Good burger. Nice char, juicy, plenty of fresh toppings. Breakfast is served until closing (2pm). Menus are on the table along with napkins, salt and pepper, sweeteners and creamer. Ketchup and their in-house made sauce were brought to the table after ordering. Lots of Elvis and Coke decor. Booth or counter seating. Two single restrooms at the back are clean. Parking in their private lot behind the building (near the gas station), on the side streets for free, or pay for street parking in front. Definitly a neighborhood favorite spot. Friendly staff. Sunny is the wrong description for this diner! They were busy... I get it. I didn't mind the wait to order or to get my food, that's what busy does. But... rude, cranky, poor service is avoidable. The food was good (French Toast, Kielbasa, bacon and eggs). Asked for water.. never came, several walk by's and no coffee refill until I asked. In the end I'm the one feeling quilt y about a small tip. Personality didn't show up until time to pay and tip... what a surprise. What a hidden gem! My son had a hockey game in a nearby rink on a Saturday morning so we came here with some other families for brunch after. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with friendly staff and didn't wait more than a minute for coffee. The hot cocoa was to die for and the pancakes, veggie omelette, corned beef hash and bacon were all delicious (and came out super quick). The restaurant was also very clean. We came to the diner because we have three young kids and the hotel price for breakfast was insane. The food was good and certainly cheaper than what it would have been at the hotel, but the thing that brought us back the next day was the kindness of the staff. I believe it was the owner who came out to talk to the kids. He treated them like his own with tremendous kindness and gentleness. He sat with them, talked with them, and even gave them candy and a water bottle. I witnessed him also go around to other regulars and talk to them as if they were old friends. Menu prices are not accurate. The server advised that the prices had changed but minimized it by saying they hadn't gone up much. The truth is that the power breakfast went up nearly 60% in price! That is something I would have like to have been told prior to ordering. It is not an insignificant cost increase. $20 for breakfast is insane! Also, the bathroom is not heated and was very cold on this December morning. Besides that, the ceiling has water damage spots and my plastic water glass was missing chunks out of the rim. This was fine but pretty basic. It'll do if you want breakfast on the road, but nothing any better or different than you could easily make for yourself at home for a much cheaper cost. There is street parking which was easy for me to find but I don't know if that's always true. I got the 2, 2, 2 special which is 2 eggs, 2 meats (sausage or bacon) and 2 french toast or pancakes with coffee. It was a decent deal and was pretty filling for about $7. It was almost impossible to get any coffee though, partially the one waitress seemed busy and partially there seemed to be a lot of regulars and they got taken care of first. The 50s decor was fine, but a little kitschy. Their photo on their site shows nice white tables but ours were completely covered in ads, which is typical of a diner but still a bit tacky. It's apparently a diner from 1928 but looks like the 1950s. Did the constantly update decor for 20 years then thought "nah this decade is where it stops." It really advertises it's old but that doesn't add to the ambiance which looks basic/fake old anyway. So the food was fine, for a diner it was fine, they are usually pretty safe/standard/basic/serviceable and this fit into that, but no more. read more

I called and asked if they have tables or do they only have booths and they told me they have tables and then the lady hung up on me. I had surgery and need a table. Once we walked in, there were no tables, just booths. The waitress did say I could move the booth back. And then we ordered. My mother got one egg with sausage links. I got a bacon and cheese omelette with home fries and an English muffin. My mother's dish looked like a half an egg and only one thick sausage. I could not eat my meal at all. The bacon was so fatty and hardly any cheese. The home fries were gross. The only good thing was the English muffin. I will never be back there again. Haven't been there in years due to relocation but when I was a local, this joint was one of my top faves, the food and service was good and the staff was always very friendly, it's like a mom and pops eatery that had a nice feel to the place whenever I went, felt like home to be specific. I remember one time I had gone to eat there with my husband and he left his wallet behind, the cook was nice enough to keep it safe for us, nothing was missing. The people who worked here were friendly, though service was slow. The coffee was good. There's not really any parking besides for street parking so it is a little hard to find a spot. Yelp led us to this neighborhood institution when we were looking for a quick breakfast on a trip to Maine. Very family friendly - probably because it is family owned and run. Old fashioned diner and car pictures decorate the walls and local business ads decorate the table tops. Easy off street parking. Service was prompt and attentive. I had a scrambled egg, Kielbasa, home fries and an English muffin. DH had the same except he had corned beef hash instead of sausage. This place has tanked tremendously since I last went a few years ago when it was under a different owner. I'm never going back again. I took my girlfriend to eat there over the weekend and kept boasting about the deliciousness of their breakfast on the way there. However, the reality that unfolded at that crowded, Hispanic-over-run, diner culminated in this review and a lost customer, for life. In fact, I will never visit a diner whose name is remotely close to anything "Sunny". I'm too scared. I'm Hispanic myself and have lost faith in my own people's ability to provide high quality customer service . If you're white, don't go here unless you're looking for a ghetto experience. I ordered two pancakes that tasted mediocre at best. I remember when their pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Not this time. I had to apply pressure on my fork to cut the damn pancake, almost as if I were trying to cut into steak. It almost felt like cutting construction paper with really dull scissors. Get the point? Good. But the real crux of this pancake horror story came when I went to pour the syrup. Warning, it's not syrup! It's some kind of sweetened slime. You can pour out an inch of it and quickly tip the cup back and find that the slime will ooze back, without it ever touching the pancake. It's some kind of sorcery syrup whose taste is deplorable, abominable, ignominious, and outright disgusting . I left the Sunny Side Diner with a bad taste in my mouth. I also feel that I was overcharged but didn't dispute it because I just wanted to get the hell out of there. I've come too far in life to subject myself to such mediocrity. I left a piece of my dignity back there. What they're doing there is an affront to breakfast and diners everywhere. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this pathetic diner. But when I came to SunnySide Diner, I'm sorry to say it did not become my favorite diner. HOWEVER, whenever I am in the area, I am always more than happy to come here and grub; you can say it is my locative go-to place! The inside is very retro (it makes you feel like you're in the 50's, especially with the juke box chillin in the back). Coffee doesn't taste burnt, the butter is more real than IHOP, the pancakes are HUGE and delicious when you add chocolate chips into them (at an extra $2.00 though - CAUTION), and they give you three whole slices of toast to an order. Found this greasy spoon of the God's that had a line out the door of hungry customers and Uber and Door Dash drivers picking up take out orders. Sat ring side, aka, kitchen stool overlooking the grill and was entertained by the entire staff banging out breakfasts orders front and back. It was chaos, never seen so many ppl working in such a small place, but there was rhythm, a beat, and that great smell of eggs, bacon and toast. The grill was swimming with a huge display of well seasoned home fried potatoes that were the perfect soft and crunchy at the same time. Bacon, sausage, and corn beef hash was cooked to order, eggs, omelette, pancakes, French toast were expertly prepared. You also want a well done and buttered English muffin, got that too. I have already eaten there twice in 2 days, and want to go back and try the lunch menu!!
