I spent months researching solar deals. I actually signed a contract with RGS to then have them bait and switch as the price they agreed was too low, even after signing the contract (Note: RGS is a public company seriously strapped for revenue). Frustrated, I went back to other companies on the market then found out that Sunpower sold direct. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call and email from JASON.BALOGH@sunpower.com. Jason was great to work with. After months of researching, it really came down to real-estate and $ per watt. I also wanted to take advantage of the project to do an electrical upgrade to my house. This complicated the deal. But to my surprise, within a few days, I had signed with Sunpower. This was primarily due to the pricing as well as the experience I had with Jason as my sales rep. The process was smooth, the deal was great and in the end the install says it all. Especially when people stop to take pictures of it. Warren did an excellent job. Our SunPower computer system in our brand new home was broken and original install was shoddy. The system was never tested when originally installed and wired wrong. However, Warren re-wired the system, ordered the new part, then installed the new computers system, upgraded the firmware, throughly tested the system and explained how the SunPower apps works. Worst service ever. Due to internal restructuring of the company, the customers need to suffer a lot. A lot means a lot. No one is there to respond to your queries. You are left in a big desert all by yourself. It's been 2 months and still my status is unknown. After the restructuring, Sunpower has brought has a lot of subcontractors in the picture. If you check the ratings of these subcontractors, they are below standards. And on the top of it, I get new mails in 1 week or 2 with a new subcontractor everytime. Tired of this company. Not going to work with this company and hence recommending no one to work with company unless you would like to give your work to less professional subcontractors. Mind it, Sunpower will try to sell that these subcontractors are trained by them but it's not the case with everyone. So, beware and look for other good options for Solar in the market. read more

We are so disappointed in SunPower. We signed a contract for solar panels in plenty of time to qualify for NEM2 and were given assurances that our contract would receive this benefit because it was submitted early enough. We felt a great deal of pressure to sign on time in order to qualify and assumed SunPower would do their part. We received NO update indicating that this would not happen until yesterday when SunPower called and told us our home wasn't approved. We contacted PGE only to learn that SunPower never even bothered to submit our paperwork. In other words, they lied to us. We chose SunPower naively believing their word and signed contract had meaning. We contacted our SunPower rep to tell him we know they didn't submit the paperwork on time and his response was, "sorry". DO NOT trust this company if you value professionalism and integrity. They have neither. UPDATE after posting. Received two responses via this YELP review and followed through with providing contact information as requested. Still no response from SunPower. Quick Summary: 26 days to receive updated technical drawings for me to submit to my HOA for approval. 138 days (and counting) since first installation visit and still incomplete install. 8 (and counting) missed, rescheduled, or actual appointments set. 4 times teams arrived unannounced, or unprepared ----------------------------------------------------------------- Detailed Review: I started my Sunpower journey Jul 8, 2022. My intent was to get it done before the passage of NEM 3.0, and before the end of the year for tax reasons. I chose Sunpower, even though they were the most expensive, after talking to multiple different installers specifically because they offered seemingly the best warranty and had plenty of experience in the solar business. To date my system is still not fully installed and fully operational yet. I have never had any experience with any other solar company before but I feel like my project has gone completely off the rails and is being handled unprofessionally. Between me taking off multiple days of work to find out the day of, or having to call in to find out why teams haven't arrived at set appointment times, or teams arriving unprepared and unable to complete the work is unacceptable and unreasonable in my eyes. I don't even blame my Project Coordinator or their office at this point as these are clearly systemic and systems level problems. Nearly every time a new team comes and tries to complete my system, I have to start at square one as it seems they have no idea why they're there or what has been done already. Many teams are generally willing to try and complete the project but there's a disturbing patten for some of them to leave messes and things "for the next team." It's a complete lack of problem ownership which may just be a symptom of being overworked. Sunpower is clearly streamlined to get out and complete as many projects as humanly possible (as evidenced by the multiple installations in my neighborhood that were completed quickly). However, if something goes wrong during the installation process, you will fall into the cracks as the system is so automated that they can't handle anything that goes off script. I wish I had a better experience but I can't in good conscience recommend Sunpower despite the other good reviews and hardware they have. read more

