Beef Empanada

Best baked beef empanada I've ever had!! The crust is honestly my favorite part. It's slightly sweet, savory, and the texture is like a flaky shortbread. Most places make theirs either too plain or greasy. Whenever I have a craving for empanadas, I think of this place! Beef is tender and the ratio to crust is perfect! Came on a Saturday this time and it came with free coffee. Hope more people discover them!

Delicious! I stopped by Gery's this afternoon while driving through the neighborhood. I was craving a sandwich, saw that these were Peruvian sandwiches and had to stop. I unfortunately stopped by right before they closed and they were pretty much sold out of everything. BUT The owner super sweet, offered me the chicken sandwich and the last veggie empanada. I was going to come back another time but I decided to take her up on it. It did not disappoint. The veggie empanada, so good! Very flavorful and probably the BEST puff pastry I've had in SF. The pastry is sweet, soft, and dense and just the right amount to balance the grilled veggies inside. I usually don't get veggie empanadas I go for chicken or beef but I loved these. I'll be back to try all of them. The chicken sandwich is the perfect size, tasty and on a freshly baked roll, it also has these little string crispy potato like things (?) that added crunch to the sandwich which I loved. It's a cold sandwich and great for a warm day. I also tried the chicha morada and loved it! Sweet but not too sweet and not over powering with the cinnamon. It's one of my all time favorite drinks. I will definitely be back try more. I should have come earlier in the day, however I'm glad I didn't leave and tried some of the items on the menu. It's a cute, quant, deli that fits just a few. But loved the vibe, owner and the staff, so kind and friendly. It's only been open for 6 weeks, you have to try this place out! Also did I mention great prices?! :)

A delicious bakery/Peruvian food cafe just opened in the Inner Richmond. It's on a not very high traffic 6th Ave between California and Clement. If you are like me and need to visualize by other restaurants or landmarks, it's located across the street from Mandalay and where Not Latte /Ha Tea used to be. It's more of a store front with maybe a small table with 2 chairs outside. The baker/owner is a very lovely and gracious woman. We visited for the first time yesterday and enjoyed some delicious anise bread. We also enjoyed the braised pork sandwich. Slightly dry pork but with the accompanying hot sauce, it was delicious! Also the decaf latte was yummy. She mentioned that on weekends, she will start offering Peruvian food, not just Sandos, so we can't wait to come back to try some new things.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking into this cafe I fell, I fell in love with the Peruvian decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Aside from this, the food was great -- I had a steak sandwich and chocolate cake, which were both great. The bread for the sandwiches was freshly out the oven. The service was overall good.

Such a yummy pork tamale!

Best tamales I've had in a long time! [[HIGHLIGHT]]A very cute and tiny neighborhood gem with delicious options and friendly service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Geraldine was so kind and personable and offered to warm up my tamale. I just wolfed down that tamale now--it was packed with flavor and blew me away! Can't wait to eat the chicken one too...I'm so lucky to live nearby this place and I will definitely be back!

Pan con chicharron.

Had a lovely experience here at this tiny Peruvian sandwich shop. There's very very little seating, just FYI! Pan con chicharron was delicious, not too heavy and the pork was perfectly cooked, not oily. The bread on the sandwich really stood out to me...incredibly fresh, light, and crispy. The house made hot sauce was very spicy and delicious as well. Service was lovely!! Quick, friendly, thoughtful (Gery asked if I wanted onions on my sandwich since I hadn't clarified when ordering). Definitely plan to come back and try other sandwiches, tamales, and the desserts including the alfajores and passion fruit cheesecake. Wishing Gery's much success here for many, many years to come!

I had just missed my bus and so I had 15 minutes to wait until the next bus and I was super hungry. I just looked up spots that were super close to me and found this café. I walked over and the closed sign was on the front door, even though I still had about six minutes until they officially closed. The woman inside, came out and opened the door for me and allowed me to come in to make a quick purchase, that was really nice of her. They only had chicken empanadas left so I bought one. The empanada was one of the best I've tried in the city. Thought it was better than all the popular ones in the ferry building. It was so flaky and the filling inside was so flavorful. It was like a salsa picante chicken that was inside and it was just really good. It also tasted pretty authentic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would definitely go back here. I'm so glad I randomly came across this place and also it just opened like four months ago so it's super new. I don't think a lot of people know about it, it's a very tiny shop. You can't really sit inside. You kind of just go inside to get something and leave. Will definitely be coming back here. Highly recommend if you are in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Delicious empanadas! I tried both the chicken and the beef. They taste like they have a little powdered sugar on them.

They also give you complimentary taro chips. It was my friend's birthday as well so they gave us a free tres leches dessert with a candle - super cute and sweet of them! The food was delicious, and the dessert was amazing as well! The cake had a good cinnamon flavor, and was creamy and not too sweet! The dishes were also very good. My friend's dish was a bit smoky with a side of rice. My dish was a good fulfilling combination of seafood and wagyu steak, on a bed of rice. Definitely a very delicious meal! The ambiance is also very nice - the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The service was also very good :) Would definitely come back again for more meals!

