Woke up early in search of a good breakfast place on the boardwalk and we were pleasantly surprised to find Cafe Beach Club. We were seated promptly and looked over the menu. I got the vegetarian omlette with potatoes and toast while my mom had 2 eggs sunny side up with potatoes and toast. Great portion sizes and we didn't leave hungry! We had the option to sit either outside or inside and we chose outside. We both ordered an eggs benedict. However, I also ordered a side of sausage links and a seasonal bowl of fruit which came with strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. Overall breakfast was nice. We ate breakfast here and based on the reviews, the way the place looked, and where it was - we expected a little bit more. All in all - it was just fine, not really any complaints, but it was just OK. My son had a bagel and egg sandwich which he said was good. My wife had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and a croissant. She said the eggs were pretty standard, but the croissant was too bready -- not light enough. The potatoes were very good - I enjoyed some of those. I had the coconut custard French toast and expected something a little different than I got. But - overall - it was fine, just not great. Prepared fine, with toasted coconut spread over the top. I had hoped that it would be in the batter and all over the toast, but it was only on top of the stack. They brought hot syrup, which I was excited about, but it was very buttery and rich. It was tasty, but you could only have a little bit -- and I love syrup. The coffee was decent, but nothing to write home about. We had breakfast which consisted of a fruit bowl for my daughter with strawberries, blueberries and bananas. I had the fruit, yogurt and granola. There was an additional $1 charge for the blueberries but the waitress told me before I ordered. I appreciate very much when they tell you about up-charges before you order. We liked this restaurant so much that we came back twice! When you arrive you are greeted by the chef's wife and one of the staff shows you to your table. If you can, get a table outside by the boardwalk. Tons of great people watching!! The first time we came, we had salads, chicken fingers and a delicious crab cake. I had a lot of questions about the crab because on an inconsistent basis, I have an allergic reaction to Maryland crab (allergist said I am not allergic and can't explain the reaction - so no heat or amateur doctor advice please). The chef came out and spoke with me about my allergy and gave me a very plausible alternative explanation for my reaction which so far seems to hold water. The second time, we came for breakfast and had yummy pancakes and eggs over corned beef hash. Very delicious. The bathroom is very clean and the staff is friendly. Servers are rotated through pretty often. Service can be a bit abrupt, however they're turning tables every 30 minutes or so. I guess it's to be expected. If you're looking for a solid breakfast, this is a place to try. French toast is always ok point for the kids. Their specials are usually pretty good and not the norm. Can be very tight quarters. What better to do on a showery morning at the Ocean City shore than to hit the boards for a nice breakfast. And we certainly did make the right choice by going to the Cafe Beach Club. The covered outdoor patio was already packed so we were lucky to score a table for three indoors, albeit with a nice view of the boardwalk and the ocean beyond. Service was friendly, attentive and quick despite the growing crowd of breakfasters. Coffee and water appeared right away along with the menus. We chose a special omelet of mushrooms and cheddar, chocolate chip pancakes and for me, two eggs sunny side up with English muffin and a side of...wait for it...scrapple. Everything was prepared well and despite my having to send my English muffin back for a trip under the Salamander to be warmed (seemed like it was a common complaint), much to our satisfaction. Oh, and the scrapple? Those of you who grew up with Quick Draw McGraw might remember Snuffles and his dog bis-qwits. Spot on! read more
