3.5 stars I always knew Sunrise Deli as the lone Middle Eastern deli on Irving Street, surrounded left and right by Asian grocery stores, boba shops, and restaurants. But they've expanded now to multiple locations and a food truck too. The Lamb Shawarma came with strips of marinated lamb & beef, along with lettuce, tomatoes, pickled cabbage, onions, and a light, smooth tahini-forward hummus to go along with the thin pita bread. But in my opinion, the thing to come for is the falafel, which were nicely seasoned, earthy, and crisp (though a bit on the oily side). The Avocado Falafel was a Californian-inspired combination that came with falafel, hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, pickled cabbage, and slices of avocado, which had a surprisingly pleasant creamy consistency to contrast the earthy falafel.

I like the combination of different flavors together, the savory meat, sour vegetables, and dredging onions mix together very well. Just the wrap is not too well cooked, and it felt like a quick prepped food making. I will personally not order again.

Eaten at Irving St location dozens of times. I love it - especially the creamy, runny tehini sauce. Also eaten at (fka) Berkeley location twice; wasn't as good. Off the Grid: long line, moved reasonably quickly. My falafel was delicious, but really small. AND, I ordered the Super and don't recall seeing any egg plant or potatoes. We took food somewhere else to eat it, and I was business associates so I let it go. Worst thing though - they don't stock the tehini I adore in the truck.

If you even were about to die, don't try this!! It's an absolute steal. $15 for this!! also on the menu it says it has rice which it doesn't have! 100% steal! And the food wasn't even fresh

Picture I posted can be a bit deceiving....looks tasty but it for sure was missing the "BAM: in flavor. Too expensive, don't think I will go back unless I am really, really craving a falafel or a shawarma.....uh, maybe not.

Veggie combo plate for $9. Well worth it.

Food was subpar. So many better choices in the neighborhood. Service was ok. The vibe inside felt stuffy and old.

Nice people, but unfortunately I cannot recall having falafel this dry. Thought I'd give their truck a try. Avoid.

Tried a lamb shawarma wrap at the outer sunset farmers market. For size and overall taste, not worth the price. Would skip this one

Smallest falafel wrap I've ever seen in my life and I got the super.. they need to add a lot more ingredients for what they're charging.

I'm sure there are other Persian cafés and restaurants as good as Lavash. I hardly stop to think about what made Lavash interesting. The floral aroma throughout the entire atmosphere, the gentleness of the waiters and hostesses who're well focused on serving others, and their signature paper thin Lavash bread. A clear teapot filled with saffron tea with rock candy on a stick; seen how they dip it in after pouring the tea. Interesting orange color indeed! A plate of zucchini, grape tomatoes, Moroccan mint leaves, and a pair of Bulgarian cheese; complimentary for my first visit here. Persian noodle soup, filled with beans, chickpeas, and lentils; loved the floral notes in every spoonful. Main course, veggie kabob on a bed of basmati rice drenched in saffron and spices, along with some onions and mushrooms, and of course, a large Lavash bread at the bottom to fill the whole plate. The best part is to completely sandwich wrap after I marginalized the contents on the plate. Ahhh! Satisfying to the last bite of herbs and spices. Not filling though, but I had no need for any dessert. Another highly recommended place to eat for locals and tourists alike. I let some of my friends know how much they'll love the best Persian dishes locals raved about. Thumbs up for the people of Lavash!

The Shawarma Combo Plate came with both chicken shawarma and lamb/beef shawarma, marinated, grilled strips of meat, topped with toum and green tahini, and served with yellow rice, arugula salad, hummus, and grilled slices of pita. The Combo Kebab Plate was an equally delicious collection of three grilled meat kebabs--I chose the chicken shish tawook, the lamb shish kebab, and the ground beef kafta. My favorite components of these dishes were the falafel and hummus, which went perfectly together with the grilled pita and the flavorful condiments. But a final favorite dish of mine was the Zahra Be Laben, a stew of fried cauliflower and tender cubes of lamb in a warm garlic yogurt sauce, served with yellow rice and pita bread on the side. The best part of this dish was the yogurt sauce, which was perfectly creamy, savory, and tangy, and which went perfectly with the other components. Overall, the flavors of the food here were all on point and worth the price. The service, however, was slow and not particularly attentive.

We loved the Combo appetizer plate which came with generous portions of 9 different items. I loved everything ! I'm an eggplant lover and two of the dips were eggplant based . My new favorite dip is the Mercimek Kofte which is a red lentil based chunky dip ; I would've guessed garbanzo bean based dip. The Haydari dip was also super addictive, a thick creamy dip made of kefir cheese and Greek yogurt. So many delicious but gut healthy items of the combo plate; which comes with thin lavash bread. Also loved the red lentil soup, which was warming on a rainy day. I thought it was flavorful without being overly spiced or too thick. My husband enjoyed the lamb kebabs. Tender juicy cuts of lamb that were well seasoned , comes on a bed of salad and rice. We also liked the charred red peppers and onions on the kebab . From the River to the Sea…read more This is the second location for this local, family-owned Palestinian restaurant that opened in 2019 and is operated by Samir Mogannam, the son of the former owner of the Burgermeister that formerly occupied this space, as well as the original Church St. location. Mogannam did a complete rebrand from an American burger restaurant to a fast-casual "Arabic comfort food" establishment that's named in honor of his mother and features her scratch-made recipes. To say it's a success is an understatement, as they've been named one of the best restaurants in SF not just by the Chronicle, but even made the NY Times' "The 25 Best Restaurants in San Francisco Right Now." After one visit, it's clear to see why. The Good: * Yelp Waitlist available * Bus stop right outside the door * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * Fast-casual order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. * Service was friendly and efficient. * Palestinian and Jordanian beers in bottles! I didn't even know that was a thing. * Falafel were about 98.753% like my mom's. In a word: delicious. * Musakhan was phenomenal. The chicken was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and the sumac-onion "relish" was spot on. Get this. * Handmade pita bread was delicious. * Carissa enjoyed her Shish Tawook plate, as they were smart again and used chicken thighs which kept the well-seasoned meat nice and juicy. The concomitant hummus was fantastic, and the "Mom's Rice" was fuhgeddaboudit good. She did think the chicken could've used an extra thirty seconds on the grill to firm up the meat just a touch, but otherwise it was perfect. The Meh: * The Fattoush salad was just OK. It was overdressed and needed more dates that were cut into smaller pieces so that you get more of it in each bite to help offset the vinegar. The Ugly: * Parking here is a real hassle, as it's street parking only and it's all neighborhoods. So, be prepared to drive around endlessly looking for an opening. Conclusion: Best Palestinian food outside of me mum's kitchen. 'Nuff said. **https://www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2024/best-san-francisco-restaurants/ ***https://www.nytimes.com/article/best-san-francisco-restaurants.html

The lamb shank was perfectly falling off the bone and the fried branzino was my favorite! It was cooked to perfection with the lemon and herbs on it and the crispy skin.
