Not sure where to start. My wife and I were out on a long walk building up an appetite in Sunset Dunes when we decided to look for some Mediterranean food and found this on the map. I gotta say, we were very pleased! The food was fresh and different from the common dishes you find elsewhere in the city. We got the fried cauliflower which surprised the hell out us. They were not deep fried and overly battered, they were lightly fried on the outside, crispy and soft on the inside with great zesty flavor! The spicy hummus was flavorful with a drizzle of high quality olive oil. The pita is soft and lightly toasted, goes really well with the hummus. It easily ranks Top 50 of all time in any cuisine and quite possibly Top 25. I would even rank it against an upscale restaurant that requires a jacket to seat. The ambiance is vibrant and very clean. At first, I thought my order had been mixed up, but it was explained to me that the Greek version resembles lasagna, while the Lebanese version is prepared as a stew. The stew featured a rich tomato sauce with eggplant and chickpeas, and I added beef and lamb meatballs for extra protein. It was absolutely delicious and incredibly comforting. I'd also highly recommend the mint lemonade -- it was the perfect palate cleanser. We'll definitely be adding this spot to our regular rotation. Also the chicken schwarma wrap, flatbreads and combo plate both for dine in and takeout. Food is fresh, hot and I would eat there everyday if I could! Their food is sooo good! Was there yesterday and had Brika, Fattet Batenjen, Halloumi Salad, and Kofta Meatballs. I was not familiar with these dishes but was blown away how delicious these were! Just the meatballs were a little too spicy for me. But with all these dishes you could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients, real food made from scratch! Cane here with two good friends on a cold and rainy Friday night. The hardest part of the outing was finding parking! I drove around for about 15 minutes until the parking gods smiled upon me and I snagged a spot on the same block! My friend did not have such luck and had to park about a 20 minute walk away! Not Zitounas fault at all but be fair warned that parking in this area can be challenging. On to the food, ambience and service! The ambience is welcoming and simple. The decor is minimal with murals and if I recall correctly some framed artwork. Very cafe eatery vibes. This is a sit down restaurant where you order at the cashier with a staff member and they give you a number. We were able to order our appetizers first and then our entrees later and split the bill. They give you a number so the servers know where to bring the food and all orders on assigned to that number. The portions are humongous. In the Bay Area I've gotten used to paying for a $20 salad but when it came out, I am not joking - this salad could feed a family of four! It was a large plate liked high with fresh romaine, tasty juicy chicken, halloumi cheese and cucumbers. Wow it was so good! We had also ordered appetizers. And I had a cup of their lentil soup. We had the sample dip combo plate where we were able to choose 4 different dips. We chose two hummus, one spicy dip. (Can't remember the name) and babaganoush. The pita bread is warm and fresh and each dip was addicting, fresh and so full of flavor. They know how to do it right! More entrees! One friend ordered the salmon plate which was also a generous portion and could be shared by two people easily. My other friend ordered one of the wraps which was amazing. Tender meat and so flavorful. We all took home enough leftovers for a whole other meal! I shared my leftover salad with my husband for lunch h the next day! The shawarma was very flavorful and the hummus was excellent, creamy and well balanced. The plate also came with a salad that was a bit overly seasoned for my taste, but the rest of the dish was very enjoyable. My friend ordered the Kofta Plate ($16.99). The kofta was also very good and the hummus again stood out as a highlight. Similar to my plate, the salad was a little over dressed. For the table, we shared the Tzatziki ($9.99). Unfortunately this was the one item that did not quite work for us. The cucumber pieces were cut too large and the flavor tasted a bit too runny. My friend also ordered the Mint Lemonade ($5.99) and said it was absolutely delicious and very refreshing. Service is cafeteria style where you order at the counter and pick up your food, which makes it quick and casual. Overall the food was solid, especially the shawarma, kofta, and hummus. I would personally rate it around a 3.5, but since Yelp only allows whole stars I rounded up.
