I wish I could give a better score because I love to promote local businesses and hope they thrive because I know running a restaurant is a back breaking labor of love. Unfortunately I was hoping for more given the high rating on yelp. I was underwhelmed by the food and yes the side of fruit was a small ketchup sized container containing the quantity of one strawberry sliced up. My panini was a nicely toasted buttered sourdough, bland dry shredded chicken with a squish of mildly spiced nondescript red sauce, a quarter of a pickle placed in the middle, scant cheese and a processed overcooked disc of egg for each half sandwich. I expected so much more in flavor or even food presentation given how pricey the food was. Price? 2 overcooked egg discs and 2 slices of bacon for almost $9. It was unfortunately one of those places you bring people to because it's "#3 of the 100 best places it he US to eat on yelp" and leave apologizing to everyone for suggesting it. read more

Today Saturday 5-1-21 me my wife and my daughter came to Sunnyside Kitchen in Esco and the food and service was amazing!! I ordered a sandwich that got an award on Yelp called "The Works." It was the best!! My daughter ordered the "Veggie sandwich" she liked it so much, she went back and bought another one!! My wife had the "Avocado toast" and some Quiche. She liked it alot. WE found this little restaurant simply by searching "coffee shops near me" What a pleasant surprise!!. Terrific food, honest pricing and great customer service. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great breakfast/lunch and ol' fashioned value. Nothing fancy - just plain good eating. Came here for brunch today. There was a bit of a wait to get my food, but they were busy so that's understandable. They have patio seating out front, which was all shaded. I ordered cold brew and a green Chile and pepper jack cheese quiche. Cold brew was solid. The quiche slice arrived hot. It was delicious. No crust (so it's gluten free?!) but it had a lovely crispy bottom so I didn't miss it. I was worried that it would be too spicy but it was really lightly spicy and cheesy. If you like hatch chile mac and cheese, you'll love this quiche. I also got a GF pumpkin muffin but I haven't tried it yet. Fabulous chicken pesto sandwich on gluten free bread...I had the half serving and wished I'd gotten the full serving! Hubby had meatloaf sandwich full serving which he loved. We came at lunchtime and many nearby workers came to get takeout orders. Very kind and friendly staffers, a joyous and mellow place...definitely would come again. I ordered The California Club panini which is The Works plus chicken and tomato. They forgot the chicken and tomato so I ended up with The Works. I told the waitress that there must've been a mistake and she said they would take what I had started eating and make the correct panini. It was kind of busy so instead of waiting for another panini to be made I asked her to just credit the difference in price. The owner came out and went well beyond my request to make things right. Can't tell you how much that means from a customer service perspective. They know how to treat their customers! Great food too! I didn't love what I ordered but I'm willing to give Sunny Side Kitchen another go. I just didn't like the bread that they use for paninis...if they had a plain sourdough option or another type of panini bread I would have liked it much more. The rosemary on the sourdough is very overpowering. I liked everything IN the panini though! It comes with a small salad, some fruit and a tiny scoop of orzo pasta salad. It was all good but I really wish there was more. My daughter was still hungry as well, so I let her get a bag of chips and we got an oatmeal to go (which was still not steeped enough after 25 min. We had to microwave it when we got home.) If I was truly hungry Sunnyside Kitchen would not be my first choice. Initial service at the counter where you order was pretty friendly, can't complain. The young lady was very nice. However you have to bus your own table, and there is no table service whatsoever. I guess they bring your food out to you, but that's it. So why would they ask for a tip on the receipt while you're paying initially? I hate that about places these days. read more

This is one of my very favorite breakfast places in San Diego! The icing on the cake is it's only a few blocks away from our house. For what they lack in square footage, they make up for in bomb food and amazing customer service. You are always made to feel right at home and welcome. They use fresh and simple ingredients for their paninis. My favorite is the egg, avocado, and cheese on gluten free bread (Canyon Bakehouse is the brand which is also what I regularly buy at home). Comes with a nice side fruit salad. I crave this place regularly! Keep up the awesome work. read more

I've been here multiple times for breakfast sandwiches my favorite is ( The Works ) it's like a marriage of avocado toast and a bacon and egg sandwich . Service is always friendly and fast . I have to say I am very confused. To me it's def not a 5 star type of place. I'm sorry but for 5 stars you have to meet some basic criteria. Like for a breakfast place to make eggs to order. I would expect a small hole in wall, probably family run, breakfast joint to have a very welcoming and anti big corporation feel. Very confused because it feels like a small family place until you get thinks like salt and pepper packets and sugar packets and no refills on the coffee and eggs that are only made one way. Eggs are sacred. They are like the only food that every person likes a completely different way and is generally respected across the food industry but most certainly in a breakfast place. Tell me why all their eggs are made the same exact way no exceptions.... I mean the place is called sunny side but they don't make sunny side eggs to order....? And I like the idea of bottomless drip coffee if that is what I feel like and not being coerced into buying a $6 pour over.... This is Escondido... I don't see Starbucks Reserve store type clientele here often who want to pay $6 for a 12 ounce coffee no refills... def a different experience here but my egg, cheese, avacado panini was tasty and the coffee was good too. read more

Not worth the hype. When we first entered the elderly gentleman was welcoming and friendly. We ordered 2 sandwiches and it took over 30 minutes. We noticed that a lot of customers who came after us got their food first. We asked the workers if they knew the ETA for our food and the 2 females behind the counter snapped at us, ummm what??? Delightful service. Best panini I've ever had. Outside of bread had an crunchy crust of brown cheese and butter (I think), but the bread still held it's original soft interior). Grilled Tuscan Chicken with bacon added was my favorite of the two sandwiches that I tasted. But I don't want that to take away from how good the California Breakfast Sandwich tasted. One of the best mocha lattes I've had in a very long time. 10/10 on staff friendliness. The two types of metal chairs were very uncomfortable to sit on, the cushions kept sliding around, and the three wooden tables were all filled.ordering was slow and we couldn't get the QR code to pull up the menu. Amazingly fresh food, excellent customer service. All of the staff members are so thoughtful and kind. The shop is cozy with a great ambiance. There is an easy to access parking lot in the back.
