My wife and I heard about REC Solar through a friend and of my wife. Once their REC Solar system was installed they simply raved about it. After hearing about the incredible savings and the other wonderful benefits, my wife and I decided to go with REC Solar. We've only had our solar system for about a week now and so for it's been great. What I was really impressed with was the three young gentlemen that preformed our installation. I have been a member of Costco since 1985 and have loved shopping at Costco not only because of their wide range of options at good prices but also because to their customer focus and unparalleled support they provide on their products compared to other stores. This was until recently, when we decided to have Sunrun come to our house to install Solar panels. After punching the numbers, we told them the only reason we were interested was because we were planning to install an air conditioning unit in our house. We decided to move ahead, mainly because we were under the impression that Costco would be behind us, and looking for our best interests as Sunrun was an affiliate partner of theirs. We trusted that Costco would choose an affiliate partner that would always have the consumers best interest in mind. Sadly, this was not the case. For first time I learned not to E-Sign and always ask for paper documents. The day the Sunrun team arrived, I left them alone trusting they knew what they were doing. The installation was installed in the wrong place during the first day of installation. When we called them to express our concerns about the way the project was completed, we asked them to come and change the location. When they came to relocate the equipment, to our surprise, they informed us they would also have to change the Solar panels as well, since they had installed the panels wrong as well. It wasn't until 6 another company's notify us that the Solar panels are 290 watts would not produce enough energy for our household and future plans and what they should of install 360 watts. The aftermath was a nightmare for us. They had damaged our stucco and refused to match the repairs to our original stucco color, even after we had provided them with the information about our original stucco color. In the process, they chose to please their own benefits rather than our own concerns. Upset from these issues, we quickly reached out to Costco, trusting that they would have our best interests in mind. We were welcomed with laughter and apathy by the Costco Representatives when discussing Sunrun. They suggested that if we weren't happy, then we should go "stand in line" because they had a line of lawyers in their possession and they would not have any problems defending and wining the case. Although the project was done in May of 2019, we have not turned on our solar panels due to the legal battles of our issues with Sunrun. My Advice to any future customers would be a few things: 1. Please be aware of the affiliate partners you are conducting business with. 2. I encourage you to shop around during this process, as Sunrun is one of the many options available that offers customers with solar needs. I hope going forward you learn from our story and can better evaluate the business model, as well as the customer focus, from Sunrun. We had hoped, and ultimately wished, for a much better experience than we bargained for. read more

I consider myself a very careful and deliberate consumer... I do my research, compare all aspects, and then laser-in on what I want. That said, SunRun has been one of my best decisions! And Kenny was a HUGE part of my excitement every time I tell my family and friends. Right from the start, Kenny took the time, went through all the numbers and scenarios, meticulously explained the design recommendations for the total number of panels, placement, and battery, etc., and reasons behind it all... he KNOWS his craft! (I'm also a 'techie' so I asked a ton of questions!) And still being a little skeptical, I held off on writing this review... but 6months after a flawless installation and setup (clean & aesthetic, both inside/outside, and rooftop... thumbs up to the very professional & cool install crew!!!) everything that Kenny projected has come to fruition! Best of all, my $500+/month SCE bill (full house w 3 kids, large pool, Tesla charging, etc) is now a net positive credit, even in the recent cloudy/rainy winter months... I can't wait to see my numbers this spring and summer! And backed by Costco's customer incentives and roof warranty, how can you go wrong? I believe I asked more than an average buyer and he obliged all my question. Even the little silly questions that is important to me. I started the process after his visitation and the terms of the solar system was clearly stated and drawn out. I am going through Costco solar panel deal which gave me 5 more years roof cover protection and about $550 cash back in Costco credit based on the complete solar system cost. He did an amazing job answering my questions and taking our actual bills and showing us the actual savings. Every person I dealt with was amazing. The emails I received explaining the time line was so helpful, I had no idea it was such a long process. My husband and I were sold that we wanted to go solar until we noticed that if we ever wanted to pay off the lease balance early, we would be getting SCREWED financially! The only way this deal makes sense is to do a pre-paid lease or plan on making payments for 20 years. There is definitely a pre-paid penalty (even though they tell you there is not) if you want to lease and pay off the balance early. We were quoted $3k down and $171 per month and they say the total cost of the system is $23k because they take the $10k tax credit. If we paid off the lease after 3 years, our balance would still be $24k. That's 27% interest! $10k they make on financing in 3 years. It would be cheaper for me to put it on my credit card and pay them a lower interest rate. My advice is to wait until you have the liquid cash to either purchase the system and take the tax credit yourself or pre pay the entire lease up front. read more

