Good breakfast and very quick service. We stopped here on our way from Chicago to Cincinnati for a quick breakfast and it did not disappoint. There are so many menu items it was hard to decide! My boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs with pancakes plus a bagel. He said the steak was really good. I ordered the broccoli omelette with hash browns and wheat toast. The omelette didn't have a lot of flavor but with some salt and pepper it tasted good and was very filling. We wish we lived closer so we could come back! read more

This is one of the best little diners I have been to. Thus why its a part of Saturday/Sunday tradition to eat breakfast here in the mornings. Place is a friendly family owned establishment. Whiting is a small community so it seams like everyone knows everybody. The coffee is one of the best. Seriously its addicting and the waitresses never leave your cup empty always giving you a "warm up" aka coffee refill. We usually opt for the 2,2,2. Which is 2 eggs, 2, sausage, 2 bacon hash browns and 2 pancakes all for $4.99! I mean the price is great and the taste even better! Ive always experienced great customer service here and the homeish feeling thus the reason why i return to this establishment on a weekly basis. read more

This is your typical american breakfast place. Good eggs, good potatoes, good meats and GREAT pancakes/french toast/waffles. Definitely the place I hit often when in need of a breakfast. Their lunch and dinner menu is also good. It's perfect for that day you don't feel like cooking, but not the place I'd go out to. read more

Nothing in Whiting beats Sunrise this is a great place for breakfast. Ive tried two other places her for breakfast and each time wish I had went to sunrise instead. This is probably my favorite small business dinner by where I live which is in south Chicago. Even though this place is in Indiana its not that far from the loop ( 20 min drive on 40).Everything that I ever ordered was always hot n fresh. Great staff awesome service. read more

Been here a few times for breakfast and lunch and it's never disappointed. They have a large menu, everything has been great, both food and service. Servers have all been very friendly and make you feel welcome here. It's nice to go to a local place and feel welcome and not hurried. Finding street parking can be a challenge at times. My family and I have been going there for years. We have always had great food there, but today, it was extremely disappointing. I had the sirloin steak dinner and the only thing edible was the salad. The steal was so tough I couldn't even cut through it. My son and granddaughters breakfasts were not very good either. This is a Chicago area style Greek restaurant. Everything is on the menu including lemon rice soup which by the way came with my lovely turkey bacon club. Others enjoyed chorizo omelets with has browns. I would show the cook how to serve an omelette without browning it but some people like it that way. I had a bad experience at this restaurant today with a waitress, she gave me a styrofoam cup with an added touch of sassy-ness because i brought in a dunkin donuts coffee. She says "can you pour your coffee in here" i ask "why?" to which she responds "because we have coffee here" how rude and annoying, if this is how your servers are going to treat customers i do not want to come here again. read more

This was my first time eating here and it was pretty good had pancakes, turkey sausage, and egg whites. I will come here to order food if I am in the area. I have a big love for small town diners with good food because I was raised going to the quaint mom and pop places. I had the 1/2 baked chicken special. Having been a cook for many years in a restaurant it was obvious that the chicken had been boiled --used to make chicken soup. It came mushed together with a chicken skin stretched on top chard under a broiler--no brown but blond and black. I noticed something was wrong as soon as she brought it over to the table...one taste and knew it was soup meat! The waitress did replace it with the fried chicken ...but that too tasted not up to par--ref ride old chicken. She never took my salad plate and other dishes off the table, and never refilled my soda...she never came around again. I was nice and left her over a nine dollar tip on a $11.21 check. Later I had a stomach ache .... Not Recommending ! That food should have never come out of that kitchen !!! I was there years ago ...it was pretty good. I found out from locals at the church that it now has new owners...they said "it is not like it used to be". NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN! P.S. When I asked the waitress what she would recommend for dinner ...She rudely said " What?!" So I rephrased it and said " a what do you like to eat here?" She bickered and said " I don't eat here ! Comfortable little place in downtown Whiting. Not many other little diners around this area where you can go in and get a good breakfast (in Whiting that is), so this place is a great necessity. The food keeps getting better since a car plowed into the front of it going 100 MPH. The redone building, atmosphere, & food makes me come back often & they serve all their food menus all day! Breakfast late into the day at the Sunrise is amazing. I eat there often & the decor in the building since the rebuild is great, hope you all get a chance to try their Breakfast eggs, Hash Browns, Corned Beef Hash, or Lunch BLT's soon! Three strikes and they're out! Waited 30 minutes for a steak wrap. I phoned my order in, waited ten minutes then went to pick it up ~ not ready. I went there on my lunch break (30 minutes) because they are close. Unfortunately I waited another 20 minutes in the restaurant before I was given my order. Not happy when I spend 20 minutes out of my 30 minute lunch hour waiting for food I called ahead and ordered. Also be aware that their prices on paper menus and their website are incorrect. Of course, the price is higher when you get there. An apology was all I got for their "false advertising". I will not be returning and will be sharing my views of this restaurant with friends and family. read more

Ordered food here once. The food wasn't as bad as other restaurants but honestly it tastes cheap and cold. I had ordered a Hamburger with Fries. The hamburger patty was cold and the meat tasted of poor quality. The fries were good. That is pretty much the only good thing to say about this restaurant. I didn't like the attendant's manners. My daughter had the hot dog kids meal, I had the roast beef open faced sandwich. She wouldn't take a second bite from the hot dog because it was the nastiest hot dog she has ever tasted, and I tried it and agreed. My roast beef had barely any flavor, as was the mashed potatoes and gravy. The only redeeming part of the meal was the chicken and rice soup, which was pretty good. The service was bad, as when we walked in the sign said that a host will seat you, but he just handed us some menus and said to sit wherever you wanted. The wait staff was slow, taking about 5 minutes to wait for check after asking for it, despite it being very slow at the time. We did have 2 meals for under $15.00, so maybe we did get what we paid for. Still, I used to eat here all the time and always got a good meal for that price. They must have really skimmed their menu budget, because it was the worst meal we've had out all year. One plus, though, was the waitresses were rather cute, so I did leave her a $5.00 tip, anyway. read more
