About six months ago I finally made it over to check Sunny Side Kitchen out (it's been on my list forever). Since my first visit, I've been back numerous times! The atmosphere is very casual and inviting. Inside they offer limited table seating, window seats and a few outdoor tables. I haven't made it there for lunch before noon, so the inside tables have been full, but we have always been able to get an outside table (I require a table to accommodate my little one's high chair). The lunch menu consists of soup, sandwiches and salad. What sets this restaurant apart is the care and quality of the ingredients/recipes they use. Everything I have had has been super fresh and tasty. All the ingredients are fresh and they add special touches like a little cheese outside the bread before toasting, or using lots of meat in the clam chowder...that really makes this quaint spot a stand out. My little one LOVES the grilled cheese and will eat the whole (quite sizable) sandwich. The coffee is also very good and the little cookies are amazing! I always get a few for a measly $1.50 as a treat. I've interacted with the staff and owners many times and they are extremely friendly and take a true interest in their customers. One of the staff even brews the kombucha they offer! It's hard to come across a special place like Sunny Side Kitchen, I highly recommend heading over for breakfast or lunch if you are in the area. read more

This is probably my favorite breakfast spot in Esco. The quality of the food and drinks are remarkable. However, the service and space is lacking. I suppose the hole in the wall vibe adds to the aura of the restaurant. If they were able to fit in a traditional size space, you wouldn't have to hear the employees argue or banter about their tasks. On the real, the price you pay for the high quality food matters more than how small or aloof the workers are of their behavior. I highly recommend the Works or Club with iced coffee. Treat yourself to their freshly made cookies - a dozen is only $5! Coming here completes my weekend. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Escondido and we are SO glad we found Sunny Side Kitchen. We've been in a few times and have even had take out. Each experience had been better than the last! This morning we splurged for the cinnamon roll! (YUM!) The employees and owners couldn't be nicer!! They are so personable and have made us feel so welcome! I hardly ever get time off but when I do I always try to swing down here for either breakfast or lunch. Every time you come in you are greeted very warmly and their up beat manor just put you in an overall better mood if you already aren't in a good mood just by walking in! Sunny Side Kitchen has been a staple for me and my co-workers for several years now, and we eat here at LEAST once a week. The food is deeeelicious, the staff is friendly and responsive, and the variety for GF or vegetarians is excellent. I absolutely love the crustless quiche, avocado toast, tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich, Sunny Side salad, 808 sandwich, club panini, cinnamon rolls, and their cookies (a bag of a few of each of their minis is PERFECT for sharing around the table after lunch). Yes, it's small with limited seating (and Covid hasn't made that any easier) so best to get your meal to-go (makes for a great picnic!) or even have it delivered. The only downside when coming here is deciding what to get! read more

4 Stars for the food and service. My bacon, avocado and chicken panini was awesome. If I lived or worked locally I'd grab one often, but to go. We wouldn't stop again after an hour and a half drive mainly because of the condition of the eating space. A deep clean would help as baseboards and walls were dirty. Dog friendly is great, but in such cramp quarters, allowing a dog (other than service animal) inside is too much and unfair to patrons who aren't dog lovers. We walked in to a retching dog under one of their small tables. In regards to the tables, I love hype funky places but having to clean up someone else's dishes and the table before sitting down kind of stinks. No way to ask someone for help as everyone was very busy. If you do stop to eat here, order everything at once. Food took sometime (also ok because it was fresh), but I wanted to sample a cookie (thought I read you got one included with a whole sandwich, but I didn't get one) so I got back in line but gave up after 15 min when there was only one person taking orders. Lastly just wanted to mention the bathroom situation. For those traveling plan to walk through the small kitchen to a small-not-so-clean restroom. Probably best to take out or eat at during off-busy times. read more