We're in Lemon Grove in San Diego County. We were referred to Sunrun by our CPA who was very pleased with his own home Sunrun solar system. We met with Jesse Dean who explained everything quite well, answered many questions, and gave us print outs of our quotes and options. We signed that day for a no-money-down 20-year lease. It took about four months for design, permits, installation, and inspections before we were generating our own power - including the time it took us to install a new roof before the panels went on so we wouldn't have to disturb the solar panels in a few years. Everyone at Sunrun was helpful and professional. They sent me weekly updates to confirm exactly where we were in the entire process and show what steps lay ahead. They arranged for everything including an electrical panel upgrade to 200 amps. We just had to be at home a few times so they had access to the attic, etc. We had no problems, they listened to any concerns we had and promptly answered questions. The system is working well, our electric bill from SDG&E is nearly zero, and we're very glad we hired them. As an unexpected side benefit, the solar panels shade our roof so the house doesn't heat up like it used to on hot days. Not only is the solar generating the electricity we use, but the air conditioner doesn't have to run nearly as much. Because we're at the age of retirement, it's very nice to know that we have fixed our monthly utility rate at a flat $90 for the next 20 years and our bills won't go up over time while our income is flat. Now I can run our A/C in the summer without pangs of guilt and concern over the cost! I very highly recommend Sunrun. They'll take care of any repair over the life of our contract with no additional financial cost to us. Also, I think solar increases the market value of our home should we ever sell. We're saving money already and will save much more as utility rates rise over the next two decades, so this was a no-brainer for us. It would have been foolish not to sign up. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I was excited about getting a quote from Sunrun because of their relationship with Costco, costco cashback savings and extended roof warranty so I made an (phone) appointment with them. They called me back the next day saying that they don't have anyone available at that time, but can offer a different time slot so we rescheduled (twice - once because the original time slot wasn't available, and once because the agent clicked the button too quick and I wanted a different timeslot). Either way, the appointment time came and no one called. When I called into the corporate office, they said they can't find the agent and apologized for him not calling me and asked me to set up a different time - this time a full week in advance. The day before appointment I got a text confirming the appointment and the agent introducing himself asking for the typical information. The text confirmation showed the time being an hour off so I called into the office to confirm the correct time. I tripled checked with them and they reassured me everything was scheduled and the time offset is simply because the agent is in a different timezone. Finally the day came, and no one calls... again. This time, I call the agent directly who was surprised about the appointment saying he doesn't work on saturdays and he was at his daughters gymnastics event. He said he'll call into the special Sunrun costco office to see if they can get another agent on the phone with me to discuss and promised to call me back regardless just to follow up in 2 minutes. To this day, no one from Sunrun ever called me back - but considering how they run their business, that's probably a good thing. I've reported this to both Costco as well as the reps at Costco. This company has done nothing but waste my time and clearly has no respect for its (potential) customers. Stay away! read more

I purchased a Sunrun system because of Costco. I trust Costco. But, my experience with Sunrun has not been good. You cannot communicate with Sunrun. There is no one to talk to, you call the person in charge and you get an answering device. Plus, I am not sure it is a deal. If you buy the system, you should get the system rebates. No, you get a Costco card but they get the SCE credit, Which is bigger???? Not happy with my experience and may have to review buying anything that is Costco sponsored. read more

Sunrun installed solar panels on my rental property, without my permission. They took advantage of my tenant. Leasing him the panels. They cut corners during the installation. After the tenant moved out, and defaulted on the lease, Sunrun took zero responsibility for installing solar panels without getting consent from the legal owner of the property. My roof has thousands of dollar of damage, and Sunrun refuses to take responsibility. Just an awful company from top to bottom. read more

It took 6 months but I finally got it installed and turned on. Sales rep is very efficient. Using a laptop he showed me how my roof orientation and area was sufficient to make it work, after Solar City and Verengo declined my request. I elected to do a 15 year lease instead of buying it. I pay Sunrun a monthly rental rate locked in for 15 years and SCE for any power my panels don't create. SCE is rolling up rates regularly. The first hurdles are inspections and roof repairs which were on my dime. They offered to pay for roof repairs where the panels would go. (I elected to have my entire roof demoed and re-shingled as it was a 32 year old roof) Sunrun helps you get approval from your master association. I had to ask my neighbors for signed approval as my HOA wouldn't let Sunrun do it. They also help you get the city permits, inspection, and permission to operate from SCE. The first 45 days is free. They even have an app to tell you how much power you've generated. After 5 days it still says zero, but looking at the inverter panel on the side of my house it said 640 kWh in two days. Sunrun sent out a repair guy while I was at work, now the phone app works great. My last SCE bill, $7.11!!! read more

