Morning of the party, I found this amazing mom and pop bakery that will take orders same day with at least 2-3 hours notice. It's located in a plaza with the Northgate Market so free parking. Small front area, very little on display but it was 5pm when I was there. They had a steady stream of people picking up. When I called to order, they worked with me on customizing cake and fillings. The young girl in front, probably the daughter, also let me text her ideas and inscription. They accept credit cards! no deposit over the phone was needed. Pick up did take about 15 min because they didn't do the inscription before I got there- probably in case I didn't come. And the fruit tarts are preorder only and they assembled them when I got there. Everyone loved it all! The fruit tarts were sweet- but not overly! The cakes were great if you don't like too sweet. And these were the lightest Chinese sponge cakes I've ever had... and we have them all the time! They even make a strawberry tres leches that I want to try next time!! TC has been in El Monte for many years and is still in business. They have some of the best selections in cakes. They are a family owned business and their service is great. The quality of their products is excellent. The location is a small bakery with a certain selection of single slice cakes for sale. I first tried their Black Forest cake a few years back and that is my number one cake but only from TC Bakery no one else does it like them. They have this delicious chocolate bread that I've only had from them. Till this day I don't think anyone has been able to tell me otherwise. The place is very welcoming and they're open 7 days a week. They don't have a seating area to eat but they are very clean and well organized. Definitely giving them 10 because they deserve it. BF ordered my birthday cake this year from TC Bakery. It's one of the best I've had so far! He phoned in the order of a mango cake and it was ready promptly at the given time. The thick generous slices of mango on the cake were super fresh, along with the fruits decorating the top and the mango pieces inside the cake. The cake itself was light and fluffy. Even the frosting was light too! You can tell the cake was freshly made. For the price of $39 for an 8 inch cake, it was well worth what you're getting. They also handwrite the messages you'd want on the cake with the double white and red frosting, reminding me of the old school Asian cake writing we'd get back then. To top it off, I was very impressed with the cake box. Not a single piece of tape needed to keep the box closed! Whoever made their cake box cleverly incorporated easy lift cardboard tabs within the box design to keep it nicely closed. Big points for a box that can be easily recycled when clean! I've ordered cakes from TC Bakery several times in the past and have always been pleased with the quality. However, this review is strictly about my recent experience with their customer service, which was deeply disappointing. On Wed 5/14, I placed a phone order with Karen Li. All the details were confirmed, and I specifically asked if the cake could be ready for pickup by 9:00-10:00 AM on Sat 5/17. Karen mentioned they open at 10:00 AM but requested a 10:30 AM pickup to allow enough prep time. I agreed, no problem--however, I clearly and politely emphasized that the cake needed to be ready by 10:30 AM, as I had to leave for a trip to San Diego that morning. I arrived on time, but the cake was nowhere near ready--in fact, it looked like they were just starting on it. I waited, expecting it to be done shortly, but 30 minutes later, I was still waiting. The worst part of the experience was the incredibly rude and dismissive attitude from the woman at the front. She kept yelling things like, "SHE IS TOO BUSY," at me and other customers. Frankly, that's not our problem--especially when the delay was on their end. Her behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable. If she cannot multitask or handle a busy morning with respect and grace, she should not be interacting with customers at all. Additionally, Karen Li requests full payment in advance, which I zelled & was fine with--but if payment is required upfront, the least I expect is timely service and professional treatment. Karen Li, your lack of response to my text about this incident only reinforced the feeling that customer service is not a priority at your bakery. There are many other bakeries in the area. I chose to support yours--but after this experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I needed a chinese vanilla cake with strawberries on Dec 29 so a few days prior I started calling my usual bakery (Dragon Bakery) to place an order, but no one answered the phone. On Dec 28 when I still couldn't get through to Dragon bakery I started to panic a little because I didn't know where to get my cake. I was afraid there wouldn't be enough time to place an advance order and there wouldn't be a cake I wanted if I went to a bakery the day of. I was going to give up and just order from JJ bakery or 85c when I decided to do one last search on yelp and found this TC Bakery. It was a little further from my house, but I saw it was also a family owned bakery with the Chinese vanilla strawberry cake. I called them right away and I was told a 6" vanilla strawberry cake was $14 and an 8" is $22. Wow, that's such a steal .. I thought maybe they use canned strawberries, but the lady confirmed it's fresh strawberries. Then I asked if they were able to make one so I can pick it up early next morning and she said not possible because they need to go buy the strawberries in the morning and the earliest for pick up is about 11 AM. Great! I don't mind getting a little later as long as those berries are nice and fresh. On pick up day I arrived after 11 AM and the plaza was packed from all the supermarket shoppers. I drove around and finally found a parking spot, walked up to the bakery and there was no one there. I told the man I wanted to pick up my cake so he went to take out the cake and showed it to me to make sure it looks good then asked what I wanted to write on it. Afterwards he put the cake in the box and handed it to me. I saw there were a few cake slices and also 2 vanilla strawberry cakes in the cake fridge. They also make custom cakes with pictures too. Time to eat the cake... it was so delicious! I love the strawberries on top of the cake, the whipped cream was so light, cake was moist and not dry, mucho strawberries in the middle of the cake, and everything was so fresh. The cake was perfect! I'm so glad I found this bakery. I read other reviews about the mango cake and tres leches cake and those look delicious too. The owners (lady on the phone and man that gave me the cake) were also very friendly and accommodating. I'm definitely coming back here for all my cakes from now on. read more
