Kid tested, mother approved. Haha. On a serious note......We have lived right next door to Sunny Side for almost 2 years and my 8yr old daughter and I finally tried this place for breakfast just now. We were greeted like family by Bob and could not have felt more at home. It literally was like a family member just opened the door to his home for us. A+ in my book. I work in the hospitality industry and this small gem of a place hit all the notes. To start, their Orange Juice, according to my daughter was the best she had ever had, even better than a fresh squeezed OJ stand.....and let me tell you how critical she is with food and beverage. She has the palette of a grown adult and that may just be my fault. Secondly, we enjoyed THE WORKS breakfast sandwich ( baked egg, fresh bacon and 3 different kinds of cheese with Avocado on perfectly grilled sourdough.......do I need to say anymore?) Bob even brought out a special collection of hot sauces for me to enjoy. If you have the chance do ask for them....I enjoyed all but #1 and #4 were my favorites. Great breakfast place in the heart of Escondido. They make breakfast sandwiches that have eggs cooked correctly with avocado They also make some great Panini's that have sun-dried tomatoes. Another good item on the menu is the vegetarian quiche that has sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, and hearts of artichoke. The staff is super friendly and they have great customer service. read more

The staff is super friendly, you can tell they have a ton of regulars. They came in a lot while we were eating our yummy food. I had the Vegan panini, my husband had The Works. I also had a chai latte, my husband loved his pour over coffee. I have to say the sourdough bread was the best I've had. They also have little bite size cookies. It's places like this that I never would have found without the Yelp app. It's really tiny and easy to miss, but at over 200 reviews and a 5 star average it's almost impossible to pass it up if you're in the area and looking for breakfast or lunch. My quinoa salad was delicious, with big fresh tomato chunks and a really tasty dressing, but it was pretty obvious where much of the excellent feedback was coming from after only a minute or two inside the doors. Some of the most friendly staff you will find at a restaurant! Between the outstanding customer service and the tasty lunch for an incredibly fair price this place definitely lived up to its score. Next time I'm in the neighborhood I'm gonna have to bring someone else so I can try more things on the menu. read more

Our go to local breakfast and lunch place! We all love Bob and Kate so much, who are so accommodating to our gluten free diet. It's hard to find good menus with more than one or two items. I feel like the vast majority of their dishes can be adapted to gluten free (even their meatloaf sandwiches are safe!). We love dog friendly places! So thank you Sunny Side Kitchen for offering a dog friendly outside setting complete with full fresh water bowl! As for our brunch, the panini's were tasty and the ingredients were super fresh. You can taste the difference. This place was Hoppin' too! People in and out all seemed quite happy and many seemed to be repeat customers. There was a wide range of clientele, not a clique kind of place, that was nice. I've been coming here for a couple of months now and everything I've tried was delicious. The owners are very friendly people. Don't be discouraged of how small it is inside. Their food is packed with lots of flavor and freshness. They have some seating outside but I prefer to eat inside because it has a really homey atmosphere. The menu is very straightforward. They have their breakfast and lunch paninis, salads, coffee and teas, and cookies to name of few. My favorite sandwich is their pesto chicken lunch panini. Their paninis can be on the pricier side but you have to remember everything is made fresh to order and with fresh ingredients. They offer half and full size paninis and they charge $1 extra to add bacon. I really enjoy the side pasta salad that comes with their lunch paninis. It makes everything taste even more fresh. I just wish they gave a little more especially when you order the full sized panini. I've also tried some of their bite-sized cookies. It has a nice crisp edge with a soft and chewy center. The chocolate chip is my fave! Don't forget you can get one free cookie for checking in on Yelp. read more

The reviews are correct, this is a sweet little place where things are hand made and fresh. We had a Cobb salad that was great and a tuna melt panini which I was I had gotten a whole instead of a half it was so good. My son got a turkey bacon sandwich that was very good and the tomatoes were so red and sweet, I hate tomatoes and I ate them off of his sandwich. They made My Arnold palmer fresh and to order. The little cookies were very good. The monster cookie was the best. We got three for a $1 which was perfect. Great to find a gluten-free restaurant I can take my mom to. read more

This place is adorable! Great service, and fantastic food. I come all the way from Encinitas to eat here. The gluten free bread for the paninis is incredible, as well as the gluten free muffin. Usually GF bread is tolerable at best, but I was really surprised how great the bread was. Would hands down recommend to everyone. Employees are great as well! read more

Finally got to try this place today. Had half meatloaf panini - it was grilled to perfection and very tasty. The meatloaf itself was very good, but a bit loose inside the bread. The meatloaf Could have been a bit more dense and more thick - wonderful grilled bread. But the flavors were outstanding. I will have to try the tuna melt or grilled cheese with soup next.
