Every Saturday we take our two boxers for a walk along Grand Avenue in Escondido. It makes for a good start to our day. Late in 2016, we discovered Sunny Side; I'm very happy that we did! Now we visit Sunny Side every Saturday morning as a relaxing and fulfilling end to our walk. They have fabulous Panini breakfast sandwiches; we each have a 'regular' order now. We talk, our boxers get a chance to drink some water (provided by Sunny Side), and we people/car watch while we eat. This is really one of the gems of Escondido. Not only is the food great (the breakfast panini, meatloaf panini, quiche, brownies...all absolutely stellar), but the owners are just the sweetest. My only complaint (in non-Covid times) is that there isn't more seating. In current times, they follow Covid protocol strictly and do a great take-out service. read more

This is a quaint little cafe with their specialty being paninis. I had their meatloaf panini a few months ago which was really yummy and this time we shared the breakfast club and the green chili crustless quiche...both were solid. My husband read an article in the newspaper about this place being in the top 100 breakfast joints in the nation according to Yelp reviews (number 51 to be specific). We were both excited to try out a new place near our house that had gotten such great reviews. My first impression was slightly chaotic. Seemed like they had never owned a food business before, and that can be ok... I've had some awesome food from first time mom and pop shops before. We were greeted nicely by a young man... as we approached the cash register to order is where it all went down hill for me. The man behind the counter wasn't great to deal with... first, he fiddled around with a plate of muffins for about a minute before he even looked at us; it seemed very odd and a bit rude. I saw that they offered "pour over coffee" and I asked for a slow pour coffee....after a short and what seemed argumentative conversation on what that meant I quickly cancelled my coffee order and went on to order our food. We ordered the Avocado, Egg, and Cheese breakfast panini and the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese breakfast panini. My husband did end up ordering the "pour over coffee"..... took forever to get and it wasn't very good. I think they must only have 1 panini press because it took about 15/20 minutes and what we got was a half of a sandwich and an incredibly tiny sample cup of fruit. Yes, the bread is good but the eggs were severely over-cooked and not much avocado for the price.... it was crazy.... since we ordered the breakfast panini we were expecting a whole sandwich, but we unfortunately got a half a sandwich each- they should specify that on the menu board. I'm not saying we were looking for a huge meal but that really was ridiculous. I wish I would have taken a picture and included it. I won't go here again! read more

Then you smell the grills. Kate greater us at the counter and she was more than sweet. Bob was manning the simple open viwed kitchen. The food was hand delivered to any of the small deli tables, the seats a the window bar, and to the outdoor patio. I had the meat loaf panini with the quinoa salad with a Arnold Palmer. It was so good I forgot to take a picture of it. My wife had the grilled cheese with clam chowder. She shared a little bu guarded it closely till she finished.
