Just had the loveliest breakfast at Sunny Side with my husband and my sibling who is in town from Oakland. We've lived in Escondido for 2.5 years now but don't get out much due to busy jobs/parenthood and have been wanting to try this place for awhile. We were warmly welcomed by the staff at Sunny Side- the staff and ambience give you that hometown, cozy, local feel. We split The Works (whole sandwich) and one half is enough for one person; it was delicious! My sibling got the egg and cheese and really liked it. I had the mango green tea with honey that paired nicely with the sando. My husband had a regular coffee with cream & sugar and my sibling had a black coffee. They both agreed it was good coffee and they are very much coffee snobs so high praise in their world! I tried the house hot sauce and it was a great balance of smokey and warm, a perfect addition to my sandwich. We were looking to just chill outside on a beautiful morning, enjoy each others company and have great food and that's exactly what we got. read more

While passing through Escondido en route to Temecula, we stopped at Sunnyside for breakfast. Yelpers led us here - thank you, you beautiful people! I could ramble on about the fantastic food we had, the delicious pour over coffee, the adorable mini cookies, or the cozy atmosphere... But I would rather tell you about how the incredibly friendly hostess accidentally caught herself on fire, put the fire out without panic or screaming, and somehow continued to take our order like nothing happened. I don't even know why I'm posting a review since the other 500+ reviews say it all. Customer service is spot on. Food is incredibly fresh and delicious. The ONLY reason I can't do 5 stars is because the place is so small and the seating can be a little uncomfortable. This is a personal thing, because I have a bad back. Sometimes wooden benches or barstools can be painful to sit in. Also, their taty menu means there was a line out the door. So the people in line were kind in my personal space during my meal. I loved this place!!!! I didn't know they had vegan options which was amazing. The cashier was amazing and super friendly. And the whole place was soooo cute. It was just so cozy. They have a huge menu; so many options! I had the vegan sandwich and it was really delicious and packed full of veggies unlike a lot of veggie sandwiches who only come with a tiny amount of veggies. This a very tiny place and lacks ventilation. It was extremely warm inside and most the tables only fit 2 . You had to go to the cashier to order. It took a while to receive our panini's and coffee. The food is expensive , nothing special and comes with a miniature serving of fruit. We won't be coming back. We don't understand the 5 star reviews, must be their friends posting. I found this on Yelp a few years ago as some friends and I were headed to San Diego. SUCH GOOD FOOD. Came back last week with my husband as we were buying a car at the Toyota dealership. The owners are super friendly and helpful in picking from the menu. They were hopping busy at about 12:30 but we sat outside in the shade and the food came out much quicker than we expected (they had apologized in advance for the wait). I can really notice the little details in this quaint cafe. The dynamic husband/wife duo Bob and Kate are extremely hospitable and really made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. Chai tea and bluberry lemon tea was perfect start to the morning. Be sure to check out the handmade strawberry oakmeal made to order as well. The grand finale is the "works" panini. Not really a sandwich guy, because the bread is a big part of the sandwich and if the bread is blah, so is the sandwich. Sunnyside uses amazing sourdough bread, toasted to crunchy perfection for their grilled panini. I had the Chicken bacon ranch for lunch. The chicken (topped with havarti, muenster, and parmesan - you can never have too much cheese, right?!) was moist and tender, which is not always the case at other places. I took the second half home to my wife and they even put tomato on mine but not on my wife's (at her request). From the friendly greeting on arrival, to the outstanding service (seemingly remembering everyone's name), to the cozy sidewalk tables out front or the extra tables in the back, Sunnyside truly does take it to the next level, both in taste and in service. I had the quiche with artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and feta cheese. It was decent but not great. Came with a little fruit cup. With yelp check in you get a bite size cookie the size of a dime. It was yummy. Outside tables and chairs very simple, could use some work. My friend enjoyed it more than me, but the people were awesome. Been here a few times and every visit have been pleasant experiences. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Vegan panini. The sourdough bread had the perfect texture, the veggies which included spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and avocado were delicious. I think my favorite item was the house-made orzo pasta that accompanied my panini! Can't really describe the flavor profile but it was damn good, nuff said! The chicken: cooked thoroughly (I like my chicken well done lol). And the ranch: BOMB. Honestly this was the best panini I've ever had in my life. Definitely worth it. On top of the A+ panini the service is so so good here. It's a small little restaurant located in downtown Escondido, and so the staff is very kind and attentive, you feel very welcomed there. After months of hearing from close friends how good this place was I had to finally give it try and man oh man is this place good!!! Not only do they have great food they also have great customer service! This place has became hands the down my go to place for iced coffee, you can't go wrong with their flavors but personally I prefer the caramel iced latte. Oh and this is definitely my go to place for their cinnamon rolls! I'm kinda glad they only make them on Saturday's cause I'd be in trouble if they were made daily, lol. The salads, paninis, and cold sandwiches have all been a hit so far and I can't wait to try just about every single item on the menu! I promise you, you will not regret giving this place a try!