The restaurant itself, as the name implies, serves the greatest seafood hits Peru has to offer. It sits right on the SF Pier (1 and 1/2) and even has a patio overlooking the water and bougie yachts! (Super nice! Bring a jacket for the patio though--this is San Francisco!!) We sat in the main dining room. The main dining room has simple decor--very industrial-looking. Our waiter, Brad, brought us some papas nativas chips and huacatay sauce to dunk them in. I love huacatay and this sauce was fresh and flavorful! We devoured the entire tub of chips. We then got a Causa California which is an elevated classic causa with crab, quail eggs, tomatoes, purple potatoes, and aji amarillo sauce. DELICIOUS! It wasn't plated in the classic fashion, where the crab is between layers of the potato puree, but it didn't detract from the flavor or presentation one bit. Next were the Anticuchos: a slam dunk! I found the flavor to be slightly different to classic anticuchos, but delicious! Pro tip: do NOT let the waiter take away your huacatay sauce so you can dunk the crispy potatoes in the sauce! For our entree, we split a Chaufa Aeropuerto. Again, some creative liberties were taken: broccoli was added when the OG dish usually doesn't have broccoli. The stone dish it comes in also seemed really small--but do not be fooled! Inside is PLENTY of delicious goodness! The scrambled egg on top with the shrimp and Wagyu beef took this dish to flavor town!!! The only thing I would add to it is something crunchy, like wontons. By this point, we were stuffed, but there's always some room for dessert! So we split a Choco-Maracuya. LOVED this dessert! You crack it to reveal the layers. The presentation makes it look like a lemon but it's chocolate! Inside are 2 layers of chocolate and passionfruit cheesecake. SO GOOD--with the graham cracker and strawberry crumble? YUMMmm! The only down side was that someone told my friend the sparkling water was free (it wasn't). Not sure if that was a misunderstanding? Regardless, if you want some classic Peruvian seafood dishes (with some twists) come to La Mar! I know I'll be returning multiple times as I LOVE all of Gaston Acurio's restaurants! Bill attached below! Also, special shoutout to Brad and the entire service team, who were very sweet and constantly checked in to make sure we were having a good time!

Much more flavor than merely lime as the sauce. Also, good variety different seafood like clams, mussels, calamari and fish. Plus corn bits and some sweet potato. Really jam packed with deliciousness. Chicharron de Pollo: Thin and crispy, it seemed like there was skin attached to the deep fried chicken, giving it an extra crunchy. Nice creamy sauce. And the pickled onions added a good tang. Lomo Saltado: One of my favorite dishes, so had to order it here. The flavors were on point with a generous amount of that sauce. The equally balanced forkfuls with steak, onion, tomatoes and fries were divine. Unfortunately, they were a bit skimpy on the beef since the balanced forkfuls ended quickly and then there were a lot of fry heavy bites. It looked meaty when it first arrived, but I think the trick is that all the meat was on top, nothing mixed in. Aji de Gallina: Shredded chicken in a light yellow sauce. Though it tasted little bland. Like not creamy enough and not spicy enough. It was still decent, but could have been better. Picarones: Maybe the best thing I ordered. The doughnuts were made fresh to order, still warm and a little gooey. And that sticky sweet sauce with subtle spices were amazing. I did extra rounds on the plate to ensure I could soak up as a much as possible with each doughnut bite.

There is a nice selection off the main menu for Happy Hour 4-6pm. Providing an opportunity to sample one or more of the menu items as an appetizer. I chose the mussels with garlic bread, as good ones are not found easily. The portion was quite ample, and the sauce I dipped my nice crunchy garlic bread in was very flavorful, warm and delicious. I also tried the plantains which were cooked perfectly; not too mushy with a perfect char, and the sweet onions on top were also tasty. Paired with a very tangy dipping sauce. All the flavors came together well. My husband ordered the Cantina burger which he enjoyed down to the last bite. Our daughter also sampled off the smaller menu with Lomo Empanadas and the Chicharron de Pollo which she reported were both very nicely prepared. Will, our server gave us excellent recommendations which we availed ourselves of. The bill for 4 items plus the burger, a side of rice, and a ginger beer came to just under seventy dollars, which was a reasonable price. I would definitely give the food five stars, and the restaurant four as it's a long and lengthy bar with a few tables for two. The majority of the seating is in the back with two flat screens and an open kitchen. I can imagine how loud this place can get. We went at the perfect time: not a lot of customers so we received excellent individualized service from Will. I would hope to be able to return next time we visit GG Park and sample some more menu items like the Peruvian Paella which sounded very promising.

My first time ordering it and I will look for it next time I'm at a Peruvian restaurant * chicken is well prepared, almost all the meat has been skillfully separated from the bone and flattened, resulting in a crispy & well-coated chicken that can be eaten almost without utensils. * while the chicken is well prepared, coated, and cooked, I wish it had either more spices or was paired with a sauce for some extra moisture & flavor diversity. * The boiled potato really exceeded my expectation. It's so 'potato', as a potato lover I appreciate how minimally processed it is. It's not mashed or mixed with flavorings, it's really just a perfectly cooked potato with a drizzle of sauce. I don't think the potato will blow anyone's socks off but I really liked it :) Service is very friendly, it's giving family owned vibes. The interior is festive with lots of Peruvian decorations and there's a cute faux grass welcoming mat outside to set the mood. Overall I recommend this place! I think it's a great spot especially because there's plentiful parking and nothing compatible in the immediate surrounds.
