This is a lovely mom-n-pop breakfast/lunch place. We love the paninis, especially the Vegetarian Mediterranean which is packed with flavor. Every time we come here we are happily greeted by the friendly staff. It is noticeable that the owners put a lot of love in the food and decor. We come back often because the food is delicious and the service is great. This place is fantastic! A family-owned hole-in-the-wall that fit the bill perfectly. The food is awesome, made to order, and delivered with awesome service and a smile. I had a works panini that was phenomenal. They have an amazing way of serving bacon, avocado, bacon and cheese that is just better than anyone else. One thing that stood out to me was the ambience. I felt like I was eating breakfast in my own kitchen. Seriously, the atmosphere was such that I felt right at home. Loved the quaint, white wainscoating and yellow walls. Well Last week when I went to farmer's market here in Escondido I came across this Lovely and welcoming Place:) I have to say that what I sampled was highly amazing!! I couldn't wait to meet my mom and show her this awesome stand.She like myself tired the cookies and was hooked as well. I know that anytime that I go to farmer's market that I will be definitely restocking on some cookies as well as trying a whole panini this time around.I will be trying and buying the different varieties of cookies that they sell!! I have been to Sunny Side Kitchen a few times now. Whenever we have people in town to visit and want breakfast, we took them there. This mom-and-pop shop is locally owned, and I love how they used the pipes as the shelf. This place gives you a warm and welcoming vibe. I have tried The Works, Avocado, Egg and Cheese, Grilled Cheese and Tuscan Panini. They were all good just depends on what kind of mood that you were in. =) For breakfast paninis, you get half a panini and a cup of fruit, which was the right amount of food. Don't forget to order their gourmet coffee! If you are a coffee lover that you will appreciate the cup they brew. They are passionate about using great ingredients in the food, and you can taste it. They even inspire me to purchase a Panini machine that I can make my own paninis. The place is always clean, and they provide a friendly service. High quality food. Not really sure why this place is a 5 star restaurant. The service was okay, the prices were expensive. The food was average not great. I ordered a half California Club and the works panini. Both were a little on the greasy side and tasted like something I could have made at home. The coffee was not good, it was very weak and they served me cream on the side in a 64 oz carafe then took it away from me after a few minutes . When they could have served me cream in a small cream holder to keep at the table versus taking it away. I was never offered more coffee & when I asked for a to go cup you would think like most restaurants they would offer to top off your coffee before you go, but that did not happen. Shortly after leaving the restaurant I wasn't feeling too well. There are several other restaurants one can go to where you will obtain better customer service, food and coffee. read more

I've been here twice and my first experience I'd say was better than my second but I'll just start off by saying this is NOT the place you want to go for lunch break. The quality of the food is definitely there but I figure the combination of a small prep kitchen, volume of customers, & leisure pace of the staff makes the food come out extremely delayed. This is the main reason I'm giving this place an average rating because my first time here I waited about 15min but it was okay because every available table inside and out was occupied & the second time I came, it literally took 20min to get my food and less than a handful of customers. My additional gripe is the portions are smaller than average. Maybe that's their style for people wanting to stay healthy by being given less food aka less calories but the tiny ramekin sides of risotto or fruit is akin to a Costco sample leaving you to desire a lot more but for me a mouthful is too much of a teaser. Moreover, my expectation is to be satiated no matter where I'm eating & I've had physically small portions that were nutrient dense & filling at other places. Now the food is great nonetheless, no complaints there but if I'm still hungry after ordering an ice tea, a full works sandwich with side, a few bite sized cookies, my mind is going to start focusing on the lack of value that I feel that I'm paying for here and I'll remember to go elsewhere whenever I'm hungry because there are plenty of places that taste great, farm to table, larger portions, & cost about the same. But again, my main gripe is the time it takes them to prepare sandwiches of all foods...I recall sitting next to a lady that was also reaching her breaking point in getting her food having to walk up and ask not once but twice for her food as if they skipped her ticket & I felt sorry that she obviously ran out of time during her lunch break to eat. To my own astonishment, when my food was finally served 20min later, the gentlemen didn't take initiative to acknowledge or address the issue of them lagging so hard so that either meant a) they don't think there's any issue with their slow pace or b) they take the hardline approach of saying, "Not happy, want fast food? Look elsewhere, we don't need your business." I didn't bother fussing about it to find out if the latter were true but clearly it bothered me enough to let my thoughts be known on here. This adorable little spot is delicious!!!! I ordered their Tuscan Homestyle panini and salad. This is not just a cafe, although it does have homemade brownies, cookies and other pastries we didn't try those. But their blueberry green tea and mango black tea go great with their sandwiches. It's a tiny owned restaurant and you just about miss the place when you map it there. When you walk in, you face the register and to the left is a list of things to order. I had some time to spare in Escondido because I was coming from up north. I managed to find this place on Yelp and thought I would give it try. I came in and looked at their menu. Bob asked if it was my first time and offered some assistance on the menu. He was very helpful and kind. I placed my order and took a seat by the window. The inside is decorated nicely.... Like a cute little home with a hint of a distressed style. I took my seat and shortly after my coffee was handed to me with a side of cream. The coffee beans come from a local roaster and they grind the beans there made fresh for every customer. No need for creamer/sugar.... The coffee itself was delicious. I ordered the chicken pesto panini. The ingredients were yummy. The bread was grilled nicely but the only downfall was that the crust was a bit tough/hard and it was difficult to chew. My meal also came with a side (which I had never tried) but it looked like a form of rice with peppers. The texture was pleasing and the taste was equally matched. This is a small place.... Perhaps about 4 tables inside but they do offer outside seating. If I'm in the area again, I would come back again. Plus, the awesome service is always welcoming. About six months ago I finally made it over to check Sunny Side Kitchen out (it's been on my list forever). Since my first visit, I've been back numerous times! The atmosphere is very casual and inviting. Inside they offer limited table seating, window seats and a few outdoor tables. I haven't made it there for lunch before noon, so the inside tables have been full, but we have always been able to get an outside table (I require a table to accommodate my little one's high chair). The lunch menu consists of soup, sandwiches and salad. What sets this restaurant apart is the care and quality of the ingredients/recipes they use. Everything I have had has been super fresh and tasty. All the ingredients are fresh and they add special touches like a little cheese outside the bread before toasting, or using lots of meat in the clam chowder...that really makes this quaint spot a stand out. My little one LOVES the grilled cheese and will eat the whole (quite sizable) sandwich. The coffee is also very good and the little cookies are amazing! I always get a few for a measly $1.50 as a treat. I've interacted with the staff and owners many times and they are extremely friendly and take a true interest in their customers. One of the staff even brews the kombucha they offer! It's hard to come across a special place like Sunny Side Kitchen, I highly recommend heading over for breakfast or lunch if you are in the area. read more

This review is long overdue! My dad and I absolutely love you guys! Your coffee is so taste and your food is delicious! I love your vegan sandwich with a side of orzo and a deli pickle! I wasn't even vegan when I tried it (just vegetarian), and now that I am vegan, I'm so glad I did! It's always good to know of another place I can not only grab a bite, but a delicious bite at that!