Would you believe my repairs remain uncompleted? Now replacement parts are unavailable. They want to re-write the lease agreement. You don't have to believe me. Go on the Internet and you will find all kinds of posts. They appear to have financial issues. They may have inventory issues. Could explain why my repairs remain unfinished after over 2 years!!!!!!! I assumed this lease, when I purchased the house. I wish I had never heard the name Sunpower. How they are allowed to be still selling their product(s) is beyond me. I had to choose a star to post. Seems like their scheduling system is flawed so request the first appointment in the morning or you will be waiting. My overall experience with sunpower was absolutely horrible. It was filled with wrong information and simply being put on the backburner. With NEM changes we wanted to expand on our existing solar system. Our neighbor referred us to the salesperson he was using; Hunter White. I reached out to Hunter and he said he would get back to me but after almost a week I had to reach out to him again. Finally we get things rolling, I send in my paperwork, I get my financing, I get my install date and I get my "everything for NEM2.0 looks good" from sunpower. Wrong! 2 days before my install I get a cancellation email on a Friday evening roughly 15 min before closing. Now I have to wait til Monday to get an answer. I text my salesperson Hunter who says he is trying to figure out what's going on and would get back to me, he eventually gets back to me in email form 2 days later saying we didn't get things done in time for NEM 2.0. Within those 2 days I had to call customer service 2x just to attempt to get any information. Overall it was a big headache. No one seems to be able to answer your questions and your refered back to your salesperson. If you have a problem with your salesperson, good luck. As a manager; Ben Leto gets a thumbs down from me, Hunter gets a thumbs down for me, Cort Scott gets a thumbs up because she tried to help. If you can find a local solar company I say go with them and don't even deal with sunpower. Will save you a few grey hairs and headaches. read more

SunPower makes a decent solar panel - end. They are otherwise a train-wreck. Ten years ago, we had Sullivan Solar install our 7Kw system using SunPower panels in San Diego. Sullivan did a perfect job. The system was perfectly engineered to meet our needs. We rarely exceed $10 - $20 that we owe SDG&E (another bunch of greedy folks) at our true-up in September. Since then, Sullivan Solar has gone out of business. They system has been working well, but I thought about adding a battery backup. I prepaid a 20-year lease with SunPower, so they still own it. They seemed like the logical place to start because it is still their system and they sell batteries. Boy, was I wrong! They told me that they would not allow any modifications to their system on my roof unless I "paid off the lease." They would not even sell me a battery to their own system that they could install. When I inquired about how much the buyout would be, they quoted me almost $5,000 in addition to the $16K I originally prepaid to them! I was expecting them to haggle on a cancellation fee and how much of a refund they would owe me, not them trying to stick it to a paying customer. We decided against a battery at this time for a host of reasons, not the least of which was the outrageous demands by SunPower. Plus, they were not even nice about it - rather rude to be precise. Needless to say, they are a profound disappointment to me. Judging by the number of one-star reviews they are getting, I am not alone. If we ever are in the market for anything solar again, we will not contact SunPower. Back to my first statement, they are a train-wreck and not worthy of your business. read more

They asked me to pay a $1000 deposit to be refunded after completion of the job and when full payment had been made. I paid everything that was due but more than 6 months later, still no refund. I emailed the company and they said it will be repaid, but many weeks later, I am still waiting. I don't think they going to pay me back unless I take this to court. read more

If it works, it works, but to get there is a different story. The inverter went down and I suddenly had a huge electric bill, I could not imagine (I live in Arizona !!) Took almost two month to have the inverter replaced, then the monitoring system did not function. Several contacts by "Chat" and promises to fix the problem did not help, until I got Hannah on the chat line. After a cool start, she realized what the problem could be. She tried to fix it remotely, it did not work and she opened a "work order" I was skeptical anything would change.With Hannah's effort and some people behind the scene, the problem has been solved. SunPower should have more people in customer service like Hannah. Thank you madam for all your help. read more

Well, another example SunPower "support". "Alex B." from SunPower asked me to send a private e-mail to them, but there is no link or address listed to do this. So typical. Same thing when you try to call their corporate offices - you automatically get sent to their "non-support" group in the Philipines, who do not connect you with the corporate offices in the US nor will they give you the number. Monitoring system (on iOS) on my SunPower batteries/solar panels remain completely inaccurate (see pics) and still no calls from ANYONE at SunPower. read more

