It's details like that made a bakery stands out in my eyes. And don't forget, the main thing is....their bread is soft and yummy. and they have both sweet bread and non sweet bread lying around. I hate going to 85 not having any savory bread with me cause their selection is so limited, with JJ...selection is better but there is something lacking in their bread. SB fits the bill for me, loyal program is good, it's free and you can ask the cashier to sign up with your email and everytime you can input the email and you can 1-2 dollar discount, pretty neat! and the people are nice there too, bonus! so hope bakery like that can continue to grow and please don't do what 85 did....making only one or two bread that you are popular in....and stop making other bread. diversity and variety is always awesome! read more

Highly recommend by two 80 year old Italian women. Weekly I take treats to my mother-in-law and her sister. They prefer jelly donuts, but as the times have changed donut shops are fewer and Asian bakeries abound. I personally welcome the change. They are less than enthusiastic. Numerous attempts to sway them have failed until today. Happened upon this place by happy accident. What a hit everything was. Chocolate bun (croissant dough filled with bits of chocolate and heavily coated with chocolate) was the first to go. Next the pudding bun, light dough with vanilla pudding inside fell to the knife shortly after the chocolat e bun was eaten. The tuna bun, bought on a whim because the fellow next to me was buying several, was a delight. Dog liked it too. Mixture of sweet and spicy tuna in a light dough with a crispy top. Several other selections were eaten as the morning progressed. Each pronounced excellent. I will return, now that I am a rewards club member. Coffee very strong and generously sized and the place is super clean with a friendly staff. read more

This review is more for their cakes. I got the Strawberry Cream Cake the night before for a holiday party and it was a big hit. The cake was so fluffy even though it sat in my refrigerator the whole day and tasted really light and fresh. It was one of the better cakes I've had from a Chinese bakery. The breads always look fresh and beautiful but I haven't gotten to try any of them yet. I would definitely order cake from them again for birthdays or any other special occasion. read more

This is my most favorite bakery. Their bread is very soft and always fresh, no matter what time of the day I go. Their white toast stays soft for more than 3 days and you can tell from the quality of their baked goods that they spend a lot of time baking it. Their sesame bun is one of my favorite. Lots of grounded black sesame seeds and there is a thin layer of mocha inside. Yum! I haven't gotten any of their drinks so I don't know the quality of it to comment. Their cakes are okay but you won't be disappointed if you buy their bread. It's a little pricey, about $2/bread but you are getting what you pay for. I also like their points system and it's via your email or credit card you purchased with so you don't need to carry a stamp card like some bakeries offer. read more

I heard about sun merry from my friend when I visited Irvine( first store) and I was pretty excited to visit this new location. Unfortunately, the customer service was pretty bad and let me just tell you this they are at their soft open so they open at 12 pm and I accidentally walked in the store at 11:59 am and the lady said we open at 12 pm. I was thinking alright fine you guys wanna be punctual, that's fine with me. So I opened the door and step out then there you go 12 pm so I walked in ( why am I playing the swing door game with them anyways?!) Another worker walk in from the front door and tell me * we open at 12.* I tell him look at the time it is 12 right now and he just goes o then laugh with the other worker. I guess this is typical Asian service ( hey don't get offensive.I am Asian I know exactly what is happening right now) Only 1/5 of the bread is out. I made online order for a birthday cake two days before I pick up the cake. I went there they don't have my order, I have to looking for the receipt in my Email. So if I don't find my receipt I can't pick it up, it's a birthday cake...........And the point is the cake is not made in fresh I can see the crack. But I did exchange other one. This is just another Taiwan bakery chain opening in U.S. Though it has fresh bread, it does not deserve 5* because there is nothing special you can not get elsewhere. Flavor in these bread is pretty blend, nothing surprising. Selection though decent, many are same thing just look different. Taiwan Bakery don't just bake, where is the fried bread? My friend introduced me to this bakery, and my family absolutely love the pastries. It's not overwhelming load of butter. I love the freshness of the pastry and variety selections the baker has. Their staff are so friendly. Although they have a Reward Bakery which they should mention to their customer to promote and in hope their customers purchase more but they rarely mention it to the customers unless you read the flyers posted on the entrance door. The only complaint that I have about this place is the aprons that the employees are wearing. They are dirty and greasy. I would like to suggest to the owners/managers to toss them out periodically. Heard great things about the Irvine branch , so I decided to check out this place. Upon walking inside, it felt so much like an 85 degree bakery. That isn't a compliment. The workers would squeeze the bread when putting it in display , causing the bread to transform into a weird shape. Also, the brioche looked undercooked. I left with just a grapefruit green tea which was quite delicious. However, I stood in front of the register to get my order taken and the worker did not seem completely alert of my presence, or that she was at work. All in all, the quality of the bread didn't seem too impressive and it looks to be run by young adults. read more

There is a variety of baked goods and it's awesome to see them putting out fresh goods. I got the chocolate danish, sugar donut, custard bun, and a almond croissant. I should start off by saying that my friends love the drinks here. I myself have never actually ordered a drink off the menu but from the sips I've gotten of theirs, it's quite good. They normally get the salted cheese green tea which I thought would be strange but honestly it's tasty. You get a hit of salty sweet and then the layer of tea comes in to brighten it up. Well today, I went and bought a tiramisu slice of cake. My friend loves tiramisu and since her bday was coming up, I thought I would taste test sunmerry's to see if I would order her cake from here. Conclusion: Definitely not. One of my pet peeves about cake is that it cannot be dry and unfortunately the cake layer in the tiramisu was like sandpaper in my mouth. Instead of the melt in your mouth you're supposed to get since the sponge should be soaked in coffee liquor or some type of syrup, I could feel the texture of dry sponge. It's very hard for me to move past the cake layer and make a judgment on the cream. Must have been quite forgettable. Very sad for me because honestly the price point for the whole 9" cake is very reasonable. The disappointing slice of cake is why I knocked down a star. read more

Been getting watered down tea when I ordered the new strawberry drinks. I even ask for extra sugar but they can't even do that so it is just fruits and lychee jelly in water. I ordered the black tea but the liquid is clear. Does the strawberries and lychee create a chemical reaction to make the tea clear and taste like water and neutralizes the glucose?
