Went in this morning around 9am, bought donuts and kolaches, all were undercooked. Donuts raw dough, kolaches the same.

There are two things that I love in the morning, watching the sunrise and eating donuts. This place just so happens to be called Sunrise Donuts. Coincidence? I think not. This place is very economical, so you won't spend a lot, but you will get a lot of donuts. Aside from the cheap prices, this place really fills you up and prepares you for the morning to come. Now for the food: The Food: I had a chocolate frosted donut, the giant cinnamon roll, and the kolaches (jalapeno/cheese sausage wrapped in soft bread, AKA "pig in a blanket"). Chocolate Frosted Donut: PICK ME UP. Sweet and chocolately without being too much. Best eaten right when they come out warm since you get the light and fluffy texture of the donut. The best part is when you bite into it, the glazed frosting cracks, you hear the soft crunch, and your mouth meets the warm and sweet donut. Their chocolate frosted donut is something I would wake up early for. Giant Cinnamon Roll: ONLY $1. Huge cinnamon roll about the size of a human head! Definitely something you can share with a friend or family member. Sweet and glazed with a very simple cinnamon flavor. Although it is only $1, it tastes like a generic cinnamon roll that you can bake from a premade Pillsbury cinnamon roll. If you don't have the time to make cinnamon rolls, this place will get it to you for cheap. However, the simple and generic cinnamon flavor and generic sugar sweetness, combined with the large size, made this a little tough to eat (-2 stars). I would rather go for a leftover Cinnabon from the day before. Kolaches: CHEESE, SPICE, and EVERYTHING SOFT and NICE. Usually, sausages either have too much salt, a strong preservative or nitrate aftertaste that burns the back of the throat, or lack any special flavors. The jalapeno, cheese sausage in the kolaches is just balanced so that it doesn't ruin your morning. GET THESE HOT and you won't regret them. The bun that wraps the sausage has yeast, which provides the sweet, soft, and fluffiness that make this kolache a great experience. This is pretty much a mini-meal in itself. The Verdict: GET THEM HOT AND EARLY. Cheap donut shop with a great chocolate frosted donut and kolaches. The giant cinnamon roll is only $1, but it tastes pretty generic (you can make this at home). But for $1, you could satisfy a cinnamon roll craving. Definitely worth it to drop by. Even if it rains in Dallas, you know that there is a Sunrise Donuts that will make your morning a little better. read more