Several concerns with this business! First there was a misrepresentation by the local company Sunmade, who we thought we were doing business with. I had had and earlir estimate by Sun Power that was higher than Sun made. Little did I now I ended up with 4 panels less! Also Sun Made, failed to disclose to us that They were not actually the company I was to do business with. When I received a contract with Sun Power on it I questioned but was told Sun Power probided the panels. Now I am getting bills from Sun Power eventhough when I signed up it was to be AutoPay! They made a one didget error and we cannot get it corrected. I get Inda, the Phillipines and who knows who else! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH EITHER OF THESE BUSINESS~~!!! read more

I sent a message with my contact info and case information as "Thomas G." asked. Shortly after I got an email from an escalation specialist who said he needed a few days to review my case. He said he would get back to me on or before April 24th. April 24th has passed and no update from John Cerda my escalation specialist. This is what I expected from this company. Your solar is a long term investment. Notice that most of the 5 star ratings here are right when service is starting and the customer is excited to use solar to power their home. Then all the 1 stars are from people that have had the service a while and needed the company to support them My Solar will be on my back porch for 4 months doing nothing and I paid $9,227 (plus the monthly lease payments and higher electric bills). It took my roofer only 4 days to do their work in Mid-February - and I am still 6 weeks out from the re-install date. Solar technology and power is amazing. It's a shame a company like this ruins it. Just support your customers, you will make more money in the long run. I do not know if there are any good solar companies out there, but I can guarantee you this one is not. read more

The entire process could have been better. I had a new flat TPO roof, and the plans they sent me to approve included securing the panels through the new TPO despite clarifying the need for ballasts. I had to send weekly emails for months to make sure things were actually progressing forward. Like several other reviews, Sunpower hires another company to do the install. The install went fine. The app works fine. The system makes energy. One major issue was getting the state tax credit. In New Mexico, we have to apply to get the credit. The application needs to be signed by Sunpower. Despite adequate time, I was told by my sales rep that he was too busy to sign the form, and so I missed out on the state tax credit. I complained to Sunpower corporate, and their reply was essentially "too bad." Once they get your money, they don't seem to care about what happens next. read more

SunPower did an exceptional job (5 star) from the start for pricing, answering questions, designing the project, getting the permits, installation of the equipment and approval to operate from SCE. However, I have been attempting to get a Conditional Waiver and Release on Final Payment as required by California Civil Code 3262. Numerous phone calls and emails have been sent to SunPower. I am sure they would want the final payment for the work completed and I have the funds to send immediately upon receipt of the required document. I even sent the the document filled out with all of the information so they only need to sign date and return to me. So far communications would be rated no better than 1 star. So my sunpower system been running for over a month now. It took about 2 months From installation to getting PTO from PG&E. I got a 4 kWh system. That's 12 of the top of the line X22 series panels. Cost me $18K before tax rebate. What I'm happy about? Installation was quick and clean. Panels look great on my roof. What I'm not happy about? The sunpower app to monitor your system works 50% of the time. During installation they rewire my electric dryer breaker and cause my dryer to run cold. Only getting 120v not 240v. I took my dryer apart to troubleshoot thinking my dryer was broken. So House was left without a dryer for a week. So make sure to check if your dryer run hot after you get solar install. This is a pretty common problem. Not sure why installers don't check. read more

It was all good in the beginning. The sales side was very communicative and knowledgeable on the product and the process. We were very excited to move forward with the installation. After we signed, they had to change the product due to lead time issues with the original product, which we agreed to and understood. After that, things went sideways with communications, coordination, execution and quality. Is seems that we have rarely spoken to the same person more than once since this started. The install started a couple of weeks after the new roof was installed. During the solar installation the installers broke so many tiles that they went through an entire pallet of spare tiles we had for our use. There are still many, many broken tiles and we have no clue when they will be repaired. It took them three tries to pass the inspection with the city due to incorrect breaker, no patch on the wall, etc. The quality of the installation is not great. Mostly the attention to detail was horrible. You can see in the photos that the installers displayed a total lack of "pride of ownership" in their work. Because of the issues above, we have delayed payment until there is at least a plan to make the corrections and Sunpower has sent us to their "collections" department. (Who in contrast to the rest of the company has exceptional communications, go figure.) Our system is not yet "commissioned" and I hope that once it is we feel better about our decision. read more