I had a terrible experience with Vivint Solar/Sunrun and Costco in the installation of our solar panels. Vivint repeatedly made appointments to complete or fix issues with the installation, but then would not show up or give a head's up they weren't coming. They did not try to reschedule, I had to call multiple times to get a rescheduled appointment. When they came, the Vivint installers often didn't have the equipment they needed on the truck. In addition, they didn't always know why they were coming--after the first incident, I made sure I knew what still remained to be fixed, so the installers would ask me what they were there to fix. I FedEx'd letters to both the presidents of Vivint Solar and Sunrun describing the situation, there was no response and more importantly no increased progress to resolution. One of the main reasons I went with Vivint was it was backed by Costco, and I wasn't sure that these small solar companies would be around for the 25 years the panels have as an expected lifetime. I reached out to Costco customer service, and they responded, and followed up with me every few days. However, they were not able to address Vivint's lack of ability to complete our install, and ended up asking me what the status was. I appreciated the diligence in following up, but what I needed was help in moving the installation process along. The most frustrating thing was there was no live person at Vivint to call and try to resolve the installation issues, only emails or calls to customer service who said they would send an email to ask for support. We took a serious look at three companies for Solar. SunRun was one of those. We found their customer service to be sub-standard. Their sales rep was giving false information. We asked to be escalated to someone in senior management and was eventually put in touch with their VP, Emmitt Summers. MR. Summers was no better. He was very rude and not knowledgable about SunRun products and services. For these reasons, we opted to go with a much more professional company. After spending a great deal of time researching and then interviewing representatives from several selected companies, I wisely chose SunRun! In fact, I had planned to contract with a different company until I met Dan Burghardt, Sr. Field Solar Specialist in Orange County (949-405-9718 mbl). My project was completely finished a week ago over an amazingly fast timeframe -- HOA approval on 3/27, to city permits, to installation on 5/17, and finally city inspection, and then SDG&E approval. We "flipped the switch" on 5/30/19! My criteria included finding a company that had been in business for many years with strong warranties and a solid financial history, a local office for immediate customer service availability, and a very good track record/reputation. SunRun met all my criteria and more. Although they are the only solar company which sells through both Costco and Home Depot, I decided to contract directly with them because of the additional option of leasing (called a PPA) and a better warranty. Dan has been here with me throughout the entire process and he couldn't be more consistently helpful, supportive, and open. I highly recommend him and SunRun!! read more

I got 4 quotes for solar so that I could make an informed decision, and I did a lot of my own research on the side, and I can confidently say from start to finish that I am glad I went with Sunrun. For starters, my sales rep Kendra stood out as the most helpful and knowledgeable rep I spoke with. She made sure that I felt taken care of and answered my calls/texts/emails quickly and at any time of the day or night. My project planner Vanessa was also always there to guide me through the process and make things easy for me. I have heard horror stories about other companies that come out to the house after you sign up and change things on you, but I have to say that Sunrun delivered on every promise, from system design to installation. The install crew was very friendly and respectful. It was the cleanest, neatest experience I have ever had with someone working on my house. The lead guy on that crew was Dallen/Dellen? He didn't mind when I bothered him while he worked, asking questions on what everything does. And the best part of it was that when they turned the system on, it is producing way more than what Sunrun had said it would. I would have paid a good deal more for the experience I had, but luckily I didn't need too, because the price was very competitive too. My wife and I scheduled an appointment with these people weeks in advance to coincide with our Escrow closing. First we called to confirm the appointment, but the girl who we made it with forgot. We finally figured it out and we had someone scheduled for today at 10:00. At 10:15 we texted her and asked if they were coming, no response. I texted her again at 11:30 telling her to forget it. This has been one of my best investments and I could not recommend Sunrun more highly....what a quality firm and easy to deal with from start to finish. Brandon Walker is the rep that was recommended by a good friend and from our first meeting I wanted to work with him and Sunrun. What a difference from some of the other high-pressure companies. He was very upfront, methodical and alway had my best interest first and foremost. I bought the system and it looks like it will be a 3-4yr ROI. Owning was best for me but they have great lease deals too. Brandon was there for from start to finish and even now is excited to see my electrical bills as I am....the savings have been amazing and just keeps getting better. It is like a "gift that keeps on giving". The installation team is great too....they have a team that are really professional and care to make it a near perfect and sanitary installation. I did like the fact that they were all Sunrun employees and not a separate contractor. I am really anal in this area and they cared as much as i did which makes for a wonderful experience. All great until system didn't work. It's been a month and no functioning solar. Got turned over to service, system never worked how can that be a service call? Received a written note that I need new inverter, OK, think someone would contact me, no. Paid a lot of money and still paying power company! My experience with Sunrun has gone above and beyond my expectations! Jesse Dean was our sales rep (referred by my mom who had a great experience as well) and he was very thorough in his explanation of solar. We agreed and the process began. The installation date came quickly and the crews showed up on time. As they were finishing the job my neighbor came over and complained the glare into her house was too much for her. The installers said they couldn't do anything at that time as the plans were already signed off by the city. My neighbor called the city to complain and they told Sunrun they would not do the final sign off if they didn't fix the glare. Sunrun dealt directly with my neighbor and came up with a solution to satisfy both my neighbor and me. The installers came back to my house removed most of my panels and reinstalled them in a slightly different place. (at no extra cost to me). My neighbor signed off on the project and we had approval from the city fairly quickly. Shortly after I got the OK from SCE to turn on my solar I lost all the power in my house. We looked outside and it was only our house that had lost power. I called SCE they told me how to reset the breaker and I called Sunrun the next day as SCE said they weren't the reason I lost power. Sunrun told me it would be 5 days after the service order was put in to have someone look at my panel and figure out what happened. I called Jesse Dean and he called to report my problem as well. Kevin the service technician came out today and examined the breaker box and replaced the main breaker. He was very polite, on time and fixed the problem. I had some issues that were far from the norm and Sunrun went above and beyond! read more