Donuts are without a doubt my guilty breakfast pleasure (if you can even call it breakfast), and while I held off as long as I could, I finally caved and decided to give some of the Dallas donut shops a test drive. Sunrise Donuts was up first, and has set a pretty high bar. Star 1 - How was the service and atmosphere? Locally owned and operated in a convenient strip mall, Sunrise Donuts is quick and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and seem to cater to a steady flow of regulars, which is always nice to see. Even on Saturday morning, the line moved quickly and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Star Granted. Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost? Reasonable without a doubt. Their glazed donut is light and airy with just the right amount of glaze. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was very good and easily beat chains like Krispy Kreme. From there, cinnamon roll was solid while the powdered cinnamon was a tad on the weak side, but overall, I was pleased. Single Star Granted. Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could? There are quite a few donut options in the city, and as of present, Sunrise is the only one I've tried. I'm going to hold off here, but if I try say two more and find they don't add up to Sunrise? Love this cute little shop, their doughnuts are the best! The service is always fast and their staff is super nice. I have never had to wait more than a minute or two which makes it a perfect quick stop on my way to work. They have a great variety of everything from kolaches to cake doughnuts to muffins. I personally can recommend the jalapeño and cheese kolaches, the croissant kolaches, the maple glazed bar, and the round frosted with sprinkles. I was in a tough spot because I arrived into Dallas late and no donut shops were open so I was panicked trying to figure out what to do. I searched online and saw that this place opened at 5am. I had an urge this weekend for some donuts and kolache's. I tried this place out and while all the assorted donuts were good as well as the kolache's I have no idea what cost what. I got a dozen different donuts, eclair, old fashioned chocolate, old fashioned glazed, choclate cake, cinnamon twist, apple fritter, blue berry cake, couple glazed and chocolate, and a cinnamon roll. I also got a dozen kolaches, 6 jalapeno cheese and 6 regular. Got some chocolate and strawberry milk as well. Nothing on the receipt was labelled, just numbers @ numbers, total was $28.33. Hooray they were open on the 4th of July!! Came in to grab some donuts for mi amigos before we headed out to celebrate. Was happy to see they have a decent selection of kolaches as well as donuts. I went with some sausage & cheese kolaches, red white n blue donuts, an eclair, an apple fritter, and one cream filled and one raspberry filled. The donuts were fresh, but the service is a little slow (they hand fill each donut when you order them). The had some other breakfast items I'll come back to try, a spinach and feta pastry and some good looking breakfast sandwiches. They also have a cooler full of milks, juices, and coffee drinks. Our favorite little local place to get donuts that is dangerously close to our house. The donuts are cheap and they have croissant kolaches (drool) which is a rare find! I was on the road one morning and got the craving. I immediately resorted to Yelp to satiate the donut hunger. Sunrise Donuts was the closest spot so I headed over. Ordered chocolate frosted, chocolate frosted with sprinkles, plain glazed and a jalapeño cheese sausage roll. The donuts were fresh and delicious. Soft and not exuberantly sweet. I was very satisfied. The jalapeño sausage roll were a bit disappointing. I've visited numerous donut spots in Dallas and I've had better. These tasted a bit generic. The service was impeccable. The ladies were very nice and attentive. The prices were awesome. Very economical. Ultimately- GO HERE! I loved the donuts and will for sure be back when in the area. I stopped by here yesterday morning... I had eaten the donuts before but it had been so long that I couldn't remember if they were any good or not. Being open on a Sunday is a huge plus for me since most small shops are closed. There was no line and when I ordered my 2 donuts and left I had regret... For NOT ORDERING MORE!!! In my quest to find the best donuts near me, I finally made my way to Sunrise Donuts. I won't even bother using Kroger's donuts as a point of comparison just because of how big of a difference there was with King Donuts. Instead, how does Sunrise Donuts compete with the self-proclaimed King of Donuts? Quite well! While the location is slightly more inconvenient (can't stop by right after groceries), it's right across from Zaguan's on Oak Lawn. The "Donuts" sign might be a bit tough to spot at first, but no worries. And from first glance, this place already looked nicer than King Donuts. The interior is all very clean and neat. The decorations fit in place and they have a nicer display. Their selection of donuts, like King Donuts doesn't seem super impressive (they're both small non-chain donut stores) but they have the essentials. I ordered the same set of donuts here (glazed/chocolate/creamfilled) and 2 kolaches (sausage+cheese/sausage+cheese+jalapenos). Their donuts are comparable to those at King Donuts, though I think they felt slightly fresher. You could also taste the fried batter a bit more which could be good or bad depending on your preference (for me it gave me the impression of being fresher). The kolaches were alright, but I'd definitely take King Donuts' less carbs more meat and business kolaches. As far as donuts are concerned, I'm pretty torn between the two. This place is certainly a bit prettier to look at, but the quality of food is a toss up. read more

Their signage just says "Donuts" and they're in a little dumpy strip center off Oak Lawn, but don't let that fool you...I'm SO happy my hubby stumbled across this place. The doughnuts here are average. Just what I would expect from a doughnut place. Other reviews echoed my experience with the lack of variety this place offers. Just good, old fashioned awesome doughnuts, old-school, fresh and delicious here at Sunrise Donuts. One of the few traditional, family-operated donut shops located near uptown/Oak Lawn Dallas. I am a regular on weekend mornings, because I stay often at the LeMeridien Stonleigh on Maple, and am never disappointed by the selection of available donuts at Sunrise, including the mandatory cinnamon roll, in both large and small sizes. The real test of a great donut shop is the quality and availability of really fresh, soft glazed donuts. I am not a real lover of kolaches--normally I'm craving sugar in the morning, but occasionally, the sweet and hot combination of cinnamon rolls and jalepeno, cheese kolaches goes great 2% milk. The kolaches are muy fabuloso! The family that runs Sunshine are really sweet--all the time. They smile. They're gracious and thankful for your business.
